0.0) Introduction

So you want to do some Barrowing? Have you read up on all these guides around the Archive? Thought so. Don't have the levels to do it? Well this will help! You can read through this guide to help you fulfill your Barrowing dreams. Now, this guide is not the end-all of how-to Guides. This is just here to provide you, the potential Barrower, with knowledge that you'll need to fight the Brothers. How are you going to get the levels required? How are you going to get around? That's what I'm here for.

Now, don't you dare read this guide as a "Bible to Barrows Training" of sorts. No, it's far from it. I'm not going to baby you through all your training up until your 80+ combat days. There are things you'll have to figure out on your own, quests you'll need to do. Learn how to navigate the Tip.It website to find all the finer details. Most importantly, we have a Help & Advice Forum for a reason; use that! You might even find me hanging out around there to help answer your questions. Now, let's get Barrowing! Er.. training.

0.5)Suggested Reading: What you'll need to know

Check it out; a must read for any aspiring Slayer.

Agility Guide => Although it may not seem like this would be very critical, it is. Agility will allow you to run more each level you get. This definitely speeds up your Slaying tasks and questing. Get this to at least 40 throughout all your training.

Runecrafting Guide => If you want to train your magic as cheaply as you can, then Runecrafting is the skill for you. You'll be able to make all your runes and then go spend them away on Magic! Or you could make Nats for quick money at any time.

Construction Guide => Wha?! You may be thinking "what does this have to do with Barrows?" Well, if you really want to get your Barrowing done quickly and efficiently, you'll need a house with at least 50 Construction. An altar to recharge Prayer and a quick teleport to Canifis are provided through it.

Ancient Magicks => Although this isn't required for Barrows, if you want a quick teleport to Canifis, you'll need it. Also, you'll need to get your magic level a tad higher than is required by this guide.

Barrows Guide => This is the Tip.It's version of a Barrows guide. Read up on it for general details.

1.0)Beginner's Training: Off the Island..

  • What you'll need: You get everything you need from Tutorial Island.

    Recommended levels: None.

So now that you're fresh off the Tutorial Island, what are you going to do? Well... I assume that since you're already reading up on Barrowing guides, you'll be a little farther past "just" getting off the island.

So what you're going to want to aim here is for 20/20/20 Melee Stats. I'd suggest training your attack first and foremost, so you can hit harder and more often. I'd go in stages of 5/1/1, 10/5/5, and finally 20/20/20. There are multiple ways to do this, and the choice is up to you. Chickens, Goblins, Cows, Men, Minotaurs.. many others. I'd personally go for Minotaurs, as they'll drop many iron arrows vital to your ranged training.

Now go out and buy you some Mithril armour and weaponry!

  • Levels obtained: 20 Attack/Strength/Defense

What you've gotten: Some feathers, iron arrows, other miscellaneous drops.

2.0)Lower-Intermediate Training: Getting there..

  • What you'll need: Mithril Armour/Weapon, net, feathers.

Recommended levels: 20 Attack, 20 Strength, 20 Defense.

So now you've got your shiny new mithril armour and you're all set up and ready to go. I bet you didn't know that mithril armour is actually lighter than the other metal armours! Just a random tidbit. So where are you going to train now? Better yet, what will you be eating?!

Now that you're getting into intermediate training, I would suggest moving onto a spot of fishing and cooking. You should know the basics.. Net shrimp and anchovies until 20 Fishing (30 preferably). Then, if you happened to kill chickens to get your levels, use those feathers and get to fishing! If not, then just go kill a few chickens; 1k feathers should hold you for some time. Fly fish in Barbarian Village for now, and bank in Edgeville or Varrock.

Once you've got all that done, you can get around to cooking them. Hopefully you kept and/or cooked all your shrimp and anchovies, possibly even your chicken/cow killing so you'll have the level to cook trout. If not, get it up to 15 (preferably 20) however you can. Cook ALL of your trout first, this will help you burn less salmon when you cook those. There, a bunch of trout and salmon to use for training. The best place for you to cook would be Al-Kharid if you are still a free player, or the Rogue's Den for members.

Since you've now gotten 20 in your melee stats, it's time to start ranging. Grab your bow and some iron arrows (see? shoulda killed some Minotaurs) and start ranging. I'd say start small, with men, chickens, or goblins, or cows. You won't need a safespot, as they don't hit higher than 1 or 2. :D Once you hit 20 Ranged, go grab a Willow Shortbow and start training on Minotaurs in the Stronghold of Security. Bring the fish you cooked to heal off of; probably 10-15 per load, maybe more. You'll figure that part out through trial and error. You'll get a nice return on the arrows you use, as well as some rune essence and other small things. Get your range to 30 for now, then we can get back to melee.

So now that you've got a decent Ranged level, we can start some more swordfighting. Take out your handy armour, weapon, and some food and head to your favorite training spot. Again, I suggest Minotaurs at this level because of the sheer amount of iron arrows you get. Go ahead and take the leap to 40/40/40. You know what time it is now!

Dragon Slayer! If you haven't done any quests up to this point, you better start. You'll have to do nearly all the nonmembers quests first in order to do Dragon Slayer. You can read up on the Tip.It guide on Dragon Slayer to help you out; I'm not going to walk you through it. Once you've completed your quest, you can now wear that lovely Rune Plate! Back to training.

  • Levels obatined: 40 Attack/Strength/Defense, 30+ Fishing, 30+ Cooking, 30 Ranged.

What you've gotten: Rune armour and weapon, training food, more range and mage supplies.

3.0)Upper-Intermediate Training: You've got your bearings..

  • What you'll need: Rune Armour/weapon, food, Ranging supplies, Maging supplies.

    Recommended levels:40 Attack, 40 Strength, 40 Defense, 30 Range, 25 Magic,

So now that you've got your Rune Armour strapped on and your lovely Rune Scimitar, what are you going to do next? Well.. again, that's up to you, really. I'm just here to give you a guideline training guide for Barrows. So, where would you like to train? I'll just list some good choices for you at this level:

  • 3.1)Free Players:

You don't have many options here. You could go with the popular choice of training on Guards in various places around the world. Also, the lower leveled Flesh Crawlers in the Stronghold of Security may be a good choice, but you may find them a little too food intensive. If so, go to a lesser creature, such as the aforementioned guards, or maybe even Black Knights. You can find Black Knights at the Black Knight Fortress, inside; which requires you to start the Black Knights' Fortress quest, of all things. There are some on the outside of the castle, but their movements are often too far roaming to effectively train on them. You'll want to use the ones in the rooms of the fortress, since they can't move very far.

For Range training, your choices again are limited. You'll want to use a willow bow until 40 Ranged, at which point you can switch to a Maple one. Always use Shortbows. They hit nearly as hard and much faster than a longbow. Be sure to grab you some Dragonhide armour for defense and Range bonus.

As far as training goes, you could stick to the Minotaurs. They still drop enough iron arrows to cover the losses that you will have (arrows breaking). You could also range Dark Wizards if you'd like some Runes. The circle south of Varrock is often crowded and isn't a very reliable place to train. If you wish to risk it, you could kill them in the level 7 wild, just northeast of the Goblin Village. Be wary of PKers though. Bring a teleport if you have the required magic level for one. If not, run! Only bring as many arrows as you're willing to lose. I'd say a max of 500 per trip.

You could also try ranging Hill Giants in the Edgeville dungeon. Personally, I did this from the mid 20s all the way to my 50s in Range. Get the spot near the entrance, where the stone slab is. There are two safespots to use there, and if you're fast enough, you'll almost always be fighting. The best thing about training here is that you get Prayer experience. Bury all the bones that you get! You'll be needing prayer for Barrows.

  • 3.2)Members:

Your options are plentiful. As far as melee goes, you've got many choices at your level. Strap on your Rune Armour and whip out your trusty Rune Scimitar and start whacking through the hordes of monsters. A popular choice for many new members is to head for Rock Crabs. These nifty little monsters have a whopping 100 Hitpoints each at the low level of 13. What's this mean? You'll tear through their armour while they barely hit you. Ever. Bring just a few pieces of food and you can stay there for quite some time. There are two drawbacks, however. One is that it is often crowded in this area; and the second is that their drops are minimal. If you get tired of the Rock Crabs just north of Relleka, then you can head off to Waterbirth Island and kill them there.

Don't want to train on Rock Crabs? Want to make some money while you train? Excellent! You've got two choices that are very close by to each other. The safer choice is Thugs. Thugs can be found in level 1-3 wilderness in the Edgeville dungeon. Pass through the gates and be amazed! The Thugs are automatically aggressive no matter your level, so you can stand in one spot and reap the experience. Pick up all the Runes that they drop, as these will help you with your Magic levels. See all those herbs? Pick those up too. You'll be needing those later.

Your other choice nearby are the Chaos Druids. These little buggers are a little farther up in the wilderness of the Edgeville Dungeon, but they are essentially the same as thugs. They hit few and far between, and drop herbs; at times two at once! They also drop Nature Runes and Law Runes. You'll be needing those too. Bank all your herbs and runes, and be sure to watch out for PKers. I advise bringing only three to four items. A Rune Scimitar, Strength Amulet, Green Dragonhide Body, and (possibly) the legs to match it. That way you lose minimally if you get PKed.

Any way you train it, try setting your goals for 50/50/50 or something similar. You don't get to wield anything especially good at this level, but it's 10 levels higher than before! Good job!

Now as for Ranging, you've got some options too. You could use any of the above Free Player hints, or you could use some exclusive members only ones. Hill Giants are still good experience, but still a tad crowded. You can also train your Range against a plethora of other foes. Namely Moss Giants west of Brimhaven on the Moss Giant Island. You'll be needing 10 Agility for this though; easily obtainable in the Gnome Stronghold Agility Course. Once there, you've got the whole island to yourself, with plenty of safespots for ranging. Pick up all your arrows and the bones, bury them, and continue. Aim for 50 Ranged here.

You can also check the Ranged Guide for many more options.

Magic! You need magic. At this level it's time to start thinking about getting the teleport spells available to you if you haven't already. You can use normal damaging spells or the popular failed Curses method. Do that any way you like until you get to about 40 mage, at which point you can teleport to a few places. You might also want to look into doing Tree Gnome Village and Grand Tree quests for Glider/Spirit Tree transportation.

  • Levels obtained: 50 Attack/Strength/Defense, 50 Range, 40 Mage, 30 Agility.

What you've gotten: A better knowledge of training methods, how to get around.

4.0)Advanced Training: You can smell the Prize..

  • What you'll need: Rune Armour/Weapon, Ranging Supplies, Mage Supplies, Teleport Runes.

    Recommended levels: 50 Attack, 50 Strength, 50 Defense, 37 Magic, 50 Ranged, 30 Agility.

So now you've gotten pretty far into your Barrows preparations, right? OK, so now is a good time to start on one of the biggest requirements; 55 Slayer! Yes, you heard right. If you haven't started yet, you'll be starting now. Slayer is also a great way to get introduced to the complete world of Runescape, as you won't be assigned Minotaurs and Hill Giants for every task. At your level now, you'll want to probably use the Slayer Master in the Edgeville Dungeon, Vannaka. You could also use the Canifis Slayer master, but he is not as readily available as Vannaka is. So we'll stick with him.

Ok, so now that you can teleport around and find your bearings pretty easily, you shouldn't have that hard of a time with Slayer, should you? If you ever need any assistance on monster information, check out Axe Man Jack's Slayer Guide here on Tip.It. It has everything you need to know about every single Slayer task you can get, coming from a man with 99 Slayer.

Through leveling your Slayer, you should strive to obtain 60/60/60 in your melee stats. Certain tasks, such as Giants and Ogres, should be ranged for optimal experience. You'll want to strive for a level of 60 in Range for this point in your training.

When training melee now, you'll probably want to level up your attack to 60 first of all so you can get yourself a Dragon weapon. You'll probably want to start off with a Dragon Longsword, or you can make the jump to a Dragon Scimitar. The Longsword is available for your use upon completion of the Lost City quest. The Scimitar is available after the slightly harder and more advanced quest of Monkey Madness. Training Defense or Strength first is up to you now; it's whatever you prefer the most.

Now through all this Slayer training, your magic level may get neglected, as did mine. I regret leaving my Magic skill behind my other levels so much, but that doesn't have to be your problem. Try to mage as many tasks as is economically and timely as possible. Magic is probably going to be your most expensive skill to train for Barrows, but the most important one. You can Fire Strike/Bolt things if you'd like for optimal use of your minds/chaos, respectively. Once you make it to 55 Magic, it'll be smooth sailing. You can use the nats that you've gotten through your many Slayer tasks and initial training. If not, you can always buy some or make your own with Runecrafting, for which there is a guide here on Tip.It.

Alch your way to 60 Magic, alching whatever is the most profitable to you. You can fletch your own yew longs and spin your own flax for maximum profit, and extra experience on the side in other skills.

Prayer? Can't forget about that. Prayer is perhaps the second most important thing in Barrows. Without it, Dharok would rip through your armour and hit 50+ on you possibly. Karil and Ahrim would tear through your armour in the tunnels with their devastating attacks. Thus, you need Prayer. If you were a smart member and stockpiled on your bones, you can now use one of two super-effective Prayer training methods. Ectofunctus or a Gilded Altar. The Gilded Altar is going to be the quickest method, provided you have the material. You'll need lots of Duel Rings and preferably Glories with the ability to charge them when you need to. That means completing Heroes' Quest, which is easily done at this level. The other method is to use the Ectofunctus, which gives the highest experience yield per bone, yet is a tad slower. It's cheaper though! To do this, you'll need to have done Priest in Peril and at least started Ghosts Ahoy! quest, preferably finished to waive the entrance fee into Port Phasmastys. Read up on the Tip.It Prayer guide for more information on these two techniques. You'll want to get your Prayer level to at least 43 for now; we can raise it higher later.

  • Levels obtained: 60 Attack/Strength/Defense, 60 Range, 55 Magic, 43 Prayer, 20 Herblore, 40 Agility.

What you've gotten: Dragon weapon, alternative modes of transport, a better understanding of Slayer creatures and methods.

5.0)Final Training: Your last steps...

  • What you'll need: Dragon Weapon, Rune Armour, food, Ranging Supplies, Mage supplies.

    Recommended levels: 60 Attack, 60 Strength, 60 Defense, 60 Range, 55 Magic, 40 Agility.

Now that we've gotten all your initial training out of the way, you're going to be nearing your Barrows training's completion. Be happy! You're almost a free Barrower!

So from here on out we'll be focusing on getting your combat stats up... just.. like the rest of the guide. You're going to need at least 70/60/70 for Barrows, but it would be most effective to have 75/70/75. How are we going to do this? Slayer!

Yes, yes, I know you've been doing a lot of Slayer. By this point you don't need me to tell you how. Just keep on it until you hit 55 and you'll be done with it. It helped me to keep a log of all the tasks I got with the good drops from each one. So by the end of this hopefully you'll have at least 70 Attack, which is what we're aiming for for now. With it, you'll be able to purchase your first Whip! First, I would finish training your Strength to 70 using your preferred weapon, seeing as a Whip doesn't have a Strength training mode other than Controlled.

With your whip, you'll be able to train your Defense quickly and easily to 70, which will put you at the level to wear the famed Barrows armour. Yes! I know that I'm getting less detailed as the guide goes on, but that's because I want you to become independent from the guide and find your own training spots. I'll go ahead and say that a great spot to train is at the Basilisk though. They drop tons of herbs and stacks of gold. They also drop alchable items, which will give you some mage experience. Also, they drop nats to help you alch those items!

Which brings us to mage. *gasp* How are you going to level that? Well, we already got it to 60.. right? So you can alch something. Yew longs, steel plates, green d'hide bodies. Whichever you so desire. Although 60 is a great level for Barrowing, we'll go ahead and level it to at least 65. Mmkay? So alch/blast/strike/enchant; do whatever suits you and your financial state. Cursing is still a nice cheap way to get some experience, yet it's slow and rather tedious.

Now Range, how are we to train that? Well.. since you're done with Slayer for now, you can pick your favorite spot and start shooting! There's always the reliable Moss Giants on their little island west of Brimhaven. Never crowded whatsoever. If there does happen to be a person there, be a gent (or lady) and hop worlds. Nothing irks me more than rude people! There's also Fire Giants in the Waterfall and in Brimhaven Dungeon for you to train on. Another great monster to train on would be Bloodvelds in the Slayer Tower. They have seemingly low defense and 120 hitpoints each, and are easy to pick off. They're rather large and get caught on corners quite easily. You could also get your Slayer up 10 more levels to 65 and go Range Dust Devils and hope for that elusive Dragon Chain while you're down there; don't forget the facemask!

Prayer will be the final thing you need to level up. Since you already got it to 43, and I'm sure higher through your training and quests, you'll want to get it to at least 50 before you start Barrowing. Use the same methods as before for getting it up quickly. If you want, you can go all the way to 60, but that's not necessary at all.

  • Levels obtained: 70 Attack/Strength/Defense, 60+ Range, 60+ Magic, 50 Prayer.

What you've gotten: Barrows Armour, Whip, Ranging gear, Maging gear, food fit for Barrows.

6.0)And now it's time for.... Barrows!

  • What you'll need: Barrows Armour, Ranging Gear, Prayer Potions, Food, food, food, Maging gear, and maging supplies.

    Recommended levels: 70 Attack, 70 Strength, 70 Defense, 65 Range, 60 Magic, 55 Slayer, 38 Herblore.

Now is your time to move on in the world and start Barrowing. I will not go into methods or techniques, as that would double the length of the guide. Since you were wondering about getting the required levels for Barrows anyways, I'm sure you've read a guide or two before. I personally recommend Saruman44's Barrows guide. It's got pretty much everything you need to know in it. So have fun guys and gals! Go get a Guthan's Spear!

Um, not very good tbh.

This titel infers that you will be taching people how to barrow, and not training skills.

-

Now is your time to move on in the world and start Barrowing. I will not go into methods or techniques, as that would double the length of the guide.

-

Kinda conflicts with title. Its still not a very good guide on how to train either tbh

Tbh, I love this guide, tbh tbh.

Tbh, I would like pictures though. Tbh :?

Happily I was able to read all the words, though! (Even though I pretty much have everything needed except for magic. Teehee :anxious: )

Probably an 8.5 out of ten, incredibly detailed and well-referenced.

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

Pictures will be uploaded at some point. Currently I'm not doing combat and I'm on a tight deadline to finish some goals.

I'll put a little note at the top that says it's not to teach you how to Barrow. Happy now?

This is an amazing guide, I can see nothing that needs to be added or changed. Except maybe the first training section. 20/20/20? If you've even looked at a barrows guide, you're probably at least 40/40/40.

9.5/10, nothing's perfect.

perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another

AMEN!

That means you'll be 20/20/20 after completing that step of the training. 40/40/40 comes later, then onward until you're ready to Barrow. Unless I'm misunderstanding your question..

i think its best to change the tital to something like "Getting Requirments for Barrows" Or something like that. the titel makes people think "ohhh...how to barrow" Even though i do know, I BET most people came for the knowldge of barrowing, and not training skills.

LOL whats ur deal man, you're gettin all fussy about the title.. it suits this guide perfectly.. think about it.

"so you want to go barrowing, eh?"

the guide is all about preparing to doing barrows. and the title is a question, questioning your level of preparation to doing barrows.

Good guide, but it seems to me that it is a bit more of a combat training guide than a preparation for Barrows guide.

It would be helpful to low levels on their way up, but not many people with their stats in the 20s know what Barrows is, let alone use that as their goal for levelling.

Either way good guide, I dont personally mind the title, although I admit I probably wouldnt have clicked if the title was "Guide to achieving the stats for Barrowing"

The title must be relevant. It cannot be too general.

If I made a guide about say, GWD, calling it " The Ultimate Guide to the GWD". Then write a whole guide about collecting chicken feathers for money. Does that make sense? You do need to buy some supplies.

BTW, who bumped this lol./
