  1. It's definitely not new and not something that I think is "did you know" worthy, but it does surprise me if it's not listed anywhere in the guides. It's not a viable training option, unless you're training herblore at a lower level, but still, in the interest of completion, it should be listed SOMEWHERE.
  2. Just finished The Path of Glouphrie quest and checked the drops for the three birds at the end. They're a little off. The first dropped bones and 37 feathers. The second dropped bones and 164 gold. The third dropped bones and 25 Earth runes. Amazing storyline in that quest...Hazelmere making the decision to sacrifice himself in WGS...great finish...
  3. A little woodcutting, a little firelighting, and level 79 came along and after using Penguin Hide & Seek points to take care of more than 31k experience, I was able to cross another task off the list. [hide=10 Beacons Lit][/hide] After 10 beacons were lit, I was able to more quickly train the rest of the way to Magic pyre logs... [hide=Firemaking at 80][/hide] Sorry if I kept you awake with all the light!
  4. Examine the cabbages you were using...
  5. I think all logs give the same experience, but new question along those lines...do the bonuses "stack"? For example: for the first one you get 608.4 (plus the experience for lighting whichever beacon you light, say Edgeville at 86.7 experience) So after lighting one, you have 695.1 experience. You light a second beacon (say the one North of the Grand Exchange for 194.3 experience)...what do you now have after lighting the beacons? Do you get a full additional 1622.4 experience for having two lit at the same time to make 2511.8 experience (in my example) or would it only be 1903.4 experience (because you already got the 608.4 added)? I hope I'm making myself understood and not confusing everyone... EDIT: I did a short test of exactly this example and it appears that not only does it stack, but using the ring of fire and flame gloves stacks with it....holy cow...
  6. On a different note, does lighting the beacons get you experience equivalent or in proportion to the logs you use? Is the bonus static or does it change depending on whether you have used yews or magics. If it's static, then it would seem to pay to use cheaper, more common logs to train in the beacons by lighting five easy ones, letting them burn out, then lighting again...right? (I still would like help with that Macaw pouch thing...I did manage to make a run of 10 with yews in the beacons, not having to restock or give extras to keepers at all, but it's something I'm curious about)
  7. If there was a way to tie it to our forums log-in, I'd be for it. Log in to the forums and click from here on a button that takes us to a mirrored quest page maybe? I'm not a programmer, but every time I clear my cache I've had to re-click. Now that I've completed a large portion of them, I thank goodness for the check/uncheck all button. It's much easier to uncheck the ones I haven't done.
  8. You haven't said what quests you'd be willing to do, but as a frequent slayer, this is what I've found. First, more monsters assigned will mean more charms. For that reason, I think doing tasks with Chaldear would be good. None of them are that tough. I would definitely do Smoking Kills as soon as possible, even if you don't really want to or think it's a hassle. Once you DO do it, you'll see why. Getting those points opens a few things that I think have been game changers for me. First and foremost, the Ring of Slaying. Since you already have a black mask, you might put all possible points toward learning how to craft those first BUT ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE NECESSARY CRAFTING LEVEL. If not, get that Slayer Helm crafting technique first and if you have the necessary Fletching level, then the broad bolts and arrows. If you already have the Crafting level needed or are close, those rings open up entirely new possibilities, not the least of which is teleport access to the Fairy Ring Teleport network, and a nice semi-renewable teleport into the middle of the desert. Barrows gloves are great, but I made it without them for a long time until I finally got off my rear and completed Desert Treasure. My set-up varies with the assignment. Most of the time, I "prayered" up...especially for the tougher monsters. Even and especially if you don't care about cost, prayer potions would be a lot cheaper than fancy gear and quicker than food. For those monsters that deal two different kinds of damage, gearing up for magic defense and praying melee seems to work. There are some monsters that can be easily dispatched without prayer and for those, even simple Rune platebody, Rune platelegs can get you buy. When I am simple slaying (easier monsters), I'll have equipped: [hide=Straight up slayin']Helm/ Slayer helm Body/ Rune platebody Legs/ Rune platelegs Gloves/Barrows gloves Boots/ Fremennik sea boots 3 Necklace/ Amulet of glory Cape/ Obsidian cape Ring/ Ring of wealth Shield/ Dragon sq shield[/hide] I didn't always have the Slayer helm, so a Black mask or Helm of neitznot are alternatives. If you can improve on the body and legs, you COULD, but I think those did fine for me. When I used to be on tasks, it would always be the Combat bracelet instead of Barrows gloves, those are a recent addition. Combat bracelet is fine, but you could go with Klank's gauntlets or something if you really wanted to...those are free from a quest and I used them for a long time. The cape...before I bought an Obby cape I would have the Cape of legends on and sometimes even just my Spotted cape (don't have access to Spottier yet). Boots...kind of the same thing...for a long time I just dealt with Fremennik sea boots 2 (underrated IMO) or even Boots of lightness. I would buy an Amulet of fury, but I don't really see a need and got by with the Ammy of glory. Ring of wealth...better drops, but sometimes I'd put on the Ring of slaying (it's either there or in my inventory with a Lunar staff) if the monster didn't have rare drops worth my time. Dragon square is great, but you could upgrade if you had the cash, or get by with a Rune kiteshield like I did until the miracle Dragon left half drop I got from Black knights. If I'm praying against one type of attack: [hide=Praying]Helm/ Proselyte sallet Body/ Proselyte hauberk Legs/ Proselyte cuisse Gloves/ White gloves Boots/ White boots Necklace/ Guthix stole Cape/ Obsidian cape Ring/ Explorer's ring 3 Shield/ Falador shield 3[/hide] With substitutions possible wherever you need. Buying better versions would be better, and if you have the Slayer helm and Barrows, those are obvious substitutions, with Combat bracelet still making an appearance from time to time on tasks I want to know about for restocking purposes. Ranging: [hide=Ranging it]Helm/ Archer helm Body/ Black d'hide Legs/ Black d'hide Gloves/ Barrows gloves Boots/ Snakeskin boots Necklace/ Amulet of glory Cape/ Ava's accumulator Ring/ Ring of wealth Shield/ None or Unholy book Weapon/ Crystal bow full or Rune crossbow[/hide] It gets easy with tasks I can range. I'm sure there are better boosting possibilities, but again, my tasks go quick and I don't see the need. Put the cash toward bolts or better boosting equipment as you can. Sometimes I just need a good magic defense and don't pray: [hide=Magic defense]Helm> Bearhead or Slayer helm Body/ Black d'hide Legs/ Black d'hide Gloves/ Black [bleep]y vambraces Boots/ Silly jester boots Necklace/ Amulet of defence > Amulet of glory Cape/ Obsidian cape Ring/ Lunar ring > Beacon ring Shield/ Mind shield[/hide] In those rare cases, this set-up gets me through with minimal food or prayer. I know it's a lot to look at and you're under no obligation to read any of it, but I have done a lot of slaying. As has been mentioned, do Smoking Kills ASAP...if you use Chaldear, you shouldn't have to block anything. Just remember to Duradel or Sumona (if you're not 100 combat) the 10th and 50th tasks. Even if you have money to spend, spend it where it will really make a difference. At least, that's what I do.
  9. Are they worth the hassle? Is it a one-time payment that I can make to each keeper (similar to the necessary one-time payments to get a couple of them to watch at all) or is it something that must be given each time you make a run and only when the beacon is lit? I can't seem to find any definitive notes on them...
  10. You didn't put me off...no worries. I do get excited when others find the same parts of the game amusing as I do, but that's about all that it was. The Archive of Wisdom does have a guide, but looking at it, it looks a little out-of-date, or something. I'd be more interested in seeing your info. One of the things I think is missing from most guides I've seen (and I've done only limited research since you posted here) is the difference for rewards based on type of pyre log used. I don't think anyone wants to waste 50 Vyrewatch remains on Teak pyre logs...or anything other than magics. That drop log I mentioned might not be of any use to you in any other case, since I can't burn magic pyres yet. Suffice it to say, I haven't gotten many unbelievable drops...unless it has nothing to do with the rewards (which I'd think it would). I'll just wait for your information to be posted and comment then and there. I think we're in agreement that the old guides are in need of update.
  11. All I was doing was confirming it. The crew wants users to do so, especially for things like this. This sticky tells why.
  12. I don't know...the in game guide says that I needed a mithril hatchet...even if it were the case, both an adamant and rune hatchet (not to mention a dragon hatchet) would be far too valuable to lose in the transformation. You can't cut anything except those Draynor trees with the blessed hatchet. I finished the quest long ago, but as I mentioned, the in game help guide says "I needed to collect a holy symbol of Saradomin and a mithril hatchet..."
  13. It totally is a secret... It's the first rule of RuneScape... Don't speak about RuneScape...
  14. skeletal wyvern? I don't know...
  15. Add the end to the Piscatoris unlocking quest 'Swan Song' to the "and such" portion...
  16. One of my new least favorite skills to train that I feel I must train is Firemaking. It's tedious and involves clicking over and over again and at best, costs ridiculous amounts of time or money. Since I want better rewards from Vyrewatch killing... [hide=You better 'Vyrewatch' out!][/hide] ...I need to get to level 80 Firemaking, which means that it's going to be my next skill to that plateau. Oh, yes...it will indeed. Speaking of plateaus: [hide=All your skills are belong to 60...][/hide] I reached the level 60 plateau for skills with my weekly trip to Juna. It wasn't a particularly fantastic bowlful, but it was enough to get Summoning to level 60. With that level, I don't think I will strictly observe my "no training ban" any longer. I won't be training in large amounts, but I think it might make some training activities easier if I can make my own familiar pouches and use them indiscriminately. I don't see it making a big difference at this point, but we'll see. One of those necessities in Firemaking is logs, and cutting them and "power burning" has become my method of choice. The benefit of cutting and not buying the logs is the experience...well, literally, not figuratively. It's still a boring chore. [hide=Wow...the great new 'benefit' of 82 Woodcutting...not!][/hide] I expect to use my Penguin Hide & Seek points this week on Firemaking, but only AFTER I've reached level 79. The points will go to better use at a higher level, plus, I'll be able to light ten beacons and get the Fire gloves to train slightly quicker. Circus won't get me enough points for new levels, but I had been training my Ranged skill early in the week, just for kicks, and earned the ability to wear Morrigan's gear. I have no desire to use said ability, but it was a nice change from seeing the blank 'level up' screen. I got rid of all my remaining archery tickets to free up a bank space and did a little reorganizing to make sure I had enough space for some new raw materials. To be honest, I don't know what I'd do without a POH and all the magic wardrobes, racks, and chests!
  17. I know the crew has special guides for special beasts and that they're interested in some of the information on the Ramble/Trek minigames. If you check out the main WUC forum, you'll probably see some submissions that need confirmation. Anyone can help do stuff like that, not just crew. It's how I've supplemented my game play....trying to be helpful...like I have seen you do! I understand the desire to work on ones stuff on their own, but I'm not looking to steal credit, so if you ever change your mind, let me know! EDIT: The crew does check the boards quite often, so I'm sure they'll see your posts. I don't know if they'd want a separate guide, since it's closely tied to the Temple Building minigame. Personally, I think this is one of the parts of the site that could use expanding, especially since great rewards do exist with little risk (if using my prayer technique in a high 110 Vyrewatch yield spot). I was going to post drop logs that I have, but you've asked me not to...
  18. Level 78 ranging, rapid attack, no void or ranging potions or boosts... Level 78, black bolts max - 19 Level 78, runite bolts max - 24
  19. Rien...I am very much interested in helping you with your guide. I fight the good fight against the Vyrewatch whenever I am looking for something to do, so if there is anything I can do to help you, let me know. I have only cremated a few dozen of them so far, but I do hope to someday get to that 500 level. I'm completely and utterly impressed that you've done so many!
  20. Mudskipper? Huh...can't you go all the way down there in F2P?
  21. One of the things I always wished celebrities could do more is respond directly to fans in a timely manner. I haven't done a great job of responding to comments in my blog, so this is an effort to catch up and answer people as directly as I can. Thanks! I am, slowly, but surely... I remember this was your very first post on TIF! I was, and still am, honored! Thanks! My ToG scores have been up and down, but I'm proud of my "records" on at least one minigame! I think they're pretty good. I respect everyone's opinion though... Thanks! It's always nice to be recognized and read by Tip.It Crew members! Sorry...I do have a tendency to "tell it like it is" or at least, as it is to me. I think I'm pretty fair about any comments I do make. This information was somewhat interesting, but I was much more concerned with how much playing time I would be able to get in. I like "free" experience, so I saved the quests for a long time and only recently started completing more of them. I did find the 'experience-per-tear' especially useful in knowing when I'd be leveling up. I've done basically the same thing. I've used it on skills that are especially hard or boring for me to train. It has served me well. Right now, I'm planning on using the next couple of weeks on Hunter. It's just such a boring thing to train, in my opinion. After getting full wardrobes of circus outfits, I admit that I did stop attending the circus. I didn't realize the sheer amount of experience I was missing out on! Thanks to pokemama, I got set back on track! Just recently, I 'upgraded' from Varrock armour 2 to Varrock armour 3, so making all those staves is going to be a little more tedious, but a lot more profitable! I did end up defeating Bork, several weeks after you suggested I might have been ready and you were right! It wasn't as dangerous as I had thought, but I still underprepared a little for that trip, which is totally out of character for me! I hated Slayer tasks at first, until I started earning the points for completing tasks. Now, with all three special lessons learned from the Slayer masters (how to make a Ring of slaying, how to fletch broad arrows and bolts, and how to make a Slayer helm), I find the tasks much better for advancing those melee skills, as you mentioned. I think it's one of those things you kind of have to figure out on your own. Thanks for the advice, though...it was right on! The only downside to fighting this guy daily is the necessity for a dose of antipoison. It's almost too easy to skip each day! You're right about all of the above. Managing Thy Kingdom is a huge benefit, especially and almost exclusively after Royal Trouble (I did both quests on the same day!). Shooting Stars and now Evil Trees are nice things to come across in daily gaming, but not things that I've often sought out on purpose. Farming...I have been slow and steady, making runs every day, and proudly rank myself among some of the best non-grinding farmers out there. Thanks for the kind words! They're always appreciated, especially from long-time crew! No worries. You're under no obligation to read the whole blog, but I would consider criticism more from people who show they have. Thanks for reading even a little of it! I'm flattered! Thanks so much for the kind words and I hope you have indeed been checking back. If not, that's fine, of course! Blue, you're lovely. Having you comment on my blog makes me feel like I've officially arrived! I did...I don't often, but I made an exception for a reliable crew member and long-time reader! I know, I know...bad puns are fun, though! I did finish the task soon after I wrote the blog entry you mentioned, but I think it was in part due to your well wishes! No? Well, that's what I'm goin' with... It should be re-named the "RuneScape AmEx Card" because I rarely leave a bank without it! Thanks! I haven't read many blogs, but I usually try to read blogs of people who post in mine, partly out of courtesy and partly out of curiosity. Got 'em (the Mithril Dragon kill was a memorable moment in my RuneScape history)! My current task happens to be Waterfiends, so I guess I'll find out what you meant by collecting charms. Thanks for the continued thoughts! I love your blog, by the way... Hi! Welcome! Hope you like TIF in general and my blog specifically! Thanks! The main reason I keep a blog is for personal goal statements and record keeping on the internet, but I wouldn't spend so much time on it if I didn't want others to enjoy it! I use him on every "bonus" task, but not in between. I COULD use him, but I find it much more satisfying to get the bonus points, and though I don't have anything else to spend large amounts on anymore, I still go to Mazchna for the first 3-5 tasks after a bonus, then Chaldear for a couple, maybe mix in a Sumona task, then when it comes to bonus time (every 10 and 50 tasks), it's off to Duradel (since I have been 100 combat, of course). I honestly didn't realize that my point totals were that good. I do think that you get more time in the cave by completing more quests. I think a good tactic is to make the screen as large as you can and pay attention to the blue streams of tears. You don't want to click on one that has been "flowing" for a long time and don't want to have to click on one across the cavern when you can click on one close by. I usually try to visit Oo'glog's salt pool before the visit to the cavern and make sure I have run turned 'on' before talking to Juna. I've had mixed results with being patient and waiting to see if a blue flow that disappears comes back as blue without having to move because it comes up green. Sometimes I get really great results, but obviously, I'm not posting the 130s and 140s that I sometimes get. I had thought about doing this in the past, but I decided against it. First, my bank changes pretty regularly, and I'm kind of a perfectionist. I go and edit all my stats and goals as I finish them, so editing and updating pictures of my bank would be a lot more work than I want. I also don't really have anything interesting. If I ever write an entry about bank organization, I'll include pictures. I once had one of those nice graphical self-updating signatures when they came out, but before that, I edited my own stats in. I'm kind of nostalgic for that method, plus, I like a little privacy and didn't like how the stat signatures had no option for taking off my player name. It's not THAT big of a deal, but it's something I'm going to stick with, at least for the time being. Thanks again! I hope you keep coming back! I'm glad you like it! Thanks for the kind words! Thanks again to all my readers! I won't promise that I'll keep up with my replies, but this was, and continues to be, an experiment! I hope everyone continues to enjoy my writing!
  22. Your drops are impressive...thanks for the kind words on my blog. Good luck with your gaming!
  23. It doesn't seem to be worth burning higher logs. If you were burning, say, normal logs, then I think you still get the bonuses for lighting consecutive beacons which means burning low level logs is more efficient with the beacons, but stuff like yews and magics and even maples probably wouldn't be worth it. I'm sure there's a way to plot it on a graph where the curve would be greater with the lowest logs, but I'm not interested in making one up. Short answer, if you're training by lighting close together beacons with low fm experience logs, then yes. If you're just straight up trying to train, then it's gonna take longer.
  24. Be nice! :) Of course, you will! Congratulations!
  25. No problem! Glad to help. I am not sure why it's small, but clicking on it does get you to the larger image. Perhaps one of the forum mods might know why...or perhaps it has to do with the specific code from that image... [hide=Your image][/hide] I'm not sure, because it seems to have worked for me.
