31 December 2007 - Unbalanced Trade Reminder
Mark_560 replied to Jordanweb's topic in General Discussion
Heh, less beggers and another excuse to give them when they ask for free money. :P I'm looking forward to the side effects of the updates as well as the main point. :XD: Hopefully the update won't JUST be based around increasing due to number of Quest Points either. Maybe number of skills at level 99 will be involved too, or something similar. -
December 2007s/Janurary 2008s Updates - The Effect On RWIT
Mark_560 replied to Mark_560's topic in General Discussion
Yes, I too am looking forward to seeing an 'item lending' feature being added to the game. A few of the updates will be put into place with the trading changes, so I'm sure there won't be as many problems as there was meant to be at first. Artificial_Doom_Flavor, I like what you have posted. It has made me think how else the Wilderness changes had affected people. However, I still disagree with your final point. I'd much rather have a bot-free RuneScape and suffer from the consequences, than seeing cheats everywhere. It is unfair on the honest people who play fairly. Thank you for your constructive post. :) -
December 2007s/Janurary 2008s Updates - The Effect On RWIT
Mark_560 replied to Mark_560's topic in General Discussion
I am well aware that the main point of the updates was to stop the real world trading problem. However, the updates also had some other positives about them. I never complained about the people killing Abyss Runecrafters at all either. The Wilderness is a dangerous area - therefore - it is at your own risk to use the Abyss. I can also fully understand that not EVERYONE is happy with the updates. I just want to share my thoughts. Nevertheless, thank you for posting. -
December 2007s/Janurary 2008s Updates - The Effect On RWIT

Yes, I agree with you too! Let's hope for that RS won't have any more problems with these RWTs anymore now. well now they have started to sell account and power train them for you That's very true, but I'm sure that will be detected much faster than the bots were. An account logging in from China one minute, and then a few minutes later; logging in from England would look VERY suspicious. I also doubt that many people would give their password away for this need, although some would. Nope, I'm not a 'Wanna-Be-Mod' at all. Sharing a TRUE opinion does not make anyone a 'Wanna-Be-Mod'. I support these updates because I never liked seeing cheaters ruining the game for people. In fact, RuneScape is now virtually bot-free. On another note, I'd like to thank everyone who has posted so far for your thoughts regarding this. I too thought this thread had died, but it seems there were some new replies a few days ago. If anyone wants to continue the discussion, please feel free. Your thoughts are more than welcome. :) -
Happy holidays and Merry Christmas everyone! :D
-
I highly doubt anyone would give their password away for any purpose like this though. Also, someone logging in from an IP over in China, and then 2 hours later from England will surely arise suspicion of Account Sharing.
-
Love the idea. :D Maybe even 100K per hour seems too little for the Gold Farmers to transfer easily too, which leads to the new limit per 15 minutes being 25K. OR maybe the trade limit should reflect how long someone has been playing for. For example; the limit would be 3K for new accounts, and maybe 1M for players who have been playing for 1 year or over. No macroer stays in-game that long. :) Although, I still like this idea, as it is MUCH harder for the real-world traders to make easy transfers than what I've mentioned above.

December 2007s/Janurary 2008s Updates - The Effect On RWIT
Mark_560 replied to Mark_560's topic in General Discussion
I have to agree, the drop limit is indeed a bit frustrating. However, anything to stop the Gold Farmers suits me fine. The problem I can see with that idea is that even with a minimum amount of people, the Gold Farmers can still buy a house and put themselves in there whilst drop trades are happening. Apart from that though, it's not a bad idea! :) Thanks for your input so far. -
For me, and a lot of other people, the game is working fine for. This seems clearly like a problem at your end.

December 2007s/Janurary 2008s Updates - The Effect On RWIT
Mark_560 replied to Mark_560's topic in General Discussion
Heh, it's also great to hear that I'm not the only one who agrees with Jagex on this. :) Jagex have published another news article: "A World About Our Updates". Hopefully this will change the opinions of the ranters slightly. Found my thread on page 34 this morning. On a normal day, there's not usually that many people in the Recent Updates Forum. I guess it needs my very close eye. :XD: -
Firstly, I'd just like to clear up that I've already posted this thread on the official RuneScape Forums. Unfortunately, the Recent Updates Forum seems to be becoming spammed with non-constructive feedback which doesn't help Jagex in any way. This will cause my thread to eventually get eaten by the page 51 monster. The main reason I've posted it again here though, is to get some thoughts from the Tip.It community as well, because I know quite a few people don't use the RuneScape Forums. Thanks for reading. Now, onto the post. ========== Hello everyone. :) I'd just like to share my thoughts and comments regarding the recent updates made to RuneScape that were made to combat Real World Item Trading. I'll start with some comments about the updates that were released on the 10th December 2007. The Wilderness Changes My personal opinion on this, since I don't use the Wilderness for things other than to use the Abyss or a Treasure Trial, is that it was a great update! I'm much happier now I can train Runecrafting through the Abyss without having to world hop. To be honest, the PK-ers waiting to kill Runecrafters were very annoying. If at the time I were to rant about these, I'd think that it would only make them do it even more. Really, the only thing the Wilderness changes have stopped me from doing is killing green dragon bots there (I didn't kill anyone else... Honest!). But whilst there aren't any to kill - like now, I'm happy... Yes - I spent time getting to level 85 Magic because of the teleblock spell, but Jagex removed it because it can't be used anymore. A fair point really - it would be pointless for the spell to remain. :) The Trade and Drop Changes I can definitely understand why Jagex have made this change. The Gold Farmers need to be stopped in the easiest way to trade items over to each other sooner or later. The main thing I'd like to see come with these changes will be a "Borrow Item" feature, as I've seen suggested by quite a few other people. This seems like an excellent idea to me, as it doesn't prevent friends from sharing items with eachother. :) This would also stop scammers from running away or logging out with borrowed items, as the items that have been lent out will be returned to a SEPARATE part of the owner's bank. There would also be a set amount of items to be lent out at any one time, much like the Grand Exchange. I'm running into suggestion territory now, so I'll leave it there. As for the drop changes, I can see how this has affected a lot of people. This means no more drop parties, and with the party room being changed, it isn't a good idea to have one there either. I think maybe it would be a good idea if Jagex also changed the 3K cap trading limit as well. Maybe it could be set to 100K maximum within one hour. This wold mean you'd still be able to trade that 100K within seconds, but another 100K may not be traded until a whole hour has passed. This would also theoretically mean that it would be a jump from 3K to a 25K limit during a 15 minute period. Even this seems too little for a Gold Farmer to trade over accounts quickly and easily, but legitimate people will be a lot happier. The drop limit should stay the same though, in my opinion. The Removal of Unbalanced Trade I can understand why people would be frustrated with this. It prevents them from lending out items or money to friends. However, Jagex have announced that they will be implementing an "item lending" feature to the game. This should help many people put up with the changes to trading. At the same time though, this gets rid of the people trading gold. Yes - there are a few advertiser bots about still. They're mainly advertising accounts and "power-leveling" now. However, this type of real world trading has been going on for ages, and can never be stopped. Also, believe me; the advertisers are dealt with VERY quickly. If it gets rid of the bots, I'm all up for it. :D Maybe Quest Points isn't all the trading limit should be based on though. I'd think number of skills at level 99 should be included too. The Items Dropped on Death Changes Not much for me to say here, other than it is another fantastic update. :D If I were to die from a random event whilst browsing the Forums, I'd be able to retrieve my items quickly without fear of anyone else taking them. The Grand Exchange When this first came out, it was seen that a lot of items had dropped in price. These include all raw materials, such as yew logs, sharks, etc. Raw sharks had dropped to an unbelievable price that looked like it couldn't be recovered. A lot of people were blaming the Grand Exchange for this. My theory: The bots! Since yesterday's update, a lot of Gold Farmers have disappeared and stopped playing RuneScape. This meant that there was no longer as big of supply of items like sharks. Today, I managed to sell my 1,000 raw sharks in the Grand Exchange for a relatively high price - no problems at all. They were sold within less than a second of putting them up. Therefore, I'm assuming there is a lot of demand for them at the moment, and that they WILL recover to their original price in the near future. As far as I was concerned, the Gold Farmers were using the Grand Exchange to sell their items. Remember that we cannot see WHO we're buying from there. Whether it was from a bot or a legitimate player, there was no way to tell. It was advised on the Forums that we don't trade with Gold Farmers, as that is supporting them and encouraging them to continue their evil deeds. When the Grand Exchange was released, it looked like they took advantage of it. Duel Arena Changes This is yet another fun update. When I went to the Duel Tournaments last month, I didn't win anything at all, but it was still fun. :P In the higher ranked tournaments, there is a chance to win up to 64M coins. Although I haven't staked properly before in world 22, I am in doubt that anyone would have staked a value of that much per game... There was a 3,000 coin limit cap placed for staked duels, but personally I can't see any problem with that. The Duel Arena does actually seem to me more of a fun thing, than a serious thing to win a few coins. :) I also can't see a problem with F2P players being able to try out the Duel Arena either. Members still have a LOT more extra content than F2P do. The Assist System This was yet another useful update. However, maybe with the bots out of the game now, the cap of XP gained over a 24 hour period should probably be increased. LootShare With the trading updates, I think a change to this system wouldn't go a miss. Maybe if this feature is turned on, no-one should be able to get the item, however, the item's MARKET PRICE is divided between the amount of players who were allowed to share loot in the Clan Chat. On the whole though, it is a great update. It just needs a few changes now, however. I very much enjoyed reading the Development Diary regarding Real World Item Trading. I believe all of these recent updates are for the best. And who knows... MAYBE when the Gold Farming companies are out of business or losing MILLIONS of real world money (which shouldn't be too long from now), RuneScape will be restored SLOWLY to what it has been like previously. ;) I'm sure a lot of you reading this are aware that ALL of these updates have affected Real World Item Trading and the Gold Farmers in a way. If there's one type of person who I really hate in RuneScape, it's a cheating rule-breaker. They have been buying RuneScape gold for too long now, and I'm supporting Jagex with EVERY move they make to eliminate the problem. They KNOW what they're doing. It's not Jagex's fault for these updates - it's the Gold Farmer's if anything. If they weren't about, Jagex wouldn't have HAD to take these steps. One thing that I've seen that has been said by many people is that Jagex are ruining RuneScape. I strongly disagree with those statements. If anything, they're making the game safer, and much more worth playing. It was also frustrating seeing bots everywhere - and in most cases - there were more bots than legitimate players. Real World Item Trading is also not the only rule affected by these changes. From now on, I can expect to see less Item Scamming and Multiple Logging-In happening in the future. :) I hope everyone is enjoying playing RuneScape with almost no bots in. I know I am! Thank you for reading my thread. Any feedback and criticism is more than welcome. Please try and keep it constructive though. ;) EDIT (03/01/2008): Added my thoughts on the removal of unbalanced trade. EDIT (19/01/2008): Thread title changed from "The Most Recent Updates and Real World Item Trading" to "December 2007s/Janurary 2008s Updates - The Effect On RWIT", as they aren't really the "most recent" updates anymore. EDIT: (19/01/2008): Spelling and grammar errors corrected, and smileys that these Forums don't support were removed.

All of the things you've mentioned have been going on for quite a while before this update. I'm assuming they are also faster to detect than macroing programs were. ;)

No more RANDOM EVENTS/PURE ESS needed anymore now?!
Mark_560 replied to Latinoking's topic in General Discussion
Some other random events are fun though, such as the maze. A half key from the Mysterious Old Man isn't bad going either. :D I say keep the random events, as at least they'll still slow down those people you said use macro programs. Jagex will still be able to ban them. :) -
Well if he was still accusing you, the best thing to do was to ignore them. :) It seems like what he's trying to do is get you to retaliate in a way which would be breaking other rules. People like that just aren't worth the time or effort.
-
Remember that many people like to have their chat settings to "Off". Although you may not have had it off, you are under no obligation to talk to someone either. Unfortunately, some people don't take this into consideration, and jump to conclusions quickly. :( If this player reported you for no reason, nothing will happen to you, whereas the player who reported you may have action taken against them for Misuse of Customer Support. Another thing to consider is that some people only say "Reported", to try and worry you. A key thing is that if you know you haven't done anything wrong, then you don't need to worry at all. :)
-
I'll start off with some points about what you have said about the macros, which is one of the things that sparked me to post here. There are indeed a lot of macroers about in RuneScape these days. The main reason behind this though, is because the people who buy RuneScape gold for real world money are encouraging the gold farmers to continue their activities. However, although you are seeing a lot, this does not mean that the macroers have to be in-game for a certain period of time in order for them to be detected - particularly 6 hours. They'll have probably been detected already, but Jagex have to review the evidence from a human's side. As I'm sure you're aware - this is to prevent innocent people getting banned. Now remember, Jagex receive tonnes of reports per day, so it takes some time for them to review the account. Another reason why there are many macroers at the moment, is because when one is banned, another one is created almost instantly. This adds onto Jagex's workload. As for the rest of your thread, I personally think you're wrong when you say that the minority of players are not part of the "Rule-breaking Community". In fact, I'd say that at least 90% of the RuneScape community as a whole are good, honest players. Within that 90% though, I'm including those who have broken a rule, but learn from their mistakes. There have been a fair few rule-breakers lurking about recently though - most of them are macroers. Any other types of rule-breakers, you should report and move on, like you would when reporting those breaking Rule 7. Scammers, account traders, and all other offenders will realise eventually that it is their own time they're wasting - they will be dealt with.

Ever wished Jagex left the interface untouched?
Mark_560 replied to sohkmj1's topic in General Discussion
I personally love it. :D I'll be honest though, it did take me a few days to get used to the new interface, and also the new game engine where it was updated so options now appear no matter where you click within the game. That paid off though, and after looking at some screenshots of the previous interfaces, it looks much better than before. -
Partyhats and other discontinued items have seen a significant price decrease since this update was released. I believe a purple partyhat was around 185M before the Grand Exchange. It is now down to around 140M. It was a good update, but it has caused many items to decrease in price, rather than having a more stable economy. I think the limit of 5% above/below the price for the boundaries is too much. Judging by the amount of feedback and thoughts about this update, I can see a few changes happening to this next week.
-
Jagex use the appropriate automated responses to speed up their workload. If there is a automated response available which answers the question anyway, writing a personal response would just be wasting time. If you are receiving a response which doesn't answer your question, you can send the message again, and explain that they made a mistake last time. Remember - Everyone makes mistakes. ;)
-
A good point made there, and judging by the fact that the minigames High Scores are seperate from the skills High Scores, this will probably happen in time. :) Afterall, creating a new category for just one minigame would seem a bit pointless. :P

Do you ever use the"Self Sufficient" methods??
Mark_560 replied to roanlo's topic in General Discussion
It depends on what I'm training really. If it's something which I can earn back afterwards, I'd buy the items to train a skill. One example being: I was originally chopping and burning yews behind Varrock Castle; going for level 99 Woodcutting and Firemaking. But I then decided that it was time for another Cape of Achievement that would be easy to get. Therefore, few weeks ago, I bought 20,000 yew logs in order to get level 99 Firemaking. I've burnt them, and I now have the Firemaking cape. I am now earning back the money, by chopping yews to level 99 Woodcutting. This way, I haven't really lost any money at all, and I'm hoping to sell these yews for more than I bought them for. :P I'm one of those people who avoids spending money whenever I get the chance to. I'd obtain my own seeds, pure essence, and more... The list is endless. XD I suppose my personal short answer to your question, would be most of the time; yes. However, if there are some linked skills, which I could use to earn the money back, I'd buy the raw materials instead. -
I can understand why many people may be frustrated with the macroers. Mainly because it is ruining the fun that honest players want to have. Therefore, this causes some people to rant about them, which is indeed against the official RuneScape Forum Code of Conduct. I've seen in the past, a few posts starting with: "I know it's against the rules to rant about macroers, but..." - These make me wonder: "If you know it's against the rules, why did you post it then?" I think what people need to realise is that a post on the Forums doesn't get rid of the macroers, or help Jagex get rid of them in any way. Reporting the rule-breakers does both of those things though though.
-
You're welcome. :) For the dragon weapons, the following quests are required to be complete, in order to wield them: Heroes' Quest - Dragon battleaxe and dragon mace. Lost City - Dragon dagger and dragon longsword. Monkey Madness - Dragon scimitar. Regicide - Dragon halberd. All the other dragon weapons don't require anything, other than you to have level 60 Attack.
-
Firemaking is much quicker to train. So if you want a skill cape as soon as possible, I'd recommend going for that one. :)
-
I'd recommend completing the Lost City quest first, as that is quite easy, and the reward is the ability to buy and wield a dragon dagger and dragon longsword. Good luck, and welcome to members. ;) Have fun.
