Halo 3

Recommended Posts

Well I searched and there don't seem to be any posts about it. Also I'm not sure if this is supposed to go into the media area or if off-topic is where this belongs. Anywho, will Halo 3 will redifine gaming Just like Halo and Halo 2 did? From the trailers I have seen of it it is going to have some major donkey kicking graphics and gameplay. Personally I can't wait to ride the mongoose. Or maybe you can now be a grunt or a Hunter. Bring the discusion on!!

Mind telling me, because I really am currious, how did halo exactly revolutionize gaming?

Was it the multiplayer? Nope, Goldeneye nearly perfected that for Console FPS's way back when.

Was it the kewl vehicles? Nope, games had been using vehicles way before halo.

Was it the grand level design? Nope, it was mostly the same beat this level >> go to next level >> go to next level deal that I thought we got away from in the genre. And don't even get me started on the alien ships. *yawn*

Was it the 'ground breaking' graphics? Not really, considering you really can't revolutionize anything with a purdy look.

Off topic, Golden eye had interesting multiplayer but For some old school trashing I found perfect dark for the N64 amazing. There really is no game out there with the same multiplayer as PDN64. Sadly I don't play N64 anymore because well, after 30 minutes my hands are cramping and after like an hour I get callouses.

Yeah, Golden Eye somewhat perfected the idea though, IMO. PDN64 added a ton of stuff to it ;p.

So, whats your reason for halo redifing gaming?

Basicly the multiplayer, no other game besides Counter Strike really gives me the satisfaction that Halo 2 did. Every time I have a party or people come over, we don't really play anything but Halo 2. Ya I know, really really stupid reasons to define gaming. #-o

Personally, I think that Goldeneye 64 did more for multiplayer than Halo ever did. Halo multiplayer is fun (used to play it with dormmates all the time), but I dont think it's really that great of a game. It's really overrated and I don't see why people are so into it :x

Finaly someone agrees with me ;p. I'll admit I have had my share of fun with halo's multiplayer at lans, but the game as a whole is really overrated.

Speaking of which, did anybody actually beat all those challenges on perfect dark? I remember I was a few off but they got incredibly hard.

Nah, I never got to play the game much lol :(. Dunno why I never had it for the 64.

The Goldeneye levels were hard as nails though, especialy on 007 difficulty.

I recieved massive lulz from reading the original post.

Halo is the worst FPS series I have played. It's about how quickly you can find a powerful weapon and then how fast you can shoot someone with it. The storyline always seems to be the same aswell, constantly revolving around this "Master Chief" character.

To say Halo redefined gaming is like saying...Well, no need for analogies here, it's like saying "Hi, I'm an idiot."

...Sorry. Just is.

I do believe Halo will go down in history as the game with the most fanboys ever, though. There is absolutely nothing special about the game...It's multiplayer was pretty fun, that's about it. Other than that, it's a completely generic FPS. I could reskin BF2 with Halo models and not even tell the difference, if you get my drift. They're the same thing.

There are so few games that actually deserve the title of "redefining" gaming...Usually they're games that start Genre's...So...

SimCity/Sim games.

GTA games.

Stuff like that. Spore coming up is definately going to redefine how we play games, considering how massive it is and how much there is to do. Halo 3 will not even redefine FPS's, let alone gaming in general, lol. I think the game this year that redefined FPS's would be Gears of War. That game makes Halo look stupid. After playing that, I can't stand playing another FPS where the goal is to run out, take as many shots without dying as you can and kill your opponent first is the name of the game...Snoreeeee. In GoW, it was either duck and cover, or get a bullet to the face and die. That's how shooters should be from here-on, but sadly, Halo won't have this at all. Lame.

Anyone want to help me start reskinning Golden Eye 64 models with Halo models to prove my point? Anyone? :P

My friend, brother, and I all worked togther and finished them all. Or at least 47/50 of them. Took us a while but we did it :)

I haven't heard/seen much about GoW so I can't really comment on it, but IMO the game that revolutionized FPS's was half life and half life 2. Half life for being one of the first to bring a story oriented game into the FPS world, and half life 2 for perfecting that.

I agree with you on the GTA/Sim city deal, at least with GTA because it really opened up the open ended genre of games.

This year, however, I really haven't seen any games worthy or good enough to revolutionize gaming, most of the games out this year were kinda meh.

Well, I haven't played Half-Life beyond the HL2 beta a long time ago (:P), but I can say that it's certainly not too revolutionary either. GarysMod for HL2 made HL2 a lot more fun lookin', though. :P I will give HL2 a lot of credit for the physics it has, since in GarysMod, you can strap together a buncha' items and make a rocket...Very cool.

To me - and I don't see how there's any other definition - redefining gaming means making a game that just blows everything else around it out of the water and makes it look boring and oldschool. Gears of War's fighting system made other FPS's look just that; boring and old. When playing it, it felt like I was really in a battle...You have to duck and cover, or you're a goner. It's really fast paced, too. You have to duck and cover AND kill semi-fast or you'll get flanked and die. If there is a Locust at a stationary machine gun, you can't hit him unless you flank him or chuck a grenade at him, which was really fun.

Halo's AI was alright...Meaning the baddies would actually hide from you instead of just standing there. But GoW even took that a step up...Locusts will hide AND try to flank your position, working together in groups to take you down. They fail if you're good, but they try. :P

Edit: And yea, there weren't a ton of awesome games this year. NEXT year is going to be the year. As in 2007...Tomorrow. :P Spore is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and they'll sell like hot cakes if they start releasing more information on it. People are already hooked, but it seems people forget about it in the midst of Halo-GoW-MMO-this-and-that talk all day long. Everytime they release a new gameplay video, people FREAK over it. :P Personally, I'll be buying a new computer sometime this year just so I can play it. Supreme Commander is also another reason to buy a new computer for me. Assassin's Creed is what'll finally get me a 360...

I just can't wait for 2007. :P

And let us not forget GTA4. If I don't have a 360 by the time that comes out, I'll surely have one when that game hits shelves.

You've never played Half life [the first]? :(

The reason I've stated that it revolutionized gaming was because before half life, every FPS out there was about going through levels, getting keycards or keys or something, and getting to the next level. Half life brought an entirly conected world, with amazing physics at its time as well, and then put it together in an incredible game with a great story.

Half life 2 pretty much just added onto that, IMO. It perfected the idea, added amazing physics and, again, a great story. Heck, the episodic games for half life are someone sparking a bit of a trend in episodic gaming, which, may be good or bad depending on how it is being done.

edit: yeah, 2007 is shaping up to be an amazing year for gaming. Tons of great MMO's coming out, and ground breaking games as well as vista and Direct X10.

It's going to be a hell of a year next year.

The only thing bad about GoW was that the Roadie Run and Ducking behind cover had the same button (A), so when you did a Roadie Run too close to a wall, you'd duck and cover instead of running.

Halo 1 was Awesome...Halo 2 was Awesomer...Halo 3 will be Awesomerer.

And Halo Wars should rock aswell.

Best Games...Ever.

The only game that rivals the Halo series is GOW.

Its definitely the best game to play at console LANs and takes ages to get bored of...unless you suck at it. Anyways Half Life sucks and so does Warcraft. Halo 3 is already awesome as and its not even done yet.
