If you're going to clean it, the best way is with a can of air or a special vacuum. You don't want any static electricity, since it can fry the parts.

For the noise, looks like it's heating pretty much. You could have a look to see if there's a lot of dust in the fan, could be the cause of the CPU not cooling itself off after you stop the CPU intensive activities.

I would like to know if you're using Vista x64. If so, I think my solution could work: First go to the Java contol panel, and in the advanced tab, make sure the familly of browser that you use is enabled, and then, second step, in the plugin part, uncheck the box about new generation plugin.

Windows XP x64 has a [cabbage] load of compatibility problems, I've seen people not even able to get Windows Live Messenger to install, so you were lucky on that. That's why people recommend using Vista x64 or Windows 7 RC x64(if you don't mind using a RC), since they have no compatibility issues. Yes Microsoft was pushing towards another OS than XP x64, but it was not XP 32bit.

yoda, Firefox doesn't need add-ons to be better than IE. I've used Firefox for a long time before thinking of putting add-ons on it, and yet it was much faster and better than IE. I agree on getting Opera though, fits the needs more than Firefox does.

I would think you know about the search function there is in the browser (ctrl+f), but it seaches everything, not just the links.

I believe it works in IE? The solution is simple, open the Java control panel, make sure the Mozilla family is enabled in the defaults and uncheck the new generation thing. I'm not on my Vista 64bit computer right now so I can't make sure that's what I did, but I think that's what I did to make it work in Firefox. Works like a charm too.

You should not name the letter of the drive, just say CD/DVD drive, since it's a different letter for everyone. At least in my experience it is. On the computer I use the most it's N:, and on the other computer it's G:.

Do you use Fraps? Or maybe that's system restore, but that would quite a lot of space taken up from system restore.

Lol, I didn't even have to reinstall Windows on my Asus laptop, worked good and still works very good to this day (almost a year later). Only reason I'm going to format it in the near future is to get rid of vmware and other stuff college put on my laptop.

I'd go for the Asus one. It sure is quality and you won't have trouble with it. My friend bought that Toshiba one, and it was quite slow for the specs. took like 5 minutes to load and wasn't very performant. He then returned it because of the broken power adapter and boght an Hp one that works much better, shame that we don't have any stores that sell Asus laptops around here.
