sanday79
Has anyone gotten a Microsoft Zune (the newest mp3 player to try and take on the role of "Ipod Killer") yet? I was vaguely interested in getting one for Christmas (because my ipod has given me more trouble than any other electronic device I've ever owned). However, upon reading some lukewarm reviews, I heard that although the hardware is very sound, there are some issues with Microsoft's business model and software. I was wondering if anyone owns or has used a Zune a good amount and had any input about it, because I'm still considering buying or asking for one. Guest GhostRanger
If you're having trouble with your iPod - look at Creative's MP3 players, not the Zune.
vmser
If you're having trouble with your iPod - look at Creative's MP3 players, not the Zune. Id have to agree on that. Ive always had good experiences with creative and Im afraid Zune might not be able to live up to the expectations..

Ive always had good experiences with creative and Im afraid Zune might not be able to live up to the expectations.. I like iPods but I also know that the Creative MP3 players are superb. If you're having problems with the iPod - the Zune seems a silly way to go. Microsoft has always had more serious problems with their products than Apple. Within a week of the Zune's release, it was already reporting installation errors. If you're looking to get away from an iPod that has given you troubles... it seems silly to look towards a Microsoft product.

deloriagod
I'm not going to listen to everyone's advice and I'm asking for a Zune for Christmas. So maybe some people don't like it, others don't like iPods. If I get one, I'll let you know what I think of it. Until then, I'm taking a nuetral stance on this.. sanday79
whats gone wrong with the ipods for you lot? Well, one broke within warranty so they sent me a new one and within like 6 more months it broke again, but it was out of warranty, so I sent it away to be fixed for $200 only to have it break within a month. michiel2
I'm getting a Creative Zen. Best choice, imo. :P Sound quality, no iTunes and not too expensive. At least, I think that.
Jaakilju
I've had a creative zen, and it has worked pretty well for me. Though it had to get repaired once but I had warranty. I think they're all pretty keen on braking up. -.-

vmser
The whole overprotective act, the forcing you to iTunes etc.. That isn't the case. I have the latest firmware and I use EphPod. There are indeed other options. But imo, you're supposed to get those options with it. Standard. At no extra cost. Without searching the web to find what you need. sanday79
Hmm... I'm really in a conundrum. I like the itunes software very much, it's my favorite for music, but I've had too bad an experience with ipods (No, I haven't dropped it, it just broke. Several times) to buy a new one. I guess I could try the Zen, do they come in big sizes (at least 20 GB) though?

Faux
http://www.dapreview.net/zune_vs_ipod_vs_zvm.html Cliffs: Zune - Not at this time. Zune targets the same demographic that would be satisfied with the iPod and does but does not offer a compelling alternative. Nice GUI, but it's not enough (70) Apple iPod G5 - Yes, for people that want a player that "just works" and those who are willing to invest in DRM-wrapped media from iTunes Media Store (80) Creative Zen Vision: M - Yes, for people who want the same kind of functionality as the iPod Video but with more features.
