  1. Agreed. People who go to college with the explicit aim of transforming themselves so they'll be more attractive to sexual partners usually come unstuck when college/university starts. I think that's because students have typically been dropped into a completely new world where they don't know anybody, or very few people at most, and many of their main anxieties are focused around more basic needs like finding friends and learning their way around the place. That's why so many activities and events are thrown during the first couple of weeks simply to get people together and talking to each other. It's not so they have sex necessarily, although many do, it's so they make friends. Learning how to be confident about yourself and your interests to people you've never spoken to is far more important than going on a mission to "reinvent" yourself to girls. If you don't want to go in person, you can pay your respects in other ways, like a phone call to the family or a handwritten letter. I wouldn't feel guilty about not going; it's a very personal choice and I think it would be wrong of people to say that you don't care simply because you didn't go. What I would say though is if the issue makes you feel emotional, perhaps going would be a good way of obtaining closure. Okay, maybe at the point of saying "me:you me and whoever else I feel like", you could have thrown her a bone as well... either by saying "just you and me, what do you think?" or "you me and whoever else I feel like or someone you'd like to invite". I have to admit, although I completely agree about what you said on assertiveness and at least leaving the question on her side of the court, there's nothing in that exchange which makes me think she's interested at the moment anyway. When she asked, "Who is going?" it's implicated that she expects other people to be there.
  2. Not all areas of the UK have the same access to NHS treatment either. The system isn't funded by local authority, but budgets are organised locally. I'm reasonably sure every country with a health service allows for local variations. You're not arguing against anything new here when you say the Supreme Court judged that states can opt out.
  3. Not to start a gun law debate (we've had enough of those over the years on OT and none of them have ever ended well), but that analogy is deeply flawed while gun control laws exist in a lot of developed countries, isn't it?

    I'll remember that tip, thanks!
  5. Party hats being traded using diamond amulets as currency... love it. I wonder what the OT board looked like in those days, that pre-9/11 world.
  6. When you consider that in other games, Betas are massively oversubscribed on a regular basis, that's probably a talking point in itself. How can Jagex account for the apathy shown towards EoC by the RuneScape community?
  7. He didn't even win Florida, let alone Ohio. Incredible. I said before in this thread that Romney's campaign was possibly the worst I've ever seen, from cradle to finish, and having looked at the results, I stick by that. The Republicans need to take a long, hard look at themselves before the next election. Is the Tea Party in control of this ship or not? They seem to have a lot of influence in candidate selection and policy, but in reality, they occupy relatively few seats. Too many times, there's been mixed messages and internal strife coming out of that party.

I'm only 5"0' and I'm normally pretty drunk after three or four pints... Hardcore, I know.
  9. So I've played it a bit more and Big Team Slayer's definitely the way to go at the moment if you struggle with how frantic normal slayer is. Spawns a reasonable distance apart, meaning instant spawns don't make any real difference, much more focus on good, disciplined headshotting, which in my opinion, is what Halo should be all about. So instead of three people spawning at the same time and rushing the other team through, it's generally much more balanced and the team with the best players usually comes out on top. I still stand by my opinion on normal slayer though. The maps are too small for instant spawns, except for that big map with the vehicles. You kill somebody, you try and get into cover or loot their ammo, and they're revenge firing on you within one or two seconds of you killing them. CoD has near-instant spawning too--their maps are also far bigger. It also means all the action gets centered around one point only, which is a sign of pretty awful map design and is a chronic problem on symmetrical maps, unless you make efforts to address it like having three levels (On Reach, you had Countdown and Zealot--both have three levels, and outside of MLG, Zealot has four). On Haven, the action point is top centre and the bit below, only two levels. Barely any action around the ring. The problem's compounded even more by the lifts coming from the bottom ring. Everyone can get in easily, but it's almost impossible to get out and into cover again.
  10. It's in Summoning, if you check his hiscores.

Is that because you're a spirits man or do you not drink much?
  12. If that were true, they'd postpone this update.
  13. Well, for us nowhere, but it's not meant to be for our benefit. It's meant to be a method for Jagex to properly gather information on how its customers feel about the changes they're making to the product, and analyze from that information if they're doing things right. The rigor of these questions, and the half-baked conclusions they seem to have drawn from them (Question 2's probably the best example of the latter) mean that, really, they can't deduce anything useful from this, and so we have to ask ourselves about the point of this exercise. This survey holds barely any weight when viewed objectively and critically. One can only conclude they did this to endorse their own position, and questions like "What part did you like best?" which is a loaded question and one that is clearly open to selective bias, only reinforce that impression.
  14. but 80% of the people support the update they MUST like it  They liked it across all combat levels too, including lower levels, despite this group forming a tiny minority of the respondents (only 6% were below level 60). It's fun picking holes in bad science, isn't it?
  15. Yes, taking a path full of GDs, mages, rangers, necros and whatever else on your own as far as you can before having to gate is so much easier in a 5:5 than it is in a 1:1. The fact I earn one or two deaths, and the XP penalty, for doing so is proof of that, obviously. We have such an easy time! Coordinating the actions and locations of five people is also clearly more manageable than simply having to look after yourself and you alone all dungeon. If that's really the rationale for increasing solo XP then... I'm speechless, I really am. Floors are quicker, they're not easier.
  16. It's not you, people are saying legendary mode on this game is one of the most frustrating things they've ever done. You definitely can't run in with a shotgun and hope for the best now.

If you've ever had to mentor someone and make sure that their inexperience isn't leading to some massive problem, whilst also trying to juggle your own normal workload at the same time... it's exhausting, and a lot of people, as harsh it sounds, don't think it's worth the effort.
  18. Philosophically then, you could say you don't need to play two billion games of everything. Only enough to have experienced winning, losing and drawing, as well as earning enough tokens/points to claim all of the items. After that, it doesn't matter if you play another two billion games; none of those games will carry an experience which you haven't already felt before, albeit on varying magnitudes. I think that's what really frustrates people about the 5K Castle Wars requirement. You don't need a cape to show you like minigames or have experienced them; you playing there regularly is self-evident of that fact. Even those of us who wax lyrical about RuneScape's minigames wouldn't argue that people should be forced to play them. We'd be quite happy if completionists only needed to play it once for the cape, then anyone who fancies staying can do so out of free choice. The way it's set-up now just kills the game, it really does.
  19. We're moving off in all sorts of different tangents here. A lot of these issues could quite easily have their own space for discussion. I don't think Obama will go down as a great President though, just to bring it back to the election and the presidency. He will probably go down as a President who did an alright job with a very weakened economy, but he'll also be remembered for the near total paralysis of Congress under his leadership. Maybe he'll be more assertive now he has no re-election to think about, it'll be interesting to see how that fact changes the dynamics of this stand-off.
  20. Really? I didn't know about the scaling. Fractite would be tier 5 though, so... I just discovered that I really can't be bothered doing a DPS calculation.
  21. That can be annoying, but the potential for that is the same with any weapon (although obviously, other weapons have less of a 'cooldown' period between hits). It's been proven beyond reasonable doubt that, when used with the Berzerker ring over a long term basis, 2h's deal more damage than battleaxes, which are also slash/crush weapons. Leaving a few LPs on a enemy with a 2h is more than made up for by the increased rate of damage you'll be dealing out on them in the first place. But, as I said, if you're not going to bother with protection prayers, it's going to be tough anyway because a lot of your XP will fly out of the window with all the deaths you're suffering. So unless it really, really means a lot to you, I'd advise against it.
  22. Not sure what's wrong with a 2h and a Zerk ring, to be honest. So, 40/45 Attack/Strength would be a fractite 2h. The logic is that anything weak to stab is also usually quite weak to slash or crush, negating the need for a stab weapon. But if you're not going to use combat magic or prayers, and you want to stay on 1 defence, you're in for a hard time.
  23. I got 114,073 years, but yeah, either way you can get it in no time. Only takes the whole course of human history. Non-stop.
  24. It IS a pokemon :P http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rayquaza Lolz. Shows how out of touch I am. *passes Kaida his cane* |^_^| He must've only played Red/Blue. He has missed out on so much.
  25. Unless the content people feel is missing will be added in the EoC update. It's quite normal for betas not to contain everything. I don't really know enough to make a sophisticated comment, but from the reaction here I'm guessing a lot of it's missing, though.
