Have you ever taken a really hot shower while you were stressed out, one so hot that it would hurt normally? It's relaxing, the pain relieves the stress. I've been told that cutting oneself is much like an extreme case of that. That doesn't make it any better, but it does explain why some people do it. The pain takes their minds off the stress. I've never considered it that way before. In a strange way, it makes sense. Thanks for opening my eyes a bit on that one :)
