  1. Wonderful story-- if we could only return to those days, the last likely being when I joined.
  2. I so totally agree. I don't play RS because it's cutting edge (although the graphics are pretty good for a browser-based game). I play because it's somewhat mindless and fairly relaxing, and I can still chat say, on mIRC while I play. I can also play a little bit and leave it for a little while-- as a dad and husband, my time is more limited. I'm also poor and cheap. If I had the money for it, I'd invest heavily in hardware for PC games. Game consoles are very convenient, but last I checked, PC games can do more and handle more than console games.
  3. I think that would be unfair, for example if it would be for the top 100k players and two players, one ranked 95k and the other 105k, then the one ranked 105k would have to work much harder to keep up then the 95k ranked who could use the guild. I also think just raising the minimal level would be unfair so I think an extra part added to the guild for higher levels would be the best. Don't know what part of that isn't fair. The one ranked 105,000th would have to work harder because he/she would get the reward of being in the guild. The 95,000th person has already worked harder as he/she's already in the top 100k. Unfair would be if someone worked much less than another person and got into the guild and the other person didn't. Being rewarded for having a higher level is not unfair. whoa, boy... *grown-up ranting to follow* Now I think I'm in the top 10k, but to be honest, I just play this game to relax, not to compete. I don't think I'm all that different from the adult gamers out there (albeit not necessarily RS ones), and I just don't have the hours upon hours some people take for this game. I would agree that the guilds should be a fun way to train as well as give a little bennies for your time. I also believe that everyone should have a shot at using them-- with that idea and the way RuneScape has been growing the guilds could very well be limited, eventually, to the players that have been around the longest. Pure garbage, in my opinion.
  4. EDIT: sorry, double post, hit an error on the forums
  5. So I'm a newb because I use the chocolate spawn there? Oh, bummer. Here I was thinking I was getting good at this game... The cooking guild needs an overhaul. ESPECIALLY after farming, what with brewing and whatnot. Rather than having item spawns, have a shop that buys and sells all the cooking ingredients, and have the equiptment spawn. Update it's level too, update what you can do there. Currently, it's useless, but after all the new things cooking got, I wouldn't mind seeing it kicked up a notch. Perhaps even have a food store inside, where you can sell your cooked product? Would be a novel way to level cooking and make a little money, rather than being forced to fish and sel the fish... Novel idea; could you suggest this to the official forums?
  6. No, it wouldn't for the higher levels. The best (and basically only) way to level at higher levels is to buy (or get yourself) some high leveled bones and use the ectonfuntus. So the right clicking bones would just make combat a bit fast...but not really by much. I'm in! Add my name: Outsanity If you can get high lev bones (like dragon) and can use the ectofungus, it probably *is* the fastest way, but I'm of the opinion that every little bit does add up if only it is much much more noticeable at the lower levels. Some areas like chaos druids and such where people go for herblore items, people don't bother with bones-- this would make it more worthwhile to bury them. Sign me in; rs name is the same.
  7. Chocolate cakes and energy potions needed chocolate dust from bars but now we have brewing for the cooking skill, and Chef's Delight needs 4 chocolate dust a pop. I find it frustrating to get chocolate bars-- I usually get them at Wydin's but I suppose I could get them at the cooking store in Yanille-- although they only stock 2 at a time. I found getting them in the cooking guild very slow. I thought, well, maybe the stores could stock more bars and spawn a little faster. But with the release of farming, I'm wondering if we couldn't grow cocoa bean trees and have a way to make chocolate bars (see also http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=299325-- I think making cheese would facilitate making pizza). Edit: Okay, so cocoa bean trees would be considered fruit trees and you could grow them say, at level 47 or so? Halfway between curry and pineapple. I don't really remember how chocolate is made, but I assume the in-game method would mimic the process somewhat.
  8. Not quite. If you're referring to Aggie's, well, I would use that spawn point occasionally and then switch over to Wydin's grocery store where I could buy three at a time. Still pretty slow, and I would usually buy a chocolate bar while I was there since getting chocolate bars also seems to take forever. Making cheese would be great-- I was thinking about it and was really glad someone mentioned it. Now to mention it on the RS forums maybe?
  9. Well, I'm not running RS and it froze up. Giving NOD32 a test run to see how it fares vs. Norton. Got some infected files (spyware and I think a trojan) so other problems are afoot.
  10. Cross-checked regedit with msconfig. I'm running the latest build of MS JVM and this seems to help a *lot*. I'm not sure if I will go with your idea of using bsafe yet, Binyam, but do you (or anyone else) know how the memory use is for AVG? I'm thinking of maybe using this instead because I know everyone agrees that NAV is a memory hog. EDIT: I think I'll disable System Doctor from startup, I think I remember that's a bit of a resource hog too.

  12. Running 1.7 Ghz CPU, 512 MB RAM, Windows XP. NVIDIA GeForce2 MX video card. Mouse pointer keeps freezing up when I play RS, more especially if I'm surfing at the same time. I think I need to upgrade my video card but I'm not sure.
  13. Take notes Crim. An interesting point to note is the man in Port Phasmatys (in the Ghost Ahoy quest) is from the "Eastern Lands" and looks distinctly oriental. I wouldn't rule out the possibility just yet. Indeed; he might well be the place to implement such ideas. Quest start point anyone?
  14. rofl I remember when he was elected. A PhD is a doctorate of philosophy, so it technically gives you the title of "Dr.", even though most people associate it with the MD degree.
  15. I'm guessing it's just getting harder and harder to mine f2p now with the way RS is advertised now... but when I was on f2p last I powermined iron in Rimmington up to level 60, and then went into the guild. I went p2p mostly so I could start fletching, but I have indeed noticed that mining is so much easier.
  16. bumping up a post if that is okay, some new thoughts... Did the Recruitment Drive quest recently, which requires male characters to go to the makeover mage. Well, the makeover was interesting-- my character has always been bald, so I wound up with a bald female character. Well, for some odd reason, I decided I'd have some fun with this. I wondered if it was true if guys treated female characters differently. I mean, I'd heard a lot here and was always hearing about it at home, but I wanted to see if things would change. So, I figured I wouldn't use that voucher just yet. I was also curious as to what the big deal was with the dwarf clothes, so I started the Giant Dwarf quest next and got some on the way. I see what every one was saying. Well, after I got done, I started dyeing a few capes to match with the outfits :) I put on a gas mask to hide the baldness... did get a lot of people asking what that was, one wanted to buy it (of course you can't). Got a few interesting reactions when I didn't wear the mask-- I don't think too many people are taken with bald chicks no matter how becoming that woman in Star Trek: The Movie was. Had some laughs with a few friends, got an extra outfit from one of them, and then eventually decided I would get some hair. I figured I would go all out and look as cute as possible, see if that would get the best possible reaction-- the pigtails have been really popular as of late especially with the way they look with wizard and Santa hats. So I went to the hairdresser. As I'd been discussing this whole process with friends, I asked one about hair colors-- green or pink was suggested. So I tried green. Looked... bad. Went to red. Perfect! Matched all the outfits I had, plus I've always had a thing for redheads, so again I thought it would be amusing to be a redhead hottie. ;) Of course, I looked better now that I had hair, and I agree very much that female characters seem to have more selection in looks-- well, stuff that isn't too expensive anyway or hard to get. Well, the Mrs. didn't like this much-- for one, she hated her character's hair that she wound up with when we first went from rs1 to rs2, so when the free makeover mage week happened, she changed it. She said she wanted to be taken seriously, so she picked the bun style. She mentioned again how she hated the "will you be my gf" requests, and this was one she quoted: him: "will you be my gf?" her: "I'm married" him: "oh" her: "how old are you?" him: "12" her: "I'm 36" Anyway, I told her how amusing I thought it was. I'm not in it for free stuff at all-- although my character is usually broke, I just don't think that's fair-- I just really wanted to see what the difference was, and if people acted nooby, I'd just string 'em along a bit. I figured not many people would buy it with a name like "jaklumen" unless I suppose I said the 'jak' was short for Jacqueline. I suppose I'll change back into a guy when this gets old and especially if people start getting to know my wife's character. I suppose it could be considered a little bit creepy in a way, at least from the way some people have said it, but yeah, it's just a game, so I'll just have some fun for right now :) So far people have said 'hi' a lot more. I got a 'hey hotty- what's up' :P and a 'nice weap' (I usually carry a poisoned dragon dagger) and somewhat more attention overall. Heh. p.s. I hope the women I've made friends with here will share my sense of humor :)
  17. Well, I'm not sure if it's my lousy dial-up connection, but I can't dl a single episode. I've gotten maybe a second or two, but then Windows Media quits and tells me there was a network error :P
  18. thanks I love you too :P
  19. [edit]
  20. Pfft, sure he does ;) Live forever young, spend your life having fun, and push those aside who try to stop you :) HAPPY BIRTHDAY TRAPICAL :D I'm 30 myself and I don't always act sensible... so yeah, don't worry about that necessarily.
  21. well, I don't get cable, but has this been showing in the States? say, Sci-Fi channel?
  22. no idea really.
  23. I'm all for more hairstyles-- more options for freak train events
  24. thing is then you're limited to those who read the board. Someone may have a friend in the list who isn't here The idea has some merit-- it just needs to be regulated
  25. shhhh... you might give somebody the idea cooking seaweed needs a firemaking level requirement
