Without belivable graphics its hard to belive the world your playing in (in the game). Other factors help with immersion but graphics play a huge role in that. I know that I, for one, didn't spend a ton of money on my computer just to play doom.

Just somewhat wondering, considering I'm kinda out of line with what "good" games are out for both handhelds, but could you guys possibly tell me the must have gaves for DS and PSP?

PSP:

MGS:Portable Ops. (And MGS:A! if you're into card/rpg games)

Worms.

Burnout Legends.

MOH.

Locoroco.

I haven't played Lumines or GTA on the PSP, so I can't say for them.

Ok thats what I thought guys. Mostly rehashed games from older systems with some extra stuff thrown in.

I think I'll keep with my origional statement about both of them. Although if I *had* to choose one of them I'd choose the PSP, as I enjoyed playing some of the games on it. Neither system has much (at all) origional games though.

Graphics are important though. Not as much as gameplay but they are right up there.

In some instances graphics are important. For example, I bought a new computer so I could play Oblivion with good graphics. But if it was a crappy game I would have been mad and not played it anymore no matter how good of graphics it had.

Hand held consoles are a little different, for me at least. It doesn't matter how good of graphics it has, because the only games I enjoy playing on small screens are the classics, like Tetris. I couldn't play an Oblivion type game on there, or a FPS. I would want games like flash games on the internet, simple.

That is why I probably won't ever buy either of them, because I could buy an old GameBoy color and Tetris for about $15, and that would take care of my handheld needs.

The Ds made it a point to redo a couple of games, Mario 64 for example, its exactly like the original Mario 64, except you can play as Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi too, Super Mario, made exactly like the original, except with up to date graphics, and they are both must have games for the system, I have not met anyone who didn't like them(Unless they have a thing against Mario games to begin with).

The only unoriginal games they have for it, are suppost to be that way, the rest are either completly new, or its a recent game that pushes its way onto all consols, even Pokemon, who basically have been making the exact same game for years, are making completly new games, I can't promise you they won't suck, but I can say that they are new.

As for the graphics thing, good graphics arn't important nor are they needed at all, its a definate plus, but I would rather a good NES game as opposed to a horrible Gamecube game.

Oh boy, I can play a different character model in a game! That makes it so different than when I played mario 64 on my N64.

I haven't seen many "must have" games that are unique to the system its self

Pretty much agreed. What I'd love to see are some better RPG's and adventure games for the two handhelds.

You basically just skimmed through that section didn't you?

My point was THEY WERE MEANT TO BE REMAKES, not that they were different, though its apparent you have your head too far up your [wagon] to even take into consideration what another person is saying.

I personally like Children of Mana, its unique to the system and its good, comes from the Secret of Mana series of games, but, like all of the mana games, its different from the rest in a lot of ways, I still prefer Legend of mana, but this one is pretty good too.

I'm just trying out Tao's Adventure, which is a sequel to the long forgotten Azure Dreams game for PS1/Game boy color.

Saying that is almost exactly like saying "You're a nerd unless you look like (Insert pop stars name here)" its shallow, as well as stupid, everyone goes about games the same way "Games suck if they don't look like (Insert game name here)".

And my point stands. Why do I want to play a game I played 5 years ago?

Nice, an actual RPG on the system. :)

I don't even know where to begin here...

Graphics help the game. Just like sound and controls do. What I was saying is you can't disreguard them.

I'll put it this way, I'd much rather play a great game with great graphics than a great game with shoddy graphics (not to be mixed with their actual graphic engine, but the quality of the artwork. For example a sprite game can have great graphics if it has some quality art in it.

My point is is that everything in a game is important from gameplay to graphics to the controls of a game. You can't disreguard any of them as being inferior to the design.

Maybe because they have never been on a handheld before and many people still like them, I was very addicted to Mario 64 when it first came out, and now that I have it on DS its still fun to play.

Sorry, I misunderstood you before, though I would still play a game with bad graphics if it was good, I do agree with that.

DS hands down.

It has sold hundreds of thousands more units than the PSP. No competition.

I'd like to note if you downgrade and unleash the capabilities of the psp, you come out with BOTH of those games^ . I run my GTA on psp, and have Super Mario 64 emulating too.

I'd like to note how illegal that is.

Not really. I mean to say I run UMD Gta which I purchased, along with Roms which I downloaded to games I own in hard copy. I'm not sure what's illegal there, it's certainly not morally objectable to me. The roms might be a sort of issue though. I do own the hard copies, and although my method of getting them is illegal, having them is not because digitally they are the exact same things as my copy would be if I used the $50+ dollar equipment to load them off.

And note to your list of Psp games: I've tried to lumines demo (I dont remember where I found it, it's a flash game somewhere), and it's great but I dont really like puzzles (not willing to dish out for it). The Gta game is great if you like those sort. Absolutely perfect to port to the PSP as it's perfect for those short rides (easy short term gameplay), along with a reasonable plot for overall. They also have nice load-as you go, so the only time you experience "lag" is ripping through the game at full speed, even then it's not lag but the environment blends in layers of more basic graphics to the intense ones as it catches up.

Song psp definately. Although it only has one screen compared to nintendo ds, the screen is bigger

orly8pv6jt4vmui1.gif

Nintendo DS. I'm not really interested in any PSP games, but hearing that FFT is being remade REALLY interests me, but I won't buy a PSP just for one game. The other features the PSP offers aren't very useful (To me). I have an MP3 player, but i barely use it and the PSP is too big for me to use as an MP3 layer anyways. I don't travel much either, and watching movies on a PSP seems uncomfortable.

I also have a bunch of GBA games.

DS hands down.

You can't just use that to justify anything, the DS was released about 6~7 months before hand.

(DS = Nov. '04.

PSP = March '05)

Well you never mentioned you had the hard copies. :P That doesn't make it illegal. But if you don't own the hard copies, you are legally obliged to delete them off of your computer after 24 hours. (But there's no rule to stop you re-downloading it again ^_^)

knkcopy.jpg
But if you don't own the hard copies, you are legally obliged to delete them off of your computer after 24 hours

Can you provide anything to back that up? To me it seems like it is something made up by pirates. Along the lines of an urban legend, so they can feel what they are doing is legal.

What's more, why would any legislation allow the piracy of something for 24 hours? Why aren't you allowed to download music for 24 hours? It goes against common sense.

Heh, you're right. :P All of the ROM sites I go on tell me that rule. :?

What about the "24 hour rule" that says I can try out copies for 24 hours before deleting them?

The "24 hour rule" is a clear example of why you should never take legal advice from software pirates. There is no such rule; downloading a copy of copyrighted software not intended for distribution is always illegal, no matter how long you have it.

Oh well. :) I always thought that it sounded quite a strange rule.

PSP is x100 better than DS

Your name is "bet you fail", and you're starting a business with your mom? I'm not even going to touch that.....
PSP is x100 better than DS

ffs, have you read a single post in this thread? Its people like you who turn these threads into moronic fanboy flame wars.

Can you name one good thing about the DS?

supernovasigst7.jpg

I don't think anyone has read the article deloriagod posted on the first page, so I'll post it again!

The second-to-last sentence of the article sums up all I want to say; So in theory, the Nintendo DS is a better portable system but the PSP is the better all-around system.

The PSP plays music, movies, games, and surfs the internet . If I didn't have an Ipod, or a portable DVD player, heck yeah, I'd go with the PSP. According to Amazon.com, the price of a PSP is $199.82. Its less than an Ipod, yet can do more!

However, I have an Ipod, and I have a DVD player. I don't really care that the PSP has those features, as I don't need them. What I'd look for is the games.

Sure, the DS's graphics might not be the best, but look at the games! Super Mario 64, (which was my favorite game back then) Animal Crossing WW, (AC was my favorite Gamecube game) Nintendogs, (always wanted a dog, couldn't have one, this game really brings out the fun of having a dog), the Brain Age series (the excercises are fun and helpful), etc. Plus, I can play my old favorite GBA games!

Again, the article's last sentence really summed up what I'm trying to say: "So in theory, the Nintendo DS is a better portable system but the PSP is the better all-around system."
