  1. If thats the only reason you care to come to our community , why not just leave now ? I wouldn't miss you ... Finding enough moderators who are trustworthy and dont pose any type of security risk is alot harder then it may seem. On top of that we already get a good handful of users complaining in posts that our moderators are "too strict" or "on a power trip" etc. The even more ridiculous part of it , its usually when they have their signature or avatar removed, which isnt even done by the Moderators. No , it shows that they have posted alot. It says absolutely nothing about their intelligence, only shows that they have the ability to click and type.
  2. I shall call it "ugh" rofl
  3. I have no problem adding user submitted smileys , at the moment I was trying to limit them to 49 (7 columns , 7 rows) so i can accomodate 7 more .. the one in your orginal post .... What would you "call" it ? bored? indifferent? I just need a "name" for the emotion :)
  4. I'm sorry but as a forum USER , not an admin , I still dont feel that post count should be used a judgement factor on someones "trustworthyness". If somebody posts a link and you dont trust it or dont know how to keep your computer safe , DONT CLICK ON IT. Lets take 2 long time users , I'll even use admins as an example ... Lightning - 1195 posts , co-owner of tip.it , third person ever to sign up for Runescape Sunli - 8765 posts , obviously more knowledgeable about RS, TIF, and everything else because OMG SHE HAS POSTED 8x AS MUCH!!!! It holds no water. (not that Sunli isn't as sharp as a tack :) ) The other main arguement here is "I dont see that many spam posts in an attempt to raise post count".... Do you browse EVERY forum, EVERY topic ? Well, I doubt it , but our moderators pretty much do , and you would prolly puke at the amount of posts that have to be removed. "harsher penalties - ban the spammers" - We already have WELL OVER FIVE THOUSAND ENTRIES in our ban system (pathetic). With the amount of work she does around here I would guess that over 2000 of Sunli's posts are bans alone. We dont want to have to keep banning people and then rebanning them , etc .. When would enough be enough ? Just dont jump on the Admin team for bringing this whole subject up , this is a USER started topic, which already had 5 pages of discussion before the decision to poll it and let the users decide was made. But I will throw some figures out just to back up my performance claim as thats my reasoning for being for the total removal of post counts (and topic views) In the month of June , TIF grossed roughly 56 MILLION page hits (forum only , not the helpsite) , ~48,000 new topics were posted , and ~150,000 individual posts were entered into the database. So thats roughly 56.2 MILLION disk writes to update a stupid counter. As it stands right now , our database service was last restarted for maintenance 6 days ago , and already has logged over 30 million database queries. Would you rather have a post count and topic view count, or would you rather have forums that dont lag when 400 people are all clicking links to read a post ? :P
  5. and just for the record Bush won the election by having his brother monkey-rig the ballet machines in Florida to prevent proper voting.
  6. It still has to fetch the entire user row, so the speed increase would be negligible. feteching the row when reading posts of course wouldnt add any noticeable difference, but when a post is made , update queries are sent to 4 different tables, so posting would show an small improvement overall , especially during peak hours, when topic views were removed temporarily , table writes(updates) decreased by almost 50%
  7. Many of our users have been debating the topic of whether or not user post counts should be removed from our forums or not. Due to the overwhelming response to the debate , We have decided to leave it up to our users to make the decision. A poll has been set up on the topic debating the issue which will run for 7 days. The results will be the final decision in the matter, so we ask that all registered users cast their vote. The topic and poll can be found Here. *You must be a registered forum member to read the topic and cast your vote.
  8. Unfortunately users cant start their own groups as there really wouldnt be any purpose to it , as you wont have access to the Administrator options to set up the groups permissions.
  9. zaber is a chicken feather lawl and you're a spam poster.. whats your point?
  10. Its actually quite easy and already written , the Admins have been sort of "crash testing" the function for me elsewhere. :)
  11. Drive carefully , Fiero's were known as the death-traps of the 80's
  12. If I could get away with it without 40,000 people whining and crying , trust me , it would be gone ....
  13. I dont think I've gone a single day without reading 100+ pages in over 10 years so ... yes I do enjoy it :)
  14. Well , as its a relatively new feature , I'm going to let it stand as is for a while and see how much demand there is for adding to it.
  15. Done , The only thing I would like to point out , is that the memberlist is setup to not display users until they have activated their account , and that isnt going to change, so take that into consideration when trying to find a username that is either new , or old and was never activated (although a TON of those were removed a few months ago)
  16. Since you havent been around, I'll clarify for you http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=421740 Jagex updated the "Real World Trading" rule to include forum signatures as items you cannot buy with runescape gp. You are welcome to offer services for free and use this forum for advice and such though :)
  17. You explained the purpose for this topic being closed on your own
  18. Some of the google results I was reading said that it would block images that were contained in folders named "banners" or "ads" due to just the names lol As the css for the main site does contain the word "ads" here and there using the Z-index for positioning purposes , I figured it was worth a shot hehe PDJ already told me it didnt work though :(
  19. It seems to be a common problem with Nortons Adblocking methods, as the CSS and Jscripts for tipit are stored in external files try this 1. Open your Norton software. 2. Highlight 'Ad Blocking,' and select 'Configure.' 3. Click 'Advanced.' 4. Click 'Web Contents,' and select 'Add Site.' 5. Enter 'tip.it.' 6. Click the 'User Settings' tab, and uncheck 'Use Ad Blocking settings.' 7. Select 'Permit.' Seems to have solved the problems of images and CSS being blocked for other users of NIS on the net ... worth a shot I guess
  20. You have to remember , its a word search , if a user posts complete nonsense that doesnt pertain to the post but contains the words you have searched for , the result will be displayed. Unfortunately we have lots of those posts that contain nonsense that doesnt belong :P
  21. Profile Option - RuneScape Username links to Highscores A simple change has been made to this function . the RSN when viewing a topic will now open a new window of the users highscores page at runescape.com thanks to Necromancer_Magic for suggesting it and providing the proper link for the lookup
  22. Profile Option - RuneScape Username After countless requests, I have added a new field to user profiles to display Runescape Username. This option will be displayed under the posters info when viewing topics and when viewing user profiles. As we are aware that alot of our users no longer play Runescape, the field is completely optional and will not be displayed when viewing topics if it is left blank in their profile. Users wishing to utilize this new field can find it located under the "Location" field in their profile. Albosky
  23. Translation => Look ! I'm a moron!
  24. Linking another website with the sole intent of flaming the users there is just plain immature.... Try having something useful to post before clicking the "new topic" image
