  1. I think it's fair to warn you: The University of Texas has been using that handsign for more than a hundred years, it was first used at football games in 1896. And it's cow horns. And I hate UT.
  2. For me it was Shiva, Anarith in-game. I convinced him to get members, and we would always play together. Hope all is well in the next life, buddy.
  3. Our point still stands that only OUR world is getting better, not the entire world. There are entire nations out there (I can think of one neighboring country, can you?) where the medieval system of feudalism persists to this day. Our point that it's inconsiderate for Americans, Brits, and other 1st world countries to say it's all getting better, when such archaic things are still occurring in the world. Whether it happens any more or less frequently is irrelevant, it's still occurring. Saying anything to the contrary is just kidding yourself.
  4. No, because that costs money to us. We've solved hunger in this country, but go to sleep comforted by the fact that it's "better than it used to be" in other nations, when we have the power to stop it. And PS: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/18/studen ... index.html Relevant to topic. Guy was just a publicity stunt.
  5. I'm still rooting a bit for McCain.
  6. Developed world, yes. But is anything being done to help the developing world? No, because it's not convenient to us. All those issues are still rampant in the third world.
  7. Besides my opinion on abortion, the only problem I have with Barack is his complete lack of experience. He has almost no federal experience, and less than one term of a Senatorial career. He's worse at foreign policy than Bush, too. I do like his stance on the war (not afraid to back down, not campaigning on troop removal to garner votes). I still consider Hillary to be the AntiChrist incarnate. There's absolutely nothing I like about her or her policies. I am not a sexist, but there are numerous women I would rather have as President.
  8. Right now I haven't seen anyone that I would like to vote for. I will be watching the Republican primaries very closely. Don't even get me started on the movie/rockstar debacle that the Democratic Primaries were. I was almost embarrassed for our political system.
  9. So in your mind, the fact that during the past century, advances in industry, medicine and agriculture has made it possible for our population to increase from 1.6 billion to 6.5 billion means life has gotten more "convenient"? I don't feel entirely out of my depth when I claim that refering to "not dying, but growing up forming a family and procreating" as a "convenience" is a gross understatement. That is true, but it was not brought up by Assassin nor Warri0r. However, we have only managed to do this in 1st tier nations. There are millions dying worldwide from malnutrition and disease. Hence the convenience. It's easy to notice change when it's happening to you, but not to others.
  10. I probably won't play it as I have never owned an Xbox, but it seemed like a good ending. Don't get why people are getting all pissy about it.
  11. You are still failing to see the point, assassin. The epidemics have changed. Millions die every year from diseases like Ebola and HIV/AIDS, but very little support is there for it. People care more about celebrities (this is a world-wide phenomenon, mind you) or for their own convenience than they do some person with no connection to them. Rape is still commonplace. I don't know where you get the notion that it's changed somehow. It's less commonplace than it was 1000 years ago, but it's still common enough that many men and women who have been raped would be offended by your blindness to the problem. Slavery is inherent in every culture, not just human bondage. But while we are on the subject of the latter, it exists in almost every nation on Earth, regardless of it's legality or not. It even happens right here in the US, but we are all too eager to look the other way. Oh, and the notion you say that skin color does not make someone inferior: only in legality only. To think that racism has been eliminated worldwide is complete ignorance on your part. Reverse racism is included, and is rampant in the US, even to the point where it has laws passed in it's favor. But people are blind to it. And the Islamic extremist crusade has every reason to be as feared as the Medieval Crusades. Why? You don't have to send millions of men with swords to accomplish your goals when you can have one man with a vest of C-4 kill hundreds. The sentiment is there, the will to kill to there, and the numbers are there. Think of how many people have been killed by terrorist attacks worldwide in the last 30 years, and it get's awfully similar to the carnage of the Crusades. Defender has a point. The world is not getting better, it's only getting more convenient.
  12. He did. Warrior's points were that we have advanced beyond those things. Defender simply stated that they all exist in some way, shape, and form today. He then goes on to say that anyone who claims that we have advanced past such things is blind, because they happen practically every day.
  13. Pretty sure Bubsa was making a reference to Hitler, there. Heil=hail Fuhrer: Chief, and what Hitler was referred to Plus, that sentence leading up to it was pretty much a big play on Hitler using the "Final Solution" to get back at the social classes he was outcast from. I am not insulting you, I am just clarifying for Bubsa.
  14. Warrior, I don't even know where the hell you are going with that post. Unless you are trying to lead people into thinking he was expressing racist sentiment in his.
  15. People actually follow cliques these days? Hell, I sat with whomever I wanted whenever I wanted. It's called making a variety of friends, do it.
  16. Not all of them are dieing, though. :P You'd be surprised. My grandmother died this past summer, and it took 8 hours for the coroner to arrive to legally pronounce her dead.
  17. Remember that coroners are also spread thinly. My county has over 2 million people in it, but only one coroner! And this is in Venezuela.
  18. Outside of the classroom, talk with new people and get to know them. That way, you will be more calm and relaxed in front of people you don't know. Five years ago I could barely speak in front of crowds. Now, I am a teacher. It's like diving into the deep end, just go for it.
  19. His heart had probably slowed down to the point of inaudibility. It happens frequently in cases of shock. He wouldn't bleed as much, either. It happened on CSI, too :P.
  20. Err...no? Because we would have dropped our bombs right back on them. But I assume you are assuming that the Japanese have the bombs, not us. I'd be pissed, but I'd still admit it was a nice suckerpunch from a historical perspective.
  21. Adding on to what Reb said, that Cabinet Ministry controlled the army. The army controlled the troops by the samurai code. And the people also were bound by these principles. You are applying modern Western ideals to the East 65 years ago.
  22. If Hillary Clinton said that the Church ought to be thrown out of this country, you bet people would be making as big a deal. Neither is right. One of the clearly values the US has is a freedom to practice one's beliefs when they don't harm others unfairly - whether those beliefs be religious or political (or something else entirely) in nature. But MoveOn frequently uses libel and slander, two things not protected by the Constitution. If they were only to present facts, they are covered. But they haven't a clue what the "First Amendment Rights" they hide behind really are. Didn't say Hillary would say the Church should be thrown out. Just to insult it. Which she has done on multiple occasions. It's completely obvious that the article is a spin document, anyways. You make more money showing those than plain old boring facts.
  23. Not only did the Emperor say this, but Admiral Yamamato agreed. If America had not dropped the bombs, the Japanese cabinet never would have surrendered. American troops would have had to storm the beaches and millions and millions more people on both sides would have died. I believe they were justified. And P.S. Nagasaki was fair because after Hiroshima, the Japanese Cabinet declared that the weapon would not force them to surrender. It's also worth noting that the bombs only destroyed military targets, and many casualties from the initial blasts were only from Japanese military policy of keeping civilians close to military factories and bases. Now, we didn't think the whole radiation thing through, though. That, I will admit.
  24. Fixed. We don't put hits out on people. And I don't see how a picture of Christ with a turban would be insulting. From what I hear, turbans were very popular in the Middle East two thousand years ago.
  25. Perish the thought. I believe Tommy Lee Jones said it best in that sage of a film, "Men in Black." "A person is smart. People are paranoid, stupid, and impulsive."
