  1. Of course, d claws are primarily a pking wep. But it seems that no matter what Jagex does with pking, the price of d claws seems amazingly resilient. Of course, when Jagex released d claws, they were ridiculously underpriced, and their price immediately shot up over 36M. Lately, the claws have been challenging that all-time high, and appear to be making a run at it again, despite Jagex's recent attempts to nerf certain tactics that employ claws. As I thought about this, though, I think the amazing resilience of the claws stems from the fact that they STILL are underpriced. As a KO wep, they are a bit overpowered. If you look at their nearest competitor (AGS), claws still sell for a fraction of the price. So what about claws? Am I right that they still are underpriced? Is there something else about them that keeps their price pushing up inspite of forces pushing the opposite direction?
  2. I really doubt these people will be banned, it's not like they can get 400k slayer exp in an hour from having two explorer's rings. Though I'm still not trying it, just to be safe. All I did was drop my cat to see if it looked funny on the ground. Are we absolutely sure this is unintended? I've had a double key ring forever, done just this way. I've always assumed Jagex wanted me to be able to do that.
  3. You make one fundamental point that is true, but uninteresting. Very little in Runescape takes any skill. It is primarily a time sink. Everyone knows this. And this is not unusual. Lots of diversions have this character. Millions of people pass their time by playing solitaire. Runescape is like solitaire, only better. The various facebook games are a lot like this, too. But while you make one somewhat accurate point, you are also fundamentally wrong in at least two ways. First, some aspects of Runescape require skill. Pking is one. Merchanting is another. Some of the minigames involve strategy. So while you are right that most of runescape involves putting in time without regard to skill, you're not entirely correct about that. Your second fundamental error is in saying that Runescape is "just a boring version of tiresome medieval chores." While it is true that some aspects of Runescape can be boring, for the most part, it is not. That is why millions of people pay to play it. Jagex has made Runescape interesting to look at. Random drops provide an element of interest. Player interaction lessens the boredom factor. Quests are anything but boring. In short, Runescape is not (at least not necessarily) boring. The truth is that Runescape is an entertaining way to pass time without the need to learn a difficult new skill. Are there more fulfilling ways for humans to pass our short days on this earth? Probably. But that sort of argument applies to other activities in which we invest untold hours, e.g., television, solitaire, etc. People need "down" time, and they find ways to get it. Runescape is a good one.
  4. FWIW, I've been flipping 3A full helms lately since their price has been stable, but I've found it increasing hard to buy them for mid, and it's near impossible now. I've had no trouble selling for max. They may be on the rise.
  5. Are you guys trying to buy santas cheap? Nothing like a crash has hit the GE yet in my experience. It took me hours to buy one on the GE for 21M. Wish I had more money so I could buy more. I'm trying to sell a 3A full helm so I can buy a couple more santas.
  6. If this is a vice, a more harmless vice is hard to imagine. This thread (and others) surprises me at how quick we are to make petty judgments about how others play the game. Whatever happened to live and let live?
  7. I'm still buying since I'm not planning to sell for a few more months. I see santas as the least risky investment in the long run. Partyhats have had an insane run. Masks are at an all-time high. I expect a very nice [bleep]e in the santa once people start dumping their masks after halloween. So if there's a dip as you predict, I'll be buying on the dip.
  8. Go to Draynor and talk to the Wise Old Man -- he'll tell you which items in your bank are useless.
  9. Sorry for the double post, but very well said.
  10. Only rares go up in the long run. Everything else goes down. If you buy something, you should assume that it will go down. I paid 2m for my first set of d legs (the going rate at the time). Now they're less than 1m. That's the way it works -- as more and more of an item comes into the game, the price goes down. So you should never buy anything (except a rare) unless you are willing to take a loss on it. It is true that before the GE you were able to avoid this inevitability by exploiting the fact that there was no efficient market and taking advantage of someone, but that's not possible anymore. You're right that manipulators drive prices up and down, but that's just a matter of time. A little patience allows you to buy on the dips and sell on the peaks, as I've explained repeatedly. That's why I say that this game can be very hard on kids -- many of them don't have the patience to avoid getting screwed.
  11. Should JaGex really be holding player's hands even more? There would be no risk in buying items when they first come out and allows people to buy any item without thinking of the consequences. Firstly, I said that, not Punitive D. Secondly, when we have manipulation clans, yes, the average player could use more help. There is lesser risk, but you don't seem to see that the player also won't get the benefit of a price rising. The consequences in question shouldn't exist in the first place, apart from the natural price fluctuations which are greatly covered up by manipulation now. This is why kids aren't supposed to be allowed to play.
  12. I don't know why kids have such a hard time understanding this -- if you don't sell it, you don't lose ANYTHING. Seriously, if you're wringing your hands over price fluctuations on items, you're too newby to buy that item.
  13. This will be true until the inevitable correction, at which point they will be buyable on the GE again. What correction? huh? As I have said repeatedly, the present rate of price increase is unsustainable. Think about it for a second -- take the present price chart on partyhats and project that forward over a year, over two years. They can't cotinue to rise at that rate. Eventually, the prices will be absurd, and people will sell. Prices will level out at the least (for a while), and probably drop a little (before going back up again). When that happens, partyhats will be buyable in the GE, at least for a while. Btw, this is likely to happen, if not before, when Jagex releases the "next big thing." Next time something like spirit shields comes out, watch people sell their partyhats to buy the new item.
  14. Lol, if you keep your items, then you don't lose anything -- you still have the item. If, on the other hand, you're worried about net worth, then sell when things go up and buy back when they go down.
  15. This will be true until the inevitable correction, at which point they will be buyable on the GE again.
  16. You apparently haven't come up against me yet because I'm the biggest noob in the game -- ask anyone.
  17. You don't have to say "hoards" like that. It's so negative. :P Just because some people enjoy having their party hats and never sell them doesn't mean they are bad people. I've been playing since 2001, with 6 phats in my bank and 21 minor rares. :P I have never sold any although I used to give them away back when we were all happy in RS Classic. :) Does that mean I "hoard"??? You're reading something that isn't there. Look again.
  18. Yes, way too many idiots buy when things are up and sell when they're down, which is what makes the price manipulators so successful. Jagex has given us all the tools we need to avoid this. It's simple. Buy on the dips, and sell on the escalations. This intelligent approach requires a little patience, which is why most kids can't do it. I have more than a dozen santas that I'm holding. I'm buying more. I might just hold them for four more months. In the end, I'll be ahead. Don't be a panic buyer or seller -- that plays into the manipulators' hands.
  19. Of course some people buy without selling. If every buyer were also a seller, as you suggest, scarcity would never increase. Most circulating phats are bought and sold by merchants, but every now and then some regular player buys one and squirrels it away in her bank. That makes the remaining circulating hats that much more rare (and expensive).
  20. I don't think that overpriced is precisely the right word; however, their present rate of growth is unsustainable. Eventually, there will be a correction. But in the very long term, they'll keep going higher.
  21. I was flipping 3A vams a couple weeks ago but I gave up when I could no longer buy for min. I'm not planning to try to flip 3A again until the buying spree is over. I'm buying Santas now -- they look underpriced to me compared to other small rares, and I'm thinking some of these end of summer liquidaters might put some of their money into a hat for the holidays.
  22. Off topic: Wannabe mods spamming the forum are a pain in the hinder parts. On topic: It seems to me that there is sufficient incentive to train to 99 (at least for most skills). 99 hunting is a huge part of the game already.
  23. In case you hadn't noticed, the moderating on these boards is a bit overly intrusive and sometimes illogical.
  24. This is exactly how I feel. I think all of these could be great diversions. (I love the circus, for example.) But I don't do any of these because I can do better by simply training the skills normally. I do the circus every week because the xp cannot be matched in the same time anywhere else. (I particularly like the agility, which is a huge pain to train.) Surely Jagex could calculate a normal training rate of xp and give these just a slight boost over the norm? I suppose that Bork is supposed to be done for the blue charms, and maybe he's good for that for a lot of people, but I get more blue charms than I can use from ordinary slayer tasks.
  25. This is key -- makes it possible to drop in for a quick kill.
