Pyrolikespie
Okay. We already know it. Some abbreviations are just plain stupid. Saying "hatchet" instead of "axe" is dumb. "Sara"... Well, nobody is going to know what you mean when saying "SELLING SARA PL8". But are we really too lazy to write down simple words? Also, another problem we have is frequent typos. "IM ON P2P TEam Thsi Is a Battle No sticks and stones though This shud B A Prrofensionalish Debate LOL! Umm yeah.... I just read A P2P Dissing all these F2p forever People And I agree that F2P forevre is a stupid idea unless u only wnana play for a month!" (That was not meant to offend the person who wrote it. Don't hurt me.) ...I rest my case. Anyways, I think I'm going to list all of the abbreviations/nicknames I know and have you guys rate on whether it's good or not. Axe = Hatchet Adamantite = Addy Saradomin = Sara Platebody = Plate/Pl8 Mithril = Mith Pot = Potion Two hander = 2H Pickaxe = Pick Gold = Gp Runite = Rune Please = Plz Thank you = Ty 000 (thousand) = K *IN EXAMPLE = 1K* Scimmy = Scimitar Long = Longsword Short = Shortsword Level = Lvl Wilderness = Wildy Player Kill = PK Continue the discussion. Officially retired on 12/10/07, no drop parties because that might be "covertly trading wealth". What does one person's happiness(until they quit) mean compared to the hours I wasted while runecrafting, anyways?
Mythrindon
Hactet is only used to distinguish axe from battle axe. That type of axe is called a hatchet in real life anyway
Guest Eonianknight
(That was not meant to offend the person who wrote it. Don't hurt me.) ROFLMAO Most longish words that would cause you to break your sentence up - adamant, mithril, hatchet, rune two hander, etc. are acceptable. Stuff like 'please', where you only spare 2 characters and is usually only tacked to the back of a sentence is a bit much.

db26
I dislike people who don't speak correctly, but I think you're going a bit too far. When was the last time you actually heard someone refer to a runite item? Actually, all of the abbreviations that you listed are commonly accepted (other than 'plz' and 'pl8') among people who take spelling and grammar very seriously. Zonorhc
Abbreviations in speech ruin the atmosphere of fantasy games. How would you feel if Aribeth in Neverwinter Nights spoke in abbreviations? It's ridiculous when people abbreviate words in forum posts, as well. You've got all the time in the world to make sure your post is at least coherent, with proper spelling and grammar, not to mention punctuation. Typing fast and sounding like a moron doesn't make you cool. Typing fast and sounding like a moron doesn't make you cool. You would think people would realise that, but they don't. Instead of sounding intellegent they sound like a 12 year old kid just coming out from an AoL chat room. I think that some abbreviations are ok to be used such as lol, rotf, and lmao, and the like. But when people start shortening every word it becomes annoying. Not to mention it is rude and inconsiderate to everyone who doesn't speak English as a first language. Predator
Saying "hatchet" instead of "axe" is dumb. What are you talking about??? 1) A woodcutting axe IS called a hatchet. 2)How would you know the difference between a woodcutters axe and a battle axe? 3)Hatchet is a bigger word, how is that simplifying "Axe?" 4) Hatchet isn't an abbreviation. Looce
ya lolz abbrs are kewl and 1337 5p34|< 2, so im guna use em in all my posts! i dun have time 2 type so i just put nums in there to shorten evrythin! also i nevr use caps cuz they req me to press shift. Come on, people, was that understandable? I mean, for a person who speaks English, 2 means two/too/to. Alright. But take me, a Quebecer, whose mother tongue is French. When I read the "2" in that sentence, I think "deux". "2 type" might mean "two guys" for me... And abbreviating evertyhing like Superlazer86 and the stereotypical AOL speaker I pictured leads to confusion and longer sentence parsing times. As in, "Hey! That abbreviation can mean 4 different things, which one is it?" For example, is the 2 he typed a two, a too or a to?
ValaraZ
Hatchet=hatch i think that it's ok to use some abbreviations. but what i really hate is the thing that some people find it very hard to use full sentences and not write their opinions so that everyone can read them. is it really that hard to use ''.'', '','', ''!'' or ''?''? oh wait leeters use exlamation mark and question marks alot. i wonder, is that AOL chat room such a leet place then. i mean, every american i know says that only script-kiddies and/or wannabehackers use those rooms to fill their needs... and the text is really terrible there i hear. Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant: "If I live, I will kill you, If I Die, you are forgiven." Such is the Rule of Honor.
