The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion Thread
Started a second charecter, and instead of going pure mage I am hybriding ranged and sword+shield. All things considered, I like the play of my new charecter a lot more. The problem with the mage, was even though I could snipe with that build as well, it was a one shot deal. One bolt of lightning and everyone in the room, or close to the room, is going to know exactly where I am. The bow is allowing me to be a lot more subtle, occasionally taking out my foes without ever being spotted (it helps when my follower doesn't herroicly charge ahead, getting in my line of fire and announcing my pressence). And unlike the mage, in all those situations where I can't drop a person before they can close in on me, I can just whip out my sword and slice them up (plus now I get to enjoy the animations, my favorite being when you grab their neck and thrust your sword up under their ribs, especially when its done from behind). I settled on a Breton this time, since I figured that I would probably have the most trouble with anything magic (and I was right), and once I get the elemental protection for my shield (in like 40 more levels <_< ), that will help even more. I really hate anything that uses frost even more now too. Frost is a kill joy. I am trying to decide if I want to get smithing up, and go for the perks, or just pray that I find some awesome armour. I've descided on deadric armour if possible, which I suspect I have to make, so I might as well train it up. At least its a warrior skill, so the warriror stone has my back (in lieu of using a once a day stone, I carry a variety of scrolls with me to help with whatever situation I find myself in, which reminds me I'd really like to find another storm atronach because the last one totally kicked everyone's ass six ways from Sunday before I could do anything).

Stacking Invisible and Visible boosts?
An invisible boost, say to fishing from an Ibis, doesn't allow you to catch better fish at all. All the boost does is allow you to fish at the rate you would have if your base level was higher by that amount. For the purposes of speed, it might stack though. I think the ibis boosts by 3, and a fishing potion is the same, so using both might allow you to fish as if your 6 levels higher, but I don't know if it would work that way. It would depend on if the invisible boost is adding 3 to the base level strait, or if its setting the base level to current level + 3. The only exception I can think of is the crystal saw, which has an invisible boost that is applied to your current level, and not your base level. In this case, it can be stacked with various construction teas, and with spicy stew. So yes, it can go both ways if you have an invisible boost that acts on the current level, but I believe that all the invisible boosts from summoning familiars work on the base level instead. At least the fishing ones do.

Phishing e-mail?
The easiest way to tell that this one is fake is by the title. Jagex simply don't use email for the purpose of informing you about things like offences. There is an excellent thread in the account security section of the RSOF, /g=runescape/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?275,276,0,63279193]here. That walks you through finding the real sender for the major email providers. It also goes through common scam topics, how they get your email, and there is a post on the loyalty post ones as well (which are a bit harder since Jagex does email you about that). The list of common scams is worth pulling out though for everyone to see.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Every thread is my today thread :P I just figure the people with computer troubles would appreciate it. I did forget to add a grievance of my own like I normally do, so here goes: I can't stand other people using my computer. I don't even like people using my computer with me watching full time. People using a computer that doesn't belong to them, that they don't have to use everyday, seems to flip a switch in their head that forces them to do every stupid thing they can possibly think of. I look away for a minute and I'm going to find 8 new tool bars, a GB of maleware and 3 boot sector viruses.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
Wow, so apparently my parents are actually somewhat computerliterate. I mean, it makes sense that they at least understand how they work, since when they wen't through Uni they would have been writting their own programs, because that was the only way computers would do anything (we're talking punch cards followed by BASIC here). I'm even able to teach my mom some computer shortcuts, as long as I do it one at a time and she gets to use it a few times to remember it. I still handle the bulk of the fixing, but they do grasp the basics, and they do read what the computer is telling them. I'm afraid to help other people I know in real life with their computers out of fear I will be labelled as The Friend Who is Good With Computers (totally worth a read btw). The other thing is I can't fix a computer without time, and being alone, since my method involves a lot of google, guessing, and waiting around because I am a huge fan of system restore. To make you all feel better, take these 3 quotes. All in response to the first one.

Hotfix: Toy Horsey Phrases
Not a one off incident, not even close. The police have shown up at the doors of many runescape players for suicide threats, threats of violence, and for suggesting they are being abused. I like Sojournitis' idea about only seeing the colour once you pick it. That saves Jagex from messing with the rarity of the colours, which would have some impact on a small segement of the market, and it prevents them from being used in gambling. Flowers are really the last thing left that I can think of where you can probably arrange odds that are only slightly in the hosts favour. Other options are looking at 66% favour and higher, which I think are less attractive to prospective gamblers, though the increased payout could get people over that.

I hate the cold hands, and my hands totally suck at staying warm even when its not subzero. They get 'cold as ice' at maybe 12C, and like to turn blue and purple when it rains if there is even a slight wind. For me, I have to keep my hands warm from the start, because there is no way they will warm on their own until I get back inside. Cold ears suck too, mostly because that just strait up stings, but a hat solves that pretty easy. The other one I get is sometimes when I go skiing, there will be a little gap at the back of my neck, and I get turbo-uber brain freeze

Hotfix: Toy Horsey Phrases
For the flower game, they could actually have some fun. Wait for people to work out the odds and a standard game, and then silently change the odds on them so that the host is at a disadvantage. Rather than take away the toys, keep the hosts guessing so that they never know when the game is going to screw them over.

Dark Knight Rising
I'll see it because I saw the first two. I feel like the only person who didn't really like the dark knight though. I don't know what it is, I mostly enjoyed watching it the first time, but I doubt I will ever watch it again. I think I have issues with the 'main character not being trusted' plot twist. It drove me nuts in 24, which was an epic show otherwise, and I didn't like it in Dark Knight either. Same problem with all but the first spiderman I think (I can't keep the second and third entirely seperate).

Hotfix: Toy Horsey Phrases
I wish they would just make it an offence already. Anyway, now it will be the flower game.

Pures
I wouldn't say its limited to pures, but more of a stereotype for pk'ers in general. Perfectly reasonable people turn insufferable when they go from their main to their pk'ing account. It seems to be the mentality of everyone engaged in online multiplayer combat.

Cars
My problem with hybrids is most the total lack of noise. I can't stand the quietness of the engine. I also can't say I'm a huge fan of hybrids creeping around in parking lots when I'm on foot, because its really hard to hear where they are. Sort of like how cars would be even more efficient if they all had CV transmissions, but CVT's creep most people out to the point where they wont drive them (their more efficient because they can create the optimal gear ratio, not just pick the closest to best). I really like the Mini, especially now that they are entirely BMW made (no more [bleep]ing Chrysler engine). My parents got a new one after a deer jumped into the last one and wrote it off (repairs were worth more than the car). Same size engine, but considerably more power now. I just dare you to watch the Italian job (remake) and then drive one in a totally reasonable manner (all you want to do is weave through traffic). Not super fast or powerful, but nearly unbeatable fun driving through corners at speed (and their so cute when they lift up a tire!). It's like driving an oversized go cart. Once my parents ditch the SUV, I think its going to be replaced with a Mini Clubman, and they'll modify it so it can tow a trailer. As for me, I could go for (someday) either a mini roadster, or a nissan 370z. Probably the 370 because I would like to learn how to drift before I die, and its one of those cars that can do it without any sever risk of flipping over in the process (good weight distribution for the purpose of drifting).

Beliefs, Religion and Faith.
The God I believe in doesn't care which religion you picked, or whether you believe in it or not. This is part of the reason why I am both Christain and 100% against trying to convert people. My personal faith doesn't require that other people believe what I do, so I am free to let them be. I think the assumption is that God's morals are probably not our own, especially since we are supposed to be its children. If God created us, then God accepted our flaws, so there is nothing we could do that would be wrong. This might be a good time to point out that I believe in Evolution, though I am not opposed to the idea that Evolution could possibly be guided, at least to some extent. Prayer gives me comfort. Simple as that. I don't believe that God created the universe. I just assume that both the universe and God exist. Stargate deals with this issue a lot, once you realise that the ascended ancients and Ori are for all intents and purposes, divine beings (in terms of power at least). They do not present themselves because they do not wish to interfere in the development of life. I assume that God doesn't make itself observable for the same reason. So that we are free to live our life, because if we had an observable deity, it is inevitable that our lives would revolve around that deity. In other words, to prevent us from suffocating in religion. Why do natural remissions and miracles need to be different. I would consider that a natural remission of something terrible is a miracle in its own right, and even if that remission wasn't caused by divine intervention, that doesn't make it anything less.

70-80 Stats
I can tell you what I did, which might give you some ideas. Note that I do what I like though, and not always what is the cheapest or most efficient. Mining: I've never been into power mining. I think most of my mining levels from the low 60's through the mid 70's were from the shooting stars D&D, and that took quite a while. When the lava flow mines came out, I went there and got my mining to whatever it is now (I think 81) starting at 75 or 77 is memory serves. Not the best mining xp you can get, but I just wanted the mining armour, and the ability to trim to pickaxe. If you want fast xp, I hear power mining granite is pretty fast, though I can't say I have ever bothered with it myself. Smithing: I probably did most of this at the dwarven smithing place in Falador. I'm not sure where it stands on the cost/xp ratio, but the xp is pretty good if your good at ceremonial sword crafting. Making canons isn't too terrible either, but you can do better at your level. Before that I used to make mithril platebodies at the blast furnace (because it got through the smithing part faster) and just high alched them so I didn't have to bank. Not to shabby either on the xp front I found, but it was definatly the mini game like place in Falador that allowed me to finish it. Mostly because it got past the smelting (which I hate), and strait to the smithing. Farming: Still a work in progress for me (71 atm). Once I stop being lazy about it, planning on doing a run of maples per day. I think it worked out to just under 2 months. Theiveing: I am a huge fan of the sorceress garden. After a hundred runs or so, you get pretty good too (I can get past every sentinal in the summer garden at two different points in their route to minimize downtime), especially if you take some time to experiment and see just what you can do without getting caught. I hear pyrimid plunder is better xp, but I've never enjoyed that. I finished off the journey to 80 right after the bot nuke when the garden was empty of bots that can distract you, or cause you some latency (I find people in an area reduces your frame rate, and can make the game ever so slightly slower to respond if your computer is under to much strain) Agility: I started at ape atoll around level 71, drinking agility potions to get me to the no fail level (which is 73 or 74). I find you can let it drop at least one level without failing too much. You could also use summer pie for a larger boost so that you don't need to boost up as often. I also made good use of the Barbarian Assault horn, to double my xp rate, though in all honestly I really hate that game and I can't always tell if the frustration of charging is worth the time saved on the course.

Today...
I've been calling mcneilp miniclip because that was easier than trying to figure out your name. And roccodog, I've been saying row-co-dog in my head. My name shouldn't be to hard. It's either ran-dox or rand-ox, and frankly, they both sound almost exactly the same, though I use the first one myself. I ate a chicken today, starting at breakfast (because why not).

The Firemaker's Curse - 11 - Jan
Great, now this quest will be forever overshadowed (in my mind) by Jagex ruining the flash factory. I'm also getting to kick myself in the butt because I haven't been taking advantage of it like I could have, under the assumption it would still be there when I got back. Now I get to choose between sub par xp, pulling my hair out at BA, or extra boredom doing agility without the horn on a course. Blah.

Things that annoy the HELL out of you.
I feel like you should be able to say something like "if your going to keep telling me about it, at least invite me to join you!" That might even be enough to get him to shut up.

Today...
So I was super tired yesterday, and I took what was probably a 6 hour nap (also known as falling asleep at super time), waking up at midnight with too much energy to go back to sleep. So I figured that rather than gamble on whether the maximum dose of melatonin would be enough to put me back to sleep, I decided to use the time to read a book. That passed a nice 6 hours till morning, but I keep forgetting how much energy reading consumes. Now its still morning, and I feel as if I have been thinking all day. My body is doing great (holding up a book isn't exactly taxing my stamina), but my mind is beat. Going to be a fun day I'm sure.
