  1. When I see an emo kid wearing a band T-shirt, I proudly display my own DragonForce shirt, just to let them know what real music is. =) Well, okay, not really, but I have seen emo kids give me odd looks when I wear that DragonForce shirt.
  2. This is news, why? Moore is vicious. He's as bad as mainstream media when it comes to skewing evidence.
  3. If it would take between five and ten seconds to say, I'll SMS it. Otherwise, it's more economical to call.
  4. This is not going according to plan! Someone must warn Supreme Overlord Howard!
  5. Because they're bloody hilarious, especially when they get all so defensive about their emohood. Like they're trying to justify it to themselves as well as everyone else. Apparently they don't care what anyone else thinks, but they're all so damn self-conscious about it. It's a funny little pile of hypocrisy.
  6. I still use the original interface. It doesn't really bother me. Also, I felt this needed to be shared:
  7. are you not living under a government? I'm curious, how exactly did you make the connection between my statement and not living under a government?
  8. It might be well and good for you to say that from Perth, but you've obviously never driven in Sydney.
  9. Your government sucks on multiple levels. Quite literally.
  10. The Redemption of Althalus is, in my opinion, one of Eddings' best works. For starters, the characters actually sound original, rather than just being recycled from previous series he wrote. I still liked the Belgariad, though, but that's about it. I would recommend the Wheel of Time series to anyone with a decent attention span. Jordan has excellent attention to detail, and even though his pace is somewhat slower than other authors', he really makes you feel as though the world is alive. Raymond E. Feist is definitely up there, especially the Riftwar and Serpentwar sagas. Not so much the Conclave of Shadows books, but they're still a decent read. You shouldn't overlook his individual Riftwar saga books, especially Honoured Enemy. The Krondor series is somewhat bland, but decent for keeping up with the background to the main stories. Terry Pratchett is also an excellent author. I've heard bad things said about his writing, mainly by people who haven't got a clue about what he's actually saying and think that he's just writing random things without structure. His books, especially the City Watch novels, are excellent social commentary, while being packed with humour, drama and action at the same time. Tolkien's work is epic and definitely worth a read if you haven't already. There's a lot more to them than an over-the-top screenplay can capture. Also read The Silmarillion, because that's an awesome book. Dune and its descendant books and series are excellent works of sci-fi. I'd say not to bother with the books after Kevin J. Anderson takes over the writing, because he has a tendency to defecate on continuity, and certainly doesn't write half as well as Frank Herbert. Salvatore has to be mentioned, although I personally don't think he's all that good compared to the others above. His books are still worthwhile, though. Again for science fiction, don't read anything before reading Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers and Fahrenheit 451. Excellent books.
  11. *Shrug* I have a signed copy of Thud! from Terry Pratchett himself, instructing me to duck. I certainly wouldn't sell it on eBay. It is sound advice, in case I am ever caught in a situation requiring such movement.
  12. Kefka is a better Final Fantasy villain than that emo kid Sephiroth will ever be.
  13. If you can't get the credentials to be part of a development team, there's not a lot stopping you from trying to get into the publishing business instead, provided you're good at marketing and all that PR jazz.
  14. Are you sure? Have you actually read the book? It's hardly "just a series of misdirected anger". It's poorly written, sure, but you can't just run about making generalisations about it based on who wrote it.
  15. You can't bloody well just get rid of the symbolism. That's essentially pretending that it didn't happen. We should keep the symbols of the Nazis around, if only to remind us of what can go wrong.
  16. I personally think that was a brilliant exercise in Machiavellian politics. Killing off political enemies doesn't make you a bad leader. In most cases, it makes you a smart one. Look at Stalin. Brilliant guy. All brilliant political moves. Although I don't condone using Wikipedia as a source. Evidence? Oh, wait... So pointing out something that somebody did right is instantly supporting them? Well, in that case, by all means, call me a Nazi. Go on. You're kidding, right? Would you mind looking at how horribly the Great Depression affected the US, UK and Australia? Evidence? You know, tanks needed to be built somewhere, and you're not going to use half-starved Jews to do it before they're even in their camps.
  17. Because the original question wasn't asking whether he was a top bloke or not?
  18. Can you provide a source, instead of, you know, making a baseless non-argument like that? As for Hitler, I must admit that he did an excellent job of getting Germany behind him. Quite apart from his crowd-winning speeches, such as at Nuremberg, he managed to bring to him people who could do that without Hitler having to be present all the time: Leni Riefenstahl and Joseph Goebbels. Without those two practically running his propaganda machine, there was no way that Hitler would have held onto such a large popular base. They were, in the words of David Christian, vital parts of that coercive machinery which is essential to power. He did provide jobs and prompted technological development, and kept people's minds off the depression. He rid Germany of the Weimar Republic that was digging it further into the terms of Versailles - which, by the way, was a ridiculous exercise by the Allies in giving Germany another pretext for war to begin with - and, for the large part, made life better for the German people. The war was, of course, a stupid idea, but it doesn't make Hitler any less of a brilliant leader. Terrible person, to be sure, but that doesn't mean you can just stick your fingers in your ears and yell "LA LA LA CAN'T HEAR YOU, DO NOT WANT!" every time someone so much as points out any of the man's good traits. This is like piling on the negative criticism on the war in Iraq, while ignoring all the good that the troops there are actually doing. Sure, it's largely bad, but you can't ignore that there are good things coming out of it, however small in comparison.
  19. My style involves copious amounts of awesome and win.
  20. I had a similar experience with my lunges back when I still fenced foil. It was a big day for me when my coach told me how to go just that much further without overbalancing or tearing any muscles, and get so much of a reach advantage over my opponents that I was scoring hits more consistently. Feels great, doesn't it?
  21. Is it such a high risk, though, seeing as this contact should be in view of witnesses? There are regulations in place saying that a teacher must not be alone with a student without another teacher present or readily accessible, and without their head of department's permission - and that, at least, makes sense. The other does sound like a lot of overreaction, as far as I'm concerned.
  22. That's... not a strategy game. Well, In fact it is an strategy game, But im out after battle strategy games~ Not, it's a damn god simulator. Saying the Sim- games are strategy games is like saying that Wipeout is a third person shooter.
  23. In keeping with the spirit of the thread, my IQ is x, where x = x + 1. This is why I am extremely well qualified to be your next God Emperor once my plans have come to fruition.
  24. No just 99.999999% of the time. I don't know whether you're serious or making a joke in poor taste. As someone who knows several teachers fitting that description, and intends to become a teacher himself, I find that assumption, even in jest, objectionable. It's attitudes like that that prompt all these ridiculous, overreacting child-centred policies that governments love to put in place. When a teacher can't even give a crying student an empathic hug or even a pat on the shoulder because they might lose their job on account of paranoiac parents and administration, you know there's something terribly wrong with the system.
  25. News flash: being an unmarried 40 year old and working with children does not automatically make you a paedophile.
