Play an MMORPG? Post it here!

Recommended Posts

Well, lately theres been plenty of posts about different MMOs and what is so good about them. So, i've decided to make this post to stop them asking and they can just look here instead.

Mods feel free to lock this if this is not allowed

---Things to remember---

1) One post per MMO. I will make a post below this one to list all the MMOs currently listed and will update it frequently. Press CTRL+F and type your MMOs name to find it

2) Make it consise, do not write an entire essay on your MMO, try and just make a short list.

3) Try to upload all pictures/screenshots on http://www.imageshack.us. They keep their uploaded files hosted for a long time. They also allow a thumbnail function, use it.

4) Provide all appropriate weblinks, if these include a referral link they will be removed.

5) Use this form to layout your MMO:

Name:

Screenshots: (Imageshack.us will provide these links)

Pros:

Cons:

Neutral: (Some will consider Pros, some will consider Cons.)

Other info: (Things such as membership costs, if applicable)

6) If you have any questions about any of the MMOs mentioned, PM the member who originally posted it.

7) If you have an MMO but are in the middle of compiling the information, reserve a post. When reserving the post, just say the name of it. I will update the post about which MMOs are up but label it as incomplete.

8) You may share information if you play an MMO via PM.

9) Please, NO FLAMING! It's just a piece of spam we could do without.

10) Know any other Tip.It members who play? Add their name to your post. But only add their In-Game name if they want you to. Not many people like a random person to suddenly start talking to them.

That's it, get writing :)

MapleStory

ScreenShots:

Creepy Door o_O

healingtymedead1lv.th.jpg

Whoo, I died!

Pros: Unique graphics

Party / Guild feature

Much less noobs (Compared to RS)

Fame system

Free!

Cool clothes can be bought via the in-game cash shop

Each login ID can create 3 characters per server*. Each server contains 20 channels.

When you die, you lose a % of your EXP (based on LUK) and not items.

Cons: Takes time to level

Since you can only really fight, making money can be difficult.

The cash shop requires real money

LOTS of money-drains; trades have a tax, guilds cost 1.5 Mil etc.

Hackers are on the loose, but an in-game report can easily thwart them.

Neutral: Can only be one class; bowman, warrior, magician and thief.

No PvP

Fighting orientated

Mana, not runes

Button-bashing, not click and wait

Official forum. (Its actually not ugly ^_^)

Other Info: $5 = 5000 NX cash (cash shop money)

Requires a client to be downloaded via the home page

*There are 6+ servers, each server is started from new.

name: Lineage 2

screenshots: [will edit post tomorrow with some]

pros:

- don't have to play on a retail server. There are tons of good free servers up for the game. Just google 'free lineage 2 servers' and go to the top 200.

- Best (imo) pvp out of any game. If you play retail / find a good server has some amazing castle sieges as well.

cons:

- if you play retail, prepare for grind. It's a fairly slow game. [however, on private servers they almost always have rates boosted, like anywhere from 5-60x the normal xp / gold rates.]

- On free servers some things don't work. however, they all have the 'important' (most of them at least, the good ones) stuff, such as castle sieges and events.

neutral:

- PvP is open ended. Basicly, you can kill a person anywhere, and there is no rules on who can kill who. However, you do get 'karma' , which is basicly a penalty for killing someone.

Other info:

- Retail costs 15$ a month (worth it if you have a lot of time to spend. I played retail for a month here in march, enjoyed it but none of my friends followed so I quit.)

- Free servers are well, free.

I'll edit with screenies tomorrow. :)

Name: Guild Wars

Screenshots: Check their website or GWonline

Pros:

- The graphics is truly awesome. Each new spot in the game just blows your mind; the lighting, how the atmosphere changes, the effects when you cast a spell, as well as the monsters, how realistic your cape moves when you're running around as well as fighting etc.... really nice. The screenshots don't do the game any justice.

- The amount of quests this game has is unbelievable, and so far, the main quest is very nice.

- The clan/guild system this game has is something I haven't experienced in any other MMORPG before. You can tell they have put their main effort into this aspect of the game. When you create a new guild, you get to design the guild cape (all members in your guild will get one), from, what seems to be an unlimited amount of cape-designs, emblems and colours. When you have enough money, you can also buy a Guild Hall for your guild, which is like a lounge for the members to hang around in (I haven't been in one personally though, but I very much like the idea.)

Cons:

- Guild Wars is too combat-oriented for my liking. It would be nice to have a few extra skills to train, like mining and smithing.

- The game is very linear, in the sense that you can't for example walk off edges, jump over tree branches, and some areas that should be "walk-able" aren't. So basically, you can't stroll around on your own, which is one of the main things I look for in RPGs. Basically, it's a lot/exactly like the Neverwinter Nights series.

Those things are basically the reason I'm thinking of moving over to WoW.

Neutral: Due to the linear-ness (uh) the game has, the only place you can meet people is in the cities, since, basically, each road you take will lead you to a quest or a tough boss... so imagine if it wasn't like that, it would be chaos. Another thing is that the (current) combat-level cap is 20. It takes you around two or three weaks to reach that (depending how many hours you play... but I'd say 2-3 hours a day.)

Other info: There are no monthly fees. But they will release expansions (Guild Wars: Factions will be released 28th of April). However, you don't need to buy those in order to keep playing, but they will bring advantages such as new classes and items etc.

It's a game where you hire a band of mercenaries(one time cost) to fight against other players.

Pros:

Easy to see ranking system

Free

Addons(options for your account)

Cons:

Those who pay(for gold, spy) have an advantage over you

Neutral:

Text-based

Doesn't take more than an hour a day

Ill post my other MMO then. :)

Roto X

Screenshots: N/A. Text-Based

Pros: The energy for doing things can be rejuvenated via sleeping (Not necessarily overnight). Energy is automatically refilled every night.

The bank has a 3% interest nightly.

Cons: Energy is required to do fights/jobs/dig.

You can't do much without getting into a faction/clan. But that isn't very hard anyway o_O.

Neutral: Text based.

"Rewards Center" can provide quick, easy money. Simply vote.

Not purely fighting based. Jobs are possible.

Other info: "Supporter" (Member) available, either by donating money or providing a good news article.*

Your "home" allows you to put a personal picture up. (Not necessarily a real photo. Kinda like a display picture)

*Not really sure what thats all about really...

Name: Silkroad Online

Pros: Unique gameplay, storyline, and fun systems like merchanting, hunting, and thieving.

Cons: Gets a little slow in the beginning

Neutral: Blah, it's not the best game, but it is kind of fun.

Other info: The game is free forever, but you can buy silk online to use in an "item mall" to grab special things like pets, xp boosting scrolls, and such.

Ugh, another bump in disguise...

Well, im sorta bumping this to add one more thing...

If you know any other Tip.It members who play your MMORPG, be sure to put their name on it (if they want you to that is). Just don't put their in-game name on unless they want you to.

Also, I did a little research... Theres bound to be atleast someone who plays one of these games.
