Sure, if it's being done by some sort of "company" that uses the planks to get coins then sell the RS currency for REAL cash... $5 isn't that bad a loss if you can make at least ten times that before the character is banned...
-
Oh yeah, did any of the posters on this thread read that other thread that had a link to an article about "gold farms?" The basis was that a "company" gathers a bunch of computers and cheap labor then runs auto bots all day while the cheap labor randomly checks in on them to make sure they're still running. They then sell the resources they've gathered for in-game gold and then sell the in-game gold for real-life cash. See how large RS has become? It most definately has attracted the attention of such people. They make their own bots if they can't find any that does what they need to be done. Just because some wazoos in a cheat community don't have completely automated character makers doesn't mean that someone who runs LOTS of automated characters doesn't.

Trust me, there is. Dude they would have to come up whit a new name evry time... i know people just make the acount and then maybe let it macro tutorials island but i am SURE a new name evrytime ? you cant do that and btw i have bin in such a 'community' and i know theres only stuff to train skills i once saw it to finish tutorial island but i KNOW that the name is made THEMSELVES and spin emote = auto clicker.... you don't know annything... Have you seen the autoer's names? Junk like "Iio0ll240?" All you would need is something to auto type in random names or to type in names in a sequence(like the next one would be "Iio0ll241" for example. Very rudimentary progamming... Any programming newb knows how to make a counter, and a more skilled one whould know how to make an auto-typer... if you know how to make an auto bot, I'm certain you'd know how to make the above.

I was not aware of this, but it's more or less a common sense thing now that I think about it. But it doesn't seem any better than clicking the browser's refresh button or hitting F5(if in Internet Explorer).

no more 50 grapes and 50 flour in Lumbridge chest :(
Miserikordi replied to quantumkik's topic in General Discussion
True. But you're still spending probably another hour fishing it... Flour isn't too terribly difficult to get, but it was nice to have 50 flour in the chest. It was part of what made Recipie for Disaster one of the quests with the best rewards: The ability to make easy higher level pies and pizzas. Y'know, make it easier to do so people will actually WANT to make them? Instead of just sticking to Shark.... But meh. At least I still have a somewhat hefty stock of flour left to use. :) -
Regarding the Essence Autoers/Yew Log Autoers.
Miserikordi replied to Lime_Mercury's topic in General Discussion
I think this is quite sad. Sadder yet, is knowing that if something could be done to stop this those people "working in the sweatshops" would be forced either into extreme poverty or forced into another sweatshop that's an actual sweatshop. The auto sweatshops are probably air-conditioned because the computers need to keep cool... plus, what's harder? Sitting on one's rear clicking, or doing physical labour...? Someone made a statment about finding it hard to beleive autoers are people and not autoers. The way I understand the article, the autoers do the work and the people monitor them and react if they notice something wrong. So a single person might be watching something like ten computers that are actually doing the "work" on the game. I do beleive that something needs to be done about such things, but it is not within the ability of JaGeX or any other MMORPG-producing company to stop. Whatever measures are put in place, someone will find a way around it. So then the only way to prevent it is to shut down the game itself... There can be a whole slew of changes, but they're only temporary band-aids. Even if it was theoretically possible to stop autoing... These "sweatshop" workers could just instead be forced to actually "play" the game and then sell their profits... -
Is Runescape getting ahead of itself?
Miserikordi replied to HeatMaker's topic in General Discussion
Realism is overrated... Especialy in a game like RuneScape. The characters are cariacatures(sp?) of human beings. You look down upon your own character, and see nothing but a few random objects through your character's eyes. How realistic is that? Not at all. Want realism? Go find a game that has first-person perspective in it. Go find a game where you ARE the character, not some detatched being clicking on stuff and watching the character go somewhere. [DANCE, PUPPETS, DANCE!!!] I think it's fine as it is. As long as they don't start putting in junk like "Shark-mounted Anti-Dragon LaZeRZ of Death" in the game, I'm fine with it. If I wanted reality, I would choose to walk around outside. I have enough reality as it is, I think the way RS is fits its somewhat amusing absurd personality it typically has. -

The bank in Edgeville isn't very far away from the edgeville canoe station, is it? -
Two things. One: You should go do Priest In Peril and any other quest you need to do to get into Morytania. Then venture into Mort'ton. There are several shades, and you get prayer exp and colored metal keys for burning the various corpses. However, you need to have done at least part of Shades of Mort'ton quest to burn them. Loar shades hang around outside the tomb, higher lvl shades requiring higher level pyrelogs to burn hang around inside the nearby tomb which can be opened by any metal colored key(such as bronze key red). There are chests inside the tomb that can be opened by these keys as well, that have various prizes inside them. Two: If you've done Mourning's Ends part 2, you will notice lvl 74 shades like to lurk inside the elven light temple...
-
...I am unsure of the remains being sold. I doubt they will be, at least as a viable trade. There are other ways of training prayer that require less resources. A handful of players might buy them, but I doubt this will ever become much of a market. But I do however beleive there will be more shade hunters trying their hands at the shades minigame.

I only glazed over the first page of this post, so sorry if I'm repeating something already said. I'm lazy tonight. I think that this would be a good idea for publicity, but I do not think that this should be invoked for real money. I suggest that instead of real life money that Jagex gives coins or new rare items to each member of the winning clan. If they actually add in clan or guild support (beyond those silly team capes) and the guild has a seperate bank account from all members then maybe give the clan/guild itself some money too. This would greatly increase the pleasure of many PKers and PKing clans.

That was a rather rude and unwarrented response. But hey, maybe you should be grateful that he stated a reason for calling you a noob. About a year ago I was called noob by someone 20 combat lvls lower than I was while searching for a drawer for a clue scroll. Then the person promptyly left. Never figured out why someone would waste time to follow me into an empty building just to call me a noob...
-
That would be risky and difficult to find out, since it is nontradable and not sellable to the store. But it would be good to know what items you keep before the cape if you die. Anyone know, because I too am curious about that.
-
Good idea! Someone should also send one to Bill Teach. I want that reddish overcoat he wears. That would match well with a Red Cavalier. :P That and the dark black overcoat and pants worn by Brian O'Richard in the Rouge's Den area are pieces of clothing I've wanted ever since I first saw them...

dam adults think that computer games make us anti-social?
Miserikordi replied to minifootxxx's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Real life and Cyberspace are two totally different mediums. Those who socialize in cyberspace may learn a little about socializing, but there is so very much you miss out on. Online, you cannot hear tones of voice, you cannot see body language. All you see are words on a screen, without seeing a real person behind them. This may be liberating, but you have very little clue as to what the person on the other side of the screen is thinking and feeling besides what you read them typing. You miss out on the changes in tone of voice that marks the difference between factual statements and sarcasm. You miss out on questioning tones. You miss out on all the nonverbal cues of someone's true thoughts, like body position, hand gestures, and eye contact that can really give a person away. Not only that, but if you socialize in cyberspace instead of real life, you will have a much more difficult time of real-life interaction. You won't have really good speaking ability. You won't be able to pick up on certain clues that others can. You might have a more difficult time hiding certain things because you aren't aware of the cues you give off. Not only that, but you can take two people, have one say something to the other, and have totally different reactions to the same exact thing depending upon if it's online or offline. For example, if you follow someone in RS asking for money or info, they'll usually just get ticked off. Follow someone in real life, they'll normally get creeped out and quite possibly call the cops. Tell a girl something crude online, and she will most likely laugh it off as some idiot being stupid and pay it no further mind. Say something crude to the same girl in real life, and you'll more than likely be visited by the cops again. Just because you're "talking" to people online, and making new friends in a virtual landscape, doesn't mean you're truly socializing. You have nothing to judge most of these people by except words you see on a screen, words that you have no other clue to tell if they're the truth or a lie except the words themselves. Again, I repeat: "Socializing" online is nothing at all compared to socializing in real life. I tend to mispronounce things in real life because I don't talk enough. I know how to pronounce them correctly, I just trip over my words occasionally. I don't know how to hold myself properly(I mean posture-wise) nor do I know how to read many nonverbal signals I see at the time I see them. It usually hits me after the event is over that a certain pose or so was made and it meant something I completely missed. That's because I spent too much time online and not enough time in the real world. Don't mess up like I did, kid. Be grateful your parents are trying to get you to socialize with real people you can see and touch and hear face to face. -
I'm addicted to RS too. But it's odd. RS for me goes in phases. I can play obsessively for a few months, then get sick of it and no longer with to play it anymore. I'm on the addicted phase right now I think.

To use PINs to battle macroers, Jagex would have to: 1) Make PINs mandatory 2) Force users to enter the PIN every time they access their bank 3) Either remove the drop boxes, or PIN those as well (defeating their purpose) 4) Add wierd font/text size to the PIN screen Also, even with a wierd font, it is much easier to read a number on a screen than a letter (nevermind a whole word!). There are only 10 digits (compared to 26 letters), and digits are easier to tell apart (compare 7 and 9 to e and o). PINs would have to be made longer, to increase the chance of a screen reader messing up a digit. ------------------------ This is a bad idea. 1) most people will be happy with a compulsary pin if it stops macroers 2) It doesnt need to be every time you access the bank only, say, evey half hour. This will limit macroers to 30 minutes at a time. and it isnt a big deal to legit players; if you play for 2 hours a day thats 4 times MAX 3) Yes, drop boxes would have to be removed 4) I would be worthwile for jagex to put the effort in to use distorted numbers if it does stop macroers Think about this, even if a macro program has a 75% chance of getting each digit right (which i doubt), with a 4 digit pin there is a less than 1 in 3 chance of getting the whole thing right (0.75*0.75*0.75*0.75=0.316) I have things to say. Here's 3 worthless comments and one worthwhile one. 1) It would annoy me. Just like Fatigue in RSC did. 2) Several legit players play for far longer than 2 hours a day. Though if I could deal with fatigue in RSC, I could deal with a mandatory bank pin. 3)Never used it anyways. 4)It would not be worthwhile for Jagex to even attempt this. Why? Because they had a shocking failure with a similar method in RS Classic. I suggesst you go look for some screenshots of RSC's fatigue system to get an idea of how the letters in it looked. You couldn't do anything if you got to 0% fatigue. So you had to sleep. First in a bed, later in a sleeping bag. They gave a random word, and some messed-up looking letters. To wake up, you had to type in the word correctly. It wasn't too long before auto programs could recognise the words and type them. With the Bank PIN system, any auto program would just have to be given the PIN number, and then look for the PIN numbers and click them. If it can click coal by sight, it could do the same with numbers, no matter if they're randomly placed and weird looking. In short: when trying to reinvent the wheel, why make the wheel square twice when it failed to roll the first time?

Hm? Why ecto to save your glory while rcing when you can...
Miserikordi replied to SkULLEDPK3R's topic in General Discussion
It's not for fun. They do it for the ess! I'm not one to complaing about pkers (after all thats what the wilderness is there for) but why do they risk 200K+ (I believe thats the starting price for a mediocre pking outfit) for 28 essense? I doubt they pk most people for essence. Many Abyss RC'ers wear full dragonhide. Many wear glory amulets. A few will carry ddp's for a lil extra defense. A few will carry a rune pickaxe to use to mine your way through one of the obstacles in the Abyss. Risking a 200K outfit on pking Abyss RC'ers is not a hard choice, considering 9 out of 10 RC'ers carry at least something that can be sold or alched for money, yet maybe 1 in 20 actually carries a countermeasure against abyss pk'ers (most of whom use magic. Plus, if you abyss PK someone who gets ticked off, you have time to world hop or to get out of the wild before your victim comes to exact revenge. So you can get at least enough cash off your spoils to pay for your suit, if not more. Especially if you have Ancient Magicks. You can hit opponents hard even if they have high magic defense... Few Abyss RC'ers think to bring a bow and arrows to counterattack with, so for the most part a mage has nothing to worry about. -
I don't see it as being odd... or at least as being notably odd. We humans have done far stranger things. In this case, there are three reasons I can see for this: 1.) Curiosity. These people just want to find out what the other gender go through. 2.) Seperation of self and character. Certain people may play a character of the other sex because they don't see their avatar as the same as themselves... and for some reason, form an attachment of it. Or perhaps they just like the way the character looks as a different gender more than the other. 3.) Harrassment. This one mainly applies to females. Some females may be harassed in-game, so they play as male characters to avoid harassment.

There's a problem with Multi-Logging
Miserikordi replied to aqua_dragons's topic in General Discussion
Good advice smartme, but wouldn't you want to trade with a trusted family member more than an unknown person? Wouldn't there be a certain charm for a family playing RS together, as a family activity? I think the current system needs work because I'm sure lots of people would like to play that way. -
[Tip] Very good way to have money if hacked.
Miserikordi replied to v3nd3tta's topic in General Discussion
It's against Rule 8 - Multiple Logging-In: "If you create more than one RuneScape account, they must not interact." ...And by posting info on how to make a mule that hopefully dodges their detection system, you might be said to be breaking Rule 9 - Encouraging Others to Break Rules :"You must not encourage others to break any of the RuneScape rules." Whee, rules. -
Is there a future for dragons on Rs...
Miserikordi replied to buffrichie's topic in General Discussion
bronze = blue+ iron = red++ steel = blk+ mith would be... lvl 400? you would need a team of 50+ 126's to kill the rune dragon lvl 1200  IF the rune dragon acted the same as the other metal dragons... A single player could probably kill it alone given enough prayer potions, antifire potions, and time... -
Ditto. I'm hoping the same. I liked pretty but a little plain and calm Zanaris more than busy, crazy, insane acid-trip Zanaris.

will the 99 stat be the limit for all skills PERMANENTLY?
Miserikordi replied to adunakhor's topic in General Discussion
If Jagex has really stated this many times, then they are not the elite programmers many beleive them to be. I tend to think this is either a rumor, something said to quiet people constantly nagging for a lvl cap rise, or by a moderator who only does customer support and no programming. Surely a decent programmer would realize it would be very possible to extend the level cap... Either way, raising the level cap without doing a statwipe should be a simple matter for any decently skilled programmer. Worst case scenario, they'll have to update the way the Skills page in game looks, possibly the Highscores too, and might have to take RS offline for a short while (anywhere from an hour to a day) to update the player skill database(which would require a small amount of effort to write a program to make the changes, it'd just be running for a long time). They already store an insane amount of experience in their skilll databases... I don't see this happening either, sadly. We need something that would at least show off the true levels of those people who have insane amount of experience in a particular skill, possibly add an element of prestige to a skill again. Like adding something for each level above 100 smithing that can ONLY be made by players... out of a new metal that requires high mining (like 95 perhaps) to mine. Restore some of the lost prestige to the skill, you know? -
magic secateurs, what did YOU need to make them
Miserikordi replied to henk333's topic in General Discussion
Okay, here are the 3 missing locations I saw: Fat snail -- Mort Myre swamps; kill a not-pointy snail. King worm -- gnome stronghold area; I think in the swamps. Or pickpocket the first gnome you see gnome. Red Vine Worm -- McGrubor's woods, under a red vine. Had to get these for the Fishing Contest quest too. Thanks for adding the locations. Looks nice.
