How2PK
50 years? A lot of bands from the past are still played nowadays, bands such as the beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, solo artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Johny Cash, The Beach Boys the list goes on and on. I think we can all agree that the pop scene nowadays isn't that great, thus I was wondering what bands from these days will be remembered like bands/solo artists from 40/50 years ago. Let's consider modern the past 15 years. I can't really think of many bands/ solo artists. At the moment all I can think of is Robbie Williams, Radiohead, Coldplay, Oasis (or is that older?), Eminem, Tupac, Dr. Dre and some other hip hop artists. What do you think? Maybe Jamie Cullum, with his nice 'new' crossover-jazz. And some other new artists, but that's a bit too early to say, I think. Also I think the Boybands will be remebered aswell. Necromagus
I think boybands will be remembered in the same way hair metal will be remembered. It was fun but please, for the love of all that's holy, never again. Barking-Loon
Yeah the boybands will be remembered, atleast by us who lived when they roamed the earth and probably when they start realising albums like "Golden Oldies- The best of 1990-2000". A recent study shows that 92% of all teenagers have small purple pet elephants named Jack. Bubsa
I'd pretty much agree with Daan's list. I'd add Kanye West to there as well. This is how much you all raised for charity. Thank you.
Goliath
Definetly Robbie Williams, I think he will be remembered as one of the best entertainers.
Phil
A few others I think... Madonna, Snoop Dogg, Red Hot Chili Peppers
KnightofDoom
Bands such as RHCP and Blink 182 did a lot for their genres, think they will be remembered solely for that reason
Escape5
I think all good classic rock will be remembered forever. Especially the Beatles. You wont be hearing rap and hip hop like 50 cent or Gwen Stefani 20 years from now, will you? Hell they still play AC/DC, Rush, Scorpions, The Beatles and much much more, and most those bands are still going strong. Even bands that died 30 years ago, still have their music played, because it is MUSIC! Rap isnt music, its nothing but talking with a beat, and have big booty girls in your videos. HeRap isnt music, its nothing but talking with a beat, and have big booty girls in your videos. You do realise that many people said that about rap music 20 years ago. Similar things were said in the early days of rock and roll, and the same with the blues and reggae etc. Just because you personally dont enjoy listening to a genre of music doesnt mean its just a fad, any artist of quality from any genre will be remembered in some way. How2PK
A few others I think... Madonna, Snoop Dogg, Red Hot Chili Peppers Yea, Snoop Dogg deff. I was thinking of Madonna as well, but I thought she was more from the earlier 80's. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore! hohto
Black metal bands from late 80s and 90s will be remembered amongst the people who still follow the grim arts. However, that's only if the genre doesn't totally die, at the moment it looks really bad with all these commercial teenage bands like CoF or (new) Dimmu Borgir. If the genre doesn't die, bands like Bathory, Venom, Burzum and Darkthrone won't be forgotten. I'd rather die for what I believe in than live for anything else.Name Removed by Administrator ~Turtlefemm
Average_Hobo
I don't know if this really counts but Nirvana is going to be remembered for a long time. Coldplay, RHCP, and a few of the others will be around for quite some time. Don't be forgetting U2 though, I dislike their music but there amazingly popular. MyPurpleCrayon
To add to the list. Five Iron Frenzy definitley. I think Weezer also... Don't really like them but everyone seems to. Green Day, they have been around for ages... everyone will remember them, even if you don't like them. Ghost: I am prejudice towards ignorance, so that would explain why I appear to be so. Sunwarriord
Don't be forgetting U2 though, I dislike their music but there amazingly popular. Uh U2's been here for a while. 1980s Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down will probably be remembered. i don't listen to much newer music so i don't really know who'd be famous in 50 years. But dude, i don't think a lot us truly listen to a bunch of music from the 50s. like 60s +
Mr_Putter
As for RIGHT NOW, that are big in say the last 10 years...And remember in 50 years? I'm gonna be brutally honest and say I can't see it happening. Not in the last 5 years anyway.
Barking-Loon
Do not flame please Somehow I started to think about Marlyn Manson, Im pretty sure he will be remembered. Yeah, I think Eminem and Tupac will definitely be around in 50 years. Songs like "Changes" by Tupac or "Lose Yourself" by Eminem practically define their genres. They are about rising up from the street, and they don't need "big booty girls." That message will still be relevent in 50 years. (btw, eminem's last big album, "Encore," was mostly just mainstream junk, so that probably won't stick around. But stuff from the SSLP, MMLP, and Eminem Show is distinctive and lasting.) 50 Cent and Gwen Stefani are obviously passing fads, though. Just like The Backstreet Boys. I dunno about Snoop Dogg :? As for Marlyn Manson, I don't think he will ever be remembered as anything more than an oddity. :? I bet metallica will still be around, though. And although I think Coldplay is very good, I don't think it's going to stand the test of time. Clocks might be around for a while, but the rest will probably be forgotten. We'll see
AThousandLies
I think that bands now will not be remembered for as long as bands several decades ago (i.e. we still remember the Beatles, Pink Floyd etc now, but I doubt many people will remember bands from this era in around 30 or 40 years). Maybe like, 20 years. But not much more than that. The grunge movement burned out fairly fast ... so I doubt Nirvana will be remembered for years and years. I'd say: Radiohead Joy Divison (they're still remembered 25 years on; they started the entire post-punk/goth movement which doesn't seem to be dying out any time soon) Depeche Mode (one of the pinnacle bands of the new-romantic era) The Cure David Bowie (he'll be long regarded as one of the greatest solo artists of all time) Faith No More (arguably the most diverse band ever ... but I don't think they ever received the appreciation they deserved) New Order (first white dance/synth-pop group) Muse Marilyn Manson (mostly for his infamy; his golden era was Mechanical Animals, seven years ago ... I think he's on his way down) Tool (for their oddity, non-traditional structure and experimentation) System of a Down (for similar reasons to Tool) Nine Inch Nails (one of the biggest bands of the 90's; one of the few who isn't dying out and at the same time is indirectly responsible, along with other artists, for many new musical movements)
assassin_696
I think a lot of the new male solo artists like James Blunt will be remembered in time. And the indie type bands like Franz Ferdinand, the Kaiser Chiefs etc. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
