If you had 1,000 dollars, what would you buy?

I think Defender means he's going to invest in the stock market, take the profit from that, and never have to work. (this can happen, if you do it right, but often doesn't, and boy if you invest all your $ in the stock market, don't get a degree or an education, expect never to work again and live a cushy live, and your stocks crash or go down...oooh ouch, you may end up having to get an education and work. )

I said why working + college is not a waste of time if you read that properly. As it isn't, and if you read the part before that I wrote about the stock market, you will understand why I am saying your choice of job is potentially flawed, and why getting a degree is not as worthless as you think.

EDIT: A degree and further education is a great back-up plan if your stocks fail and you end up out of pocket. It is something to fall back on, and can achieve a reliable income that you can depend on.

Yes, I agree its a great back up plan, but many people want it to be The Plan for my life.

The knowledge may be free, but no one's going to take you seriously with just a high school education.

The stock market is a tough game to play and with a high school education, I don't think you're going to have enough knowledge to do anything right, much less get a big payout from it. It's best to have something to fall back on (EX: a career) when you start investing into the stock market. But, that's your business, not mine.

Work isn't a waste of time, you can help other people, serve your community, and make a difference in the world. I guess that's just not your thing though.

I read a lot about different types of rocks on the internet last week. Does that make me a qualified geologist?

Yes. Yes it does.

Of course you risk certain things, but there is high risk and low risk, you can risk a lot and potentially lose a lot or risk a little and lose only a little. Fortune favours the brave, but there becomes a point where the brave can be naive, but like I said like twice before if you read my damn posts is that the stock market is not a CERTAINTY. You cannot just become a insta-millionaire without crazy knowledge about it, and even with all the knowledge about it in the world it is still not certain that you will play and win. There are millions of people who have lost their lives to it, becoming bankrupt, and without a degree it becomes much harder to get back on your feet.

In my opinion if this is what you want to do, and seeing as you agree a degree is a good back-up plan, then go get the degree, play the stock market, pay off debt if you win, go get a job if you don't.

Don't tell me a degree is worthless just because someone told you you have to get a degree then work, when you said yourself it is something to fall back on.

But you know what, you just keep contradicting yourself, the so called-clearing up cleared nothing up as you still haven't answered many of my questions, and have no response to a lot of what I typed. Look at your arguements for saying you want a lot of money, then read your sig, or read the quote I posted previously. If you had read my posts properly you would be able to respond with a more informed reply. But do what you want seriously. There's no point arguing with you when you cannot make up your mind what is important and what isn't. I think you still fail to realise the stock market can fail, and that you are not guaranteed anything, which is why the smart person would have a degree for back up if plan A fails.

Just do what you like I'm through arguing with someone that says one thing one second and another a second after, I'm wasting my time. Do what you like.

Don't worry, I'm an internet certified doctor, read Wikipedia. I am going to diagnose you with Mononucleosis, you show the signs. Has anyone kissed your elbows or fingernails lately? There's no need to test, if this is true, you will need to get medication for Mono on this site: http://www.viagra.com.

You see, as previously mentioned above, these guys claim that they cannot help you by reading the internet. Only by going to college.

Non of them are "certified" millionares, so none of them are educated well enough on what to do with 1000 dollars.

Thus, all their points and advice are null and void, proven by their own mouths.

Besides, all I asked was what few items I could purchase for 1k.. want to add some stuff to my room.. then they started this whole degree/college idea and got technical about it.. <.<

Unless, unless you invent or create/make something huge enough that people will accept it without you having a college education. Without a college education, no one will take you serious.

As far as I'm concerned, I will get my degree. Money I get will invest in this. Then after earning some money I put into stock markets. If I win, I pay off my debt. If I lose I STILL HAVE MY DEGREE. Which you agreed was a good plan. Basically I will invest money in a back up plan, because If I win, it doesn't matter how much money I invest in education, my winning will pay it off. Either way, getting a degree will end up in me WINNING, because even if I lose stock markets, I can still easily get a high paying job. If I do not get a degree and I fail at stock markets that's it.
