Really good guide; learned a lot from it. Quite helpful too, seeing as I'm F2P now, and I've long forgotten my old training spots.

I don't know if you've mentioned it, but POWERTRAINING with range is quite easy at the giant spiders in level 3 (they're aggressive-- a bit like bandits..) and flesh crawlers on level 2. I usually bring Dhide+ Rune Full, and maybe Rune Platelegs/Skirt. Works great for melee as well.

That's how I train ranged as well. ::'

Good guide, 9/10.

Can't call it perfect because the pictures are so old :-# Update them? ::'

I get around to it, although since there's no real errors in the pictures, I think it'll do.

Thanks for both of the replies!

Great guide, I'd definately use it if I weren't P2P and had maxed melee stats.

However, there are some things I believe you can improve upon.

1) The tags system. With built in hide tabs, you don't really need to use tags to find things you are looking for, since all the tabs are easily seen by simply scrolling up or down a bit.

2) I understand the Stronghold of Security is a great place to train in F2P. However, some other options should be mentioned in your guide as well, such as Moss giants, Lesser demons, Greater demons, and Cockroach soldiers. If you could add information about these training spots and possibly compare them to the SoS it would really benefit the readers.

3) Your guide goes into much detail concerning melee and range, yet your mage guide is really lacking. First of all, training magic with combat is extremely slow xp in F2P, so I don't understand why you would mention it. I believe it would be much better for your guide to instead mention noncombat methods of training magic, even though they don't involve the SoS, because high alching and superheating is a much more efficient use of your time and money than bolting or blasting away at Ankous.

True, I'll make note of those.

The guide was created before there were any rival training spots. Even now, the SoS remains the best location to train. However, you're right. Mentioning the others and doing a comparison would be helpful. But to do that I would need to retest all of the alternate spots. That might take a while since I need accurate evidence.

So, I read your guide again, and I decided to say some stuff about it.

1) FOG Coif is not better than normal Coif. In fact, it is the same reason as FOG Robes/RC Robes and Rune Berserker/Rune Kiteshield. Put FOG Coif/normal Coif instead of FOG Coif > normal Coif.

2) For the bows, always, and I mean ALWAYS, use shortbows. They have the same bonus as longbow/composite, and they are faster therefore more efficient.

3) For the melee armor, for plate say platebody > chainbody > green d'hide body > other. For legs, say platelegs/plateskirts > green d'hide chaps > other. Also for the shield, write Berserker/Kiteshield > [bleep]eshield/Square shield > other.

4) For the melee weapons, scimitar > longsword isn't enough. It should be scimitar > longsword > shortsword > battleaxe > mace > warhammer > dagger > 2H > none.

5) You don't mention Safety Gloves anywhere. For Melee, it's Gauntlets > Safety Gloves > normal gloves > none. For Ranged, it is Green D'hide chaps > Safety gloves > other. For Magic, it is RC gloves > safety gloves > gloves > none.

I choose only to list commonly used items in my lists, and therefore that is why stuff like chainmail, longbows and shortswords are not mentioned.

FOG equipment IS better than their corresponding normal equipment, just only statistically. In truth it is better not to use them, which is why I made a note of that. I still place FOG higher than normal because technically it is better, but it isn't necessarily "efficient".

Safety gloves are quite commonly used though. In fact I see quite a lot of people use them when I train at Flesh Crawlers. Not many people use Green D'Hide chaps for melee though. You also didn't mention the Rune Berserker or Kiteshield either, which is why I put it up there.

And I think you should still compare those uncommonly used items so you can inform others in your guide NOT to use them, because of the outclassed factor. Otherwise people will still use chainmail and pickaxes to train. :wall:

I think it's common sense to use the scimitars and longswords since it is general knowledge that they are the only real viable weapons.

FOG gloves blow Safety Gloves right out of the water since they don't degrade and are therefore the better option.

Agreed w/ weapons.

However, for magic, not a lot of people have 50 RC, and the Safety Gloves is the only best magic gloves until you can get the RC gloves.

Also, you still haven't mentioned anything about the Rune Kiteshield and Rune Berserker on that list. All it says is "same as armor".

Will update on Magic Equipment and the Rune shields.

The screenshots are old, but they still work. Nothing has changed, so there is no reason to change.

Someone of the ankou safespots may have changed, and I've heard that some of the minotaurs are moving around the fence that you safespot them from :|

It would be nice if you could post some approximate xp rates though :| Trying to calc how many bronzes 99 range will cost me powering fleshies... I'm guessing 400k-500k, basing that on 1k bronzes powered/hr + it's around 400-450 hours of powering bronzes to 99 range for me (10.6mish xp left, estimated xp rate of 25k xp/hr says it'll be 424 hours) - but for some reason I think that's a bit low.

I don't have too much time on my hands, but I could put up the rates for melee. If you could get your rates for range and post them, that would be great. Credit given, of course.

22k-25k xp/hr @ fleshies given 79-84 ranged & bronze arrows; one inv of wines lasts me 2 hours, so give or take if you're lower def.

~1300 arrows/hr powering.

Have yet to check for the 85-90 range.

For those that are wondering about the seemingly arbitrary level range, I'll explain quickly.

Max hit with range in f2p is directly correlated to your range lv & arrow type. Max hit increases by 1 from bronze, iron, steel, mithril, to adamant.

New max hits are incurred by the following range levels: 67(?), 73(?), 79, 85, 91, 96.

I'm not positive about 67 and 73, but I can attest to the last 4.

Note that these levels define max hit on rapid. Accurate is one to two levels below.
