  1. Sweet... a use for all those cabbages! I've got bags full of them from farming. Glad I saved them...
  2. Topic has been removed of drift/flames. Please stay on topic. Now, having said that, I don't think this topic should be locked. I think this should continue to be discussed.
  3. This is a good point and one I agree with. I agree with this, too. This reminded me of something... My wife Cimmorene used to be a library page, a long time ago, and she told me of numerous incidents where parents would come up to her and say, "Why is my child reading this book?" and having to remind them that the library did not supervise what their children read. My sister and brother-in-law are librarians, too, and I'm sure they could add comments of their own regarding censorship and parents supervising their children. Sure, the library computers are filtered, but that doesn't mean there isn't a way to get around them-- my brother-in-law told me that much. No, parents need to be aware of what their kids are doing. As a parent, I'll say this much: computer in a bedroom=bad idea. I'll respect GSW's opinion as he has been a staff member in the past. Having said that, I also respect Sunli's concerns. There has been much debate concerning the Internet eventually being regulated as other media are... and not so much if, but when. There is always a possibility that legal entanglements can arise, i.e. civil or criminal lawsuits. One real-life case involving a lawsuit that I can think of is "Cyberspace vs. Engler". For various reasons, I will leave it at that.
  4. Remember one of the rewards for the Garden of Tranquility quest-- the supercompost version? Remember how nice it was to use? Well, although I think it would definitely cheapen the quest reward, I think players should be able to make them. I think, however, that the quest would have to have been done before you could make them, at the very least. However, I can't picture Jagex changing it so you could make them afterwards... hmmm.... Herblore is already tied to farming, so having this be a part of it would not be a stretch. Perhaps at level 42 between prayer pots and super attacks-- using an unused herb such as Ardrigal from the Jungle Potion Quest and papayas (it being a high supercompostable item). I think this might encourage a few more people to start levelling farming since making supercompost this way is a lot faster than using supercompostable items. When you put weeds into the bin, it automatically takes them all. You must put supercompostable items in one by one. Having a supercompost potion ready on hand to change compost into supercompost would definitely speed things up. Suggestions welcomed.
  5. I seem to recall that during the quest, Peer the Seer offered to bank your items for his part of the quest. I know that some people here are very much for improving areas and I think getting Peer to bank items as he did in the quest (deposit only, no withdrawal) would greatly improve the area-- at least in terms of it getting used more often. Rellekka is almost always empty when I go there, and Waterbirth Island has been largely forgotten. I know that you can bank (deposit) items in Tai Bwo Wannai with trading sticks gotten during the Jungle Cleanup quest. I don't think Rellekka should be turned into a location for a mini-game, but perhaps trading to use the privilege might be an idea. The Rellekka merchants deal in coin, as far as I remember, however, so perhaps Peer might charge a flat rate per item (this includes stackable items) magically sent back. Suggestions welcomed.
  6. My thoughts: First, would this be considered medieval? Most fantasy games follow a medieval influence, and I think Runescape follows that. 1. Interesting idea, although see above concerning use of a saw. 2. This might be designed as a mini-game... say, like the new Mage Training Arena. But anything involving speed like axecutting competitions on TV wouldn't work, I think. 3. Nice... I don't think there would be a skill bonus. Behold the gardening boots which give no benefit to farming, and the Cabin Fever quest update... pirate clothes just look good, too. 4. I say no unless the logs were restricted to maybe mahogany and below. Player selling of yews and magics would crash. More specifically, I think it would more likely be limited to things used for POH's and carpentry. It might be similar to the builder's store in Mort'ton, although with the Myreque shortcut to there, would such a store be necessary? If carpentry and POH's involve smithed nails, which I'm guessing they will, then I can see it. I can also see them selling Axeman's Folly there in the manner that Dragon Bitters and Greenman's Ale are sold in Yanille. 5. We just got a new agility course... although maybe the high-level, well-established players might clamor for it to be a higher level requirement than the Werewolf course. Going back to the mini-game, a mini-game involving agility might work. See #2. Logrolling, specifically. You gain a small amount of agility xp staying upright on the rolling log. You can fail getting on, and you can fail falling off. Either way, you'd have to swim back to a dock, and take some hp damage. I'm not sure I can see this expanding to an agility course, however.
  7. This idea was part of a satirical piece somewhere where Guthix supposedly jokes that his invention of the portable anvil would destroy the Runescape economy. (This was back when smithing was a significant part of the RS economy.)
  8. I agree that the system would confuse a lot of people and be very difficult to explain on Tutorial Island. I know nothing about Java programming, but I'd imagine this code would take up a lot of bandwidth. Runescape is a memory hog enough as it is. You want it to be worse? I see this being more realistic if Runescape was no longer a browser game (i.e. on a CD or DVD you pay for instead) and if it was marketed and designed to an older audience. I'm not saying I dislike the idea. But I can't see it implemented into the game as it stands now and as complicated and likely memory intensive as it is. p.s. I like your Corpse Bride avvy, Topaz! p.p.s. why is uk_swat listed twice?
  9. I was thinking of this exact thing, too. Bob is the only one that I can recall selling hatchets (old RSC term, I know) at all, and they only range from bronze to steel. I remember quite a while back getting a mithril hatchet from someone giving them away and being quite pleased because I couldn't buy it elsewhere and I couldn't make it yet. Something that people are probably forgetting because they are f2p or most people consider it out of the way: mining picks are also sold in Keldagrim, near the blast furnace. Besides that, the p2p quest "Between A Rock..." gives you a rune mining pick as a reward! Repairing axes and picks would be a bad idea. Fliers would become utterly worthless, and there would be no reason to go to Bob or Nurmof. I would be for supporting smithing picks, but having them be only 1 bar each, and considering both the availability of picks in the shops and the few drops that exist in the game, I'm going to have to say no. I would be for implementing more drops with a greater variety of picks, but in all likelihood they would be P2P monsters.
  10. *chuckle* okay, their salads are a few of the things I do like. As far as my daughter, well, typical Happy Meal food is just great with her. oh yeah-- they used to have adult Happy Meals, didn't they? Salad. Bottle of water. Step counter for a cool toy. Hehehehe.
  11. hehe, nice blast from the past.
  12. Not exactly a prequel since An American Tale came first. I remember when E.T. was released to the Spokane Theaterhouse (not sure if it's still around, but it was an restored old moviehouse) and it was quite an experience as the audience was very responsive... it was one of those rare moments where the audience responds spot on at all the right times. I think the movie I most liked as a kid was Tron. I made a point of it to get it on DVD recently. Interestingly enough, one of the stars and one of the supporting actors were in the Babylon 5 series- Bruce Boxleitner (he was Tron) and Peter Jurasik (he was Crom).

Right on... I remember watching Wayne's World 2 when Wayne, Garth, and the guys were spying on Wayne's girlfriend and saying 'Hey, they look like the Village People!' right as they were running into the gay bar. Who knew the Naked Indian was going to show up?
  14. Ummm... okay. A friend of mine said once that WoW really got his gf out of a depressive slump recently. Personally, I favor face-to-face interactions compared to online ones, but hey, if it works for someone I know with WoW, I figure it can work the same with RS.
  15. Right now, I'm really enjoying a song called "Dying Beauty" by a new darkwave artist in Portland called James D. Stark.

I suppose I should eventually find these on DVD... When a local video store (which is now closed, ironically) started selling their VHS tapes on the cheap I got a copy of each. They're both good, at least for the time they were released as they look a little dated now, but I think Bogus Journey was the better of the two in my opinion.
  17. I would, too, but I have a daughter who is about preschool age. I can't stand 95% of their food. I'm more of a hot/spicy sauce man, myself. Chipotle habanero, chipotle mayo, Tabasco, etc. so I don't pay much attention to ketchup flavor.
  18. My favorite is those Jelly Belly castoffs they call Belly Flops or Bumble Beans. Or a nice chocolate bridge mix... I love the bulk section at our grocery store
  19. Gah, don't remind me!
  20. Juna is a she. :)
  21. *chuckle* I'm level 80 myself *braces for the comments that might bring* and I generally try to be helpful if I can. My patience runs a little thin if the player gets demanding and rude, but I do what I can. I have no problems ignoring someone who is being exceptionally obnoxious, but I'm usually quick with an answer if a question is asked, or if I have something that is being asked for and I think I can spare it, I'll trade for it or maybe give it away. The other day someone asked me for a large quantity of lobbies in Zanaris. I was able to spare that, but I had to really coax him to trade him something for it, and something that I could use. He offered some runes, so I asked for some I needed, asked him to not include ones I didn't, guessimated what they were worth in lobbies, and gave him that.
  22. very nice article, Duke. I was rather blown away looking at the time and effort you've put into this-- the graphs made this article even more interesting to read than the last-- and the last one was quite a read, too. I started in February 2002 and I remember a few things about rares and holiday items during my time here. I remember Santa hats being a really big deal at first, and some scams involving them. One was a two-person scam involving one person claiming if you changed your pass to 'santa' you would get a santa hat, with one person explaining and one person suddenly wearing a Santa when he claimed he changed it. I had a discussion with a friend regarding rares and their symbol of wealth (and how we didn't put much stock in it). This was about the time bunny ears came out as the first non-tradeable holiday item. LOL he didn't much like rares but he liked his bunny ears. I'd never played on a holiday before, and I figured the Halloween when scythes came out wouldn't be a big deal. I kicked myself later when RS2 came out with random events. If hoods became a part of the shade robes and scythes were suddenly tradeable, I can just imagine dozens of kids running around trying to look like the Reaper... I recently had some fun trying out a number of non-armor clothes in the game and taking screenshots for um, hehe, posterity. Some people still think I have a bank full of clothes, although all I really kept (save some Zammy robes) was a prince outfit, a pirate hat, and a pair of pirate boots. So if I ever got interested in rares very much, it'd be with all the wearable items. Personally, I'd rather see Treasure Trails expanded for new clothing items than to have holiday drops as they were originally conceived come back-- although I have no idea what Jagex thinks about Treasure Trail item prices and if they would really want to do that...
  23. *chuckle* my avatar is hardly original or unique, but I think people remember me for it regardless. the signature isn't very original- it was pieced together from another picture, but it does explain my unique username somewhat ;) When I have the money saved up, I'll pay a sigmaker for something. I agree that the stat sigs are convenient, but they have become very trite. I have seen them used for quick comparison (i.e. 'here's yours and here's mine) outside the sig line, though, and that's probably a better use for them.
  24. I've probably said this before in some way, but Bubsa is the Weird Al Yankovic of the RS world.
