I don't know what's worse - the fact that she was raped, or the fact that her parents disowned her. Although I'm not sure the boys really understood the severity of their actions, especially not the younger ones.

I lolled. But seriously, I'm typing this from the touchscreen on my toaster. ^This. I know it's frustrating, but just start talking to yourself and they soon leave you alone. Failing that, the ignore list is your friend.

23 July 2009 Brazilian worlds (Runescape in Portuguese)
Plugpoint replied to anonymous_user's topic in General Discussion
I don't get why they don't just do Portuguese... What's the difference between that and Brazilian? :? -
I think Ginny's quite pretty. And also, Ron and Hermione make perfect sense because they're best friends. I mean, if they've coped with each other's company for seven years. And some would say they're just like a married couple in that they've always had petty arguments and forgiven each other, time and time again. Plus... [hide=Spoiler]they make sense because if Harry had married Hermione instead, that would have left Ginny and Ron :?[/hide]

75 Albums you should own, Tip.It version
Plugpoint replied to How2PK's topic in Music, Movies & Television
People only think they're irrelevant or overrated because music's evolved to such an extent that The Beatles have become dated. I do like them but I can only listen to The Beatles if they come on the radio or whatever, I would never choose to listen to them when I've got so much other music I prefer. However, you have to appreciate how important they are to music. So many bands have been inspired by them, whether they realise it or not. It could be directly (for example, Oasis being inspired by The Beatles) or indirectly (The Enemy being inspired by Oasis who were inspired by The Beatles) if that makes sense. Music would be completely different today if it wasn't for those four boys from Liverpool. Edit: oh, and I'd still like to do a list : -
Damn..A page ripped out of one of my library books :\

Because ripping an insignificant page out of a book and dropping a nuclear bomb on the USA are pretty similar :wall: -
The whole letting the guy die thing - seemed to me like they were making an example of him, like "hey look, don't rely on us to always give you free organs when you turn your liver to dust!" And I think that he deserved to pay the consequences. There's enough information around these days to show you what happens when you abuse your body like that. More fool him for expecting the NHS to waste time, money and precious organs on him, seeing as the UK don't have a particularly large amount of donors as it is.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned The Fall of Troy yet! They make me go [bleep]ing nuts!

This is going to contain a few spoilers if you haven't read the book. I was quite disappointed having just read it. They replace Dumbledore's funeral with a stupid, completely irrelevant scene featuring the Weasleys' house, and the scene with the Death Eaters' fight in Hogwarts with the pointless train station bit at the start. The Invisibility Cloak was horribly underused considering in the book Harry keeps it on him at all times. And at the end of the book Harry breaks up with Ginny but at the end of the film he gets given Ron's approval. Also thought Daniel Radcliffe's acting was a bit robotic. On a lighter note though, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were brilliant, as was Tom Felton, and the scenes in the Pensieve and the bit on the lake were superbly done. Edit, Racheya just posted lol. Yeah the Grimauld Place bit's quite important considering how it's involved in the next book. Speaking of which, I really want to know how they're going to split the Deathly Hallows into two films! (at least they won't miss so much out this time, hopefully.)

Sworddude, sorry but I want to correct YOU lol... [hide=Spoiler - Quote from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows]Dumbledore says: "You were the seventh Horcrux, Harry, the Horcrux he never meant to make. He had rendered his soul so unstable that it broke apart when he committed those acts of unspeakable evil, the murder of your parents, the attempted killing of a child."[/hide]

I'd just say it was like that when you got it. Leave the next person who hires it to think they've done it and feel guilty ;) -
Thought I'd post this here. Proof that alcohol is a) relaxing and B) exercise (therefore good for you) ;)

"If you're ever in ___, you absolutely HAVE to ___ ___!"
Plugpoint replied to Lenticular_J's topic in Off-Topic
If you're ever in Essex, particularly near Basildon, you absolutely HAVE to admire the number of fifteen-year-olds pushing prams. Oh, and then you absolutely have to flee before their 30-year-old mothers hit you with their fake Burberry handbag. -
Are you serious? Never heard that one before... Are you sure that's not just your local pub's policy? I'm not sure the pubs care anyway, they'd be daft to say no to money. Plus it's difficult to tell how drunk somebody is. With me it's really obvious because I give up walking and just crawl everywhere. With others the only noticeable thing is they become a bit louder or overly friendly... and how's the barman to know they're not usually that loud and friendly? It's just a bit impractical trying to enforce that. Also, I agree with Zierro that it's silly the day before you turn 18 you can't buy anything. But then if they did a progression thing, a 17-and-a-half-year-old could go into one shop and buy a legal amount, then go into the next shop and buy the same amount and so on, and have a thoroughly good time. Which nobody wants. Of course.
-
Zierro, the problem comes with enforcing these regulations... For example, one of my family can come across as a good father and a knowledgeable, likeable accountant but given a few pints too many he's falling through their fence at his daughter's third birthday party. Same applies to me. I'm generally pretty sensible and academic, but a bat[cabbage]-crazy drunk. Unfortunately, age is the only thing that they can use as a restriction
-
I agree that it is slightly ridiculous that these mostly talentless people have any degree of fame or success. I tend to listen to bands who have learnt to play an instrument and who write and sing their own songs. However, parties wouldn't be the same without a bit of this sort of music. There's a time and a place for it.

Posted this a couple weeks back, but can somebody remove my pictures please? Thanks.

Yeah I agree, smoking's much worse than drinking. At least with alcohol you know what you're drinking whereas they stick all kinds of horrible chemicals in cigarettes. Plus, every single time you light a cigarette around people you are causing them irreversible damage whereas when you drink you rarely harm anybody other than yourself.

He looks about 8!

Read them and find out! But the answer is no EDIT: And why is it called the Sorcerer's Stone in America, and not the Philosopher's Stone as it should be? :?

You didn't get what I was saying there. I said that if it were a last resort I would have a few shots. It is not a last resort. I do not need to have a few shots before I leave the house. And you have absolutely no idea just what I get out of drinking alcohol so don't talk as if you know. woah there, I'm against the "alcohol is evil" campaign as much as anyone but even considering drinking before college as a solution to being shy is a slippery slope - I'm pretty shy myself but would be very concerned for myself if I even considered drinking in the daytime. No no no I didn't say I'd considered it at all. I said IF it were a last resort - which it absolutely isn't, I can deal with being shy. I would never, ever resort to drinking at/before college. I'd quite like to remember things so I can have a half-decent career lol. EDIT: I replied to that when I'd just got home and couldn't really remember what I was on about earlier lol. Basically, Perfetc had said that he had never needed to rely on alcohol for motivation, to which I said nor had I - hypothetically speaking, if I'd absolutely needed to rely on it then I would need a drink before I left the house. But I don't need to rely on it, so I don't need to do that. I think that was the point I was trying to make :? I've said what but not to what extent. I don't think even I really know to what extent seeing as a few of my closest friends have been made whilst I've been inebriated.

He said "Just because you haven't even considered driving doesn't mean it's an invalid comparison." Again, we were comparing it to alcohol consumption, again you went entirely off-topic and ignored the point he made. One is a convenient mode of transport, the other is a convenient way to make yourself feel good. One costs several thousand pounds PER YEAR in insurance, in buying a car, in buying lessons and petrol and kitting your car out, one costs a few hundred pounds OVERALL. They can both help your life function in their own ways. They can both damage your body and mind (one car crash can do more physical and psychological damage than a lifetime of drinking). Cars are an easy way out for lazy people. Yet again, a comparison was being made to alcohol consumption to try and make you understand what we're getting at, yet again you ignored the point and went off on a tangent. I don't mean to sound disrespectful but if you live in a homeless shelter... why do you have a computer? :? Also - yes, you didn't have to resort to alcohol because you were so desperate for shelter. We don't HAVE to resort to it, it just helps. And his last question was that we have no real motivation to do anything because we're not desperate for something that will vastly improve our lives. Because the motivation is not there, drink helps. It makes perfect sense. He pretty much said if somebody is shown a liquid that will help them enjoy themselves, they would be daft to refuse it. I pity you for being completely unable to spell a simple four-letter word. P-i-t-y. I didn't deny that the beer belly exists. Most of my family have one. But obesity can be attributed to fast food more so than alcohol. I have also drunk with friends and I have read more than a few books and I am not being difficult, I really do honestly prefer drinking. It's an opinion. Were you around when Henry VIII was on the throne? No? So how would you know he exists? Through history books, right? Much in the same way that I was not around back in those days but I know they did not have photography and therefore nothing to really document the effects of drinking, and medical knowledge had not evolved to the extent where the effects of drinking on the liver, brain etc could be studied well. I doubt the genetic make-up thing is true. You may be more likely to be obese based on your metabolism, but you cant just say "I'm fat because of my genes" in most cases where it is down to diet and exercise too. Also, you say there are films worse. Perhaps I should change the scenario then, to say that stunts shown in films can lead to death when re-enacted? A lot of them aren't conscious efforts - for example, you wouldn't shoot somebody just because Scarface shot people, however you may have been exposed to gunfire during the course of Scarface which is lodged in your subconsciousness. Watching too many gangster films could lead to more deaths than alcohol for all we know. Just because nobody's said "I did it because I like Scarface" doesn't mean that Scarface wouldn't have had a part to play in it. (I hope that makes sense... it made sense to me when I read it back lol. Obviously it doesn't just apply to Scarface, it could apply to anything from Grand Theft Auto to WWE.) My point here is that, once again using your logic, films and video games could lead to more deaths than alcohol. Should we hate films and video games? Oh my! A mechanic! He'll know all about the environment! No match for somebody who is studying chemistry! Anyway, I was using cars as a substitute for alcohol in this debate. Just how bad it is for the environment is irrelevant here, all that matters is that it is more than a bit bad for the environment. You didn't get what I was saying there. I said that if it were a last resort I would have a few shots. It is not a last resort. I do not need to have a few shots before I leave the house. And you have absolutely no idea just what I get out of drinking alcohol so don't talk as if you know.
