  1. Thread cleaned by me. I was just about to post something along similar lines, but even though this topic was bumped, I will post it here. Those of you who are familiar with WoW know that there is a tailoring skill. Okay, let's recount suggested materials (and a few others) and their current uses. Wool cloth- used in Regicide Bear fur, grey wolf fur- can be obtained from killing bears and wolves or stealing from the Ardougne fur stall. Grey wolf fur can be traded at the Fine Clothes shop, Baraek's (fur stall in Varrock), and the Ardy fur stall. Bear fur can be traded at Baraek's and the Ardy fur stall. Silk- can be bought at the Al-Kharid and Ardougne silk stalls, and Thessalia's. Can be stolen from the Ardy silk stall. Can be combined with Karamja rum to make cleaning cloths, which remove poison from weapons. Fine cloth- Obtained in the shade lair in Mort'ton for splitbark armor. Dyes- obtainable from Aggie (for the primary colors) and Orowen in the Clothing Shop in Lleyta. Pink dye can be obtained from Betty in Port Sarim after Hand in the Sand quest. Used to dye highwayman capes (provides some crafting xp) and used for a few quests. Still reading? On to the suggestions: Suggestions: This could go 2 ways- expand options at Aggie so that multiple dyes can be purchased, or allow players to make their own dyes with the materials Aggie lists. Therefore, dye making would be level controlled depending on what level the ingredients can be farmed at- yellow dye first (onions), then red dye (redberries), then blue (woad leaves). Orange, green, and purple respectively would follow based on the previous levels. Not sure where to place pink, but I think it would be next since you use redberries and whiteberries in Hand in the Sand- and these would be the likely ingredients. Cloth- Wool cloth is first, and is obtainable weaving 4 balls of wool on the loom outside Falador, as in the Regicide quest. Bear fur and then grey wolf fur would be next, based on their prices at Baraek's and ease of obtaining them, although I know grey wolf fur can be obtained quickly by using a cannon atop White Wolf Mountain. This could be solved somewhat by having different wolves drop different color furs- i.e. wolves on White Wolf Mountain drop white wolf furs, Dire wolves dropping another color, etc. and the different color furs would be used at different levels. Silk would be somewhere in the midst of this, probably after grey wolf furs. Fine cloth would be the upper levels as it is more difficult to obtain. Dyeable cloth (wool, silk, possibly fine cloth) would yield clothing at different levels based on the dye used. Tailoring would use needles and thread as they are for crafting ranger armor. I do not suggest simply folding this skill into crafting as the suggestions I have described so far are plenty for a new skill, and crafting has so much in it already. What can be tailored? This is tricky. To make it a desirable skill, I think that we might consider making mage gear available. This would probably be tailored with silk, and it would be enchanted to equal blue mage gear, and possibly gnome/Canafis gear (although I know there is not high demand for the latter). Therefore, I suggest at least one new enchant spell for mage clothing only. Mage gear may not be feasible, so perhaps it might be best to limit the skill to producing clothing not obtainable in shops, treasure trails, holiday events, and so on. Therefore, shirts, trousers, coats, etc. would be the basis for makeable clothing. Again, these suggestions for tailoring may be streamlined into the crafting skill, but I believe it could work as a stand-alone skill. Problems: Gold farmers may harvest materials needed-- probably most likely thieving silk. It may be an inevitable problem that will require more aggressive random events for thieving, and for any other skill used by autoers and the like.
  2. I've always wondered why there weren't any chat channels like there is in other MMORPGs. That might be workable. Group pms, however, I think, would be a bad idea, even if they were limited to the existing friends lists. Can you imagine how badly pmods, top players, and some others would get spammed?
  3. It's definitely Zone Alarm- I suspect it's the culprit that is killing animation.
  4. I am not sure why, but I cannot see any Imageshack links for forums. I suspect it is ZoneAlarm but I cannot examine more closely with the free version, I think. I'll post a HYT log if needed.
  5. The U.S. has been off the gold standard for years. The dollar is backed by faith in the government.
  6. Agreed. :D Give the kid a break. Sometime nights I can't sleep very well, like now. I'm in the PST time zone, too. Add me if you like. Okay, I can agree speaking from experience, but then I have a sensitive circadian rhythm that's easily disrupted. On the one hand, there are things that are nice doing when it's late here, like abyss runecrafting, but on the other hand, it is easier to find people on when it's daytime in the US (no offense to Europe, Asia, and Australia). Yes, sleep when you can and should. Sleep is good. But if you can't, there's a good chance I'll be on, at least here if not in the game.
  7. I think the Arzinian mine in Keldagrim is the only way to go. The Karamja rocks next to the dungeon are nice, but if your mining level is good, you'll mine them all faster than they can respawn. The unlocked ring of Charos will persuade the boatman to take 3 ores instead of 5 on a full inventory, and my experience has been that generally you will recover any energy you used up running over there when you start mining again. If you are going to mine gold for long stretches of time, especially for smelting with goldsmithing gauntlets, I'd recommend this place over any other. It's faster, and cheaper too (since I know some Karamja gold miners use the cart to Shilo).
  8. A Guthix Girl, eh? I support Guthix so I suppose I could add you :) I see you posted on the Tip.It P2P Homeworld/HYT sticky. Going okay for you? Go to the next TET event. It is always a good way to meet Tip.It members.
  9. Some minds must just think alike. :) Can't say as I've ever been to world 115. I'm always on either 22, 28, 41 or 46. Must be as there is another topic on this. I'll have to try this out soon.
  10. I did a little research and although I am not sure this applies to all of their giftcards (I looked at their MetaBank giftcard), there is a handling fee of $5.95 and it appears that purchasing a giftcard for a year's worth of RS members is the best option, as there is a $2.50 fee each month after that. I am not sure what is available outside the US. I have heard that buyer must beware of pre-paid Visa cards because there are hidden fees. But the mall giftcard looks like a good option as its fees overall are less than the cost of other Worldpay options. And it may be easier then coaxing parents to pay with their credit/debit card because kids can pay for the amount in the giftcard-- even better if they pay the fee. As Jagex grows, I would not be surprised if they offer gift cards somewhere in the future, much like the ones offered for World of Warcraft and some other MMORPGs.

  12. Most people who buy rune essence make runes and sell them for a profit so it would be a waste of time to save 30gp ea off the runes your crafting when you could be runecrafting and making alot more. That's more of an issue if you are merchanting runes. Definitely, I think people buy essence because it's a time saver and still turns a profit, especially with high-demand runes, or if the crafter has a high enough RC to make at least 2 to 3 times the runes from the essence. If, however, you are broke and are making runes for yourself, I don't think ess mining is that big a deal. I think most everyone mined a little essence when they first started runecrafting, at least when they were lower leveled all around and didn't have many ways of making money. Buying raw materials is just a way of shifting money around from some skills to another. There's always some other money-making skill involved, and I'll include merchanting with that.
  13. I started in Feb. '02. It's largely a time investment.
  14. You eat a raw Karambwan. You are poisoned! Oh dear you are dead!
  15. These topics begging for p2p stuff on f2p are getting very old. the ultimate, final word on F2P vs. P2P- please read Locked.
  16. Due to some queries here and elsewhere on this topic, this sticky has been made. It has been positively confirmed by Jagex that the Ring of Wealth does not increase chances of getting a clue. It merely increases the chance of getting a rare or uncommon drop.
  17. Moved to Clues, Clues, Clues (and Random Events). Quick rules reference: In other words, I'll allow it, and hopefully this will generate more discussion within a more specific forum.
  18. There was a topic on this a while ago. I see nothing wrong with spending some cash to save a little time. There are some raw materials that just take too long to gather. Wool is one of them-- it takes forever to shear sheep for wool in mass quantities. I suppose I could take shears to the pen just outside of Lumby, glory to Draynor, and walk back, but the time invested vs. the money spent at the store in Ardougne-- well, it's cheaper to buy wool balls at the store. Flax for bowstrings and rune essence are a little different-- you can gather flax in Lletya and spin it reasonably fast in Seers, and ess is fast if you have access to the Magic Guild. But yet people spend money on bowstrings and ess all the time. I see a greater case for spending money on skills than saving up for rares (especially as they are so high now) but your mileage may vary.
  19. Locked upon request of the author.
  20. I don't remember it being stated like that specifically, but having it this way might increase the likelihood of it being implemented. If I remember right, this was designed with regular bones in mind, which many people just leave behind. Bones above big bones are never left behind that I can tell- just too valuable.
  21. Post cleaned of some minor drift. Here are a few suggestions of my own: You may want to explain how the Ignore list works for blocking annoying users. I do not recommend telling people you blocked them, personally. Better to just do so silently. I don't think it would hurt to comment that it's annoying and/or against the rules, however.
  22. Here's a question everybody might like answered: If you lose your ring (intentionally or unintentionally) can you get it back from Diango or some other NPC?
  23. Yes. Please note that the link is not at freewebs. It is at freewebpage.org, which is a different domain.
  24. Mully, that's hilarious! I'm definitely going to have to remember that story. Question on topic: Is this problem equally found on f2p and p2p, or is more on one side than the other? I have to admit, I haven't seen this a lot myself. Lucky me, I guess. Whoopee.
  25. Hmmm... I was F2P on rs1, and on RS2 for a little while. This is something I've thought a bit on. The numerous 'F2P update' posts are a slippery slope because the idea is still to make the free game enticing but lacking enough for an incentive to pay for membership. F2P is generally paid for by the advertisements. If everyone was clicking on the ads (those that were safe, anyway) then Jagex wouldn't have needed to clarify their stance on blocking ads, much less need to even mention it. I wouldn't be surprised if the F2P game was a loss leader of sorts. I hadn't thought of maples, but I do remember well my confusion when I looked over my skill lists to discover it was something that could be used in F2P but was in member areas. I don't think it would be too much trouble to add maples, although I suspect that they will be a very few and eventually some folks will complain about the trees being constantly used. I have thought about wilderness capes quite a bit and if they were implemented, there would have to be more options on the members side. The clans would then need to demonstrate that those extra options would be a strong incentive for their f2p members to pay for membership, above and beyond the extra goodies P2P PKers get-- since it has been argued that wildy capes are most useful to clans, although many clans do their PKing in F2P worlds. As for RSC, many of us perceive that it is a game Jagex is abandoning so they can concentrate their efforts on the existing game (RS2). I understand their reasoning for making RSC members only- autoing on RSC has been a discussion for quite some time. But in general, my guess was that they did it simply for the fact as it stands, alone: RSC is now a membership perk, and you will have to pay to use it. Therefore, it's no longer the money drain that it may have been before. As for any RSC additions, I have discussed with a few people adding an RSC server that brings back the PK anywhere game that veteran users remember. My thought was to bring back the original code, i.e. it would be PK anywhere within the original area of the game, with no wilderness and no member worlds. I doubt that they would do so, however, as another feature listing combat level of players was not implemented at that time. More likely, they would modify the RSC game as it stands for PK anywhere, which would include wilderness *and* member worlds-- and I am not sure Jagex wants to invest time and effort into that. I was not a player until '02, so I am obviously not qualified to really discuss this option objectively. My guess is that member players would have to demonstrate a growing demand for such a server, and even then, I still don't think Jagex wants to work on RSC anymore.
