  1. Is it at all possible to get access to a gym?
  2. Do some looking, it's a common sentiment/research finding in the CJ field. I'm aware that "states with death penalties don't have a smaller crime rate", but that doesn't prove anything. This is definitely a case where correlation doesn't imply causation. I mean, it's simple logic to know that people (and even animals) are more likely to do something if they benefit from it and less likely to do something if it harms them. Yes, of course there are some people out there who are not swayed by whatever punishments may be out there, but it's such a huge stretch to believe that never once did somebody change their mind about committing a crime because they feared the law. I'm not talking about just crime rates, I'm talking as a specific deterrent too, and I never said that it is confined to the death penalty state stats. Criminals do not think they will be caught
  3. I assume you have never heard of restorative justice.
  4. I love how you're gungho about punishing and murdering murderers, yet have you ever thought to look at the causes of crime and ways that we can fix them?
  5. Do some looking, it's a common sentiment/research finding in the CJ field.
  6. Exactly. That's why I never understood "two wrongs don't make a right". They do, because they discourage immoral actions from happening. Prison/punishment as a general/specific deterrent doesn't work
  7. Anyone got any ideas for good non chin range training during the weekend? I suspect chin spots will be over flowed, so maybe a cannon somewheres?
  8. I think optimal is around 1 - 2 minutes? Something like that, but really if you don't feel like you can complete the next set then take little bit more.
  9. I'd rather trust the information of bodybuilders and powerlifters who take their knowledge from world renowned trainers and lifters, some with kinesiology degrees and partaking in competitions, than a high school tennis coach. On sets after a quick google: http://health.learninginfo.org/muscle-building.htm Also has info about reps, but it doesn't really touch on low rep routines ^That's basically the sentiment all around, but I couldn't word it as eloquently. If you're doing 4 sets of every exercise, you aren't putting up enough weight. Some exercises 4 is ok, but not for all of them You won't see NEAR the gains if you work at home as opposed to a gym.
  10. Easy. What's your favorite 99 cape out of those?
  11. This is a very good point that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet. Reason: [hide] Should I not eat carbs late at night? Eating carbohydrates at night can, under certain circumstances, cause you to store the calories as fat. Another reason to avoid or lower your carbohydrate intake late at night, when trying to get cut, is to harness the body's output of growth hormone (GH), which is released at night within the first 90 minutes of deep sleep. GH is beneficial if you wish to shed fat and hold muscle, because it initiates a moderate shifting of fuel sources so the body burns more fatty acids at rest at the expense of burning less glycogen and body protein. Taking advantage of your body's GH output results in additional fat loss without a loss in muscle. Carbs consumed before you head off to bed can blunt the body's natural release of growth hormone, since GH is released more readily when blood-sugar levels are low. That's why some bodybuilders try to avoid carbohydrates later in the day. From http://www.jimmythomas.com/training/members/carbohydrates.htm [/hide]
  12. Uhhh, you don't need to do cardio before a work out to avoid injury. Ramping is a great warm up Most people would agree that 3 sets are better than 4 or more, but I guess that can change depending on what you're trying to do. That's three sets with the same weight too (your working weight) Since most people don't know much about muscle groups and which exercise works which groups, get a routine instead of trying to figure it out yourself. And IIRC (might want to check), but high reps = build more mass, low reps + more weight = build strength. Generally speaking. Gym is better than no gym. Gym is better than no gym. Gym is better than no gym. Gym is better than no gym.
  13. Yeah man, lets blame the victim. And that chick who got raped totally deserved it, she shouldn't have gotten drunk or dressed so suggestively. And that dude who got mugged deserved it because he shouldn't have been walking down that street at night.
  14. I want more like 50, I suck at vinesweeper though so I guess I'll just wait and wait for MTK Just curious, why do you want so many? Heh, painless way to 99 farming...guess it isn't so painless :wall: and lol, just realized i read the calc wrong and I need over 100. Whoops
  15. I want more like 50, I suck at vinesweeper though so I guess I'll just wait and wait for MTK
  16. Ah, that sucks then
  17. With 10 workers on maple, anyone know how rare spirit seeds are from nests?
  18. How does it compare to a tooth brush? Looks like one but with harder/ticker bristles
  19. When you come up with excuses for mutilating innocent people who showed off the fact that they did it to the crowd and police with the decapitated head (Oh yeah, no guilty mind there!), you're spitting in the face of humanity. [cabbage] like that should NEVER happen. How you people can even defend something like that makes me sick. He did it because he was in an irrational state of mind. So what? Since when has being irrational been a justification for being irrational? That's circular logic. Shouldn't we, um, be against irrational thinking? Whether the excuse is brain chemicals, a bad environment, whatever, nothing changes the fact that he still shouldn't have done it. You're walking down the street. You randomly black out. You wake up with a dead body next to you, covered in blood and holding a knife. Should you be held responsible? I'm going to stop posting, as we're just going around in circles and saying the same things over and over
  20. That is quite a broad and stereotypical statement. You can't just "fake" schizophrenia like that, and if he did, respond to my previous statement: If he is such a mastermind that he could learn enough about schizophrenia, fool everyone, and continue to fool everyone for the rest of his life, why would he murder someone on a public bus in front of dozens of people with no possibility of escape? The purpose of the law isn't to treat everyone the same, that is not fair. You may not be in direct interaction with as many criminals, but an institute is much the same as a prison. Deprivation of liberty, goods, told what to do, etc. Yes, I suppose I am saying he is in a way excused. People who kill bullies are in a correct state of mind to form a mens reus of the offence, their mind is for the most part in a rational state. They can think clearly, they can determine the consequences of their actions. Someone like Li could not, his thoughts were that killing this person would be good because the man is evil, as god told him. He wasn't thinking that the man's family would be grieved, or that he isn't an evil being. His mind was completely messed up beyond rational thought. When he got on the bus with the scissors and knife he was in the same messed up state of mind as when he killed the guy on the bus. I doubt he knew that flaunting the head would scare the crowd, considering he thought god told him to kill the guy because he was he evil. Though we will probably never know what exactly went through his head. You haven't taken many psychology courses have you? Freud's theories are often criticized for various reasons, including no possible retestability. Lots of Freud's ideas aren't really taken as truth by a lot of psychologists. Psychology has a lot of great ideas and impacts. Are you trying to question the validity of a schizophrenia disorder or something? Otherwise I don't really see the point of what you said here.
  21. Oh, I found this funny too I wouldn't call life in a mental institution getting out of trouble. Oh, and for interest sake, here's some excerpts from the judge in the case http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20090304/bus_verdict_090305/20090305/
  22. Agreed, which I never said it was effective. Except for the fitting place for a man who decaps people part. You seem to imply that he isn't worthy of rehabilitation, which is ridiculous. I'm assuming you did not follow the case very closely/at all. He was an immigrant with a history of problems, it wasn't a one time thing. I also remember reading in our paper an article in which they mention an article that was run in the Edmonton paper (where he lived), in which it detailed an old Aboriginal mythical creature who would posses people. Surprise surprise, the way you got rid of it was by beheading it. How do I know he wasn't in the right state of mind? Do regular people talk to god? And again, for the part where you said he could have faked it, he was diagnosed as a schizophrenic by professional psychologists. Never said it does. It does show that he wasn't in a right state of mind though Lol, I don't think I should be arguing with someone who has no grasp of the law. My "moral code" is fine. Please, point out to me where I said it is OK to kill someone. All I've said is that the person should not be treated like a regular murderer if they were not in a right state of mind/mentally "disturbed" so to speak. Also, not to go off topic, but keeping dogs outside is stupid. Dogs have been bred for centuries to be companion animals, not wild animals. It's not really about the jail and mental institution thing. Neither are very good ways of "fixing" people. As long as they're away from the rest of society, I'm fine when it comes to that. What does bother me is the fact that people believe he was not responsible for what he did. So you ascribe to the warehouse people mind set then? I think you are getting too hung up on the responsiblity thing. He DID kill the guy, and he is guilty of that. But he was real messed up at the time, and shouldn't be responsible for that because he wasn't in a regular, rational state of mind. In fact, the first/only thing he said to police after he was arrested was "please kill me". Someone who decapitates someone and then tries to eat parts of the body is not someone I would call mentally stable. Which also raises the question, if he were faking it or whatever you seem to be suggesting, why would he kill someone on a bus in full public view instead of abducting some random person no one will notice is gone?
  23. Those sound like mitigating factors to me, and would be taken into account at sentencing. You're telling me someone who is a paranoid schizophrenic and for what ever reason is off their medication is in the same conscious, decision making state as you or I? I'm sure you heard about the greyhound bus decapitation a year (or was it two?) ago. It turned out that the offender had some serious mental problems and wasn't on his meds, and thought god was talking to him and telling him to kill the guy. He was in a VERY messed up state, and to sentence him to a lengthy sentence wouldn't have solved anything. One of the purposes of jail is to rehabilitate, if he wouldn't have committed the crime in a right state of mind and has mental issues, then a jail isn't going to do much for him. He was found not criminally responsible by reason of insanity and got sent to an mental institution, by the way.
  24. no, it isn't. But as far as detection, I'm speculating that it would be near impossible for them to log anything other than time in between bumps. And if they did log something other than time in between bumps (for instance, mouse locations or processes running), it would be a gross invasion of privacy, and getting banned would/should be the least of my concerns. If they did log the time between bumps wouldn't they be able to easily tell you are using a program? And lol at invasion of privacy and what not. Doubt they'd even notice though considering there are hundreds of threads on RSOF
  25. Normal ones with d'hide is the norm. They really aren't hard
