January 8, 200719 yr Please do not resort to religious discussions as this will be locked. So, I was wondering what happens after you die? I've always pondered on the thought, I know there are many many possible answers. Not really answers, But suggestions and theorys. personally, I think people who are still living and people who are dead live in to seperate worlds, but the same world. The dead are taken from the living world and placed in the 'other' world without knowing, But the real world still knows they are gone. If that makes sense. Please discuss yours.. ..And remember, Keep it away from religion and flaming, I'd like this topic to be taken maturely If this does get locked, I'd like to apologise for touching on a religious side of things. January 8, 200719 yr What happens to you when you die is something unknown. Religion is used to understand the unknown. It's impossible to have a discussion about the afterlife without including religion. ~M

January 8, 200719 yr Isn't it just the same as when you weren't alive? Before you were alive you were "dead" so shouldn't it just be the same.
January 8, 200719 yr Isn't it just the same as when you weren't alive? Before you were alive you were "dead" so shouldn't it just be the same. Thats the most logical thing. Lack of consciousness and no feelings or thoughts. Nothing more to say about death really. It is after all a great nothingness. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
January 8, 200719 yr Author Isn't it just the same as when you weren't alive? Before you were alive you were "dead" so shouldn't it just be the same. Explain that some more, Sounds interesting. Surely you must go somewhere? I mean, It's hard for me to grasp. But.. Well.. I don't see how you can just stop. You must go on somehow I assume. My dA account..retired, as of the 1st January 2008.
January 8, 200719 yr I think that's the end - you're over. I don't know why I think that... if your brain is dead, it has no control over you anymore? Thanks to 4be2jue for the signature!

You WANT to, that's what religion is. IMO anyway. But as we are discussing afterlife, there is for me but one answer, our conciousness lies within our brain. Created by the electrical currents or whatever, haven't studied it deeply enough to explain more. But when we die, they stop working. So no conciousness. Might sound harsh to some, but that's what I beleive. However, another side to this is an afterlife in the sense that what we created, the people we touched who still live on, how they think about us, build monuments, etc :P So I say, let the living care for the living (afterLIFE) and let me die in peace.

Seriously, I don't really like the idea that when you're views on things after life/death are based on religious ideas, you can't voice them. You must go on somehow I assume. like korla said, its probably more you want to believe theres something there.. you certainly dont HAVE to go on. heres a (very bad) analogy for you: you are a ball. before you're "born" you sit at rest at the top of a hill. at some point, you're given a little nudge downhill. (birth) eventually, you're going to reach the bottom. now.. this ball doesnt HAVE to keep moving does it? once it reaches the bottom it is going to stop. im not one to believe that the "mind" is somehow seperate from the "brain". I think when the brain stops, the mind stops. hey maybe there isnt "endless nothingness", you just cant experience it :-) babelfish - level 180 60th placestrongguy - level 173 69th place
January 8, 200719 yr i've got plenty of death theories, most of them based on fantasy books... I think the whole sabriel/lirael/abhorsen way of dieing and death is pretty damn cool - so im totally into that atm (thers a none religious way of doing things - how dieing works in alternate realities.)

I think what he meant was that breaking the temporary ban on religion was childish. It's not the subject matter, it's the principle of breaking rules.

January 8, 200719 yr Nothing. The inescapable reality of the end is all that happens. You just end. You are no more than a pile of flaesh and bones and liquids and chemicals. How would you exist any further.
January 8, 200719 yr It is after all a great nothingness. ugg...that just gives me the shivers  Listen to the mighty words of Bloodredsword. Tip it MGC Xbox live leader board!
January 8, 200719 yr It is after all a great nothingness. ugg...that just gives me the shivers  Try thinking about what would exist if the universe never existed. The answer is nothing, but it just perplexes your mind when you think about it. Me doing staff.
January 8, 200719 yr I'd like to think its a never-ending dream, but in reality, i'd have to say nothing - Im an atheist, so i have no religious opinion... Dot quote me asking for justifaction to my answer, its my opinion :

January 8, 200719 yr Without religious input, this thread becomes pointless and one-sided. Everyone is going to say that there's nothing real after death (or perhaps somebody will believe in the paranormal), so there will hardly be any interesting discussion. Unless, of course, Insane feels like arguing the metaphysics of it, because I know I'm certainly too tired and busy to do so. :P "In so far as I am Man I am the chief of creatures.
