  1. Sure, it's a gift. I'm sure Jagex can start giving a 'gift' out every month or two for signing up for membership. If they're sincerely commemorating the event, the redeeming code should be given out in the goodie bag on the day of the event. It is clear that releasing the item before hand is going to give the tickets sale a slight push in the right direction. I'm not saying that Jagex can't give out free cosmetic items for membership/purchase of tickets. I'm saying that if they should not announce their disapproval for microtransaction, only to act in a manner that makes people doubt their words. It was unnecessary at the end of the day. At first people are merely discussing whether they would be going or not based on their constraints, or whether the ticket price is reasonable, and what they might see there. Now there's a new issue for discussion that could have totally been avoided. There's a reason for certain trends being changed. Holiday items becoming untradeable, no more wintumber tree-like events, ice strykewyrms getting a change in requirements; The precedence creates unfairness among the players, hence the change. Why mess up your PR for this, again?
  2. Bad Jagex, for not realising that their players would act like spoilt children... Seriously, my respect for this forum has decreased severely just from this thread. If I'm playing a game where microtransaction (even for cosmetic items) is the norm, I know what I'm in for. You pay a fee for more skills and items, those who play the game know what they're in for. Holiday items are seasonal items, I blame no one for missing out on an item for whatever reason. But a corporation that openly declared that they'll never sell in-game items for cash, and yet offer an extra item for 75 bucks? Apparently the banner is a comemorative item, but what sets apart an active player who has it from another active player who doesn't? Cash. It's not so much about the item, but the fact that Jagex was against the policy of microtransaction in the first place. I would rather they take back their word and add a cash shop selling cosmetic item for a dollar each.
  3. So is the bunny ears, or the scythe. Would the players who have them mind if Jagex give them out again? It's just a cosmetic item. The answer is yes, by the way. a difference is a difference.
  4. i agree full heartedly (and im not going to runefest btw) It's an item that the following groups of people would permanently miss out on: those below age 16. those unable to afford the cost of the trip. those unwilling to participate in a real-life event over a game. However, it's an item that the following groups of people can obtain: those who bought the ticket to attend those who bought the ticket just for the item, and does not intend to go for the event those who get the item off another player Sure, it's just cosmetic. But then again why would this be necessary? You paid cash for a real life event. Real life commerative items, perhaps with 'Runefest 2010' printed on them, would have been more suitable, and Jagex did intend to give out. This additional step is just generate a negative atmosphere simply because suddenly it makes a difference to the game as well. And if you think that Jagex has some way to prevent the transfer of the redeem code to another account, think again. If they can confirm the accounts that would be redeeming the item, they could have directly added the items to those accounts without the redeeming code step. And it's plausible that someone would buy the ticket just for the item as well, silly as it may sound. You may not want to pay hundreds of bucks for airfare, accomdation and such, but 75 bucks for an item that permanetly makes your account unique?
  5. If anyone's buying the ticket and HATES the banner for some unknown reason, I'll gladly take it off you.
  6. This. Then they should make those codes expire a month after Runefest or so. Within the month it is still possible to sell the code.
  7. Yeah, I just went back there and there appears to be a delay now... <_< I can still loot like three times, but why bother when I can just repeatedly knock out Menaphite thugs and loot them twice without having to lure them every time? Officially no reason to go back to that place now. Gg Jagex  Honestly when I saw theives guild, I was really hoping there would be some kind of randomized capers you could pull for money and rewards, sort of like a minigame / activity of sorts, instead we get a few one off capers that give mediocre rewards and only serve to upgrade the guild, which now that they've nerfed blackjacking, is worthless. Pyramid Plunder and blackjacking are so overpowered in XP that any thieving related update after these seems to have little impact on the way people train. Or if you want loot, master farmers are one of the best as well. The changes like triple look off dwaves and this 'guild' are just too insignificant in comparison.
  8. Your doubted wrongly obviously. A lot of people commented postively on the voice acting heard during the tutorial, both on tip.it and RSOF when it came out.
  9. If Jagex's going to ask for the username of the attendees, they could've programmed the items directly into the account without any redeeming step at all. The fact that there is some code involved, means that anyone with the code would be able to redeem it.
  10. Going back on the 'main' topic, it's four more days to my last exam before I consider signing up for membership again. Right now, I'm most curious of what this location is, is it the ACTUAL thieving guild? I've always thought that Rogues' Den was the default guild for thieves, with the skillcape seller and all. Besides the mini tasks and a pretty fast training method someone mentioned earlier, what else is there? Rogues' Den has a pretty large thieving/agility maze that gives a unique comestic outfit for thieves (the place can do with a bit of update), and out of the blues Jagex added a 'thieving guild'.
  11. Where the [bleep] did that come from? had nothing to do with the rest of the discussion gtfo... That's because a post before mine was deleted by a tip.it mod. Someone posted a cache image of a banner with 'Runefest 2010' on it, along with the items like the monocle and and ruby dragon from the the thieving update. And this is one of the rare occasions where I see someone posting a 'gtfo' on tip.it forums. 1) This is not RSOF. 2) You're not cool. <_<
  12. Think about it.... Just how many players in game will actually have the item after the event? It will be a rarity to see one That's the thing. It would be a status symbol. It's going to be rare, and the ones who have it are the ones who can afford it. .....Unless there's going to be an in-game runefest with that item available to everyone, considering that the real life event itself places age restriction on players.
  13. Well, now I'm pretty sad. First time I have to miss out on a cosmetic but nevertheless seasonal item because I don't attend a real-life event. :wall:
  14. Blame Jagex for being stupid enough to create high-level dungeons that aren't instanced. Any update can have an effect on other content in the game. If a piece of content (like GWD) can be broken by another piece of content (like a bonus xp weekend), then it seems like the original content should be changed. You missed the point. XP bonus weekends are TEMPORARY and do not add any new content to the game. This is different from what veterans feel about a new training method added to the game. There is nothing creative about it. It's like a catalyst to speed up what everyone (assuming everyone is participating) will achieve after a longer period of time. And the fact that not everyone can/will participate in it means that it's creates unnecessary imbalance in the game for both the highscore and economy. The only event that is exceptional to the case is holiday events, as the items are purely cosmetic. XP isn't; is a main part of the game. And in the case of economy, other games that implement bonus XP periods seldom have an issue with this, since resources required are bought off NPCs at fixed prices (maplestory and healing potions anyone?) Is bonus XP week creative? Nope. Necessary. Nope. Does it benefit players? You thought it would by saving some GP. Then again almost everyone who's participating thinks along the same line. It's not like you have a big advantage over another active player, in fact it's just to keep up with the competition.
  15. Well, good job Jagex on patching up the little stuff that prevents players from treating Daemonheim like a one-stop free XP training spot for every skill out there. I noticed a few things about the way you post. One, you like to leave one sentence per line. Two, you don't make any sense. 'Worthless' skill? I'm sure you can provide a good explanation of how summoning skill is worthless to us. OT: I think it's a little sad that Jagex tries to improve the thieving NPCs here and there, but majority of the players are still going to train most of their thieving levels in Pyramid plunder or blackjacking. #-o
  16. And looking at the leaked update schedule, we should be enjoying a relatively long period of safe updates that doesn't cause widespread upset among the players (ice strykewyrms and dungeoneering). Thieving guild, FTP3, elite diaries, EW3, court room, castle wars....well maybe the last one might get screwed up.
  17. I am assuming before NPC spawn based on your combat level plus your summoning level. Now the summoning part is removed so the monsters should be weaker because the variable it is based on is lower. Well, that makes sense, since the monsters levels does not have a summoning contributing factor. Unless they add new NPCs that has a summoning beast with it. I don't see any sign of Jagex changing the way F2P dungeoneering is nerfed. <_<
  18. Can someone explain the difference for summoning before and after the patch whereby the random generator ignores your summoning level?
  19. Erm, for starters... I never suggested that players get less xp for being in groups. Read what I said. I said rewarded MORE for soloing. I also went into specifics as to what you should get bonuses for. Not to mention the fact that I also said I could live with greater penalties in solos, as long as the poential bonuses would be there. Fact is, soling is tougher in some ways. Accessing all the rooms, killing all monsters, and beating the boss without dieing should count for more then what it counts for now. Fact is, accessing all rooms is dependant on your skill levels. There isn't anything 'tough' about opening all rooms at all besides the pre-dungeoneering part of training your skills. Killing all monsters is a task that some people skip in order to finish the dungeon faster. Has the dungeon ever generated normal monsters so tough that killing them would be depleting resources for the boss? Not really. The current XP system already rewards players for opening all rooms (13%), killing all monsters (10%), and penalties for death (equivalent of bonus for not dying). What's different is the base floor and prestige XP in a group VS solo for the same floor. If you're saying that group effort should get more than soloing but soloing should get more than what they're getting now......your personal ideal XP is not any better than another player's. To me, as long as the ratio of XP for say, solo VS duo isn't in the extremes of 1:10 or 9:10, it's more or less suitable. I'm only replying because of the phrasing of this part of your post. Perhaps you want to explain your 'other way round', of which I'm thinking that it refers to the previous part where you say 'more xp in a group then completing a floor by myself'. There's no other way round than to read it as more xp completing a floor by yourself than in a group.
  20. For the XP rate, by the time you hit your desired level the system should have noticed this particular player spending hours in the same floor.
  21. It's RuneScape in a petri dish. Hopefully this mini RS can be tweaked to perfection, after which Jagex can bring the same standards to the outside world. I wonder if spears are overpowered though. In F2P I see a variety of weapons, but at promethium level most melee players seem to use spears.
  22. This is what I hate about some groups. Pretty early when I started this skill, I got paired up with another beginner and a guy who just hoarded every item he found. As I was maging, I needed lots of runes and didn't have almost anything because the guy had basically taken everything, even the runes (he was meleeing)! I told him to give me the runes if he doesn't need them, but he just didn't answer. Then, he started making melee equipment and asking us if we needed melee stuff, still not responding to my requests. Then, when I had one of the keys but didn' want to progress before he atleast somehow responded to me, he said something like "you suck, I'm getting out". Yeah, what a way to start a new skill. -.- Erm, why the hell would Jagex want to give less XP to people who bothered to go through the trouble of partying with other players? If you're soloing and find that you can't overcome some of the obstacles, the idea of getting aid is to get more XP out of your trip, instead of getting yourself penalised. And like both of you mentioned, getting a good group is hard. Jagex would be crazy if they think along the mentality of "you got help from people to open more rooms, therefore you shall get even lesser XP than what you would've gotten if you soloed the floor with those rooms left unlocked!".
  23. I like how the video says "wield the most powerful weapons", shows Bandos Godsword and how it hits 0 on Zilyana, corporeal beast and kalphite queen.
  24. The law and nature staff should have been equipment for the off-hand slot in my opinion. It's like like they have the properties of the normal elemental staves you see that provide unlimited runes of one kind (based on the name), so a tome/orb with a fancier name would be nicer. Plus you can wield your staff with it and save some actual runes. The rune-saving ability is just too insignificant.
  25. I can vouch for frost dragon. Got it with a 5-man team on F2P on the ice floors
