jemathonical
That's pretty smart of Jagex, it only took them a couple of years to realise... ^Sir Jem 05-The Bunny Drinking Blog?^ Click it!
Ethiery
That's pretty smart of Jagex, it only took them a couple of years to realise... Or perhaps, this might sound crazy. Coding something that checks EVERYONE'S password, while keeping it secure, and actually checking each time to block out whole sentences that contain it. "Might" be alittle difficult. It's not hard to compare spelled words with words that are not allowed and replacing it with something else. Heck, they already had the chatfiler. But oh well... another update for the brainless. Well, this is true or not. A 'chatfilter' looks for naughty words, usually checkiong a pre-set list of 'naughties'. Since it's impossible to have a preset list with everyone's unique password, it's likely alil more difficult. A man who doesn't read, is no smarter than a man who can't read. I'm simply saying, to me, perhaps it be alil more difficult than we'd think. A man who doesn't read, is no smarter than a man who can't read. Iamdan
Since I know how to code, I do know what jagex would do, at least roughly. There is no way that jagex would do every single password separately, or anything else when they can make a variable. If you don't know anything about coding, don't make assumptions about it. He's right. You can't just add everyone's password to the filter list... what if someone's password is dragon, etc? It would be fairly hard for them, they would of had to implement an entire new block of code for this.
Iamdan
He's right. Who is "he"? Ok for those who do not understand, Jagex would have made what is called a variable. Lets call this variable userpassword The variable would have been declared as the current users password. (Whatever the syntax is for that) Then put in the censor list. When the player types his/her password, since their password is declared as userpassword, and userpassword is stored as a variable in the censor list, it is then blocked. Markup
Not only does this stop people from accidently falling for scams it can also prevent account trading unless the people give each other msn adresses or other details which is also agaisnt the rules... You got only half of it correct... The variable wouldnt be part of the censor list because it would make all password's censored for everybody. My take is that the filter now checks for the censor list and that variable to EACH user...EVERYTIME a player writes something. Its not that difficult but i bet it puts a whole lot of stress to process it *** [ END ]: You gained 1,671,000 thieving exp in 9mins 44secs. Iamdan
^^ The variable would be saved as the users password. The user who is logged in, the variable would change for others, because that's what variables do. So each user only has their own password blocked. The user sends the message to the message center, there it checks for words to be censored, THEN it checks if the password of the user is part of the message, then after changing the needed parts into "*" they send back the message to be displayed. The censor is not built into the game client (What loads when you play Runescape) its a server (I guess there is one of these per world). So once the message is finally displayed its final. Its not re-censored for every person seing it Quest cape obtained at combat level 83, march 07.

Iamdan
The censor is not built into the game client its a server (I guess there is one of these per world). Correct. So once the message is finally displayed its final. Its not re-censored for every person seing it I didn't say that. I said that the password variable would change for every user. So if somebodies password was 123654 their password variable would be 123654. If somebody else's password was 987456 their password variable would be exactly that. Person 1 can still say 987456 because that is not their own password variable. Anyway details are not important, there are many ways jagex could do it. My point was that jagex would use a variable, rather than do every account individually.
