The problem is that tanks aren't sorted on various defence\whatever - 99 defence doesn't have to fight 99 defence etc, it's all combat levels. So if a range tank is the same combat level yet far superior in offensive\defensive power, it currently is the most powerful combat style. Notice I didn't say 'overpowered' - one style will always be on top, by definition - but it is certainly the clear cut (though not well known) winner.

Hence why you do yaks to 70, avansies to 85, chins + avansies to 99; it's easily 2.5x faster then melee, making it virtually equal to a 99 attack\strengh\45 defence pure in training time. I'm glad you realize the whole 99 range vs. 45 defence\maxed melee vs. 99 defence thing. That's the entire point of this thread :-#

Yup. Hence why I have so many bars and d boots (points to sig). Those basically make up my 70-98 range :P And no, d claws don't work that well at 74 attack\strength. At 99? They work OK, hit around half the time on 99 defence. Range does not have an amazing spec weapon, but the regular weapons far make up for it with bolt effects and hitting power.

You do, of course, realize that with avansies\chinchompas you can train to 99 range for free, at 160k XP per hour - whereas melee maxes, with two skills, at 100k per hour? Range is roughly 3 times as fast to max as melee, enough that you can still get 99 defence and range faster then 99\99\45. And that 99 range\defence will do far better then 45 defence 99\99 melees.

It's called multitasking, and I can accurately and helpfully respond to a thread in under 10 seconds, as illustrated above. Unfortunately, for the 10 seconds I spend replying, I spend 50 seconds clicking 'submit' and waiting for the timer to run off. If I click too fast, it dumps me to the thread page without submitting my reply without informing me. If you feel the need to have dozens of tabs open, then the flood control is working perfectly. Yeh you can type fast and multitask Yo but the reason you are getting the flood warning is because you have 15 topics open. And unless you are typing out really decent replies after reading through the whole topic then it shouldn't be a problem. Bla bla bla, all in all, you are probably only one a few that has 15 tabs open, that is your choice and of course you won't be able to post all 15 in the space of a minute. What? 15 tabs is just so I can read more pages without waiting for them to load. It has nothing to do with how many posts (although my posting is very slightly faster because of the lack of internet loading delay) I'm posting. I'm getting the flood warning because I can read and respond to a post in 15 seconds - accurately and helpfully.

Honestly, do you have any idea what you're talking about (no) or did you just wiki T1 and look for a number? T1 is used for servers and offices and such because it has symmetrical up and down speeds, as opposed to residential cable or whatever where the upload speed is almost always going to be significantly less than the download speed. T1 lines also connect directly into the ISP's "hub" (there's a technical term, presence point or something like that), as opposed to a residential connection, which can be routed through several "sub-hubs" (again, there's a technical term and a bit more to it, but I can't find the source I remember right now) before connecting to the ISP's main one. I'd never recommend one for residential use because it's just stupid to pay that much, but saying the connection is garbage is equally stupid. Thank You! I think what compfreak847 meant was that t1 lines are only rated at 1.5mb/s which is slow. The ping times would be slightly better since your directly plugged into the ISP but the bandwidth would suck (and I don't think an isp would even wire any new t1 lines). Most companies that have dedicated lines do not have t1 lines, they are old and slow, they have OC-3 or higher. The term t1 for a dedicated line has stuck around for any dedicated fast line. Exactly! Obviously you'll get slightly less ping times, but your paying 300$+ a month for (very) slightly less latency - my Comcast connection that costs 1/5th that gets me a 9ms ping - but at the cost of bandwidth. Your literally paying 5-10x the cost for 1/5th the bandwidth. Obviously the reliability and support has its benefits for businesses, but why on earth would any residential customer use a T1 :|

It takes me about 5 seconds to type "No, it just drains slower in the regular zones" and hit post. I am not overestimating the power of range. You are drastically overestimating it. 99 range will rip 45 defence to shreds, faster then it can eat. I can easily prayer switch on someone who is trying to whip\range without ever taking unprotected damage, all the time dealing him more damage. Melee does not do well on 99 defence. Range does very, very well on 45 defence. 99 defence isn't going to totally nullify all attacks. 99 defence isn't going to hold up against 99 attack and strength without taking a great deal of damage. And 99 ranged is going to hit just as high on 99 defence as opposed to 45. And I highly doubt you can prayer switch that well. How much PVP have you done? No offense to you, but I'm expecting not much. 99 defence will make 99 attack\strength miss well over 3/4ths the time. 99 range will hit over 3/4ths the time on 45 defence; without prayer, that 45 defence is going to get hit faster then it can eat. Prayer switching on weapons is simple, as anyone who's done a decent amount of PVP will tell you (1,200 hours and counting here, I'm typing this at clan wars)

Along with a high install price as a line has to get run to your location. Never got the point of a t1. 1.5 downstream is garbage. Wow, I've never seen a person that calculates efficiency in RuneScape since Kent. Sirhemen told me of a fairly new method that increases my xp/hour while using High-Alchemy. But remember that High-Alchemy is my final resort! Thanks for the help so far! Grr... We haven't met, I demand efficiency calculations :-# I'm sure that his mage XP increase is fairly widely known, but it's still the best training method :P

Now, as I was saying, despite having a 50\50 chance each time you flip the coin, your going to have a 0.0009765625 chance of flipping nothing but heads 10 times in a row. Not that it has to do with your previous flips. Same goes for visage\no visage drop.

Alching, 70k per hour (vs. 30-40k waving at avansies) w/ 30-50k loss (roughly what most methods will give, but with less XP). It's simply the best method for 80- mage. Do it in a PVP world and you'll average a significant profit.

Did I say either of the above 3? No, I did not. Point by point. 2 parties bashing at each other - I'm assuming your referring to multi, feel free to clarify if you are not. In that case, the tank ranger has a HUGE advantage with 99 defence, and magic defence, against a rune pure with 45 defence\virtually 0 magic defence. 1 style of combat - Again, you are referring to hybridizing, the use of two or more combat styles. Should the opposing party use magic, the ranger's built in combat triangle advantage would quickly take care of him; we can rule out that possibility. Should the opposing party switch between range and melee, the ranger still have the advantage - he is going to out hit the other players range with 99 range\45 defence with 99 range\99 defence, and his defence will give him the edge in plain old melee vs. range (the point of this thread). As for switching attack styles while during prayer, it's far too easy to switch prayer, meaning the ability to both melee and range is meaningless; one has to stick with the superior offensive power. In this case, it's 99 range\45 defence - which will make quite a poor showing against 99 range\99 defence when coupled with inferior 45 defence outfits! Please do not post again if it is merely to complain 'wahh, your missing my point'. If I'm missing your point, TELL ME HOW. Saying 'your missing my point; I'm referring to meleers who suddenly switch to mystic armor and mage, not switch to d hide and range' will get your point across, not simply complaining about me missing it.

Ok, I'll try to explain it... You've played Fist of Guthix, and I assume you've used magic and melee, correct? You know how your opponent switches his prayers to deal with your attacks, and you switch your attack style to combat that. That's prayer switching. Now, you know how often magic splashes on d hide outside of FoG, and seeing as tanks typically only use ranged and magic; you can just slap on protection from ranged and laugh at their maximum hit of 30. Now, say you're a maxed rune pure. You're going to be very near the level of a maxed tank. As a rune pure, you're going to have very high ranged, attack, and strength; meaning that unlike the tank, if your opponent just prays ranged or melee, they're still going to get hit for some big numbers. Also, when you hybrid in PvP worlds, you're not going to be switching every single piece of your gear when you change styles. Most people will wear Ahrim's skirt and switch their top depending on what style they're going to use (fighter torso for melee, Karil's top for ranged, Ahrim's top for mage) and switch to a rune defender when they want to melee and a mage's/Zamorak book when they want to mage or range. So your saying that a rune pure is > tank during prayer because he hits higher? That has nothing to do with prayer (and for the record, melee max with whip + prayer is around 24; range max with rune c bow and prayer is 36). The big difference is that the ranger has an extremely high hit rate on rune armor and 45 defence. Take my word for it - 45 defence will be eating almost constantly to try and keep up with the hits of 99 range. 99-99 melee stats vs. 99 defence + vengance are nothing like 99 range vs. 45 defence. [/hide] You're still not getting what I'm trying to say.
