Drugs do not equal freedom! I literally laughed my [wagon] off when you said this! You simply become a slave to the drug dealers and the criminals that supply you with your 'fix'! Hippes are a good thing, however if we were all hippies, nothing would get done! We'd sit in drum circles and smoke pot all day, while the drug dealers and mobsters controlled our government. Pot makes you slow and thoughtless, my friend! If half the population was high, the government could do basically whatever it wished, while supplying the *cough* anti-depressants *cough* that kept the masses perfectly content! Perhaps you are secretly for the government you so utterly despise..? It's great that you take whatever the government tells you 'with a grain of salt', yet your so trusting of drugs! I am more interested in hearing alternate viewpoints based on literature sources to counter my points than just hearing silence or trying to obliterate those who say things like "we're not the cause of it". I'm also more interested in hearing alternate viewpoints based on literature sources over someone's opinion as if it's solidly based in fact or as if it really matters (especially when it's a statement with no reasoning behind it). There are people who get paid to study this. There are people who learn the science for years to get thier doctorates. There are people who work maticulously on reports which go through the criticisms of others in peer review. The end product is unsurpassed knowledge. It may be right, it may be wrong, but it's more reliable than any abstract opinion anyone may just happen to have, I'm quite certain of that. Everyone gets knowledge from somewhere, it's a necessity of knowing anything. I just prefer getting mine from teachers, lecturers and scientific journals rather than news tabloids, the media, hype or straight "it feels right" opinion. Please don't bite me, I actually agree with you!

This is a good example of the media's influence on the general public. As far as harm goes... Lots of things are potentially harmful. Driving a car can be potentially harmful. Playing a sport can be potentially harmful. But... the media shows those activities in a different (more positive) light than drugs. Wrong. I just sat through hours of scare tactics in driver's ed. Playing a sport simply doesn't compare to the lethal effects of drugs, it's in a completely different category. Who would have guessed...? :-w Exactly. All drugs HARM you.
