dsavi
There are so many choices of internet security, Panda, Norton, F-Secure and too many for me to even think of to put in this topic. I'm going to buy a computer this summer, and I don't know what kind of security system to get for it because I'm such a n00b at remembering that kind of thing. What brand/model is best? How much for a subscription in the USA? How much for the main software? Is it cheaper to buy it online or offline? Why is it better? I have this small, insistant feeling that this will not help only me... Oh yeah, and my dad has a 'small' problem with Norton. It won't accept his validation code so it shut itself down and he switched to f-secure. dsavi x4

FunnyGiant
best security is located between your ears. if that is not enough, use Nod32 :) This is the world we live inAnd these are the hands we're givenUse them and lets start trying To make it a place worth living in

PhelimReagh
I updated to Norton Internet Security 2007, and within 3 days had to find a new product. It so severely impacted my ability to surf the web, it rendered my computer fairly useless (and I have a pretty decent system and cable-internet). RS was so laggy with IS2007 that I could not consider going into risky situations with the Firewall enabled. So as a RS player, I would advise strongly against Norton. Cruiser
Norton is the best security. You can buy it online or offline. You obviously haven't had to deal with it's many flaws and headache inducing "protections". The plain text words that shut your net access off were fun to find on IRC last year. best security is located between your ears. Best. Advice. Ever. Overall, it doesn't really matter what you use. Nod32, AVG, Kaspersky, Panda, TrendMicro (I know, I missed some), will ALL provide you with good security. It's just recommened you stay away from Norton and Mcaffe because of the issues they constantly have and the lack of actual virus protection. Celt23
McAffee is the one I have, so far it's caught loads of adware and two trojans.
weezcake
I hate Norton. It hogs resources and slows down your computer (my laptop loves me for uninstalling it). Personally, I use AVG av and the free Zone Alarm firewall. I have them there just in case, but I haven't picked up a virus in years.. Common sense is your best anti-virus :) ==================================Retired tip.it moderator.Teaching and inspiring.
Mercifull
There are a lot of people that will dis Norton and Mcaffee but most of it with without merit. I guess its because they are a big company and its "cool" to bash big companies just like people moan at Microsoft. I have used Norton for years and NEVER had a problem with it hogging all the memory on my pc or slowing it down. Its always discovered any virus attempts on my computer and it downloads updates contantly without me having to worry about remembering. As for the IRC bug a few years back, it was patched the very same day. If people were still affected by it then it was a problem with the user failing or cancelling the update. I agree with Cruiser however by mentioning Nod32 which is a great piece of software but i would NEVER entrust by computer in the hands of free software such as AVG which is always days out of date and contrary to what others day it HAS let viruses though the "net" as proved with my friends PC. The "best" security software is infact your brain but with a combination of good anti-virus, a strong customised firewall (not just out of the box), and a selection of antispyware and "infection prevention" software you should be perfectly safe. Software that I use: Norton AntiVirus 2006 (NOT Internet Security Suite) ZoneAlarm Pro firewall (includes a basic spyware cookie feature) Ad-Aware (free home user edition) Spybot S&D Spyware Guard Spywareblaster Custom HOSTS file Brain 1984 edition (patched to v.120220071009) Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. alexrider1234
If you want Internet Security definately go for Kaspersky Internet Security. If you get it, under file options select scan installation packages that just makes it ownage. :D http://www.kaspersky.com RSN: dbferrariLevel:
