Tip.It Times - 14th November 2010 (Writing Contest Winners)
Well, depends how you spell it I guess... I'm not sure how you would put accountability into a company like Jagex, moreover, I dislike the way you try and speak for all of us. I pay them a price for the game, but beyond that, I'm not sure I should have any say in what Jagex do. When I go into a clothes store in town, I don't sit there and demand they put in a certain line or brand. If I don't like what they got, I move onto the next store. That's business, and last I checked, Jagex are a company, not a political party or a public council. Whatever poll Jagex puts on the RuneScape website, the users can give whatever answers they like. Jagex aren't obliged to do whatever their players tell them to.

runescrafting pouches, help?
Just to confirm this, I got a large pouch whilst being below Lv50 RC. By the way, Devious Minds Runecrafting level cannot be boosted for.

Would bringing back free trade be viable today?
Oh, so putting it in the wilderness and calling it 'potentially' dangerous isn't clue enough? Or what about the fact that you get skulled(marking you a pk-er) and lose all prayer points when you enter the abyss? Jagex clearly meant for abyss pking to exist, fact.(also, revs are a cheap alternative to real pking, however much jagex wants them to be frightening) Revs have to fit within the limits of what is possible for an NPC in a Java game. Of course Revs aren't going to camp near the Zamorak Mage, unless they're programmed to. That would be the biggest hint of what Jagex really wanted when they released the abyss miniquest - how Revs are designed to behave now. Although they certainly patrol the area, they don't focus their efforts on RCers alone. Some PKers made it their mission to just be a nuisance in whatever way possible to RCers. I don't think you're right to call it "sissy-scape" or imply the game is 'easy', but I think you raise a good point. 'Skills' in RuneScape aren't actually a measure of ability - they're a measure of how much time/money has been spent training/invested into doing the same activity over and over again. There's very few aspects of the game where real technical ability is required to perform well in RuneScape. Even 99 Runecrafting doesn't really necessitate skill; I could train a moron to do a ZMI run over and over again and, given time, they'd master it quite easily. Yet 99 RCing is regarded as one of the hardest things you can do in RuneScape. It doesn't make sense. It's a seperate debate to free trade and PKing, but Jagex need to release content that requires the player to develop and use their own personal abilities. You can see they attempted to do this with Dungeoneering but even then, if you get ahold of the best 2h for your level, you're halfway there.

Would bringing back free trade be viable today?
The update for the abyss is as follows: It doesn't specify what the danger actually is (losing items from being skulled, abyss monsters, or PKers), but it certainly doesn't say "This update gives the PKers who can't hack it against other PKers the chance to (rarely) gain a amulet of glory from a passing Runecrafter who just so happens to conveniently fit within the combat level +/- margin between Edgeville and the Zamorak mage". It's got nothing to do with making it "sissy-scape", especially since Revs replaced PKers anyway. It's just there was literally no point to RCers being PKed, for either side, except some 12-year old wanting to 'kill' somebody who was completely unable to defend themselves.

Dungeoneering, Fast dg, and anger
Sometimes you find things which aren't actually against the rules but are against the spirit of the game. Joining a dungeon and then not providing any positive contribution towards the team is hardly rule breaking, but it is frustrating and not what Dungeoneering was made for. In such cases, banning wouldn't be fair. It's up to Jagex to create a system that no longer rewards leeching, and players to make their own perm teams so leeching cannot affect them.

Would bringing back free trade be viable today?
My concern for bringing free trade back into the game is that certain people would make it their 'niche' in the RS economy to buy out all the resources (logs, uncooked fish, ores etc) and use that monopoly to charge whatever the heck they want again, foregoing the Grand Exchange in the process of making a few extra % over the max GE price. The Grand Exchange may have its problems, but if you imagine the GE as some sort of vast depository of resources for which people have to pay to withdraw from it, the GE fundamentally cannot work without people selling to it, and if free trade would only provide a way of skipping around it via player-traders, I'd rather not lose the GE. As far as I'm concerned, the GE is the best update that's ever happened and it was desperately needed at the time of its release when player numbers were at their highest and the RS economy was bulging. The issue of botting is seperate from the issue of the Grand Exchange. Great care should be taken not to confuse the two as the same issue of 'Free Trade'. As stone says, the reasons for people botting now are generally different to the reasons people botted then; now it's laziness, not a way of providing real life cash.

If we say one herb run takes 90 minutes at least, most likely even longer due to diseased herbs and stuff. That fits pretty much exactly into two abyssal lurker pouches so that's a convenient timing anyway. 24 astral teleport tablets would therefore last 24 x 90 minutes = ~36 hours. You're asking us for our advice, yet you can't be bothered doing a twenty minute mini-game that needs performing once every thirty-six hours? But you can be bothered doing a ten minute herb run every hour-and-a-half all in the name of 'multitasking'? You clearly haven't thought this through at all...

If herb farming, you can quickly switch from lunars to normal magic spellbook by using astral teletabs gained from the Great Orb Project. A perfect 1,000 point game of twenty minutes will provide twenty-four tablets, and only one needs to be used per herb run (you can just walk from Moonclan bank to the Astral altar). If using Spellbook swap, you only need to use normal magic once anyway (teleport to Trollheim). Port Phasmatys - ectophail; Falador - Explorer's ring 3; Trollheim - Spellbook swap; Catherby - Catherby teleport; Ardougne - Skills necklace to fishing guild/Fishing guild teleport. Alternatively, a chipped house teletab probides a quick teleport to Rellekka, and then onwards to Moonclan via the boat. If you're lacking a Seal, you can lie so long as you don't talk to anyone on the island except the banker from Dream Mentor.

Jagex's new bot punishment: Level resetting
Nah, the issue is that they must have been sufficiently bored enough in the first place to start playing RuneScape. Therefore any claim that their lives are any more eventful than ours are just silly and blatantly ironic. The fact is, they're lazy and would rather be playing CoD. If they want to compete and not train skills, there's always the Burthorpe Games room. I've had a good few games of draughts there, don't knock it. And not a PKer in sight. \:D/

"Life is too short to worry about highscores"
To be fair, the video isn't all bad. Now so many houses have games consoles, it's almost become socially acceptable to be a 'gamer', and if someone's interest in games gets them physically going out and meeting new people then that surely can only improve their social and mental wellbeing, not detract from it. The point reminds me of 'We Are Rockstars' by Does It Offend You Yeah?. They're talking about how social networking has ironically made us more and more isolated from each other, I think people need to be mindful that when they play RS they're basically not doing the same thing in isolating themselves from the bigger picture.

"Life is too short to worry about highscores"
Addiction isn't simply a case of, "He spends y hours doing activity x, he's addicted". People may have good reasons to do all of those things without necessarily losing the ability to stop doing them; working out to maintain fitness as a professional athlete; practicing chess for an upcoming tournament; writing for the sake of creativity is hardly a rationale for addiction either. Although with the gym case there are people undoubtedly there for the wrong reasons (eating disorders, body dysmorphia etc.). What defines a behavioral addiction is a preoccupation with the activity in question - skipping school/sleep in order to play, for example. The only behavioral addiction that currently receives special status in the DSM is gambling, and that's simply due to how powerfully addicting gambling is (VR reinforcement). Video gaming doesn't receive the same treatment, and shouldn't.

"Life is too short to worry about highscores"
"I'm not addicted" Suppose I was addicted, how would I know any better? Isn't that the whole point of addiction? It just makes me laugh how fast some people on here have distanced themselves from this guy's experience, and instantly denied that playing RuneScape for hours on end is even a little bit unhealthy when, frankly, if they were suffering from an addiction, they wouldn't have any rational basis to claim they aren't. I'm not claiming that people on here are addicted, just that it's irrational to claim this person's experience is something no-one else could ever go through.

celestial surgebox
70 RCing realistically is the only requirement, bloods are easily obtained. Yes, the box only occupies the ammo slot. Previously used the item slot as well but this was reduced to only the ammo slot. It is possible to charge after binding. A box with, for example, 40 charges at the start of a dungeon can be topped up to over 125 charges, and the next dungeon will start with 125 charges. Any charges above 125 will be reduced to 125 (as it is with arrow binds). If a box starts with 125 and uses some of its charges, and can refilled mid-dungeon.

Is Runescape (free worlds) really that popular as it appears?
What? Objectivity by definition is not an opinion - it's reality. It either is or it isn't.

Jagex's new bot punishment: Level resetting
People have used cheats and bots for ages. RuneScape certainly isn't the first game to have ever been "cheated" by those who can't be bothered putting in the hard hours. Difference is before online gaming really came about over the past decade, any 'hacks' were kept to local networks, and most competitions involving hacks were unofficial. The cheats largely kept to those local networks, separating them from those who gamed legitimately. The problem here is that there's no "local network" for such players in RuneScape. His motive for botting was to get 99 Magic - who doesn't want that? If there was a limited sandbox version of RuneScape where you could just 'give' yourself 99 Magic, then legitimate players in the "real" RuneScape wouldn't be disadvantaged. You sometimes get the impression with Jagex, is that they have their ideal world and won't compromise in trying to make it. They need to realise that no amount of Draconian measures will make players like ForSandG conform to their exacting standards and spend hundreds of hours chasing what they want. Unless they've found the secret to mind control, it is delusional to expect that tactic to work.

Beginner Dung question
34 views... no replies. http://forum.tip.it/...oneering-guide/ ^ That's a comprehensive guide to Dungeoneering, but the problem with guides like this, no matter how well written they are, is that they attempt to provide very general advice to a very specific person. It's not like Woodcutting where you can simply say, "Choking Ivy provides y exp/hr, you need an axe, go to Taverley, 99 will take x hrs". People have different styles, different preferences. It's probably better to ask specific questions. What exactly are you unsure about?

Shadow Silk Hood
Looks like a damn good rant to me. I went to w117, did a 5:5 on a floor I'd already done (F30) with a group of strangers. We came across a night spider, I killed it, took the hood and got out the dung before they took another hour to unlock ten doors. Yeah, I used them. But I've got a SSH for keeps. :shades:

9-Nov-2010 - Bank Op and Equip Screen Update (BOAESU)
Unless it is rather fail the update implys you can do right-click fill with bank open and it will fill from essence in your bank not just you inventory. You have to close the bank regardless of the new update to fill up the abyssal BoB. Only now you have the *ahem* convenient option of doing three right-click -> left-clicks instead of just waiting until you close the bank and using three left-clicks only to fill the pouch. There's no way on Earth this update makes RuneCrafting using the ZMI any faster, and baring in mind ZMI is within reason the fastest way of training RCing, I don't understand how this makes RuneCrafting itself any faster. The only logical way this update could make ZMI faster is if you could fill BoBs while in the bank interface, and as far as I can tell, you can't. [/hide] You seem to of missed my point entirely. The update implies that you open bank with EMPTY inventory aside from pouches then right-click fill pouch and essence will go direct from bank > pouch. If this is not the case it will still be a bit faster, unless you are utterly useless at right-clicking as you cut out shut bank > open bank cycle Whether you can fill from the bank or from the inventory is completely and utterly irrelevant. You still have to load the bank up twice in order to fill the abyssal BoB. That's the fundamental flaw.

Why not use three right-clicks when three left-clicks do the job? How the hell does this make RCing faster? [hide=New bank interface][/hide]

Blastbox/Surgebox question.
Nope. The only time I've noticed Fire Blast hit more than 160 is when an empowered staff was also equipped. Otherwise it's been under 160 always. The extra 'splats' of damage that sometimes follow an attack, with a white ring appearing around the victim's feet aren't due to the blastbox, that's the Blazer ring's effect.

02-Nov-2010 - Dungeoneering The Warped Floors
It's not even worth it for the leader of a group if he has to democratically have them removed. If someone's taking 30 seconds in between each floor, I should have a bloody right to kick them off my team, not be voted down by three people who don't know any better and then have to leave a team that *I* set up.

Forming a Perm DG Team
I'm currently duoing with a level 138, despite being level 104 myself. It's convenient for me because it allows me to use mage (which I prefer over melee), his skills are mostly over 90 so doors aren't a problem, and because we've known each other for years, communication isn't an issue. If one of us makes a mistake it's not a big deal and we've developed our own way of dungeoneering. I'm not gonna lie though: combat is INCREDIBLY difficult for me because all the monsters are jacked up by 30 or 40 levels (worse still for the boss) which makes fairly average targets seem like Goliaths. Even when I mage enemies who are weak to magic, it still takes about 30 prayer points per monster on F30+ if I do it on my own. Communication is far more important than combat levels, but having a max combat player on your team when everyone else is so far behind definitely isn't good for either person: 1) You're dying because enemies are too strong; 2) Max combat is dying because there's no one else who can really deal with the level of monsters that need to be faced. It doesn't matter what level combat you are, if four threats are in a room against your solitary 2h, you're probably gonna struggle to win that battle.

Forming a Perm DG Team
I've thought about this in the past, but chat is pretty polarised in that there are very high dungers (like yourself) and then people who don't care/train casually. Might be worth asking though.

Surge box
The way I figure it, just stick at what you're doing and you'll come across one eventually. At 71 dung, should you really be solo'ing anyway?... 5:5 teams are the best way to get drops.
