More USA documents get released by Wikileaks
Well, it has. I would say that giving people the illusion that they actually have lives by attaining a large number of random internet associates (AKA "friends") on their profile page constitutes as revolutionizing social interaction. After all, the site single-handedly dropped society's standards on what social interaction is. But since I'm such an introverted rebel, my points all of a sudden lose their merit. Facebook isn't just a detriment. It's a cancer decaying social etiquette and everything our great grandfathers have worked for - and I'm sure they would agree. Please tell me what measure you're using to place certain social interactions above others. Without that, this is meaningless.

14-Dec-2010 - Damage Soaking and New Hitsplats
It makes no difference...considering now f2p magic spell OR range attack hits above 200. Nice thought though. Way to go Jagex >.> This update weakens f2p melee and Jagex might add hits higher than 200 for f2p magic and ranged in the future. It's good development procedure.

He's changed society into something different than what it was before, with respect with more people than anyone else has managed. Whether that, or anything, equates to 'contribution to society' is meaningless. Also, I don't think Facebook has any interest in winning any originality or creativity contests, and it shouldn't. Being something different would only limit how many people would access it, and that would defeat its purpose. People never seem to think these things through before jumping on the 'I hate Facebook' bandwagon, do they?

The option of empty for coal bag on deposit box
There's a lot of nice things that can be done with the Banking system, this is one of them. I'd like to be able to access my BoB's inventory in the same way I can access my equipment screen mid-banking. Extra points if it can be done directly, so if I switch on an option to include my BoB's inventory when I withdraw items, clicking 'withdraw all' will fill up both my inventory and my BoB's.

17-Dec-2010 - Players' Gallery: Winter Special
I think that's just the artist and their friend. You're probably thinking of the Varrock Librarian (forgot his name) as Paul/andrew. Reldo, and I think you're right. The atmosphere of that picture is really just perfect. Also, what is really going on with Mr. Mordaut? Seriously?

Maplestory's Big Bang Update
I hear people complain about how the combat is still quite passive and unbalanced a lot more than how the levelling system is difficult. In my opinion, how levelling works is quite reasonable right now. I'll fully support a good overhaul of the stats of armour and weapons. Seeing what Jagex did with Dungeoneering items, they're clearly a lot more clued up about balanced systems now, but they're too scared to put that knowledge into practice on their older content.

Hidden Corp Update?
No, not really. It's just that players are ridiculously overpowered now, lol. The DSS in particular is extremely OP. I would disagree, because the players are what the game is based on, which means other stuff in the game (quests, skills, monsters) should be compared to the players, i.e. corp, compared to the players, is underpowered. You realise that you're saying exactly the same thing, right? Being overpowered or underpowered is relative. The theory is perfectly testable, and it's plausible that Jagex can and does tweak some bosses to change the flow of their drops into the game. Testing, ahoy!

What do you want from 2011?
Not really. On the most part, it works fine. The days of updates big enough to redefine the game are long gone, because the game is far bigger than any update Jagex can muster without being tempted to releasing it in parts. Also, I like the idea of cleanup year, filling up the empty spaces in content, and tidying up every interface to be elegant and efficient (as well as standardised! The huge variety of older and newer windows makes them very unintuitive). Also, more clothes and character personalisation. That was probably the most widely supported update I've ever seen, and I'm keen to see more.

Crazy man shoots at school board
You know that in around schools are dedicated "Gun free zones"... 1000 foot buffers where its illegal to carry a firearm. That frivolous law didn't stop this guy from carrying a gun in, but I bet it stopped everyone else (law abiding citizens). If every one of those board members and people in the audience had a gun, this f---er wouldn't have got a shot off. Bet that didn't occur to you  . That 'f---er' was an unstable person. That doesn't make him any less of a person, it just makes his judgements likely to be unsound at the time. It does not by any means give you a right to point a gun at, or even shoot, him. When you reduce people to the point that you make it ok for them to be killed or threatened to be killed by another person, for any reason, it's very easy to descend into terrible consequences. It disturbs me a lot that so many people still have this mentality. If I was there, and I had a gun, I would have no problem shooting him to save the board members. Killing him would not be my intention, saving everyone else would be my intention. If he died by my hand because of that, its an unfortunate consequence, but not my intention. His rights as a person went straight out the window as soon as he threatened others. You'll notice that the situation ended when the security guard shot him and the SWAT team moved in. We need more people like the security guard. A right that can be freely ignored at the discretion of someone else is not a right at all. When you threaten him in return, do your 'rights' go out of the window as well? Is it then morally fine for him shoot you? Both of you believe that what you're doing is the right action. That guy wants justice for his wife, you want the safety of yourself and your colleagues. What happens if a security guard stumbled in with no idea of what just happened and sees two men pointing guns at each other?

I has a hardrive
The enclosed part of the PSU should be the only part that might have capacitors that are still live if the computer is unplugged, which it should be if you are going to work in it. Not really much chance of getting shocked. 80gb? Destroy it and get the magnet out of it, that's all it is good for anymore. I don't think you've understood what Dupin said at all. You won't receive an electric shock, but you can easily damage motherboards or other components by letting them either build up static electricity, or being clumsy and letting them hit each other with enough force. 'You'd be fried' clearly means you'd damage it beyond repair, in this context. Also, are you seriously saying that 80GB isn't useful storage? I put an 8GB one in mine, simply because there's virtually no drawbacks to adding them if they work. 80GB's useful for putting backups of your documents and pictures folder.

Tip.it Times - 12th December 2010
Regarding the first article, I have to ask: Does it really matter that they have similar structure? There aren't many alternative structures that are engaging, and those that are only work because of novelty. One Small Favour was a clever quest, but you wouldn't want another one that does the same thing. Do No Evil, even if it was essentially talking, puzzles, the mother of all fetches, puzzles, boss, boss, boss, was a fine quest. It's down to the characters, the myths and legends, the scenery, and all of the other wonderful things that RS quests provide.

Fighting Arena
So add an option to the Duel Arena which gives the contenstants unlimited ammo? This sounds like a lot of hard work for very little benefit.

Max Level Cap increased to 120?
Yeah, but there's some locked skills that need the buff. What about non combat skills getting the buff first? Mmm, perhaps. What skills in particular were you thinking of?

The Effects of Raising The Cost of Higher Education.
I wouldn't touch the NUS with a bargepole, if I had one lying around, it's essentially a Labour Youth group, although it's done very well to hide that to a lot of students. My university agrees and has no contact with them. I have a few gripes with what the government is doing, but I agree that parts of it are a step in the right direction. Firstly, universities must be completely transparent about what they're spending the fees on to the students, and publish everything on the Internet. They have no business keeping their financial details secret, because I can't imagine them trying to be anything other than corrupt as possible regarding this. They are, after all, private businesses. Secondly, it shouldn't have free market elements at all. By simple supply and demand, the less useful and mass produced courses will have lower prices, and the more useful courses with greater prospects will have higher prices. I, a prospective Chemical Engineer, have made the decision to go on a career path which is frankly much more likely to generate bigger tax revenues than a History or Media Studies student. Will I not pay more for my degree anyway? Or is the way that tax scales with income wrong? If so, why not alter that instead? I propose that there is still a flat rate, but increased. All universities should be completely transparent with their financial details, and from that information, a value can be set each year to cover it. It's like the original student fees, but linked to whatever costs it's trying to cover, rather than forcing universities to make do with a given kitty. I imagine it would be around the £6000 mark.

Bill Clinton takes over Obama press conference
Yep Chinese President Hu Jintao. He's also bowed to Emperor Akihito of Japan and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. He likes to show his head in submission to all these foreign leaders. Clinton taking over his press conference should be no surprise. ...or he isn't fully aware of the intricacies of how the culture around bowing to each other works, a likelier option. A hell of a lot of people from countries that don't have that as part of their culture aren't entirely sure how it works, me included. He must have gone along with what everyone else did, which is usually a safe bet. Don't knock him for stupid things like that, I'm pretty sure there's more reasonable targets to be found. Judging by what I've heard, is Obama unpopular because he hasn't been strong enough to get is policies through? I mean, he had some really good ideas, especially the one about the health service (it works here, nuff said), but never got it done.

Max Level Cap increased to 120?
The foundations of certain skills needs to be sorted out, such as firemaking and fletching, before we should consider extending them. They're boring enough with level 99, putting more levels will just make the problem more difficult to fix. Also, combat will seriously break, with OHKOs aplenty. My answer is maybe in the future, but not now and not soon.

Meds
The occasional paracetamol if I'm not feeling right, but that's pretty rare. Other than that, I haven't had any other meds for years, even when I went through a bit of depression. I had the feeling that taking something for it would cement the idea in my mind that I couldn't deal with it myself and make it worse.

What is your favorite Internet browser?
I use Chrome for the clever UI and speed. It really surprises me how much of a waste it is for programs to not use the top window bar for tabs or dynamic information. Plenty of programs use them in their own bars below the window bar, I think Microsoft would do well to put in a feature like that in Windows as standard for programs to take advantage of, much like Jump Lists. Then again, they probably won't because it will send out the message that Chrome was 'right' about something and therefore IE was 'wrong'... It has one, but it only hides the ads, I don't think it actually blocks them. It definitely blocks them. When Extensions first came out, ad blockers couldn't stop them from loading, but changes to the browser a couple of months later made it possible, Firefox style.

Typed Emotes
I really like it, I imagine it would be fairly simple to do. For some of the emotes with longer names, it might be good to put in some shorter names that you can type instead, for convenience. Actually, it might be necessary for the names to not have spaces, although I'm uncertain about this. I'll make a list. Jump for Joy -> Jump Blow Kiss -> Kiss Goblin Bow -> Gbow Goblin Dance -> Gdance Glass Box -> Box Climb Rope -> Rope or Climb Glass Wall -> Wall Slap Head -> Slap Bunny-Hop -> Bunny Snowman Dance -> Snowman or Snow Air Guitar -> Guitar Safety First -> Safety Give Thanks -> Turkey Around the World in Eggty Days -> Around Dramatic Point -> Point Puppet Master -> Puppet Of course, it would be even better if some of the more generic ones like yes, no and wave can be done while moving (Perhaps using really short shortcuts like Y:, N: and Hi:?). The more you can animate your character according to what you're saying, the better. EDIT: I'm suggesting that these can be used as well as the full names of the emotes, although they'll have the same effect, to avoid confusion.

07-Dec-2010 - Tools for Clans {Developer Blog}
A completely optional piece of content made you quit the game that you like? You're really smart and you're not a 12 year old. Have you ever heard of the phrase 'The straw that broke the camel's back'?

More USA documents get released by Wikileaks
The muscle that all of these different companies and services, the things that have come to define our lives in the last decade, are employing according to what the US government says is terrifying. The internet seems much more like a battleground for free speech, rather than a haven of it nowadays. There's a lot of people who acknowledge that a lot of these cables aren't particularly earth-shattering, and they're right, but they're missing where the real leak is. It's the true face of the US government when faced by organisations like Wikileaks. To US citizens, please help stop this madness, the whole world will suffer from it.

07-Dec-2010 - Warriors Guild and Dragon Defender
Now this is the right way to approach this kind of update. Nearly everyone had some kind of goal or task that they were dealing with, so make progress in that for a bit and then consider going for the ddef later. I need to grab 80 magic personally, then I'll get the defender. Also, why are people crying over the reasonable increase in stats for the time taken to get it, especially when it calms down? It's a dragon defender. Even if it was only for +1 strength over Rune, people have gone to far greater lengths (see Fremennik rings and imbuing) for that.

Dungeoneering Suggestions
I agree with all of them. PvP and Dungeoneering are a match made in heaven, although they'd have to be symmetrical maps, otherwise it will be nearly impossible to guarantee that both teams have equal opportunities at getting resources.
