  1. Thats the thing I was talking about in my post, which some people didnt seem to read. edit:i didnt mean you, i meant people who posted after and restated what I'd said. I wasnt sure which act it fell under, but i was pretty sure it was some of legal jurisdiction. Yep. I read your post and you were dead on, hence I decided to provide some specifics. :)
  2. Moving this to Runescape Discussions & Suggestions.
  3. Just a quick note: I started watching Runescape: A Reality shortly after I went to DSL. Very nice.
  4. http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=378809 Discuss. Actually, that topic is probably the one he was talking about that has been locked I locked it because inappropriate posts kept coming up. I think we're good here. Basically, I think this is just a way for Jagex to avoid lawsuits-- much like the warning labels on various products. Specifically, this has to do with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) which states, "Websites that are collecting information from children under the age of thirteen are required to comply with Federal Trade Commission ( FTC ) Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)." See http://www.coppa.org/
  5. Speaking as a parent, I think it's perfectly fine to monitor Internet use. Don't need my daughter looking at bikini [girls] or the like in the not-to-far-off future, thanks. I like Adblock a lot. However, I do use the Runescape client because I like to have sound, so that reminds me that I need to look for something IE uses.
  6. I've never played WoW (can't afford it) but I did play Rubies of Eventide for a bit-- which has some similar structure. As it has been said numerous times, WoW and RS are completely different games, and both do well for their particular genres. I came to RS because I was playing free java games and was looking for anything I could find-- RS takes more time than the typical java game I was playing (it's kinda like comparing Windows games like Solitaire to general PC games) but it's been nice. The RS2 graphics are also pretty good for a browser-type game. Trust me, there's stuff out there with crappier graphics. With RS, I can play, cruise the forums, chat on IRC... all at the same time if I'm quick about it. I can level as many skills as I want, including ones that don't immediately affect combat training (farming comes to mind, and yes, I like it). I'm a cheapskate, so whenever I upgrade my lousy graphics card I might get Guild Wars, but I like RS just for the sheer fact that I can just do some mindless clicking for the most part and forget about life's troubles for maybe a little bit.
  7. Exploding cigars.
  8. I got a nice start back in 2002 with someone making full bronze armor for me. I've tried to help out when I can... at least when I can be sure it's not begging. Nice folks do exist... you just have to look carefully for them. It's hard to find them just by being in game, though-- a little easier to sort out on the forums. This has been mentioned before, but it's been long enough that the simple "search is your friend" advice should suffice.
  9. To reduce clutter on the board, please post your jokes here. Please remember that all the forum rules still apply, so nothing vulgar, racist, sexist, etc. Jokes here are meant to be fun and amusing, not offensive.
  10. Seasonal Affective Depression > After Christmas Depression Seriously... if coming out of the holidays is a let-down, imagine what it must be like to be lethargic, to be sleeping at weird times, to generally just feeling blah because your circadian rhythms are jonesing for some sunlight?
  11. I tend to agree-- myself when I was in school (a while ago) I needed it to be pretty quiet and distraction free-- didn't do well studying while listening to music or while camping out in the student union building.
  12. I'd like to see your logic there. Although I don't agree with Engl1sh's points, there are lots of evidences that suggest growing up with a male or without a female figure (mom or dad) can psychologically damage children. I have spoken with several therapists, for instance, who deal with a lot of patients whose problem is "induced homosexuality." That is, when someone becomes "homosexual" solely because they are a guy and they grew up without a dad (male attention) and subconsciously desire male attention. Now, I do believe in natural homosexuality (meaning I do believe people can be born *) but I also know that there are people who, after going to therapy are no longer homosexual, because the only reason they believed they were was because something that affected them in their earlier life that needed to be sorted out. Doesn't that mean that they were never homosexual to begin with - that they were psychologically or emotionally hindered? I don't consider that to be homosexuality, in the same way that hyperchondria isn't a physical disease. That's my point exactly. The children are never homosexual - they are emotionally hindered because of not having both a male and a female growing up. :? It's been my experience that it is never as cut-and-dried as this. Cut and dry? I must have no said it correctly. My entire longer version of my post was meant to say 'yes this can happen, but we don't really know how often or always the exact cause. We only know this is the cause occasionally and therefore should not be taken into consideration at this point.' I tried very hard to not make that cut and dry... It was more that I disagree with 'not having both a male and a female growing up'-- both on the point that some dadless (or motherless) kids turn to violence, drugs, or other things, and that there are more reasons than that. "Induced homosexuality"? Is that how the mental health community is reacting to reparative/reorientation therapy?
  13. I must be too old, then.
  14. Yea, Lucid Dreaming, I kept up with that for a while and I started to get a little bit of control over my dreams. After a while I stopped keeping things up and now I don't have them that often anymore. Past few days I've really been dreaming of me being at work. Terrible. I think the only dreams I've ever had good control over was the ones I was flying in. EDIT: they tend to be the ones I remember, too.

  16. It was listed on a free java game website. It was different than the quick games I had played-- but I got hooked back in February 2002. I took a break for a while shortly before RS2. I'd been F2P all that time-- became a member about... last year or so.
  17. Was way too high on standard amount of nitrous oxide when I had my wisdom teeth removed. So... didn't go to sleep.
  18. Lack of exercise and not decreasing food intake to match is what is fattening up the US. Other countries are slowly catching up too. (All 'diets', as the term is commonly used, basically reduce food intake.) For example, folks in rural areas are experiencing record levels of obesity due to a food lifestyle that has not kept pace with technological advancements in farming (i.e., big breakfast with all the trimmings but get to sit on the tractor or combine). This is aside from higher use of heavily processed foods in general, especially in economically poorer areas. It's been said that we live in the Space Age with a Stone Age body. I'm not sure if our bodies will evolve to better process junk food, really.

Your food bill wouldn't be lower-- boys tend to be bottomless pits once they hit their teenage growth spurts. *recalls Mom saying 'you're eating too much' around that time and all the bottomless pit guy teen jokes*

There are some adults-- parents even, I mean-- that are definitely not 'kid people' as I put it, and I wonder why they even have kids. Not everyone is inclined towards children. You have to put up with natural immaturity to raise/take care of kids. I personally love children, even when my daughter does some very annoying things. Good luck in babysitting, btw.

I was never really allowed to sleep in much-- more so now that I have a family of my own. I'll get up just to see my daughter have fun :) To those that follow the tradition of opening gifts on Christmas Eve: When I was little, I got a tradition started of opening up just one gift then. The tradition has stayed on in my home.
  22. http://www.rubiesofeventide.com/ I downloaded it a while back, played it for a little while, but ultimately didn't care for it much. Yes, it's online, and it is considered shareware. There are some perks that come with sending it money, but the game is fairly complete playing for free.
  23. Chinese food. MSG and all.
  24. But I want to buy some sweet ringtones! Oh wait, I don't have a cellphone... Crumble undead xp halved... hmmm... not sure about that myself. Since I can't thieve paladins yet, getting chaos runes is a pain in the butt... I don't much like runecrafting them. The update that made runes more expensive and quicker to restock was a little nice though, I guess. I happen to like faming myself... although yes, it is gardening for the most part. I'm a bit surprised they didn't decide to do wheat, but then since you need a flour mill to grind it, well...maybe not. The tool leprechauns were a very nice update-- freed up some of my bank and now I can stockpile some super compost. Now, if they only stayed in one place... The dairy update was very nice. Pizzas are easier to do now and farming potatoes is a bit more relevant. I hope churn-x/all will be implemented, since churning takes forever anyway...

Anyone mention Dustin Hoffman yet? 'Rain Man' was one of his best.
