  1. Ah, that's a bit of a nuisance! The problem appears to be that by using that workaround it requires the enabling of Active Desktop which consequently disables the functionality of drop-shadows and transparency on icon-labels. Searching a bit doesn't seem to provide many workarounds to this. If you're not requiring Active Destop, an alternative I suppose would be to use a utility for managing multiple monitors. I've always found UltraMon to be pretty well recommended, but that requires purchasing. A nice free alternative I've used before is DisplayFusion. That is if you're fine using another program to control it. :)
  2. 'Edit' is a fairly ambiguous term, would probably help for you to specify a bit more about what you need exactly. I've had quite a bit of experience with setting up forums so I may be able to give you a hand depending on what you need. :)

  4. Although I'm not active in many dev-related forums, the many that I've seen from searching for solutions seem to have this quite a lot. I suppose it could be a bit of a different story as, well, these programming / development related forums will be a lot less prone to having troll-like figures and immature kids causing less havoc alongside the sharing of information. It's also true that it's much easier to see the negative-results of having a feature like this in news stories / blog-posts etc, whereas actually seeing positive outcomes is quite difficult to monitor and actually show. I really think it depends on the category of the forums, general maturity of users etc. For me, that rules out Runescape's Forums but others it could be a positive step. ;)
  5. If you're wanting the best experience too and not bothered about really intensive training, Zarfot posted a video about superheating gold at Edgeville whilst smelting here :- watch?v=qy-Tra5zouw. Pretty crazy stuff, and claims 2100+ smelts per hour is possible, but always an option! ;)

I don't know what it's like on the Mac, but on Windows you're required to enable the option "Hold down CTRL to speed up and SHIFT to slow down" and hold down the CTRL key when pressing a key in order to produce a 'jump' rather than simply a small movement. Perhaps there's a similar option? Edit : From looking around a little, it appears that it's quite a requested feature for the Mac's MouseKeys abilities - but looks like there isn't any key to 'jump' by default.

Ranks were a nice motivation for me when training Runecrafting, and trying to get below 500 was nice motivation when trying to get 20M experience, but other than that I really didn't keep track of ranks much. I do train for levels, but ranks aren't overall motivation now other than a nice thing to see decreasing. :)
  8. That's quite true - although yea, Quyneax, I think you're right in that Jagex wouldn't implement this kind of thing - but I didn't think about those would seek vendettas for things like PKing... Good point. ;)

The problem with this is that in many cases, especially the situation in the UK at the moment, employers have strict filtering in a lot of situations and won't give you the chance to speak up for yourself. If they see anything that has stereotypes of wasteful time, immaturity or any such sort - they may well just drop your application. Naturally, claims may be different, but it's fairly apparent it's as such. ;) This kind of goes both ways for me - on the one hand I think it 'could' act as a deterrent for the spam, immaturity and general nonsense that plagues the forums due to the anonymity they present. Yet, I think in some ways those who are repetitively 'troll-like' will do it regardless of people being able to find out their address or phone number. The personal-touch may not be enough to combat that. I also think that as a game, especially as an RPG, RuneScape's obviously got an underlying tone of 'being' your character. When you play, or post, you're posting 'as' your character. (Forum avatars only help to enhance this feeling). By putting your 'real-name' on the forum it pulls away from that concept of 'being' your character that quite a few seem to seek in these types of games. It could also be relatively difficult to provide actual verification of this, as many have said already. If the feature wasn't mandatory, then it would in many ways invalidate the whole aim of the process. But if it helped contribute to making the forums a better place, I'd be all for it! :)

I don't believe you can, but if it's a recent name-change you could always attempt to add the previous-name on any account in-game, and if the name has been changed then you'll see the new name on the friends list instead, even if the account is offline / on private. After this you can then search the hi-scores using the new name. :) For the other things, I really can't help - sorry! I've never had to recover an account let alone have to battle for ownership of it against some pesky individual, good luck with it though!
  12. You've downloaded the source-code, that's not really needed unless you are wanting to inspect it. The installer is the .msi link which you should be able to find quite easily too. (At the Click Here to Download part). If you want the direct link it's here. It's interesting that Jagex have released it under the GNU, but there's nothing very interesting there - the client itself is simple enough and the majority of the source-size is due to the OpenJDK packaged with it, although partially modified by Jagex it's small fixes for the most-part.
  13. Ah well, that's all good then! :) C++ is a compiled language, in that the source-code that you write has to be compiled by the compiler into another form before it can be executed. In this case, it should compile it to an executable file. (From the image, "Junk[Caution: Executable File]") What this means is that whenever a change is made to the source-code, the code that you write, that needs to be re-compiled to form the executable that you run to actually launch the program. However, as I'm not sure on Dev-C++ it could well be that that's all essentially done in the background without it being apparent, in a similar fashion to how most IDEs do it with Java, it still compiles but you don't need to do anything in the command-line sense. :)
  14. I've not got much experience with Dev-C++, but from that my immediate question would be - are you recompiling the modified source-code and running the appropriate compiled executable to test it? It could well be you're running an old one and hence just getting the old results.

  16. Definitely seems like the right forum, always cool to see someone starting to program. What you will want to do though is really highlight your problem. From what I can tell, the output all makes sense. It's requesting a number, choosing a random power then displaying the output value of the number to that power, then stating what it did. I can't quite tell what it is that was working before, and yet isn't now. Another thing that dramatically helps anyone looking to help is posting the source-code of the program. That way we can look through it and find the issue rather than guess-work. ;)
  17. C'mon Paw, you can tell that it's an implication as to the tone of your comments on using a Dictionary. It's all fair and well, even preferred to give a solution which allows later use but making people feel inadequate alongside it isn't so great. ;)
  18. I would say Qeltar's post is speaking exactly my mind too. I made the mistake earlier on in my playing to grind away at skills before taking the initiative to simply train the skill I enjoyed and wanted to challenge myself with, that's what's important about the choice you make, not other's opinions on the matter.
  19. Reminds me of Silkroad Online where you would have micro-payments for small 'pets' that would run around picking up items that you've specified it to, and leave the others. Man, did you get lazy after using that for a while though, even so - it was cool to have... Probably not the best thing to introduce to RuneScape though. ;)

    Literature

    I've just recently finished reading Dexter In the Dark, after having watched the series and I must say - the book was an amazing read, far more insightful than the series and such a great read. (How often that's the case. ;)) Will definitely be getting the other two. I thought I should throw a few other books out there that I'd read and see if others had / recommend them. Two previous series that I've read not too long ago have been :- Tales of the Otori - Lian Hearn. The Old Kingdom Trilogy - Garth Nix. These two were fantastic, the Tales of the Otori was a lovely read, very well written and a fantastic story-line. I particularly enjoyed the first part, Across the Nightingale Floor. The Old Kingdom Trilogy is an intriguing fantasy series set around a magical concept. A very interesting plot as well as some great characters in it - would recommend it to any fantasy lovers. (Although of-course fantasy is a huge genre, very subjective even in itself!)
  21. I'd agree with the others in saying that I don't think this is really the way to go. Qeltar rightly pointed out that the money obsession is not a good development for the game and this would only encourage that. If anything, I'd prefer for them to find methods to make the need for cash less, but I've got no thoughts on how or even if that'd be possible with the current stage the game is at.

    Another awesome episode! :) Quite the ending too! [spoiler=Spoiler] You may well be right about Shaw, seeing as lately it's been very centred on the Intersect's corruption of the mind. Obviously that could also tie in with 'the governor'. ;) I must admit, I enjoy the episodes with Chuck's father. He's got that intelligent, eccentric persona which he plays really well! It seems quite a few are expecting someone important to be killed off - really not sure who it would be, most of the characters really have such a good impact on the series. :unsure:
  24. Well, the Ibis lasts 38 minutes, so you're looking at roughly 2 hours of fishing per bank trip (or 2.5 if you summon a new one at the bank and take 3 pouches). To me, if the boost has even a small effect it's worth a short trip to the bank every 2 / 2.5 hours - I'd use one if I were you. ;) You could also just factor it into a time when you're taking a break, a few minutes to get more pouches just as you're logging out won't feel that bad and then you're all set for just fishing when you get back.
  25. I can confirm it's not possible. At the very LEAST you need 2 people. The message you get from catching the ferret is "You manage to catch the ferret and break it's magical necklace." Or something like that, Not quite true Plasma - perhaps they've updated? ;) I just encountered the ferret puzzle for the first time soloing today and after a bit of chasing got this :- Image. It is possible to catch up with it on solo - with a bit of trickery (:P), however - you do get a message requiring 'X' hunter level if you don't have it. It does require you to get lucky with positioning, avoiding it seeing you and being able to get ~2 tiles away from it before it starts moving. Later misclicked and stupidly ran into the Librarimancer with only melee-combat...Even more annoying is that it was such a close fight!
