Tritous
I don't check this so often, but I do still from time to time. Drop lists are still welcome as is any feedback -D'or Kadar ---Contents--- 1: Introduction2: The game3: Regarding the Vyrewatch4: Drops5: Ivandis Flail6: Closing ---Introduction--- Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Clearly they didnt do their jobs very well. I'm very proud to boast 1000 Vyrewatch killed and cremated. I worked hard to maintain the most kills in the period after the quest and now at 1k kills I am happy to claim I was the FIRST to reach this landmark. Since then several others have passed this landmark, a few offering some info on their drops to add to this guide, some using this guide to help them in their goal. But that is the end, not the means. On the way I learnt (the hard way) much information on this new minigame. As such, this is the final guide I intend to write on it, detailing all the most useful information about cremating vyrewatch as gathered by both myself and a group of other vyre slayers who have been researching this with me. I hope you find it useful. Should you have any other information to add please tell me. Just because we were the first to research it doesn't mean we are the only ones, and I'm all too happy to be corrected. Much of the information on this thread is from the thread "91 Keys - Results" (15-16-700-56368620). Included in this original is all the original research including discussions we had with Mod Mark H. Those interested should read. Thanks to all who have contributed research notes and findings to help in the making of this guide ---The Game--- After you complete the Legacy of Seergaze quest you will know what this game is about. In short you kill vyrewatch, take their remains to Paterdomus, cremate them to get keys and use those to open the recesses and get loot. Burning the Vyres needs pyre logs of teak or higher. The advised is maples as these are the most available and cheapest option in that range. It has been confirmed by a member of Jagex Staff that the choice of log ONLY EFFECTS FIREMAKING EXP so it is best not to burn expensive logs. ->Making Pyre Logs Making pyre logs requires sacred oil. For more information on the requirements for pyre logs refer to the manual entry on the Shades of Morton minigame. It is easiest to make the sacred oil in batches, using 2 inventories of 10 timber, 10 limestone bricks and 50 swamp tar to fill up the resources to max. reinforce until 75-80% sanctity is reached (giving a reasonably margin in case delays cause it to fall while blessing oil As a measure, it takes around 8000gp and 1 hour to make 175 vials of sacred oil (3) before your resources run out. It may be advisable to keep them as 3 doses as these are what is needed for maple logs. and the mixing of doses has a tendancy of taking up more time than it saves. Pyre logs and sacred oil are starting to sell again in the GE. If you choose this option be aware it will cost a lot more and may take time to come in but takes less effort and less active time. ->Burning The minigame helps keep count of your cremations up to 500 by reading the lecturn at the south of the room. There is no difference in the various wall recesses so use whichever is most convenient. Also of note, pyrelords and barbarian FM cannot be used. Ideally bring a tinderbox, 13 logs, 13 remains and 1 spacing items on the trips. Many use spirit terrorbird scrolls as the nearest bank is canifis. While a BoB can carry logs to increase the size of the load taken it CANNOT carry remains, although they are bankable (as are the keys). While you can only have 1 pyre built at a time you can build another during the long burning animation to save time. Be wary, however, as the pyres will despawn if left for too long, as will the keys. [hide=PIC-Burning Vyres][/hide] ->Healing I found by the end, I only needed 16 sharks for 25 vyres. This will vary with stats, of course, as well as with the type of food you choose. [hide=PIC-Sample Inventories]Inventory recommended when using a highly boosted flail and conventional gear Inventory when using a bunyip[/hide] Many recommend a bunyip if you can use them as these are exceptionally useful for healing. These summons with reduce the amount of food needed, as well as the awkward problem of having to waste food to make more bank space. It has also been found that while you cannot damage the health of vyres, you can use full guthans to heal you by what you "would have hit". It is suspected the engine does this in the same manner as the strange plant, forcing a damage cap depending on the weapon used. Like the strange plant, guthans calculates the healing effect before this modifier takes place, allowing you to heal just like on any other creatyre. While healing off the vyres and particularly juvinates is possible with guthans, it is not recommended as the dwarven helm is more useful in this minigame than guthans, and as you need to regularly bank drops anyway food is no inconvenience. Perhaps the best way of dealing with the Vyres is with prayer. The high prayer bonus of the flail means that when kitted up a prayer bonus of +33 while still maintaining decent attack bonuses is possible. Factoring the slow speed of the Vyres, prayer switching is possible and it's confirmed that by higher upgrades, each vyre can be killed using less than 1 prayer point. If you burn every 50 kills this means there is no need for any food or potions whatsoever as you refill prayer at an alter. ->Rewards The rewards for cremation come in 2 main forms: Items from cremation and an upgraded flail, as well as a small 79 prayer exp for each. Sadly there does not appear to be any other rewards for large number of kills. ---Regarding the Vyrewatch--- The Vyrewatch can be found not only around the maze that is Meiyerditch but also guarding its walls East of Burgh de Rott. The walls is the best place for them as it is easiest for banking and they are in abundant supply. For lower leveled hunter (below 70 Att, Str, Def) There is a spot just inside Meiyerditch near the store. As there is only a single isolated vyre and a safe spot to recover in, this may be a more comfortable method. [hide=Vyre Locations]Main Vyre Locations Vyre Spot for lower levels[/hide] There are 4 levels of Vyrewatch at the walls: 110, 120, 130 and 140. There are also additional level found during Burgh de Rott Ramble and Temple Trekking, but these are unreliable slow if you want to kill large numbers. What is also worth noting is there are male and female versions of each, in most cases the males being the stronger. A male 110 will generally hit a lot harder and a lot more often than a female 140, and be warned that the male 140s can take your health down very quickly. It is hard to spot the difference immediately due to their speed, but the males do a loop as part of their attack. If you are low on health or are a lower level, I advise avoiding the males or the 140s. Other signs ar that only the males have a "talk to" option, and there are colour differences. When killing Vyres beware of killing them while flying over rocks or water. If they die and their drop falls on the rocks, you cannot take the body. The best spot for 110s is, however, right near the two northern rock formations, a close second being a little further south; again near a rock formation. ->Killing Conventionally The Vyres appear weakest to crush attacks, ironically making the flails aggressive attack more accurate than its accurate attack. Also for this reason it is advise to wear a Dwarven Helm (grim tales quest) as it offeres a +6 crush attack bonus, or a Fighter Hat (Barb assault) for its +5 crush. It has also been suggested that use of a Warrior Helm and Warrior ring the boost to the slash attacks is enough to make it more accurate again than the crush, but on Onyx Ring (i) (from MobAr) offers +6 crush and is overall the best ring for the situation. The holy symbol or salve amulet do NOT work here but luckily the Vyres have very low defense. Their attacks are accurate and moderately powerful so good armour is advised: A barrow platebody and A barrow legs piece (ideally veracs for prayer bonus). As usual dragon boots, barrow gloves and a fury are advised along with a fire cape or skill cape. Naturally this is just an ideal kit, and the usual cheaper options apply, focussing on melee defense. For lower defence players the use of excalibur may be recommendable. If not, make use of the flail specials to reduce the amount of time you spend under active attack. [hide=PIC-Suggested Gear for Killing Vyres Conventionally][/hide] ->Killing with Prayer (FREE killing) This is the ideal method of killing. The Vyrewatch have a very slow attack and so by switching off prayer between their attacks and only using Protect from Melee as they go to hit you, prayer can be artificially made to last tremendous time. With top prayer gear and a maxed flail it is possible to kill 50 vyres using as little as 38 prayer points. This is aided by the Flail's high prayer bonus (5). Use of Proselyte, Ardougne Cape 3, and Bandos/white bootsl, saving the glove, ring, helm and amulet slots for the important attack boosting Barrow Gloves, Onyx Ring, Dwarven Helm, and Fury Ammy. In this configuration a prayer bonus of +30 is achieved and the prayer drain per kill is under 1 prayer point. [hide=Suggested Gear for Killing Vyres with Prayer][/hide] Because it is best to burn every 50 kills if you pray at an alter when burning, it is possible to never need any food or potions by this method: there are zero costs related to the killing. Choosing a less extreme prayer gear is also an option, e.g. Warrior Helm or Dwarven Helm for the Mitre, and the choice of gear may vary depending on personal preference, what quests have been completed, and what equipment you have available. ->Notes on Kills There is a damage cap on vyres meaning that you cannot hit them for more than 25. For this reason, once you are strong enough or have a good enough flail, you do not need str pots. Equally, the use of strength boosting gear is not useful once past a certain point. Attack potions are still useful at all points, and some conventional killers may wish to consider the use of defense potions to reduce food usage. Recoils do not work! By the time the flail is maxed it takes a little under a minute to kill a Vyrewatch. To get an inventory of bodies generally will take around 2 doses of a super potion, topping up when the effects have nearly worn off. This helps you planning your supplies.[/hide] ---Drops--- The loot is a mixed bunch. I estimate around 3m profit over my 1000 kills, others may find slightly different results. Around 1/3 of that was in valuable herbs and seeds, 1/3 in alchable items (especially rune items) and 1/3 in misc items. Of that 3m the only notable Items I had were a Guthix Kiteshield and a Black Full Helm (g). Clearly the income is not in rare items, but mainly in lots of moderate items building up. This leads for very reliable profits, although you only get 80-100k gp an hour. Torn pages were originally one of the highest drops as they were removed from treasure trails. As these have been returned the prices have settled again but they remain a healthy boost to your profits. It is also of note I gained around 60 blue charms from the vyres over 1000 kills, plus other charms. - RyderJ boasts some worthy drops ->Droplist Here is a list of currently known drops. Charms can be dropped in ADDITION to another items. On average you get around 3-4 charms per inventory of 13 burns, and blues are not uncommon. For this reason the possibilities of rare items may be understated as most of these were reported as single item boasts, not as part of a detailed log.[/hide] ---Ivandis Flail--- The Ivandis flail is the only weapon that can damage the vyrewatch. To start with it is around twice as good as Wolfbane making it a reasonable silver weapon if slow at attacking. However, that is not where it ends: For every 50 cremations you will get a message saying you feel more experienced with the flail. This boost can happen 10 times, the last being on 500 kills and marking the point when all names are crossed off on the lecturn. ->Making Flails More flails can be made by the same method as in the quest. Each costs: 2 mith bars 3 silver bars 1 sapphire 1 emerald lvl 1 and 2 enchants. you also need moulds for the Rod of Ivandis (using soft clay on his tomb), the silver sickle, and the silvthril chain. To start with make a Silvthril staff at a furnance with silver bar, mithril bar, a saphire and the Rod of Ivandis mould on you. This must be enchanted with lvl 1 enchant then dipped in the River Salve Well at Paterdomus. A silvthril chain is made with a silver bar, mithril bar and the chain mould at a furnace. A silver sickle is made with a silver bar and a sickle mould at a furnace. This must be blessed at the nature grotto in Mort Myre. An emerald can then be added with a chizel on you and this is enchanted with lvl 2 enchant It should be noted that while you can only have 1 blessed sickle, you can have as many emerald encrusted sickles as you wish so remember this when blessing them Use the chain with the sickle and then the result with the Rod of Ivandis to get the Ivandis Flail. New flails are best made in batches so you have plenty ready. ->Boosts Each level of the flail increases its attack, strength and defense. While the actual displays stats of the flail do not change the following was noted: While the attack and defense are hard to estimate within a few boosts you will notice both that you are rarely missing your target, and that you are getting hit a lot less. By the final level it is estimated that the flail had attack stats in the region of 70-80 making it a very accurate weapon. This was tested by comparing its hit ratio to Verac's Flail on a variety of opponents. The strength is much easier to measure as the max hit of the flail very quickly goes up. It is estimated each boost gives +5 strength bonus which corresponds to around +1.25 to the max hit. Within a few levels you will find you reach the cap on the vyres and cannot hit over 25. People with higher strength will only find they reach this cap earlier. Higher boosts do tend to lead to higher proportions of high hits. ->Uses Outside Vyres Tests have shown that the damage boost does not apply outside vyres. However, those with high stats may find they can hit over 25 as this cap does not apply to other creatures. The accuracy does, however, count and against tests of trolls, werewolves, shades and guards the maxed flail was found to have higher accuracy than veracs flail. In spite of increased accuracy the flail does not have the required accuracy to be of use in PvP situations and tests against a heavily armoured opponent showed it to be highly ineffective. Note the boosts only apply to the Ivandis Flail and not to any other weapons. It applies to your skill, not the flail itself so if you have several or make new ones, you will still experience the boosts on all of them. This has been confirmed by a member of Jagex Staff. ->Specials The flail's special is retainer and like the rod of ivandis can only be used on targets with under 50% health and only on Vyrewatch and Vampire Juvinates. The special suspends them frozen in the air. While like juvinates you can feed them guthix balance potion, all this does is 16 damage or so. However, as the stun lasts around 1 minute, this is still a powerful tactical advantage. This is confirmed by the KB entry on weapon specials. On using all of its 30 stun charges the flail crumbles and there is no way to recharge them so be careful to have a spare when using your last charge. The Flail can be used to cast bloom much like a sickle, and it also has a prayer bonus of 5 making it potentially useful in prayer gear. ---Closing--- The rewards for the minigame are worth it, although it is not a top money maker yet. The vyres take around 1 minute to kill each and this is one of the main limits on the game. The IV Flail will never be a top weapon or threaten them. However, many are starting to use it as their only weapon on the Burgh de Rott Ramble and Temple Treking as it is strong enough to handle anything found on there, as well as being a very worthy silver weapon and handling the new vyrewatch event. Mod Mark H has been taking notes and feedback and it is probable the development team will be adjusting the rewards in future. As such, it may be benificial to have an upgraded flail ready for that update so you have an advantage killing. However, it may be in your interest to save the keys for later. There has not yet been any new of progress made but it is confirmed that the report has been passed onto the Jagex Development Team for review. Hope you found this guide of use. I have received good feedback so far and always welcome more. Any extra finding, comments or corrections please post here and I will adjust my guide accordingly. Sorry if I can't give credit to every person to mention a drop, but I doubt anyone really cares to read a list of 50 names they'll never see again. Still, I thank them anyway. > Developments: I am now taking droplists to calculate drop %ages if you are going to submit drop lists please follow the following instructions: No less than 50 drops at a time, and they have to be consecutive. I can only use it if you give me the individual drops (if all you can say is "addy arrows" but not the number because it stacks, that's not a problem). If you can't follow these instructions I can't use your data. I don't plan to use biased data or small samples in my list. There is a large change it wont fit into this post so it'll likely show up on the 3rd post in a few hours. mrrogers
I have to say, this is one of the best, and the most informative guide i have ever seen. After reading this, i went out and did darkness of hallowvale and legacy of seergaze. I've started burning vyrewatches, and it's great money and fun. Thanks for making one of the best guides
Salad
Yo!! Cool you got it back. If you need pictures ask me because I finished school and got TOO much free time :D 10/10 because I helped you.
mrrogers
I owe you buddy! Check this out, 200 kills into it, zammy kite, 2 tooth halfs and 2 snapdragon seeds, all withing the same 50 kills. You should win a medal or something!
Tritous
cheers for the compliments. gratz on that invent, definately one of the best ive seen, zam kites tend to be in pretty high demand dont they? Wish i'd gotten a drop set like that :P. good luck on pushing for the 500 kills. if they do bring out another quest in the area maybe that flail has other things planned for it? At the very least vyres are fun and its good for temple treking. metalraider
Thank you very much for this great guide. I just finished Legacy of Seergaze and I was trying to get info about Vyrewatch slaying, but I couldn't find anything on the RS Forums or the guides in different fan sites. I am very glad to be able to kill those accursed Vyres and even make a profit off them. Btw, I am after a Zammy pages set . It seems that they are no longer on TT rewards  It seems unlikelly to get all 4 (or even one...) according to the percentages but let's see. I'll post my results after 50 kills. Well, thanks again for a very complete and well made guide. Cheers.
kurtvegita
Awesome guide here. I'm pushing for 500 kills myself here. Hopefully these guys will be good to train on. I can only kill the 110's though because I only have about 25 vyres down with 70 att and 80 with att pots, rounded. Hopefully things will become faster! Believe it or not, in the first 10 I popped on the fire, I received both halves of the crystal key in a row as I recall! The rest of the drops don't compare but the crystal key gave be about 50 of each rune which was a nice surprise. Well I am hoping to get 75 tomorrow and then 100 the following days... errr... realistically 25 tomorrow and 50 the following days. Maybe I should do a blog on this! metalraider
Well, I have killed 253 vyres in a couple days and made around 500k or so, wich is nice. So far I got 3 Dragon spears, 3 tooth half keys, 1 loop half, lots of herbs, seeds, runes and charms (-.-), some rune daggers and addy stuff for alching, but no TT items so far. Let's see what I get with the remaining 247 vyres. Still, it is a fun thing to do to break the rutine a little.
Tritous
aye, it's more entertaining than stands to reason lol. Gl getting your drops, although the tooth halves were some of my favourites (mainly because I bought 70 loops halves when they were at only 7k) I'm considering retaking the pictures with hd, but cant entirely decide Creater of QuestRanker "I hate it when my target's die laughing, makes me think my fly is open or something"-Me

nwor
The Vyres appear weakest to crush attacks, ironically making the flails aggressive attack more accurate than its accurate attack. This actually makes sense when you consider the reasoning behind why the flail can even hit Vyres at all. The flail is supposed to be unpredictable, so the Vyres can't use their psychic power to predict where it's going to hit them. If you use a more "accurate" attack style, you'd actually be doing the Vyres a favor. That's so cool that Jagex turned that part of the storyline into an actual combat feature. And kudos to you for figuring it out too.
Tritous
Tbh I was happy with that too. The difference between attack styles makes so little difference between monsters. Even with players it makes fairly minimal difference so it was nice to see it counting. fantomfiend
Its a neat guide, and looks like fun, but i can't navigate my way off the wall to get where you are. I've always hated meiyerditch for the reason there are no good guides to how to get around in it. EDIT: Found my way through. Those floorboards elude me everytime. Tritous
Sorry about the slow reply, not been checking my mail too much lol. You know how it is. Cheers for the droplog, give me 5 mins and I'll start adding it into the database :) edit: Done and added. Grats on a good number of rares. You've certainly made an impact on the percentages >.< Creater of QuestRanker "I hate it when my target's die laughing, makes me think my fly is open or something"-Me
Swainy
No problem. I'm taking a break from slaying those dastardly Vyrewatch at the moment but i will at least hit the 500 target. Maybe i'll horde my keys after that, you say they may change the drops sooner or later?

Tritous
Added that 150 thanks. It always interests me that people (including me) get impressed by a dragon drop when it's worth less than the rune plate. We should (if we were logical) be more impressed by snapdragon seeds and tooth halves lol I have a question: I've heard rumours that you can no longer get torn pages from clue scrolls. Is that true? If so that would make vyres the only source of torn pages. Tritous
if anything, going by the last few droplists i've added, I suspect the droprate from vyres has gone up. maybe it's to balance the tt having them made rarer?
