new f2p skill!!!
I think that's it, spot on. Now, about the Security Stronghold: Jagex used to have an advertising agreement with Real to feature Runescape on RealArcade. Most of the RealArcade ads had security tips as well as ads for members. I was still F2P at the time, but I did take a look at the game on RealArcade when I tried it out. I preferred to login at the main Jagex site because RealArcade only listed a few high-traffic servers. But I thought the advertising campaign was brilliant. For whatever reason, Jagex decided that advertising with Miniclip was more profitable. But there have never been any advertisements like that since, which I think may have been part of the reason the Security Stronghold update was released-- and quite a bit of bennies in it being a F2P game release. Now personally, I think Jagex should have made sure Wildtangent cleaned up its rep before agreeing to an ad deal with them, but that's another story. The Security Stronghold does offer some additional benefits for members, such as dust rune drops and clue scrolls. So there is a very small incentive to come to members there. I would be very disappointed if Jagex decided to add fletching to F2P RS2. The *primary* reason I joined members was that I was too cheap to pay for arrows, and getting arrows from monster drops was very slow. Looking back, I could have been fine with iron arrows, but the first thing I did was fletch shafts and headless arrows until I could fletch steel. My rule of thumb is: 1. Does a F2P update entice players to come to P2P? If it has additional features in P2P, then I'd say yes. 2. Does it improve the balance of the game while still meeting #1? The additional bows and arrows were given to balance the PK triangle, supposedly. Many players (usually P2P coming to F2P) still dislike F2P range, however. 3. At the very least, will it improve customer service? The Knowledge Base and the Security Stronghold were added (I'm almost positive) to address issues and queries that CS was going over again and again. My observations are limited at present so I would suggest talking to a prominent F2Per like Lim_Dul or our very own Admin Forsakenmage for more feedback (but please, don't spam their pms).

5 new spells and 2 new runes
Call lightning and chain lightning (which sounds like what two of your ideas are) are old D&D spells that have been used in MUDs for a long time, so I can picture them being implemented. However, we need information on how 'lightning' or 'shock' runes would be runecrafted. That presents a real stumbling block to the idea as bloods and souls have not been made craftable yet, and the abyss would have to be re-coded to allow for a new rune... to be consistent. Bouzahelp would have to be restricted to PCs, no question, as I have seen chaos in people summoning powerful mobs in the old MUDs. However, at that point, it would basically be a teleother spell.

Top 10 New RS Ideas
Moved to RuneScape Discussions & Suggestions. While bling bling on fishing eq would be fun, I don't really think it would be implemented. I also think harpoons and fishing rods are a bit small to pixelate clearly-- of course, if you could provide a good example, I'll put my foot in my mouth. What would this be used for? Can you explain a little more? There must be a reason why they fixed it, aside from it being a bug... As in underwear? or do we get to fight Rocky Balboa? No. I think Defenders are a good implementation of a dual wield idea. I think Jagex is going to stick to the old MUD idea where the second hand is basically a smaller parry weapon, rather than the old Diablo II barbarian akimbo. There are more games with "two gun mojo" than melee dual wield anyway, as there is a historical Old West equivalent: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akimbo_%28gaming%29:

Best Cars!
I understand those cars are as fast as greased lightning... seriously. Please resize the really big pictures, though... hard to see them without a lot of scrolling and it is a bandwidth drain. EDIT: similar topic merged to this one with a few edits

New Quest
Chuck Norris was awesome before Chuck Norris jokes. Chuck Norris was awesome before he was a Texas Ranger. Chuck Norris is so awesome, TV ratings and box-office records would not do him justice or give him enough fame. But I don't think the idea would fit the game.

Monkey/warriorz Banned again.
You'd be right. Take it up with the Admin Team, but do NOT discuss bans publicly on the forums.

People These Days...
While this would fit more on the Rants board, it isn't a well-written rant, either. Contrary to some opinion, the Rants board isn't really for venting, but for discussing well-constructed arguments. It's all in the sticky.

lking 4 hawt bf! lulz 226 names
The reporting system is a tailpipe solution, basically. It may work for players getting out of hand with the bf/gf advertisements, but it's not really effective for crude names. Plain and simple, Jagex really needs to consider a filter at character creation. Here is a screenshot of the username screen (please excuse the poor quality): I am not sure of bandwidth limitations at Jagex but since I'm sure it doesn't actually have to be a part of the Java code, it shouldn't be hard to implement. Yes, it would have to be fine-tuned, but... what's so hard about choosing a new name a few times? I would like Jagex also to extend the option they have offered to players to change their nickname if needed... what happened to that? Please consider adding these points to your petition (as long as your signed people agree) and you will have my full support.

I'm Wondering, Why are There Censors?
I think Friz is fairly spot on here. Most of this has to do with COPPA and similar laws. I'm sure that www. and any censor evasions there have been filtered to avoid players checking out a URL that may give them a keylogger or a virus. I think Jagex should look at a filter with more powerful capabilities (if they aren't already, and if such exists for a Java application) because some very benign words get filtered-- the latest being the s on the end of "'s". The censor is English-based, and players speaking languages other than English may find that their everyday words are filtered, while profanities are not. I have noticed this with Spanish. Craven_Image said in another thread (he attends a university where Jagex recruits) that versions are planned in other languages, but I'm not sure if that will clear up the problem in that regard.

If you had J-Mod powers, would you use them?
I tend to disagree that cheats always make a game boring faster. I got the cheats and walkthroughs for Planescape: Torment (old old game, yes, I know) because then it was easier to uncover all the storyline possibilities. The game plays more like a story than other RPGs. If you're playing a FPS, MMORPG, or another game (be it console or PC) where things tend to repeat themselves, then yeah, cheats get old fast and I think they are completely unethical for online games, especially as scripts are used for gold farming. Even if 'bots' are allowed (as they were in an old MUD I played), they drain the game of a community experience. Back on-topic: J-mod powers are there for testing. I was told that this was a large part of the reason why J-mod PCs had PK ability removed.

Remove post counts
It seems like a good idea, but would have to be researched and carefully considered. For the short-term, I voted for keeping them but having them appear only in the profile. It removes some of the incentive to spam for post count alone, in my opinion.

Hackings
Locking this topic for right now. In general, we can't offer effective advice except to contact Jagex CS and get things sorted out with them. Make sure you have your agreement numbers-- they carry a bit more weight than password recovery questions. Jagex can handle this-- we can't, really. Drop me or another mod a line on how things go, and then we'll go ahead and unlock the topic.
