  1. Smoking was never my vice of choice, but I think I understand addiction from my own experiences. Willpower is not enough. It just isn't. Those of you who think it is-- I doubt you have been deep in addiction. One thing that I think is important is to get rid of the source of the temptation. Get rid of all your cigarettes. Wash your clothes of the cigarette smoke and change your toothbrush (it will have traces of the nicotine); repeat every time you have a relapse. I have been told that eating grapefruit is a natural alternative to anti-smoking gums (I don't mean nicotine ones specifically)-- supposedly it makes the cigarette taste bad. Don't hang around your friends when they smoke-- better yet, keep company with folks who don't smoke. N.A. might be an option, although I'm sure you might be in a weird position given that tobacco is a legal drug. I've had good experiences with the 12 Steps and I wouldn't dismiss working them right out of hand. If that isn't your bag, give Rational Recovery a look.
  2. Ditto on what others have said. Give about 3-5 years, and you'll fill out. Body type is also a factor, and your training should be influenced by your type. You could be an ectomorph (ruler-shaped) for all I know-- if that turns out to be the case even after you fill out a little, I'd say enjoy it and don't worry about putting on mass. Running, jogging, swimming, and track sports will come easier to you than some others.
  3. I have some friends and a brother-in-law who does this, but it never really interested me much. Classic old school wargaming, though.
  4. Indeed. I've have a really good print done and frame it.
  5. Oh, it does. Was just talking on the phone today to an Aussie friend that loves American accents (British too, actually). Ok, that's not technically the 'other way' you were speaking of, but I've heard a few vague anecdotes, too.
  6. See ya. Sorry I couldn't make your "Runescape's Best Dresser" contest. Best of luck to you on de-stressing.
  7. I long to do what I need to do to get and be licensed to drive a nice touring motorcycle (BMW, Honda Goldwing, whatever) and take a tour of all the States, particularly the ones I haven't seen yet. I've discussed my political stance with weez; he has at least a vague idea where I stand. What pisses me off is the current trend of political polarization. People marching to the left and the right... was Clinton really that bad? God forbid that the major political parties be centrist :P Still, it's what I know, basically. I live in Washington, mostly where I am now but I've been to the coast and back. Cross the Cascades and political viewpoints flip-flop... we've occasionally been compared to California. But no, I like it here. Particularly here in the Pacific Northwest.
  8. 1st and 3rd season Sliders, especially 1st. The original cast was perfect. When they started messing with it replacing people... ehhh. Alias- I used to watch this show but I gave up when I realized that I wouldn't keep up with the storyline. From what little I have seen of Lost, it looks like a great show. It's done by the same people that do Alias. Babylon 5 Wonder Woman (with Linda Carter) The Incredible Hulk (with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno) Battlestar Galatica (the original series) Buck Rogers in the 24th Century (with Gil Gerard) (you can tell I'm a sci-fi/fantasy geek)
  9. For those that don't know (I'm gathering that most do), suffrage is the right to vote.
  10. I have heard about gold farmers for other games in Eastern Europe, so the incidence is not limited to China alone. But yes, I've seen them when I was last at the Varrock east bank on a f2p world.
  11. Ack. At the risk of repeating myself, I've wondered how things would balance out if they were poisonable.
  12. There is a little part of me that wishes Jagex would renege and make Claws poisonable... hmmm... Dragon Claws?
  13. Thread cleaned by me.
  14. Exactly. There is a risk of running into a predator or someone who otherwise wishes to do you harm if one is too free with personal information.
  15. When a friend was showing me WoW, he mentioned the roleplay only servers. I don't think it could be implemented on RS the way the servers are set up right now.
  16. Welcome, vlammetje. We have plenty of Dutch-speaking players here, including the master merchant Duke Freedom. Now, do a search containing "older players" and the like. There are a few more threads besides the one axel mentioned about this topic :) Enjoy-- there are quite a few adults here who play the game-- and are forum regulars, too! I'm 32 and my wife Cimmorene is 37; we have a daughter coming up on her 4th birthday.
  17. Ok, now I'm letting the cat out of the bag... Uloveme is the husband, his wife plays the guy character.
  18. I can agree with that, as I am doing just that. (The real-life thing was about 7 1/2 years ago.)

Life Scout here. There was a divide between the boys that got Eagle with their Eagle dads helping them, and the guys that really couldn't care less, so I floundered after a while trying to get to Eagle on my own. If my health was better and I had my adenoids and tonsils removed, then I wouldn't mind being involved again as an adult leader-- I could try for the Silver Beaver and Bronze Wolf awards, then. But mainly I would love to do some backcountry hiking and camping again.
  20. Pick it apart as you wish. I would have you know that I do go into the wildy (right now it's just abyssal runecrafting) fully understanding I may be killed, but it might cause those pure mages PKing at the Zamorak Mage think twice because then they have something to lose.
  21. I'm going to say my peace and then this gets locked. I've been a F2Per for a while. From 2002 to I think the latter half of 2004. I joined because I wanted to fletch my own arrows, and I did just that when I first logged on to a member world. I'm going to guess that a majority of F2P whiners have a common thought: 'Mom/Dad/whoever won't let me get members!" Get a job. Make an impassioned argument that you can play as a member but won't neglect things like chores, schoolwork, or even just plain exercise. Make your case how Runescape is much cheaper than most MMORPGs and that it is a small investment for a little entertainment. I am a parent. Granted, my child is far from being old enough to play but I can understand concerns that an online game is going to be a time-waster. I remember that it was easier to come and go when I was F2P, even forget about it for a little while. This game is addictive. Any little incentive to get away from that isn't a bad thing, in my opinion. Otherwise, pay the money and enjoy. The only thing that I can see f2pers getting besides new random events is team capes and team speak. Many clans that have p2p members hold their PKing on f2p worlds. If clans were able to demonstrate that this would draw in new memberships, then I might see it happening. I am guessing this is still considered a membership benefit. Locked.
  22. Not necessarily if the second staff was using runes at the same time.
  23. I'm just recalling how RSC doesn't have equipment slots-- you click on the equippable item in your inventory (square is in red when equipped) to wear it. My quick observation is that 28 spaces should still be plenty. I would be more in agreement if this was about bank space- that is needed, at least for members. I do wish, however, that I could wear an eye patch and a pirate hat at the same time
  24. Or a follower of the Tao? Speaking of Bill Teach, I'd really like an outfit like the pirates in various random events wear.
  25. Me, probably. I'm thinking carefully and I'm not sure I even came close in rs1. Different topic: I thought it interesting that he said the game was too forum-based. *shrug* I rather like things that way-- as this is a browser game, why not rather forum-based? However, I can see his point with no division of the chat.
