  3. oh btw, I do agree firemaking needs more work- the lanterns and mining hats are something, but not really enough.

  5. N Y, this could really help a lot N N
  6. It's been suggested before that dueling anywhere should be brought back and I think that would work better than selective PKing. Trust me, people would whine about those who didn't choose to PK outside of the wilderness... you'd have noobs taunting you all the time. A duel challenge would be a bit more threatening than demanding someone turn on selective PK. (I've seen this idea at work in a text MUD, so I can guess how it'd go here although things were different in a number of ways)
  7. Yep, bad idea. There's been suggestions to modify Tutorial Island, and I think this might be more effective, although I agree it shouldn't take forever to get off; but just to be sure newbies are better educated about the game.
  8. Hmmm, I hadn't thought of this. Finally, a use for crafting beer glasses :)
  9. To be honest, I don't think the economy of rares is going to get changed anytime soon-- it's just too firmly entrenched; too many people want them to have the value they do. Although I thought it was an interesting idea to make them a very rare treasure trail reward. Unfortunately I missed the Halloween holiday drop when JaGeX apparently decided that the scythe would be the last item dropped and all future holiday items would now be given by temporary NPCs as well as continue to be untradable. A shot at bunny ears and the scythe would be nice, but I'm not terribly worried about it. Oddly enough, I'm entertained by my yo-yo and rubber chicken as well as Diango's toy horsies and spinning plates. Maybe it's because they just look so amusing; the toy horsies especially make my character look like a little kid and I think that's a riot. I love the things my char says when he plays with the horses (or any other char for that matter playing with 'em).

  13. I haven't been to tutorial island since RS2, but I think Outsanity wrote: that's an excellent idea... teaching newbies more about the game is always good, and they can learn to make some stuff of their own. However I would admit that it might defeat the purpose of the sheep shearer quest somewhat as that seems to be an intro to crafting...

  15. just out of curiosity, has this been mentioned on the rs forums?
  16. my wife plays, and from what I hear from her when she's playing, I don't think the kiddies are treating her all that great. She complains a lot about the "will you be my gf" comments but also "u noob" a lot too. I might have less issue with this topic if a majority of people were actually *roleplaying*, but I see a lot of people yakking just as they would in real life. I won't be hypocritical-- I haven't created a persona for my character, so I don't think I'm doing much roleplaying either. I don't do a lot of online gaming, but I came from a MUD background (text based) and quite a bit of this seems to be the same old thing. Not many folks take lots of time pouring roleplaying concepts into their characters (they'll talk as themselves usually, it was only a few games that had in-character and out-of-character rules) and it's not unusual if people put something sexual or something like that into the game.
  17. I was spending my time browsing and playing endless screens of java based games. Not a one was a MMORPG; Runescape was the first I came across. Seemed interesting enough-- it was free and I could still play with my dialup connection. I played hard for a while and then got bored. My wife started about the same time as I did and dropped off before I did (being a mom takes time) but then she decided to start up again. So I got interested again, but eventually I decided I really needed to get members, at least to start fletching for my range skill. I've been pretty hooked from there.
  18. thanks for the helpful sticky- I'm not thinking of an RS forum, but was thinking of a forum for another gaming thing I do.
