  1. Sadly, I know a few people that will have their entire lunch consist of a pop and a bag of chips instead of paying $2 for a school meal (Maybe 50 cents saving, but with the price increases at your vending machines now it's the same)
  2. Do you think that person still stands to make money off of it 70 years after their death though? It *would* be unfair if it was anything below authors lifetime copyright, but that's not the suggestion here. As far as I know it's patent for invention/idea and copyright for the more artistic works. (Reading up on it, patents have a maximum term of 20 years after filing in the US)
  3. Say you found a great movie from the 1950s and you like the settings and idea and you want to make a sequel that you think will be a huge improvement on the original. Right now you would have to get permission and pay a large fee most likely. Now if you're an independent movie maker and you want to make a sequel and don't have the money, you're pretty much SOL if you want to sell it. While it would create a fair amount of crap, surely we can filter such stuff and focus on the gems... even if they don't make their own original content ;) As someone suggested to me, a copyright for life or until the person would be 80 years old (whichever happens to be longer) would be much better.
  4. If you think about it, if this was around in Shakespeares time, he would have gotten sued for writing a lot of his stuff :P That's a pretty good idea too, since companies will still have their games copyrighted, but will not sell them in any form at all since there's no money to be made off of it.
  5. That's probably not an option for most highschool students unless their high school allows them to leave for lunch =\
  6. I'm not complaining about the fact that there is a copyright system, just that the time before whatever it is lapses into public domain is pretty damn long (reallly long...) Something like 20-30 years would definitely be more reasonable. EDIT: I meant after the authors death >.<
  7. If you really don't want to build your own computer you could look at places like eMachines with cheap desktops that are pretty good (I guess it's all about quality refurbished parts)
  8. Odds are they won't enforce it :P (Or we could be on a Vista blacklist >.>)
  9. We *just* got a new soda machine to replace an old one  It's pretty nifty (uses a conveyor type thing and it has a seethrough panel) and it sells chocolate milk! Although they have upped prices on pop to 1.25..... and the chocolate milk is 1.50 =\
  10. I dunno, doesn't a nose piercing make it hard to mine for the green gold?
  11. One thing that just popped into my head today was copyright law... later I realized a horrible fact: In the US, anything copyrighted during my lifetime will not go public domain during my lifetime. The current copyright length is authors life plus 70 years or for companies, 95 years. What a horrible way to stem creativity in favor of making money =\ At least the patent system isn't as horrible... (even though it's getting pretty bad itself). Does anyone know of any big causes/movements to get this lowered significantly?
  12. Well, jeez, But if there are only 2 ppl, then the chances are exactly half. It is due to that there are 2 ppl, and 2 possible outcomes. They either share the same birthday, or they dont. so if there are 2 ppl and 2 possible outcomes, it is 50/50. Man I hate probablities. Fabricant: I'm assumming that Colint94 is thinking we know the distance of the rail-lines between NY and SF and that we work that out ourself. Another problem is that he never says how many stops it takes, and if it does stop if the freezer is fixed. So we can't answer due to a shortage of information. Also, I understand your solution, but mine makes sense too, don't they? lol Wow, this got slightly popular now didn't it? Anymore? Actually the odds of them having the same birthday are lower than the odds against. And as to the ice cream problem, it doesn't matter unless the freezer is fixed or the distance is less than 1375 miles And since he didn't state the first and the second is very impossible they will have no scoops left
  13. Actually I think someone did mention music (metal)
  14. Yeah, Coke has that bite and it makes your teeth gritty... it also leaves more of an aftertaste.
  15. It's so much fun! ^.^
  16. As bad as it may sound, I can't go without the computer for more than a week or two :x It's replaced my tv in a way :P (although that may be a good thing  )
  17. http://static.circa1984.com/the-big-scam.html Interesting story about a big scam :o

if by spitting in your hands you mean creating beats, rhythms, and melodies using your mouth, imitating turntable scratching, and simulating instruments and sound effects, then yah so its like creating musical fusion. I prefer the definition of spitting in your hands :P
  20. You don't know they have their own script called "RuneScript." The game is made In Java and probably used with a little bit of C++. It's a common fact that they have a scripting language called RuneScript, I believe they talk about it in the corporate site?
  21. wow, under 100 USD If you're not opposed to buying online :D
  22. I've never played freelancer before. http://www.microsoft.com/games/freelancer/downloads_05.asp You can download the trial version (150 MB) from there. The only real limits are you have to stay in the Liberty System and can't use jumpholes or the whatnot and you can't get past level 2 or 3 without the trial ending :P However, there are a fair few mods for the trial alone ;) You might poke around http://www.lancersreactor.com EDIT: if you want to learn more on modding, go here and click on the editing tutorial by me (no, not the Ice Gecko from Scapeboard, I thought it was a cool name when I was younger and "stole" it :x )
  23. So how does this game compare to Freelancer (other than the obvious MMORPG'ness)
  24. Would you do me a favur and tell me why exactly the o was removed from colur? I think you mean the u's :P
