Mechwarrior Online
I've never successfully played a mech warror game, and I still think my frined must be an alien or cyborg for being able to use that control scheme, but I did enjoy mech assult for the xbox, minus the part where you couldn't customize your mech and the manual was riddled with errors/written before the game was done.

Today...
Nice vid, but not really my style. I prefer not to be heard at all, to scout out every enemy before the first bullet flies and execute a masterful attack. I'm also not sure how he managed to do that without any of the bodies being spotted, since they are supposed to sound the alarm if that happens. Had a lazy day today. Nice to have one every now and then.

What Game(s) Did You Last Get and What Are You Playing?
Picked up a new game, couldn't resist. Silent Hunter 4, since this is the one I have seen, and by all accounts the 5th one sucks (also, it only gives you one sub, where 4 allows you to upgrade over time). Another pick up from watching lets plays, though I made it through the entirety of One F Jef's lets play on it (12 missons, maybe 18-22 hours long?). I don't think I'll be replicating his playstyle, which is the most ludicrous combination of luck, skill, and aggression I have ever seen (of course attacking a convoy with only 5 torpedoes left while on your way home is a good idea!). Still, seeing someone who is good at the game, and tactics in general, makes this kind of game a lot easier to approach, since I frankly wouldn't have a fart of a clue how to take on convoys or task forces without seeing it done, sort of like how I suck at flight simulators in no small part because I don't want to read a novel worth of guides. Not really done anything yet, but I have a sub out on the seas, and hopefully I'll find a nice easy target to get started on while I work out how to control my ship (the problem with lets plays is you can't see the keyboard being used). It's also given me some ease with going in with harder settings, like manual targeting, rather than just pointing at an enemy and having a perfect solution magically enter itself into my targeting computer. The hardest part will probably be convoys, since I won't be able to range with sonar (which Jef never does, probably never noticed you could >.>). Nothing like having a scope up near ships that can blow you out of the water while you flip through a book trying to figure out what your shooting at (need the ship height to range it with a scope). EDIT: Having played for a bit, it's a pretty cool game though I accidently made it a little easier than I intended. I think I can fix that next time I'm back in port though so I guess makes for a nice warm up. Definately keeping the external free flying camera. I'll not use it to give me an advantage, but for cases where it really doesn't matter (like shooting down a boat that is 1000 yards off the bow) it's really cool to get another view. Was also following some torpedoes because I already attacked a harbour. Sub chasers have really shallow draft. Fired one clean under it, and the follow up only just got it at minimum depth (which is a little more than 7ft I think >.>). On the plus side, a lower keel hit on a small boat is a one hit kill. That was quite spectacular. I also now have an appreciation for just how slowly submariens go under water, even crash diving. Got spotted by a plane and when for an evasive action that auto crash dives and throws in a turn (I think it's a crash dive, it did put the hammer down to help make me a harder target and dive faster at least). Got bombed, and I think he missed (as in missed a direct hit) by about 50 ft. Totally interupted my sprint to catch a merchant ship. Without thinking I resurfaced (for the speed, can only manage half speed under water and it kills the battery) under 2nm away (which for a ship that doesn't know I'm there, is close enough to torpedo) so I ended up charging it with the deck gun. That thing sucks. I think it absorbed about 30-40 4 inch shells from both AP and HE before it finally went boom. I accidently closed in too far to keep hitting the water line so I just blasted it open and started filling it with explosives, then sent the camera out to watch it sink which was quite awesome.

Stompin' Tom Connors dies at 77
Can't say I have any stories or anything, but at least one of his songs is going to be remembered for a long time I think (every hockey match ever in this country). A little sad to see this though.

I haven't played far cry 3 in a while. Maybe my growing battle prowess started to suck the fun out of being sneaky, or maybe it's just the heavies sucking all the fun out of trying to kill things. They just take sooooo much damage (like a couple grenades), so until I can get the skill to headshot them, it's not possible to take a fort containing them undetected. That said, seeding a base with C4 and land mines if you in a patient mood (mostly to deal with reinforcements) is quite fun. Not sure what happens if the god guys arrive before the land mines go boom though, since I've only done it a couple times and I always got spotted (heavy problems). I also left them in the road once on purpose to act as a distraction. That was pretty funny. I'm also an avid vehicle hunter. Got my start after failing miserably to kill all the deer I needed, and came back with an unarmed jeep to hunt 'canyonero style'. For sharks I took the big big boat and it's .50 cal to a small island coast to shoot the sharks with before skinning, since that both conserves ammo and works a lot faster than using a gun proportional to the situation. Armed jeeps are also great for dealing with the more dangerous wildlife. That's how I killed all my bears.

4th March - The World Wakes
I feel like, looking back on the quest, I never really got fully into the tactics. On the one hand, I have some abliity to pick (and use) abilities that are appropriate to the task at hand, but at maxed melee (and 86 mage, 80 range) I still had to resort to using defensive abilities to bring my survivability up far enough to beat all my problems over the head until they yield. Then again, I suppose the point of the whole system is that not every approach is viable, and since I decided to forget about the combat triangle for the entirety of the quest, being hard to kill was probably my best bet. The best fight was the one where I had no food left and about a thousand health. I sometimes feel like I take less damage when low on health, since I survived a lot longer than I was expecting to without food.

There is some room to teach yourself initiative. It's largely an observational skill that requires you to be able to look around you (metaphorically) and see what needs doing, and then take care of the things that you have the required skills for. Without initiative you become someone who only does anything when asked. With too much initiative you'll do things your not qualified or not supposed to do, and generally start to get in peoples way. So I supose the second part of the skill is being able to look at a self assigned task and determine if it's something you should be doing or not. As for designing a coal boiler, I would think there is a lot of research on them available to at least bring you up the point where your asking intelligent questions. I'd probably start off with steam engines myself, since many of them use(d) coal burning boilers. I'm not sure what your making yours for, but the steam engines should at least have some information on things like material strength, efficiency, and what did and didn't work.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Discussion Thread
If your running the unnoficial heathfire patch (and you really should be running unofficial patches for any dlc you have, and the main game as well) then no, I have no idea. If your not, try the patch and see if it helps. You might also try reverting to a save prior to building, maybe doing a quest (or even fast traveling a couple times to other cities) and then trying to build again. You might need to do this even if you did install the patch, as it may need you to start over again to work. Not sure the patch would help though. I know at least one of the wikies seems to mention it in the bugs section when a problem is solved by one of the unofficial patches (though maybe try looking the bug up in the other wiki). I got dragon born, but I've realized I don't really want to do that yet. I think I might change my stance on Ebony being my favourite armour, and go Daedric. Really, I just want to look more intimidating, though I think Ebony will still be the armour of choice when I am doing assassin or thief work. I also feel like, if I am going to be going toe to toe with another dragonborn (I assume this happens), I should probably pick up that spell breaker shield. On previous characters I've used it mostly to defend against dragon fire, but wards can also block shouts, which has made that shield of particular use against dragon priests. I don't have the manna to sustain my own ward, and not getting blasted off my feet would be pretty awesome (or worse, having my weapons knocked out of my hands). My list right now looks like I'll be getting spell breaker, and maybe kill some dragon pirests. I also need some daedra hearts and a butt load of ebony to make myself more armour. And another armour manikan if I have room for more. I also want the reusable soul gem thing, ideally the black one. I'm also looking to see if I can remove the penalty for being in the sun as a vampire (or more specifically, the stupid glowing effect) because I do still want to be going into this immortal, but I don't want to play the game entirely at night, especially not with the Climates of Tamriel mod running. Just too dark. Also, I finally took a look at my mods...and changed almost nothing  I did try my hand at INI tweaking, using this site, because it should (if you do it correctly) produce ini files that wont blow up your client. I think I need to modify the thread configuration though to leave one core for the OS and everything else that isn't the game, because it's stated stuttering when you first enter open areas, and I think during dragon combat. I thought about using ENB as well, but all the good information is interspersed with pictures rendered on rigs running graphics cards with several times the power of my own, which makes me sad. I'll also have to compare to the configurations I was using, since it's possible my graphics card is just being pushed beyond it's limits as well as is. It's a decent card, but I already had it running near it's limits. One note, if you edit your ini files manually I think just opening options up in game will reset them to be inline with your in game settings, so keep backups of both your original ini files and the modified sets. I cut out a couple mods, such as lush trees (which frankly might be going right back in) and a 'turn this village into the rainforrest' mod which wasn't even being used. I also added a mod to double game saturation (there is another one that double contrast, but you can't use both at once, and I decided I like saturation more). To my dismay, there is no Warburg map for the new dlc. Fortunately, the game doesn't really care and gives me the normal map, though I still have a modified ini that prohibits things such as rotating or tilting. Still, it's serviceable I think. I do miss being able to see all the roads though.

Better than getting stuck in traffic for 3 hours on the way there :P I hear that though, I hate getting stuck in traffic, doubly so if I'm running low on gas. Or driving that car I had for a summer which would visibly get hotter when not in motion (the radiator fan didn't run as fast when the engine was at idle).

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
Sound advice on the not moving in right away, though I might be biased since the last time I did that it nearly started a war (with a 'sort of' friend, not a lover). Side note. I was still here when this thread got made because there was a new relationship thread like every other day.

if you could have any three fictional characters accompany you in RuneScape...
Is it bad that the first 3 that came to mind are Samus Aran, Master Chief, and your character from Mass Effect? Me and my suits of amrour... No, let's see if I can think up some that would be more fitting, and highly useful. My next thought was Lirael, an Abhorsen, though I think I would rather have an actual necromancer than an anti-necromancer. My first companion would be Tyrael as the arch angel of Justice. Good guy, and the sort of being you want on your side in a fight. Not much of a mage though, he's really toe to toe (however his 'wings' mean he has like 20 extra arms to grab and beat you with). Second would be Belgarion of the Belgariad and Malloreon Series'. Aside from being another upstanding guy, he is an unreasonably powerful sorcerer, and if he has the orb of Alder with him, it can magnify his powers significantly. He is also a God Slayer, which is cool. For my third, I will again pick from the Belgariad and Malloreon, taking Silk, who is among other things a highly talented spy, theif, and merchant, which are all very useful skills, rounding out my party of powerful combatents.

Which god would you most like to kill?
Bandos, though it was a close call between him and Zamorak. While I am naturally opposed to chaos, Zamorak is not entirely evil, at least not to me. Anarchy is not inherently evil, it is what people do without law and order that is. Bandos on the other hand is the God of War, which I do take to be both evil and chaotic. A world always at war leaves no victor. Bandos would never be satisfied with victory, there must always be conflict, and that is why he would die first given the choice. Saradomin is interesting for me. I would peg him as lawful netral, or order at any cost. I have a bit too much bias for good to go along with that. There are limits, there is room for some chaos if it brings good to the world. Zaros I'm not sure. Apparently now the God of control, or so says the homepage, I think that could be an issue. If one of the Gods had to rule though, I think there is potential for order here, and I think a bit more upfront about what we are all about where Saradomin hides behind his words. Armadyl is truly a mystery to me. If he is like his general, violence only when neccessary, that I might have found one I would actually back.

4th March - The World Wakes
Well, that was a fun quest even if I died a few times. Twice before I learned how to watch my health again (I've not engaged in combat in more than a month, and it's been a few since I fought anything that stood a chance of killing me). Turns out I love the defensive powers, though they take up a lot of room from abilities that do real damage (though in fairness, defense has a few damage dealers in the threshold range which are in their prime against crowds). [hide] Also went back to my roots, and choose Guthix, though I think me and Azzandra both had some pain with that choice. I really like Azzandra, don't care so much for Sliske. I also disagree with the idea Guthix was handing power off to Zaros. Now that we understand Guthix's motivations, and with Jagex hinting that Zaros embodies control, that would make Zaros the direct opposition to Guthix. The only way I can see that working is that Zaros was at least at one time also a disproportionately powerful God, and he alone of the current known Gods would seem to have the potential power to actually end the God wars. Sliske might also end up being oddly strong, seeing as he took down a God who was seemingly significantly stronger than everyone else put together. I really don't like Saradomin. I think he means well, but I think he has also lost his way, or simply doesn't have the regard for mortal life that he should. [/hide]

Minecraft General
So if it gets hit by lightning, does the rain put it out like a tree or does it burn to the ground? The latter is funnier, but I suspect the former since my own wooden village never burned to the ground despite being located on an island that get's hit with multiple lightning strikes every other day. The new world for it doesn't get the storms though, which I sort of miss.

4th March - The World Wakes
There have also been cases of quest lines getting tied together. Didn't they do one last year where they made a new line that tied two others together into one, or am I just being crazy? Looks good. Will be a nice way to celebrate the end of todays midterm  90 prayer is a bit of a pain in the butt for me though. The rewards will be handy though, I have some plans for a few of them.

Sounds like my parent's Chocolate bomb cake. White chocolate over dark chocolate and covered in chocolate sauce. The only thing I can think of off hand with more chocolate are those 4.5kg toblerone bars (which are about the size of a baseball bat). Someone buy me a 4.5kg toblerone bar

Behind the Scenes: March 2013
I like the look of this month. Don't really care about the warbands, but I tend to really enjoy the easter events, and it's nice to see them still cleaning up the EoC system. It also looks like they are continuing to gear up for the graphical rework, and I can't wait to see that.

Oddly enough, Florida really doesn't have a Southern Accent, not like the other states around it. The state is relatively young, as being a large field of swamps it took longer to be developed and settled. You can still catch a bit of it, but I've never found it particularly stands out in casual conversation. Be glad your friend wasn't in Louisiana or Mississippi. If I am remembering my accents correctly, those are probably two of the strongest in the South. Alternatively, the East Coast has a couple really distinct accents, such as Brooklyn or Canada's Newfoundland & Labrador and Cape Breton accents. Not sure about the old Soviet rides. I like my rides intense, but I don't particularly care for rides that seem like they might fall apart. I'm also not the keenest on rides that seem likely to inflict physical injury. I still duck a bit on Disney's space mountain. It looked like it might decapitate me when I was 4, and it's hasn't gotten better as I've gotten taller (it's in pitch black, but the ride is very compact and in that dark, the beams over your head seem way too close. Apparently it's downright pants soiling terrifying when they have the lights on). I'm more in it for the loops, corkscrews, and the longest vertical drops I can find (I will not bunjee jump though).

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
University is a great place to start over, but don't rule out high school entirely. If nothing else, it's valuable practice if you can get an opportunity. University can move quite quickly, by which I mean the window of opportunity to meet the most people is the first week or two, or frosh week (definitely worth participating in). The first week or two though gives you the most freedom to sit down and talk to strangers at meal hall, talk to people in your class, and everyone can get an invitation to just about everything (residence parties and the like). Good time to build up a social network that you can work with to meet even more people down the line.

Adult Jenga was a lot more interesting for the few seconds I was able to imagine it as some sort of game where you stack humans into a big pile (using people as jenga pieces). Oh well. I could see it as a way to get adults to play truth or dare though maybe? It's been a long time since I played that. Anyway, I am obviously back from my Vacation in Walt Disney World, and it was quite a bit of fun, as always. We got a better time this year apparently, the parks were a lot less crowded than last year for most of the trip (also, never bother scheduling a Saturday in the parks or Downtown because it is totally insane). Got really cold on the last day (55), which makes leaving a lot easier. My only issue now is that the next time I go back there, I want to be going with someone. That was going to be a problem in my last relationship actually; he wasn't a big roller coaster fan where I am totally unable to say no to any roller coaster. If it's not going to fall apart or break something (as in, my bones), I'll ride it. I'll even laugh because I'm a laugher, not a screamer. The one thing I will say in favor of going off on your own a bit is that you can meet a lot of people. In lines mostly, but also at the pool and even at restaurants if your really lucky. There was however a fairly large shortage of early 20 somethings there. I like the girls from Louisiana who asked me where I'm from, and then respond with "oh, that's why you sound like that". I don't normally think of myself as having a strong accent (though if your used to one of the Southern ones, or New York, I could see it standing out quite a bit), and I haven't met a lot of people who can actually tell my accent isn't American. For extra laughs, their accent was so weak they could have been from a northern state. The only real downside to the whole trip is that Orlando doesn't have a Canadian Customs section, so you have to go through the TSA, and they wanted me to go through the body scanner instead of the metel detector which I declined, which means you get a body search instead. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be, possibly because they've gotten sooooooo many complaints about their conduct. No gropping, and we managed to not lose our heads because I forgot to take the watch off (I can't believe I did that). The agents were actually quite pleasant. Not going back through Montreal also made the trip a lot more pleasant The Montreal customs agents are seemingly all extremely unpleasant people. I don't know if they just hate people who aren't from Quebec, or if they just hate everyone. By contrast, clearing customs in the Maritimes is a downright pleasant experience. The epitome of Maritime hospitality, it's like a huge welcome home. The Americans Customs there are also quite a pleasant bunch, presumably because the local culture rubs off on them

"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice
See, this is why we don't get new people in OT  It was...intimidating joining this place back in '06 (didn't help that I would slap me if my 16 year old self showed up here; I was totally insuferable. Commence searching my post history!), and it can be intimidating now. Something about smaller groups and their inside humor and social conventions. And do try to keep the posts to a bit more substance than just a picture where possible (just because this looks like it could continue). @RPG, the distance really can be a killer. I've run across a couple guys in my time in the clan world I wouldn't have minded living a bit closer too. Not even as boyfriend material, but as people I might actually like to meet. For the best though, I don't think I would ever let myself actually meet someone that way, and it would be a huge tease.

Have you got a trick you can do ?
I can do the humming and whistling thing. I also talk while breathing in if I want to do a creepy deep voice, or just weird people out. Oh, and I can do the Vulcan sign with both hands
