If you're too lazy to do a bit of research you shouldn't bother with the "scientific proof" found in the Bible. Scientifically, the Bible has many mistakes. Why wouldn't it, though? It's an age old book that was written before the time of modern technology. Many of the conclusions at the time (which have since been disproved) were made from simple observations by the naked eye. I feel like I'm arguing with the Flat Earth Society. :wall:

Don't be so ignorant. Take a look around you; many people who are not religious or who practice religions other than Christianity are very well off. And many Christians are not very well off. It's a hard concept to grasp, but most people in this world do good things with or without the fear of God. If Christianity was removed, people would still work together and survive as one. I don't fear death, I fear the thought of leaving this world before fully enjoying my life. What kind of crazy science is this? You just pulled that number out of your [wagon]. :-s The Hebrew word found in the original Bible, ỷ̮̫̉ma, does not mean mean "age". It can be translated to day, time, year, or, in the most general sense, period of time. For a long period of time (ie: an age) the word ỷ̮̫̉m would have been used. Either way it seems like a stretch. :| Why can't you just admit that the Bible made a mistake? PS: I realize this is all futile since many of us are so narrow minded. I'm only here to voice my opinions and to enjoy an "intelligent" debate.
  3. Have you ever met Europeans? From my experience, they are much friendlier (and more attractive) than your average American. Yep. :) The movie has a clear bias and was only meant to get people thinking about the health care in the US compared to other countries.
  4. If you want this bullying to stop, don't dress up as like an "emo". At the moment most people hate the image of a suicidal and depressed teen. Even if that's not you, you're placing yourself into the stereotype through your clothing and/or hairstyle.

Religion makes sense to us. We have explored it scientifically and intelligently. Our conclusion is that no evidence of God can be found. I would rather not slave myself to an entity which may not even exist. That would be gambling my life, in my opinion. Throwing away so much time and money to the benefit of the Church. That's a gamble I'm not willing to take. Sorry if this was over your 10 word "idiot limit". :-k
  6. My vote would have to be Sasha Baron Cohen. Here are other favourites of mine off the top of my head: - Chris Farley - Will Ferrell - Russell Peters - Dane Cook - Jerry Seinfeld - Colin Mochrie
  7. I was wondering the same thing. Great movie. Can't wait for the debating to come... :D From my understanding the person would receive the health care benefits. Although don't take my word for it, I've already proven myself an idiot when it comes to health care and government systems. :-w

That's not true. Some religions don't believe in any particular God, others believe in multiple Gods, and others feel that their God(s) can't be represented as a single, gendered entity. The only similarity between religions is that a set of beliefs exist and are practiced.

I agree with the fact that the theory is flawed. See my previous reply about the Cyclic Universe theory for more info. I think certain faiths are more rational than others. Buddhism, for one, does not have absolute belief in a single entity, and it encourages that you question everything, including its own teachings. It seems more rational than atheism.

I'm an agnostic who's recently become interested in Buddhism. :) And how was God created? The Big Bang is theoried to have started the universe, not Earth. Earth and the other planets in our solar system formed out of solar nebulae from the sun. This formation happened around 9 billion years after the Big Bang. Personally I don't believe in the Big Bang. It has too many flaws and unanswered questions. I believe in the Cyclic Universe theory: http://www.actionbioscience.org/newfron ... hardt.html Monkeys don't change into humans overnight. Evolution is a process that can take millions of years. The theory for planetary formation hasn't been disproven. It's accepted by most scientists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_formation Remember; the Big Bang theory and the theory for planetary formation are two completely different things! Many factors make our planet "unique" in the Solar System. The mass, the distance from the sun, the rotation and orbit, the moon itself, etc. For a good read on estimated numbers of life-bearing planets in the universe, see here: http://www.krysstal.com/extrlife.html Please stop writing in small text.
  11. A few years ago two NYC police officers shot 41 rounds at unarmed and innocent Amadou Diallo, killing him with 19 hits. The family sued for plenty but only ended up getting $3 million. Around the same price as the coffee case. The point is, civil suits can vary. It sickens me when people look at such a horrible event and immediately start thinking of the money the victim will make off it. :( EDIT: Also, I'd like to point out that the "spilled coffee" incident was much worse than it's been made out to be. The woman suffered 8 days in the hospital with severe third-degree burns. http://www.officer.com/online/article.j ... Section=19

Happy birthday. If mods are letting these pass, could you maybe edit titles to give us a warning? Just a suggestion.
  13. Unfortunately, the government doesn't hand out hundreds of millions of dollars to whoever loses a limb. And suing somebody will cost a lot of money and effort which may be fruitless if they can't afford a good lawyer or if the government (or theme park) decides not to pay her. I really do hope you're right.
  14. If she's lucky she might end up with a very small payment in return for her suffering. Due to the poor health care in the US, the money she receives might not even cover the hospital bills. Hopefully she's well insured. There's a chance she will be disabled for the rest of her life. Even if they manage to reattach her feet she might have recurring pain or problems which will prevent her from doing many activities that we all take for granted. This is a really tragic event. I hope she'll be able to walk again... :(

I'm not sure, but I bet it looks good when everyone's had a bit to drink. :) Here's a really good trick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW6NmLqJ ... ed&search=

Most of these will be R-rated :-$ Personally I stick to jokes or casual chatter to break the ice. Most magic tricks are hard to pull off at a party, especially if you're slightly tipsy. I have been wanting to try a couple tricks though. One is a coin trick: The other is a trick with marijuana where you "drink" the smoke: source: http://www.hempfiles.com/php/page.php?c ... d=35&id=25
  17. For the first years at high school the numbers are much lower than that. That should be pretty accurate by the end of your last year, though. EDIT: I just read this which I have a hard time believing: http://www.monitoringthefuture.org/pubs ... ew2005.pdf I've found that girls smoke as many cigarettes, if not more, than guys do. I know a lot of girls (and guys for that matter) who don't like to get drunk. All of them have their reasons; some of them are scared to try it, some of them prefer to smoke weed, and others are completely against the idea of being intoxicated.
  18. I know lots of people who've been in a relationship for much longer than that but still found in the end that it wasn't "true" love. I'm not saying it's impossible, its just not common.
  19. Yea, it's prejudice and annoying, but I believe there is reason behind it. One of the problems is that many kids so young haven't hit puberty. When somebody matures they go through a lot of mental and physical changes that might be a turn-off to their once "true" love. With teens things tend to be a lot more superficial, and people often mistake true love for a sense of attraction (usually physical attraction).
  20. This is exactly how I felt before I started with drugs and alcohol... First, It's not a waste of money at all. I can spend $10 for an all-night kegger or $20 for two hours at the cinema. Ever since I started drinking I've actually been spending less money on weekends. Second, it doesn't ruin your life. Since getting into drugs and alcohol my life has actually improved. I'm more confident, more tolerant and more social. I have a lot more respect for nature and I don't take so many things for granted anymore. I've met new people I wouldn't have met before and I'm more determined to do well in school. I want to continue this lifestyle at a university of my choice. There are lots of potheads or alcoholics who waste their lives away on illicit substances. Most people are not like that, though. PS: Just wanted to add for those who haven't heard the term.. a kegger is a party with one or more kegs of beer involved. There's usually a small entry fee.
  21. Responsible use of alcohol and drugs can really open new doors in your life. ;) Just stay away from cigarettes. I'd love to hear how. :) I'd also love to know how you can compare the two feelings since you've never tried drugs... Yea, it's a little odd like that. When I first started I hated the taste of beer and only drank it to get drunk. I now love the taste of beer, and enjoy drinking it casually at dinner. It also gives a nice buzz, which is always fun. Damn, I completely agree. I've recently been reading up on shrooms and LSD. It's fascinating stuff, I can't wait to try them. My only (minor) concern is HPPD. :ohnoes: Tracers and distortions that never go away is a scary thought.
  22. Heh, sorry, it is a big assumption. Edited. I'll be brutally honest: I don't know anything about global warming other than what I've heard in An Inconvenient Truth. #-o I'm open to new ideas. Gore believes that the majority of global warming is human-caused. Is there any notable evidence that points to other causes?
  23. I find spiders and other insects to be interesting creatures. I hate the initial shock I get when I see a bug on me or an insect flies past my ear, causing me to recoil like a maniac. :? When I have more control over the insect (ie: its in a box) then I don't really have much of a fear; I can hold them and such.
  24. It's opposite for me. :| I'd feel better knowing the animal hasn't been suffering its entire life just to taste better. Humans have been eating meat long before weapons and machines existed. Whales I'm not sure of... But I don't think too many humans eat whales. :-k I'd be a hypocrite to say I stand for animal rights, as I own a pet dog. :-# Although I do have a certain level of respect for animals, even if I enjoy eating them.
