ok, this is not a rant, more of a casual, disclaimer..... from personal experiance, do not trust people in this game. In my event, i was at the rock crabs at rellekka, and i met some pretty great people who were fun to talk to. i kept some as friends for a while now, and we talked, alot. we would talk about anything ever, and maybe he/she and i would slip through jagex censors, and curse, little did i know back stabber reported me for every little thing, and every little thing, was denied by jagex appeal system. they cursed too, ill have you know.... so in my event, i have learned a valuable life skill, never trust people.

sooo

feel free to share stories such as mine.

<3

i know what i did was foolish, and aginst the rules, but i guess, i got what was comming to me :(

That's harsh. Never trust people you say, what about family, your friends, your soul-mate? You shouldn't trust them?

Just because you were breaking the rules by trying to by-pass the censor and your friend was doing the right thing, you say EVERYONE's untrustable?

=; =; =;

People are trustable, it's just weeding out the trust'ee's from the baddies.

I have a better rule that you can use in your life in Runescape.

"Always follow the rules that Jagex has made in every situation in the game."

If you had not broken the rules and evaded the censors in chat then the person that you are talking about would have had no reason to report you. The rules are in place for a reason and you should follow them. They have not been made to be broken. They were made to be followed and enforced.

At least you know better now. Hopefully........

Hmm... Censor evasion, as you mentioned yet everybody keeps pointing it out, is against the rules. With that being said, accidents happen. I don't know HOW many times I have tried to say "sec" and accidently hit the letter x instead of c. The commonly accepted assumption is that your friends would either tell you that they will report you the next time or would understand the slip up and forgive/forget. If, for example, an (adult!) friend got on drunk and started using a lot of foul language, I would tell them to cool it. If they were saying things that I found VERY offensive, I would warn them to stop or I will report them. Would I? Most likely not. Why? Because the ignore button works better and they aren't themselves that night.

The people who go against that common assumption in this game view a possible (but unlikely) chance at gaining pmod status over their "friends". That is selfish and decietful. If somebody constantly avoids the censor, tell them to stop. If they don't, tell them you will report the next one. If they do it again, you have ever right to report them. In my opinion, pms between friends should be considered somewhat private. No, they shouldn't avoid the filter, but you should not be hoping that they do so you can report them. Request a change, give a warning, and then put them on ignore and/or report them. I choose the ignore method if they were a decent friend and the report button if what they said was atrocious. You should be able to trust that your friends have your best interests at heart and if they are baiting you and secretly reporting it, they have only their own interests at heart regardless of whether they are following the rules. A stranger deserves a warning first, a report second. A friend should be deserving of a request first so that they can change their behavior.

I do not know where you fell into that, but those are my views. I would be equally peeved if somebody reported all of my "Be right back in a ***"'s. I would not even possibly report them unless they intentionally avoided the censor repeatedly after a requested change in language and a warning. While they did nothing wrong in the rules, they violated common courtesy as a friend.

The only thing that came close to this was when a "friend" claimed that I hacked him and demanded that I explain how to hack somebody to get back what he lost. While this was not censor evasion, it was against the rules. I requested he change his tune, warned him that he would be reported if he continued, and (in this case) reported him and put him on ignore. He was given a week ban I believe. Months later when I was cleaning out my ignore list he messaged me saying that he was sorry and that he had learned his lesson. We didn't become friends again but he felt he got what he deserved and that I did my part as a friend to warn him of the consequences. Oh, and he was nevered hacked, he just thought that I would know how because I was a high-level.

As an off-shoot of that: If somebody tells me that they scam or otherwise are abusive towards others they devolve from "stranger" or "friend" to "loser". Instant report, message saying that I did so, and straight to the ignore. I do not condone that kind of behavior from my closest friend in real life, let alone in a game. If a friend was abusing his wife/kids for example, I would go straight to the police (provided that it wasn't an ACTUAL accident i.e. they closed the car door on their wife's fingers or some other accident that could appear as abuse) and do what I could to prevent it from happening again. These people need prison time in real life and a permanent ban in-game.

I do not think that you are necessarily under attack. You came on here complaining about how a friend reported you for breaking a rule. I have no sympathy. The rules are there for a reason and the report funtion is there for a reason. Like I said before, if you had not broken the rule then there would be no problem and you would not be on here telling us that we should "trust noone".

Completely your own fault, break the rules and expect to be punished. Btw, you can trust people: IRL friends, partners, family?

I don't think this proves anything on the front of don't trust people.

Whgat it does prove though is break rules and avaid the censor and you will get your come upence eventually

As far as I can see from that story its your own fault as your the one who broke the rules, as for them reporting you, how do you even know it was them? It could of beenn any single person standing around in tht area.

If you don;t wanna get offences on your account don;t bend or break rules simple as

And as for the trust thing, me and my friends all trust each other etc largely on rs, but if one of us breaks the rules the others do report them. Its nothing to do with trust its do with fair play & respect for others. You wanna curse and avoid cencor expect to get reported

Too many wannabe mods around who will report you for any stupid thing, I only report someone who is blatently swearing and being abusive, there is swearing and there is abusive swearing, I am an adult and can differentiate between the two, I also have a ignore button if someone is annoying me. I could also tell if someone was being abusive when I was 13,

If your old enough to play Runescape you are old enough to hear swear words imo, sexual swearwords are not nessesary but the odd s**t and D**n here and there is not going to kill anyone.

Swear at your own risk, it's against the rules, and you may get banned, and on a side note never trust anyone in Runescape even if you think they are your best mate, you will get burnt :)

hehe, how about never trust anybody on runescape?

I never report people, with 2 exceptions

1- they are cheating (macroing, scamming... etc)

2- they are intentionally acting extremely inappropriate to bother people (just spamming because you think it is funny, or even having fun dodging around the censor is not serious enough to merit a ban) One time I told a slightly off-color joke, and a wanna-be mod reported me. I was terrified  I think people put far too much work into their accounts to lose it just because of some poor judgement on their part that didn't really hurt anyone. Like RAHK said, if the person is really bothering you, the ignore list is much easier.

You hit the nail on the head, people have to remember runescape takes up alot of time and hard work, and now and again people will swear or curse, we are all only human and I am a bit worried about people being banned. I have also noticed an increase in 13yr old player Mods, I am not against youngsters giving it a shot, This must go to show they are reporting for every little incident to get their tally up. I'm with Bob on this one :)

well no, i didnt quite tell the whole story ok?

the event was sort of what RAHK said, i would say, "well i did'nt say that" but still, jagex's censors are kinda rusy, and would have hte 'nt in **

soo, obivously she reported me, i am not saying i did not curse, i did like twice, but friends are supposed to be friends, she cursed more then i would ever, but yet, everything i said, even mis-spells that were *'d would be counted aginst me, so, i also beleave what RAHK said, she was probably just greedy, and wanted to be a pmod, and private messages should remain prive, but idk, im sorry if i got you mixed up, and frustraited in this :|

I disagree with the term wannabe mod. (Though one exeption are the Wrong-forum-post-here-in-the-future-post-can-a-mod-lock-this-I-don't-report-posts posts. Those are bad. But that's not the point.) The only reason you would say that if you were pissed off because you broke the rules and got caught. It's not the reporters fault, it's the offender. Though what that guy did was very selfish in my eyes.

Whether or not you like it, the rules still exist. Even though you may disagree with them, you can still get busted for breaking them. It's your choice if you wanna break them, but don't get all pissed off because you got in trouble. I, personally like to break the "offensive language" rule to tell a joke or story. I've gotten caught once, and I had no regret. I didn't call anyone a wannabe mod or anything. All I said was "It's not them Jews that are greedy, it's them danged pures!" Not really offensive in my eyes... I guess I just upset a few of them danged pures. ... And no offense to Jewish people. I was just poking fun at the stereotype, not saying I was a racist or anything.
