  1. Glad to be of service. Avast! shows very little if any false positives, though its web shield does tend to block the whole internet at times, and if you are getting that many false positives then I would suggest that you go in there and play with the configurations a little instead of leaving it on the default settings. In addition to that, not only is Avast! damn good at what it does, I was able to get a computer, without reformatting, back into working condition. I'll admit, AVG has gone downhill, but it still does the job it sets out to do. Of course, some files do have virus, trojan, and other of the like traits even though they aren't of the ilk, but it just means that the heuristic detection system in the anti-virus is doing its job.
  2. Thats covered in my post in powerline adapters Ah okay. I really don't see how they work though Although Transferring ones data via the powerlines may sound like a good idea, BPL suffers from extreme electro-magnetic interference resulting in large data corruption over both short and long distances and in turn this is why the effort to have any network use this method has been pretty much shelved. This is also why the internet mainly relies upon various types of standard optic fibers, which are buried in the ground to further reduce it, in order to prevent such interference. The best possible solution you have for your wireless network is to buy a wireless repeater to strengthen the signal over longer distances. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_power_transmission http://www.broadbandreports.com/shownews/46964 http://www.ionary.com/ion-bpl.html 45 and 90 degree angles are most recommended if the antenna is going to be messed with

There is also the fact that putting all your eggs into one company will also seriously impact the security of your computer.
  4. Windows 7 is really just an upgraded version of Vista, which is already going out the door, so to make a downgrade to vista would be a poor choice. If by components you mean the hardware itself....then he really doesn't have much to worry about , but if you are talking about software then he doesn't have much to worry about either. Document formats do not become incompatible just because your computer is updated...that is a result of changes in the word processors themselves. Besides, most word processors these days will try to work in compatibility mode with document formats they do not support. In terms of security, properly configuring your firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware will pretty much make any security suffrage negligible at best. Also, if security is something that you have in mind let it be known that many scientific labs are still using windows ME.
  5. Besides what else has been mentioned, you could also try buying a wireless repeater and place in the middle of the area in between your room and where your router is.
  6. /- edit (upon further thinking) Do you have have "cookies" box unchecked under the options? -/ It is a direct problem with Firefox itself and cannot be solved by doing any of the normal stuff. My suggestion would be to go back to Firefox 3.0. Here are some of the problems I have been having with Firefox as of late(v3.5.5). 1. Pages that rely heavily on javascript will sometimes fail to load properly multiple times. 2. Secondary windows that act as feeds(are applets for a site) will cause the browser to crash. -That post doesn't help him at all Clare as he clearly states that all the other sites he is visiting is working fine.
  7. Does it say JDK or JRE? The "JDK" is the Java Development Kit. which is a bundle of software that you can use to develop Java based software. The "JRE" is the Java Runtime Environment, which is an implementation of the Java Virtual Machine which actually executes Java programs. Typically, each JDK contains one (or more) JRE's along with the various development tools like the Java source compilers, bundling and deployment tools, debuggers, development libraries, etc). If it says JDK1.0.6_17 (or something along those lines), try installing the Java RunTime Environment, which is located at http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. Find the one for your OS, download, and install. I doubt you actually even need JDK, unless you're need to compile something. ;) That wouldn't be the problem woo as the JRE comes with the jdk as it is required to even run anything that you code. To go even further on this point, having more than one jre or jdk update will allow you to run legacy code that no longer works in the most recent versions. My hypothesis is that you should flush all the "runecape" files on your computer and redownload them; reply with a post if that doesn't solve the problem.
  8. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307654 I know the method in the article is complicated, but this should help you once you get a xp disk. If it doesn't help you your only remaining option will end being having to reformat; that is unless you manage to find someone with some decent hard disk cracking ability on it that can manually delete the illegal version from it.
  9. This is the good kind of necromancy. http://www.technologyreview.com/biomedicine/24020/page1/ Page 1 [hide]Scientists have long known that the human immune system has a method for detecting and destroying precancerous cells. But finding the cells behind this defense mechanism in order to study and perhaps even mimic them has proved quite the challenge. Since the malignant precancerous cells are eradicated before we even know they exist, identifying the cells that killed them seemed nearly impossible. Now European researchers have built a microfluidic biosensor that traps single immune cells together with single tumor cells, allowing the researchers to pick the most potent of these cancer killers out of a crowded field. The project, called Cell On CHIp bioSEnsor (COCHISE), was initiated by microsystems engineer Roberto Guerrieri at the University of Bologna, Italy. Guerrieri noticed that immunologists had no way to identify and isolate those rare immune cells, or lymphocytes, with antitumor properties--only about one in every 1,000 immune cells has such properties. Together with postdoctoral researcher Massimo Bocchi, Guerrieri created a microfluidics platform with an array of 1,536 microwells. In each well, electric fields force contact between a fluorescently labeled tumor cell and a labeled immune cell. An automated system then scans the array and detects wells in which the tumor cell's color has disappeared, thereby identifying the lymphocytes that are likely most effective against the leukemia and lymphoma cancers they tested. The researchers then collect the individual cells that have triumphed over the tumor cells andprovide them to immunologists for study and propagation. "Analyzing a cell we know is active is a large step for research, because you can correlate expression of cytokines or gene expression," Bocchi says. "You can then identify genetic properties that are probably responsible for the cell being active against the tumor." He notes that this could one day be used to find new drugs to fight the disease. Guerrieri and his colleagues are also working to clone entire cell lines from these single, potent lymphocytes. They plan to see if the resulting daughter cells maintain the same anticancer properties. If so, such an approach could be useful for developing cancer vaccines based on a transplant of a patient's own lymphocytes, the researchers say. Story continues below As far as the biosensor is concerned, "the design itself is not really new," says Luke Lee, director of the Biomolecular Nanotechnology Center at the University of California at Berkeley. Others have developed similar designs, although Lee notes that none are as user-friendly as the COCHISE system. Unlike the other devices, Lee says, the biosensor devised by Guerrieri and Bocchi and their collaborators offers a way to cleanly deliver cells to the chip and manipulate them. "Most demonstrations aren't as clean as this," he says. [/hide] Page 2 [hide] "It seems like an interesting technology," says Yale University hematology-oncology specialist Madhav Dhodapkar. Despite the technology's promise, however, he notes that problems can arise when tumor cells are removed from the environment that surrounds them inside the body. "We should not lose track of the complexity of cancer," Dhodapkar says. "A tumor cell separated from its microenvironment does not have the same biology, so studying interactions by taking cells out of their microenvironment has caveats." Dhodapkar still believes the technology holds great promise for immunologists, cell biologists, and other researchers. "I think the biggest advantage of this technology may very well be that it will allow an opportunity to ask really detailed questions of cell-to-cell interactions that otherwise are much harder to do," he says. "If it pans out, it could be a very useful tool. Not just for cancer but for many other platforms." That's precisely what Bocchi is hoping. "When we completed the project, we observed that the tool wasn't just for immunology but a more general platform that could run a large number of applications," he says. Among other uses, he points to gene therapy and even the study of microalgae--one of the great biofuel hopes. In 2006, just as COCHISE was getting off the ground, Bocchi started a company called MindSeeds to develop and commercialize the technology. Before it can go much further, the company still needs to find ways to scale up the technology--its automated platform currently examines only one cell at a time--and to standardize the technology so that every experiment can be repeated to yield the same results. "Because we're not bound to a specific type of cell, we can potentially address several markets, and several fields," Bocchi says. [/hide] If all goes according to plan, as per what is said in the article, cancer could be gone this century; or at least most forms of it anyway.
  10. Since you seem to be leaning toward C++ at the moment Tiigon, here are some books to help you out. Programming AI by Example Mat Buckland Large-Scale C++ software Design John Lakos Introduction to Algorithns: Second Edition Thomas H. cormen, Charles E.Leiserson, Ronald L. Rivest, Clifford Stein Effective C++: 55 Specific Ways to Improve Your Programs and Designs(3rd Edition)(Paperback) Scott Meyers Refactoring: Improving the Design of Existing Code Martin Fowler, Kent Beck, John Brant, William Opdyke, Don Roberts Design Patterns: Elements of Reusable Object-Oriented Software(Hardcover) Erich Gamma, Richard Helm, Ralph Johnson, John M. Vlissides Code Complete:A Practical Handbook of Software Construction(Paperback) Steve McConnell An Introduction to Programming with C++: Fifth Edition Drane Zack The first seven were recommended by people in the "programming" section of gamasutra. For most of the high-level languages out there, especially ones like Java and C++, it'll take you at minimum of 9-12 months of programming on a regular basis to be ready to program games. You also might want to consider programming in 2 or more at the same time to increase your ability in looping(You'll be using things like that like crazy for a game). Could you also point me to these tutorials that you have managed to find? The ones I am currently using aren't that good at all. -------------- Just like dsavi said Jard, C# is most certainly developed and maintained by Microsoft, whether or not you choose to accept it is not our problem. Concerning your comment about c++ as well Jard. You may not accept this, but most if not all games made in the video-game industry are programmed in c++ or a variant of it, so to say it does not have portability only shows your ignorance. I'll give you the point about pointers though, but that really only applies to really complex programs, like games and other scientific programs. As for your comment about Java, I'd appreciate it if you actually learned how to use the language before bashing it as any programmer worth their salt can create their own libraries for such things. Java also very much does "hold your hand" in regards to how accurate the compiler is. I'd like to see those studies you are referring to as well. ---------------
  11. You people that are spouting off about "breaking the law", do you know what the difference between civil and criminal offenses are in the eyes of the law? I also advise you to read the DMCA: as the clause that prevents you from circumventing D(igital) R(ights) M(anagement) was only recently added when the RIAA and MPAA began their holy crusade against file-sharing and as such was not in the document when it was first written in 1998. All copyright in the U.S.: http://copyright.gov/ Direct Link to the DMCA: http://frwebgate.access.gpo.gov/cgi-bin/getdoc.cgi?dbname=105_cong_public_laws&docid=f:publ304.105.pdf MLB, most EULAs are unenforceable in the court of law on the civil level; yes, I read the link you provided and that still does not negate the fact that virtual goods are of an infinite nature and in terms of copyright...copyright infringement is not equal to theft; I think you are confusing the terms trademark, there is a whole other section of law concerning trademark, and physical goods. Just because there is DRM does not negate the ability to exercise one's legal right to "Fair Use" on legally purchased goods, whether virtual or physical, and is why the clause for DRM was placed in there anyway and in effect props up a business model that is now obsolete in the age of the internet. -note: I am not advocating piracy as many people want to listen to the music before they buy it and as such there will always be a few that will want to circumvent this normal habit and never pay. As for the music converter, you are going to have to find that one on your own as the first ten pages, using this as a search term "free drm music converter", are all try and buy software.
  12. It could be what Joe has said, but I am thinking along the lines that the iso image wasn't properly burned or that the iso image that was written to the disc was too large for it.
  13. [hide] It goes man+woman man man+woman Anyone whose read up on why its because they removed a big section about Adams first wife (yes there was a woman before Eve). Similar to a lot of other things which have been changed over time and modified. People should never believe every little thing they read is true. I wouldn't surprise me if any common knowledge isn't found to be false later on. The best response I ever got about this subject (big bang and god or god at all) was; Say everything around us now was created from 2 particles colliding, how did those 2 particles come to be? I'm atheist, but the above sentence/question is enough to make an atheist think. If science has taught us you can't create something from nothing. [/hide] The contradiction that you are referring to there is the one about Lilith. > http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith >> footnotes by strongest citation >>> 59. http://feminism.eserver.org/theory/papers/lilith/ >>> 52. http://gnosis.org/lilith.htm >>> 15. http://www.matrifocus.com/LAM05/spotlight.htm [hide]Who the hell said Big Bang theory talks about particles colliding? Big Bang Theory shows that the Universe expanded from a singularity 15 bilhon years ago. Scientists don't know what caused it, but they are trying to find out though. I heard about String-Theory / M-Theory talking about our Universe ( and possible other Universes) being the result of the shock of P-Brane, but String Theory isn't proven ( Hell, String Theory is just a mathematical model that makes accurate mathematical predictions and wierd untested non-mathematical predictions), and i don't knowmuch about it, so i'm not gonna go in detail about it. And i'm not even sure if there is a "nothing" in Science. I heard that there are particles that come out of nothing and dissapear right after, coming and dissapearing all the time ( i don't know much about this though, anyone can confirm this pl0x?), not to mention how 96% of our Universe ( what we used to think was "Nothing") is now known to be made of Dark Matter and Dark Energy ( and we have no idea what the hell that is...). So, i don't know if Science taught us you can't create something from nothing, not only because particles seem to come from nothing all the time, but because i don't even know if there is a "Nothing" at all  Aargh, Physics make my head hurts :-? [/hide] When talking in the language of physics you need to be able to condition your thinking to higher dimensions; sort of like this(ignore everything else, unless you feel like reading alot, and look at the cube falling in and out on itself): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_dimension http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifth_dimension Concerning the "nothing" thing you are referring to...When physicists mention something like this they are actually referring to the quantum level of particles where many things will appear to be in 2, 3, or more places at the same time
  14. [hide] Well guess we are all [bleep]ed. Yeah I know people don't take all the bible literally but still, how many times can you ignore God killing the world or tons of people? So much picking and choosing. Although there is some good morals and values in the bible, there is just so much crap and bad stuff and it far outweighs the good. Just a random thought. Yeah. I should clarify that I don't really agree with the methods used: It tells you that you should follow certain laws, but then it uses mental terrorism to back up such claims. Surely if you just took one part of it, like, say the Ten Commandments of the Bible, and didn't consider the horror stories it uses to back them up, it would seem a bit better. But do you really believe in that religion if you take out all the bad stuff? Which is close to all of the bible. I don't really get how you can believe that religion if you need to pick and choose that much. Please, prove your words to me. Prove to me that "most" of the Bible is crap. I find it really funny how you sit there bad mouthing the Bible yet you gladly take quotes from it. Revelations was a book written to scare the [cabbage] out of people. Its the only book that i might think you could gather "crap" from and this is not because God wants to force us to love Him. Instead this is a word from people telling us that without us loving Him we will be damned. And your theory of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell, or the way God chooses who may enter heaven is the theory of a fool, a coward, an the theory of someone that tries to know it all while in actual fact he knows nothing. You sir, are making a total fool of yourself with your idiocy. God is good, God is just. I have said that many times now. He takes everything good and bad we have done when he judges us. Murderers and Rapists have their chance at heaven. There's this little thing called repenting. Its never too late, not even for you. You are dealing with a greater force than your mind can ever think of. You will never bask in glory until you bask in the glory of God. To be without religion is a fool's way of life. After all, do you think you were put on this earth simply to die? No! You were put on this earth as a test! A test of passion, love, kindness, respect, etc. Fail the test and you are damned. But if you do not fail this unfailable test then forever you can eat the sweetest fruit, drink the best wine, have all that you can desire for heaven is the city of honey and milk. Even though you deny God now, He still loves you. Sure, He is pained, but He does not give up hope. Now i suggest that you stop your bashing of religions. If not out of respect for those who love God, then out of self respect. Because a man who must insult another for for his ways and beliefs is a man who shows doubt in his own. Do not mock my God because you are insecure about your lack of a God. And as a sidenote: Jews and Muslims do not eat pork because they see it as an unholy animal. Jesus drove out demons from a girl into a herd of pigs (or something like that). That is why they do not eat pork. Also it has something to do with how the hoof is split. It has nothing to do with the fact of it spoiling in the desert. first bolding: Would you like me to pull stuff out of the bible where god commits the act of genocide? or how about the condolence of beating slaves within an inch of their life so as not to kill them, but then as long as they don't die within a certain time-frame it is okay? What about the part of being able to keep other Jews as slaves, if the slave(Jew) had a child and wife during the time he was supposed to be a slave? What about being able to sell your daughter into slavery? Or what about when god struck down the tower of Babel and then made it so that there were 1000s of languages? What about condoning the killing of innocent men, women and children and also the raping and pillaging of said company? Do I need to go on? The god of the "bible" is vindictive, spiteful, hateful, unmerciful and kills at the drop of even the slightest bit of disobedience and no the "New Testament" does not nullify the "Old Testament" as that would take the pillars out from under from the "New Testament". Second & third bolding: What you are saying there is that he is not allowed to postulate as to how this god "supposedly" determines the fate of anyone and everyone within our universe. In addition to that, not only are you saying that he is not allowed to postulate on that matter, but he is also not allowed to question the bible, or church doctrine, at all. Also, by calling him "fool", "coward", and other names like that only proves that you do not know how to address an argument where a valid question was asked. Going into the third bolded part now. Not only that, but you call not "believing" in a "god" that is supposedly omnipotent, omnipresent, omnibenevolent, and among other things, a "fool's way of life", especially when there is no supporting evidence outside of said source called the "bible"; this is the very definition of close-mindedness that you are accusing atheists of(you might not have actually said, but it was implied). fourth & fifth bolding: You sir are a hypocrite. final bolding: Someone didn't read the link I posted before that, which did make mention of the "unholy" part. Also, it does have something to do with the fact that meat spoils extremely quick in desert conditions. Why else would you find that, predating refrigeration, nearly "all" meat was smoked in the desert? I suggest you quote, directly out of the Bible( Book name and verse) where exactly you got your information from. I can assure you that you won't find anything to back up what you have said in the first part. You will however find that God struck down the tower, but this was after multiple warnings have been given. And to question the Bible shows lack of faith and trust in God. Do you question your mother's love for you? No, you trust that she means it when she says it. It is very much the same when God tells you he loves you (although God does it in other forms). And no i admit i did not read the link you posted. I really have no intrest in it to be quite honest. Although i did give it a quick glance and i saw something about it saying that Christians do not eat pork? This is false. But please, do send me those quotes. I am dying to see what rubbish you come up with next. Also, i would really much like it if someone could point me in the direction of a book/video or something that will prove to me that evolution is a fact. And when i say this i mean i want a description from the actuall Big Bang to the first cell and then each and every cell after that untill Human. Please and thank you. [/hide] Remember, you signed your death warrant here. These verses cannot be explained away as they are in there black and white. First bolding: Christians are still bound by the "Old Testament" as well as the "New Testament" so them not supposed to be eating pork is correct on a technicality. Second Bolding: Asking for that is extremely unreasonable as at our current technology level it cannot be done in its entirety(computers simply aren't powerful enough yet). So...in effect you want a completed tree of life up to the point, I'm also assuming you want it for other worlds too, where humans began appearing. There are two main reasons for this. 1. Time cannot be wound back based upon the laws of physics in this universe. 2. Early fossils are exceedingly rare, trilobites are an exception, and for most we only have imprints of what once remained. At this point Gorgoroth, based on your grammar suddenly improving, I am under a hunch that you...actually this will get through to you much better. This is a classroom analogy [hide]A teacher is trying to teach a classroom full of kids the multiplication table and the teacher decides to use flash cards. On the day it begins the teacher holds up a flash card that says "2 x 3" and one of the children reply with the answer of 8, saying that the "3" is a "4". The teacher tells the child that the answer is wrong and tells the child that the number "3" is not a "4". The child then goes on to say that she heard this from another child's mother whom said it was a "4" and then proceeds to say that the teacher is calling her friends mother a liar. The teacher then proceeds to get a larger flash card with the same problem and then shows it to the class, but this time the child looks away, in effect this causes all the other children to look away as well, as well as cover their eyes while saying, "it's a trick, it must be a trick don't look at the cards everyone". [/hide] Can you guess what this analogy has in common with you Gorgoroth?

  16. How can the Abrahamic god run them all when most religions come into direct contradiction of each other in almost every case? I'm not sure what you mean by that. Do you mean that they are like two opposing parties, liberals and conservatives, and just choose the opposite of what the other says? And likely because the people who follow that religion have different interpretations. It's like God had a big meeting with people from say, 60 different cultures, and each one of them wrote down something different. That's really just a situation though. The one prevailing theme is that you should be nice and not do bad or nasty things. Unless there is a religion that calls for exactly that, but most of the time we call those cults. Are you just making this up as you go? The situation? Yes. Which is why I clearly said: "That's really just a situation, though." As in, it's an example of a hypothetical happening. Most of the rest of it seems like stuff that anyone could see. Actually, I wouldn't know if anyone of them believe they actually talked to God. I don't know where they get there specific beliefs like not being able to eat pork or beef. It's likely that those details were proven in the original founders of those religions' eyes by coincidences. This should answer your question quite thoroughly GaVaTi. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080215072901AAilgoi Another reason for not eating pork or beef was due to the fact that, in desert conditions, meat spoils very quickly without, in some way, being preserved(i.e.: salting( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt-cured_meat )).
  17. How can the Abrahamic god run them all when most religions come into direct contradiction of each other in almost every case? There isn't as much unity as you seem to think GaVaTi when you take into account that there are easily over 30,000 different sects of christianity alone(this is in reference to them not being able to agree on the interpretation of the bible). As for the second bolded part...I would rather commit suicide than to not be honest with myself and others around me.
  18. [hide] Not only can any video about the supernatural be discounted, but with today's technology, videos dating pre-1990 had a miniscule amount of this tech, anyone can add anything to any video that they so choose with programs like: http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp, http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro, and a myriad of other programs of similar capability. With the History channels budget, this is completely within their realm of power. By editing videos in this way I am, of course, talking about superimposing: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&defl=en&q=define:superimpose&ei=ZBX-StT-Es-_lAfX0ayZCw&sa=X&oi=glossary_definition&ct=title&ved=0CAgQkAE I hate to tell you gorgoroth, but when it comes to scientific articles on wikipedia, discounting articles concerning that the general public tends to care about(i.e.: celebrities, politicans, people in general, etc...), they tend to be spot on and if the articles themselves are not good enough you can always check, in the case of scientific stuff, the footnotes for peer-reviewed articles that do not just summarize what the topic is. University professors, although they discourage the use of wikipedia itself, do not discourage the use of the footnotes cited within the articles themselves, which very often the wikipedia articles are based upon. You telling me to read some scientists article is like me telling you ro read the Bible. They were both writen by men. The one is backed up by science (something created by God) and the other is backed up by eye-witnesses/humans (created by God). So in the end you're just telling yourself that you are wrong. [/hide] Okay...ignoring what you just said, what have you offered, outside of circular logic(http://www.numeraire.com/download/WhatIsCircularReasoning.pdf), to back-up your claims, discounting anecdotal and secondary accounts, concerning the evidence of the "supernatural". Whether or not you choose to accept any criticism from said sources is not our problem, but a problem that persists with the big three today(i.e.:Christianity, Judaism, Islam(all of which are the Abrahamic god "Yahweh".)). Here is a chance to learn some things about your religion(as usual you can check the footnotes if you do not trust the wikipedia article): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea That link denotes how the bible, in its current form today, was cannonized. The one most people read in the western countries today is the King James version, which occurred when a "Pope" would not allow him to divorce his then current wife. In addition to that, here is something on "Mithra" or "Mitra". http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/deadangelsrot/mithra.html

  20. No, because they aren't real. But there is proof of their existance. Alot of proof. Concrete proof. If there is such proof, bring it to the table so it can be evaluated based on the merits of authenticity. You also need to consider, when putting forth such evidence, that we humans tend to create hallucinations when we are in states of mourning, fear, rage, etc... At this point, with all the evidence that has been presented to you, this is what you are doing. [hide][/hide]

  22. Beings as it is an Nvidia graphics card there should be a "control panel" for you to access. In windows xp it could be accessed through right-clicking on the desktop. It could also be accessed by going to the device manager, finding your nvidia card, and then open it up from there. The easiest way to open it up though is start > run > nvcplui[Caution: Executable File].
  23. The problem with Vista is that it created quite a few problems for older games and in effect they don't run all that well on it. This can be easily solved by adding Windows XP(64 or 32 bit) as a dual boot option. Here is a list of quite a few games that are compatible with Vista at this time. http://www.thinktechno.com/2007/03/13/list-of-vista-compatible-games/ The only real thing you can do is to set your graphics card to performance only, this will erase most of the problems, and the other thing you can do is upgrade to DirectX 11.0. http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/aboutGFW/pages/directx.aspx If none of the above suggestions solve the problem then nothing short of modifying the windows code yourself will solve the problem

  25. Actually, Y2K was a real possibility, but it didn't occur, at least nothing like the media portrayed was going to happen(or was ever likely going to happen) , all it entailed is that the way internal clocks were handled by computers at the time had to be fixed or most would have crashed.
