They'll perfect the GE. You can simply have it update as often as you like, and there'll be no limits. If the street price flies far away from the GE price, no worries, the GE will still keep track of them and quickly catch up, and won't get in the way of trades. It will be awesome.

Second round
There's a huge thread about this here: http://forum.tip.it/topic/283143-wilderness-and-free-trade-vote-referendum/

Good point. I'm not sure if there's really anything anybody can do about it. I voted 'yes' with one account, by the way. I support Jagex here, but not fanatically, since it still boils down to a vote on trust.

Although I agree with you Danq that it's not really fair to vote multiple times if you have more than one account, you can take solace in the idea that for every person who votes 'yes' with multiple accounts, there's about a proportionate number of people who vote 'no' with an equal number of accounts. As far as I'm aware, there's no correlation with how you feel about the issue and how many accounts you have.

We live and we learn
I know some of you guys weren't around back when the RWT updates hit, but I warn you guys that when we had this discussion back in Dec '07, it didn't work out. Google Trends are only very rough indicators of popularity, and aren't conclusive, and it doesn't distinguish between real players and bots, or old players and new players. You can't conclude anything from them.

Me too. I think this puts the claims of the insecure voting system and lack of info to rest now. Cheers, Jagex. The use of the name 'Referendum' strongly suggests that this is the last word on the matter. If it succeeds (although the definition of success is still up to Jagex here, it's probably something like 70% yes votes or something), then the motion gets passed. EDIT: I'm convinced that Phase 2 was invented as a response to criticism of the flawed vote of the 'petition', as opposed to something which they planned all along. After all, the first vote wasn't called Phase 1 at any point. It's a bit shady, but at least it resolves the issues.

I'm with you bro. I liked that quest. One of my favourites. With you too. Legacy of Seergaze is probably in my top 5 favourite quests.

Uh, we didn't stand as a whole against Jagex back in Dec '07. We were really divided back then, moreso than now, and the people who agreed with Jagex were probably in the majority, or at least they were making the more reasoned arguments. This time, there's no debate, only one condition; If Jagex can fight the horde of cheaters in full 'free trade' swing, bring back free trade. If they can't, don't. It's a big bet, but I'm for it.

New RuneScape trailer
Have some of you guys considered that this trailer might mainly be for the people already playing this game? If they really wanted to make it to draw in new players, they'd point to either the last trailer concerning Dungeoneering, with only slightly improved graphics layered over actual gameplay, or head straight into the 'Not actual gameplay footage' territory and go all out. This is a trailer for people like us who want to see the future of the game, and it's looking pretty good. Also, now that I've found out that this will be the future of the game: Oh my god.

You liked it when people were scamming other players? Back then, there were cheaters, scammers, lurers, and macros galore. Yet, everyone says it was really great. Really? Or is it just some form of nostalgia? Honestly, I've moved on from the days of the wilderness and free trade and have come to enjoy Runescape as it is today just as much. And after all these updates throughout these 3 years to please the pking community and try to make the game reflect how it used to be as much as possible, it seems counterproductive to go back. Nobody says that the cheaters, scammers, lurers or macros were great. Well, nobody but the very few people who actually cheated or mysteriously based their enjoyment of the game on the low prices of raw materials. A lot of people did say that the idea of a truly brutal, terrifying and lawless land, where you can either be killed for nearly everything you're holding or come back with riches of your own as a result of your own skill was great. The idea of being freely able to hold competitions with proper prizes was great. Freely exchanging money for services, as opposed to goods, was great. We just accepted that the rising tide of illegal RWTing wasn't going to be beaten when we had those things. Now, it's definitely productive to go back to that, given that the game can still exist afterwards. Jagex says it will, so we support them.

Same here, give old-wildy to pk'ers if they really want it that bad but keep trade-limits and ge. That's impossible. A PK is in essence a one way unbalanced trade. Restricted trade would then no longer work. Simply put, if you have one, there's no point in not having the other.

I had a sneaking suspicion that there were more crates to be found, but I didn't want to search the entire map. I'll take a look, thanks. :)

They'll be eliminated, so long as the GE has its restrictions lifted too, and just applies a 'recommended price'.

It's just that tip.it argued about this for a long time, and finally came to the consensus that Jagex was right to remove free trade three years ago. It took at least 6 months to sort it out. We can't suddenly start arguing the opposite without knowing a lot more about what's changed than we do. We want to know the exact reasons why this won't destroy Jagex's business model because of credit card fraud, because it was commonly thought that bot-detecting technologies can never beat bot makers. A technology that can beat the bot makers without ceasing player to player interaction completely sounds like something mythical and completely impossible. I believe Andrew said this himself. EDIT: Y'know Jagex, a Dev Blog about this wouldn't go amiss.

Old Wildy = Old flaws They should also allow all items because no items were ever "banned" from old wildy pking. I've decided to go along with all of this even though I'm skeptical of it. The vote is still a load of bs though. You do understand why extremes and overloads were banned from PvP, right? It's got nothing to do with free trade, it's to do with combat levels. Those bans will remain until the combat level system is changed. You don't have to be a JMod to work that one out.

Jagex Financial Report 2008-09
This is a rare justified necro-thread, I was looking for this, thanks. If trends are anything to go by, the game should be progressing fine in terms of profits, which indicates that the Wilderness/Free Trade palava isn't some kind of last-ditch attempt at raking in profits before the ship sinks. Then again, trends don't always work out. I await the next report.

So, if I've got this right, Jagex thinks they can take the bots on in full swing even with all of the free-trade methods available to them? And they've convinced transaction companies and banks that this will work? But... but... how? How can they possibly win? This is madness! [cue]

One aspect yet unconsidered...
Bingo. If they don't do this right, it's gonna create even more problems than existed before December 07 and spell the death of RS as far as I'm concerned. Most people say that every update after 12/07 spelt the death of RS. They'd also be, without question, wrong. We got through 3 entire years, didn't we? I have to admit, there's a lot of work to be done. If the Wilderness is no longer going to be what has amounted to a human colony, a lot of the buildings and structures like Clan Wars needs to be removed. Even better if they leave the buildings there, but they're accessible, completely smashed to pieces and 'in the Wilderness'. Say that a new wave of the taint on the Wilderness has struck, destroying nearly every enchantment holding the taint back, and a huge wave of revenants came in to finish off the defenceless warriors. Or maybe tie it in with the Stealing Creation plot.

I would hope so, because otherwise that would completely confirm our suspicions that Jagex have already decided to do it anyway. They wouldn't develop something this big just to throw it away. There's a lot of work to be done applying old concepts to newer stuff in the game.

You're right. Jagex should have put out a FAQ on everything they would do if it went ahead beforehand, not a day afterwards. Everyone is overstating the meaning of this. Guinness uses this box to keep tabs on their record holders. Try scrolling through it... Also, the article doesn't mention anything we don't already know: -snip- Why would Guinness have that article under "world records in the news" when jagex cleary stated in 15-16-179-62043182 that this is no record breaking event. I would [bleep]in die for this update but tis really sketchy. Runescape is a world record. It's the most popular free online game. It's also got some pretty big news. What more do you want?
