muggiwhplar
Might be quitting soon so I thought I'd dig into my bag of tricks for you guys :) This'll be the first trick I reveal (if I decide to keep doing these :P) Terrain Mastery Difficulty to master: 7/10 Helpfulness: 10/10 Requirements: Able to use binding spells which last for 10+ seconds (15+ recommended) Did you ever wonder that perhaps certain objects in RS had a bigger purpose than just pretty eye candy/scenery? That those wilderness signs do more than just warn you about the danger? That those fight pits viewing orbs allow you to do more than just spy on other players? That CW barricades do more than stop people from moving from point A to point B? Did you know that back when staking existed, mage stakers would use obstacles to trap their opponents to be temporarily untouchable? Well, the same principle applies outside of the duel arena as well. By using this trick, you'll be able to attack someone with a weapon with short reach such as a halberd or throwing knives and they won't be able to reach you, no matter what! First I'll explain a smaller, more well-known trick which you definitely need to learn before applying the main one. Pretend you're running away from someone and they're following you. Ignoring energy and offensive tactics, what's the best way to get away from them? Trap them. If you're running away from someone, you can easily get out of their sights by hugging a nearby obstacle to trap them behind it. A lot of PK'ers are really stupid and allow themselves to get trapped behind an obstacle and let you escape. Hopefully most of you already were aware of this or can figure out how to implement it w/o me needing to draw any diagrams or explaining it in further detail (though I can if you need me to :P) (Side note: Jagex seemed to have expected all players to know this tactic when they released FoG; sadly most people never used it and threw tantrums :P) Now, in order to accomplish the first step of this trick, you need to trap someone next to an obstacle. Though, since you aren't necessarily running away from someone, it'll be a lot easier to trap someone adjacent to an obstacle. In fact, you fail to trap them the first time, you can just run around in circles around the obstacle till they're at an appropriate location. Once they're there, it's best to stand next to them so they'll stay put until bound or frozen. Keep in mind I've only researched this w/ obstacles taking up a 1x1 square - I don't think this works with any larger obstacles. Fortunately there's more than enough 1x1 obstacles in RS :P You can trap your opponent in 4 possible locations; they must be trapped either directly north, south, east, or west of a 1x1 obstacle for this to work. Once bound or frozen at the appropriate location, you must stand at another specific location in order to be unreachable. Here is a diagram of the locations :) The black square represents the 1x1 obstacle. The colored squares represent where to stand after freezing someone at the appropriate location. Remember, your opponent must be stuck adjacent to the obstacle (north/south/east/west). So for example, if you trap your opponent north of the obstacle (blue square), you can stand on either of the two blue squares south of where your opponent is trapped to attack them safely. Also note that if someone's frozen at either the north or south locations, you can stand at the red or green spots adjacent to the obstacle to safely range them as well. I just didn't know how to draw that on the diagram w/o ruining the simplicity :P Here's some places where you can take advantage of this trick *Fight Pits (viewing orbs) *Wilderness (signs) *Castle Wars (barricades - you can place these wherever you want :)) So there you go. Make good use of it - hopefully people start using more skill in their battles, rather than relying on pure luck :) Also, please don't move this to the guides section >_> This was meant to be a brief tip which won't be heard of again after it's moved off the front page, not a method which I continue to advocate and encourage like my guides :P

J35u5_M4
I don't get it :S, you can stand wherever you want to if you're going to attack them like this, freeze and stand wherever you want, they can't reach you, maybe you could explain it a little better to me, to see the object of this? Thanks EDIT: Or, is this tecnique used without freezing them? (Meaning they get stucfk by themselves and not you freezing or whatever)
muggiwhplar
you freeze them at a certain spot then stand at another certain spot and you'll be able to attack them but they won't be able to attack you - even if you're using throwing knives and they're using a longbow

Grasle
I was under the impression that it only worked when the obstacle was either east or west of the victim. Your player functions like and NPC unless you tell it to do otherwise. So, naturally, moving east/west is a priority before north/south (meaning since your player cannot move east/west, it doesn't try to move north/south until you click again). But, maybe I'm confusing myself. I looked at it a second time and realized that the positions aren't all completely diagonal. I'm not sure about the other positions, so perhaps those indeed work.
