Then don't, unless that 10% is crucial. XP traces back to 2000 and NT 4.0, if I'm not mistaken. My understanding of what the difference with Vista is that it will support 64-bit architecture... but I think there may be a version of XP that does that. I think you present a very strong argument for GNU/Linux, actually, lack of support and documentation aside. You choose what you need. That's what my father is using-- and the tech at the computer company he bought it from said that it was probably a better way to go since the OS was indeed more stable than the newer OSes.

I'm still trying to find a copy of Windows 2000 for a friend of mine. He had Windows ME, which most people agree is pure rubbish, and then things went belly up-- his computer continually restarts. He is poor, and his current system *cannot* handle XP. Now I know most of you are thinking, "why would he have a crap piece of a machine to not run XP?" As I said, he can't afford it. A lot of people can't afford the latest OSes. Just did an Ebay search for Windows 2000- all I could find was a new copy of Windows 2000 Professional, but you might be able to find someone who can use an older OS if you look hard enough.

Topic has been cleaned of censor abuse. Do not try to bypass the censor or your post will be edited or removed.

  6. Moved to Help & Advice per author's request.
  7. Jagex needs to offer those players an opportunity to change their name. Obviously, I doubt they will go back and change them per se their stated policy, but if the censor is effective, it shouldn't be much of a problem. I highly doubt that most players who would voluntarily change their names would change it to something equally offensive, again. We have a longtime player on Tip here who has already said that he feared he'd be banned for his RSN.
  8. I think it's a reasonable tradeoff. See Q & A number 1. Better filtering code would overcome some of this, and character strings need not be restricted by wild cards.
  9. Player's banks are all stored on their player file, so any elements of this idea involve increasing that file. Some of that file is saved for updates, basically. So it is unlikely that this idea will be implemented without raising memory usage due to the increased file size.
  10. Thread cleaned. Blackarch2, "blog" is short for "web log", so if you're going to bump the thread, post a *log* of your progress. I recommend you read the following sticky: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=491213
  11. I've bought regular ess and accepted some in a trade for use with elemental runes. I don't buy pure ess yet- merely mine it for my own use at the moment, so all in all, it's a fairly good bargain.
  12. Ok, I got information on this idea some time ago from a reputable source, and received permission to share it: Bank space is linked to a player file, which currently has a set limit. A certain amount of memory is allocated to player data related to new quests, new areas, etc. When bank space is increased, it takes away from that allocation. You may ask, "then why can't the size of the player file be increased?" I don't know the answer exactly, but I expect it would increase system memory requirements to a degree. Runescape is one of the few MMORPGs that is not software supported, nor relies on a CD for certain files. Java will take all the memory it can, so users with lower system specs will have to upgrade. Low detail is currently designed to accomodate these users (all arguments against sounds and some MIDI being incorporated aside). You may ask, "then why doesn't Jagex release some CDs or offer a download?" I suspect that such would make the problems we have with private servers worse.

  15. Thread has been cleaned a bit. Please avoid comments that seemingly excuse those who break Jagex (and in turn, our) rules.
  16. Apologies for bumping up an old topic. Not many, apparently. wiseTSM had a few, and then Kat (Mrs. C) made some for me. Fewer of all that were pixel sigs, so props from the resident "pirate". What graphics editor do you use? I'm not really a sig artist, but I researched your other pixel work, and I think this is probably the best so far. I also researched the comments for the respective threads, and I think if you had a good editor that you're comfortable with, your work might go easier. Based on a few of those comments, I think you might post some of your freehand work, for comparison and further feedback.
  17. Moved to Help & Advice. Attack 60 is required for dragon weapons (defence 60 for dragon armor), and I believe you must indeed do the quests for dragon long, dragon dagger, dragon battleaxe, and dragon mace.
  18. This isn't a fake-- if he wants to post fakes then he may do so in another post.
  19. It's possible he's talking about the advertising on the game site. But until that can be clarified, this is going to be locked.
