I must say I wasn't bragging, just stating it, but maybe I could've left it out altogether. My intention is not to insult anybody personally, I'm not extorting schoolkids to sell my PS3's. Most of them are actually bought by adults. And indeed, events like this are what I try to grab onto, since I've chosen the 'occupation' of investing. I can and do leave some investment opportunities because they either sound shady, the main person responsible doesn't sound trustworthy, or there is something really ethically/morally wrong (no matter how high the profit I would never engage in human trafficking, drugs, etc. not to mention it is also very risky) I find it to be a quite good alternative to just daytrading stocks, which Anesthesia mentioned, works on the exactly same principles, my personal risk is just much higher even if it can be mininised. I buy $10k worth of stock at $14.77 and at the end of the day, the price may have fluctuated up and down, if it goes up to say $15.00, I made a profit of about $155. Who loses out? The person who "needed" to sell his stock quick to me through a broker and didn't bother to wait for a bit to get the full potential of his profit. When I buy a PS3, there is always the risk nobody would buy my consoles. What the heck am I going to do with 3 consoles then that I have no interest in playing? Nothing, I just lost money for nothing. Compared to the risk (even though admittedly low in this case), asking a few hundred dollars extra from an eager customer isn't really robbery in my opinion, if he's willing to dish it out.

So, you do understand what I'm trying to say. Because from this reply I can see that you disagree with what's happening to let's say the poor farmers. It's wrong that these farmers are screwed over. But when you're doing it yourself to a western kid that has worked for it (this doesn't have anything to do with daddy's income, as the kid saved up for it himself) it's suddendly okay? Or are you trying to justify it again because 'somebody else' is doing the same thing, but now in a worse way. No, Blue, you're not scoring any points, in my book. No, the kid doesn't need his PS3. A farmer needs his money to survive. A farmer cannot wait for a month and magically, there will be more food for him. A kid can wait for 1 month and then start gaming on his console and possibly pay even less than the original price since the price goes down after time. If you disagree with everything that's "wrong", you would make sure you know the origin of everything you eat and consume and buy. Chances are, some workers in that chain of labour got royally screwed just because a person like you wanted to buy that product in a western country for cheap. When I resell a PS3, I'm not screwing up anybody. If a person has $1,200 to pay me for a gaming console, he is obviously very well off financially. However, even that person didn't need the console. He is just like your hypothetical 16-year old kid, the kid wants a console. I *want* profit (or if I may say, 'need'). What makes my need lesser than the kids, since we both don't really "need" either one?

It's about time somebody makes a petition to ban this stuff. In fact, I'll make one out of spite. .com/tvpetit1/petition.html]Here

You just described an average human. People don't change much over the course of history, most humans are still the descendants of the same people that enjoyed seeing people get slaughtered in an arena by lions and have their guts ripped, thousands of years ago. Yes, some people just want to get away from their boring lives so they enjoy the failures of others, want to nose in their lives, as a form of entertainment. Gossip has been the food of the masses since humans have been able to talk. I've yet to meet any "truly" intelligent people that read gossip and sensation magazines. No offense but just their covers reveal that they are clearly marketed to milk money from morons. "SHOCK! ANISTON SPILLED TEQUILA!" "PITT: I LOVE MY DOG MORE THAN MY WIFE!" ...
-
LOL At least some people "get it".

It's not spyware, so I really doubt any program could remove it. If you also do like darkrick "suggested" :P, I doubt you can even start up your computer, let alone scan anything. Spyware means the program/cookie collects your personal information without your consent and sends it to somebody who can profit off it (such as by selling it to advertisement companies). This program just annoys the heck out of you. It's a nice prank though.

Nah, the whole thing is fine, it's just that tip.it uses BBcode that doesn't require citation marks (") for the urls. 8-) Just remove those and it will work. I'd really like to view it, and when I go to the URL my media player does open but it says 'unable to connect'.

Lol, you're my hero. I'm probably just a 'noob' but I didn't find out a way to stop it other than a reboot. 8-)

If you look at the bids on these sales, they are usually authentic up to $1,500-$3,000 by bidders that have high reputation (in the hundreds or at least tens), after that they do seem to sometimes jump up to $8k and more by people with 0 reputation.

With that implication, affirmative action is completely baseless! Are you aware of what you're saying?! Yes that is what I am saying. Because I swear on my grave I have never seen a white nor a black person. We are all monochromatics of brown. Face it, we're all connected, some of us just have ancestors that lived in countries where there is, for example, more sun, and it is human nature to adapt with a darker skin color, and lots of adaptations, maladaptations or not, become heredity traits. There is no need for different terms, just because a person is darker than you, it's just a label by society that I've found complety meaningless. I mean, black and white, what moron came up with those terms, they must have been seriously color blind, to a point that isn't even possible. I could see light or dark, but then that doens't account for those inbetween. Damn it! You're too smart. Well people just judge by how far they can visably see. If you look close to white you are. Visa versa. Although not an effective method... I'm what you'd call 'caucasian' or 'white', and I swear I've never seen a 'white' person in my life. If I did, I would be pretty scared. Neither have I seen absolutely black people more than maybe once or twice. If your skin is white, you're most likely very sick because you've never seen the sunlight. Even the palest people have a reddish skin because of their veins. It's a scam. People want you to think humans are like cartoon characters in a (no pun) black-and-white world. Reality isn't as simple.

  Thanks for keeping it pg 8-) You mean G. PG is parents suggested to watch/do something with you. G is appropriate for all people to do/watch on their own. Maybe he killed his girlfriend with a chainsaw. Whoops, I guess the thread is now R-rated. Sorry for shocking any young readers. If it makes the supposed 10 year old forum'ers feel better, I watched rambo when I was 5 with my friends of the same age, and we're (gasp) not in jail yet.

I did play on L2Extreme for a while ages ago, I must admit I was amazed at the sheer amount of people, it felt like a real server, just more fun. However, is true. Most private servers are run from servers in eastern european countries, African countries, Russian siberia, island states etc. that do have copyright laws but the local police can't be bothered to do anything. No police will drive 600 miles to a snowy village to raid every house for a computer, when in that time they have already burned the hard-drive and have backups hidden in another town. Still I must agree with insane, even though I did test the server out of curiosity. Because the developers did pay a lot of money to develop the game, with the sheer intent of profiting. They didn't state their files can be used privately, which makes the FBI actions justified. Other than the posts on other forums like "screw the FBI", I don't see how it can't be justified. They did break copyright laws. Though, there ARE poor people that really want to play it but can't afford it because they barely have an old used computer and a 56k modem line. They are just the minority. Most people just don't want the low XP rates of a L2 server.

It's impossible to have an absolute stance on abortion. 1. If the child is a "mistake", I believe the woman has no right to kill the baby because instead of taking a pill, she waited for too long before making her decision. In my opinion it's murdering the baby inside you. 2. If the woman was raped, she absolutely should be allowed an abortion. It's a huge personal humiliation and the woman may not even be prepared for a baby in her life, she has had her own plans and possibly doesn't even have enough money to keep the baby alive. So is there a difference since in both cases, the Embryo dies? Yes, because if you could ask the Embryo would he/she want to be born to a mother that will have to give him up for adoption/child care, live with the fact his father is a rapist sitting in a jail, would you really want to be born? Of course, that's hypothetical since you can't ask it questions (I didn't say him or her because it's possibly not determined yet). If you just want the best for the child, in #2, abortion should be allowed. I know I would not want to be born in that situation.

It's funny, because I donate money to charities and don't use spray deodorants. Though, I'd argue both of those are 100 times more important than a gaming console. They must live in a grand illusion then. When I was 7 years old I understood the concept of supply and demand, that something may actually run out. If they really want it, they can buy one from me (or if they were in my place, not sell it, just game with it). That scenario doesn't sound very "unfair" either. There are farmers in poor countries that work for $0.10 an hour, and western people like you eat their produce with no remorse. Sometimes they may be forced to slavery, you could just buy Fair Trade cereals, but no, that costs $4 more. It would be better spent on more luxuries than spoiling the entire life of a farmer who has no control over his future. Comparing my actions to real unfairness is itself 'unfair'. NOBODY needs a console, especially at 16. If they can even afford such an expensive console, they most likely have a home, a family earning $50,000+ a year, a computer, internet access, high quality food, television, DVD players, stereos... How many people in the world have those? Less than one percent. If you "need" a console at age 16, you need to get your head checked. I do know people aged 16, but none that would feel their life is shattered just because their spoiled first world butt has to wait for a gaming luxury for 1 more month. Boohoo.

Suicide is NOT a "cowardly" way out, it can occur to somebody who never even has had that kind of pain (has not lost a family member, etc.) Sorry, but it's very ignorant to say so. When you have more pain than you can cope with, you will possibly take your own life. I must admit, sometimes it occurs to me that I think about it, "is life worth living? Should I blast myself? (quote of Tupac?)" - I make quite a bit of money. I'm not sad. I have a plenty of friends and entertainment and I bodybuild. But a long time ago, I realised all that is really meaningless to the world. The world would be just the same even if I didn't exist. Once I realised that pointlessness, it was depressing. I thought about how happy those people are that don't think too much about life and still believe there is some kind of mystic meaning to it. If I had kids or an active project to help people who can't stay alive for monetary reasons, that would be probably the best reason to stay alive, because your existence actually makes a direct impact on the world. If you know somebody who is suicidal, try talking to them. Don't be a judgemental fool, that can just strengthen their opinion. I've succesfully talked a person out of suicide (though, it was over a long period). You don't have to have anything special to say, listen to what they have to say. If they see somebody actually cares, they wont be so eager to act foolishly.

If those people, like Nadril posted, really can't wait for a few weeks and sit in the rain for a console, why should I wait for somebody else to take that money? Because, if I didn't do it, somebody else would. Then years later I could be one of those smart-[wagon] on message boards who say "I wish I had re-sold PS3's when they came out". I learned enough on not buying into the google hype (just bought a few stocks to try it), and lost potentially tens of thousands because I was a fool. They're spoiled brats if they get sad and start crying when they don't get a gaming console. We're not talking about a limited-stock medicine that means the life and death to someone, and I jacked that. No. Maybe it's time for them to build character. ANYBODY who really wanted one, could have secured preorders a long, long time ago like I did (though I don't have interest in playing the console). I don't get it. I'm not a Sony fanboy and even I knew that. The instant it became public knowledge that Sony would ship only a ridiculously small amount of PS3's, people started getting ready to hoard them. Read this news article. http://news.com.com/2100-1041_3-6136304.html Wow, sorry for thinking those guys are actually smart. A console is just for fun. Money is the stuff in life you really need.
-
While I agree with you, I feel sad for those people who laughed at the re-sellers and said "nobody is going to pay extra just to get a PS3 early, moron". The $30k auction is fake, but check the bid history of the one Nadril posted. It's legitimate. There are some people with a lot of money that are willing to spend $15,000 on a console. Nevermind the fact you could just wait a bit and spend that $15,000 on buying EVERY game the PS3 has and will ever have. Yours truly, -Guy who milked $2,5k so far from PS3 freaks

I'm happy they're doing this. I'm not a follower of any religion so I couldn't care less in that sense, but anybody who gets offended by the word "christmas" is an idiot. The event itself is even based on pagan festivals which were around before most religions were invented. Some people just seem to be over-sensitive. You can't equate it to Wal-mart hanging a display that says "Happy birthday Hitler" and tear down everything christmas related because "it offends your religion". Though, I don't get it, why just not call it "holidays"? That way, everybody wins. The christians who get offended by 'not' seeing the word christmas are funny. I think you're taking christmas way too seriously, considering it's supposed to be a time when you're happy and forget your grudges.

âš£25 per day to drive an SUV in London
BlueLancer replied to Necromagus's topic in Off-Topic
̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã25 pounds daily is actually a huge sum of money. If you were to drive around in your SUV every day of the year (not at all unlikely, many people probably do so), you would have to pay over ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã9000 pounds, or about $18,000 american dollars per year. You could get a used 2006 Hummer H3 for that price, and that's just the DAILY price you have to pay, not to mention maintenance, gas... -
sam..if i may: they are not ridiculing you for your grades. they are ridiculing your attitude. b/c if you are lazy with school, then most likely you will be lazy in other aspects of your life, including a job. Ah, yes, just like Einstein and countless other mathemathicians/scientists/physicists who failed their classes at school simply because they thought it was a waste of time or they hated their teachers.I must say it's very ignorant to say "if your grades are low, chances are you are lazy in every other way as well". If you have a brain, you realize grades are nothing more but print marks on a paper. There are countless people that didn't even fully graduate and they earn quite nicely. Want a corny example? Bill Gates. He's a dropout. I still fail to see how he's lazy or a failure, he has earned more in his life than probably all the people on off topic forum will ever earn in their lifetimes. You can predict things only to a certain extent, and IMO that does not cater to life as a whole. I know this because my father came from relatively poor conditions. Last summer we went to visit his best childhood friend in California, he has no education whatsoever, and he has become a millionaire because he worked up his way in a shoe franchise and now owns five stores. He started simply as a storage operator. Education doesn't make you smart, that's something that comes from your personal observations, reading the news, developing yourself mentally. Smartness is entirely different than book knowledge. If you don't know how to apply knowledge you can have ALL the PhD's in the world and you'll earn less than a guy who's a dropout. Now, again, I don't discourage people from educating themselves, just don't try to feel superior to people who may have less motivation to do so if they can justify it. Believe it or not, despite the supposed odds, they may be earning more one day.

Now in the USA, by law, you can eavesdrop on any citizen, arrest them for years without trial, confiscate property in the name of 'public security', stop people from bringing toothpaste and soap on an aeroplane, why the heck couldn't you stop people from smoking? They could, they don't want to. In the current situation, any government is idiotic to ban smoking altogether because it creates billions in tax revenue even in the smallest countries. Then just shady gangsters get more money when smuggling cigarettes to the country. Why not ban the sale of a PRODUCT to prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths? It is far easier than trying to be paranoid and seeing terrorism everywhere, even in old women.

See, because violent people like that who start fights, couldn't care less if your friend is for or against violence. They will try to beat him down either way, and if it was just 1 person picking on your friend, I'd say you're not a real friend if you don't go and help him. "I'm sorry you're in the hospital now, but I was kinda scared and I think the world should be peaceful you know". That's ridiculous.

Reporters sans fronti¨res - Press Freedom Index 2006
BlueLancer replied to Necromagus's topic in Off-Topic
*sigh* Nothing unusual, the nordic countries with their super-liberality and NK at the bottom. And yes, USA's rating sucks compared to even some of the worst human rights offenders in the world. American media is sometimes censored and journalists are denied from writing certain articles, etc. which is not exactly very democratic. An ironic extreme then, compared to North Korea is Finland. Even a schoolkid can have his/her article published in the biggest newspaper of the country given that the article is well written and entertaining. It can criticize anything at all. It is also very interesting that Bosnia/HG has become the most press-liberal country in the Balkan area despite being ravaged by war just over a decade ago. -
I don't really care about online games anymore, and I only join new games if I get invited by a friend. I must admit I was a bit addicted to RS when it first came out about 5 years ago, and I was glued to the monitor during the weekends instead of spending time with my friends in real life (though some of them did play too) I don't go to school anymore... But I spend far more time doing other activities than computer related. :) Probably the most time I spend on the computer is on several forums, obviously including the beloved tip.it. From 30 minutes to 2 hours daily if the forum is very active.

Then again, try disproving santa claus :P Get Google to take a global picture on 25th of December and then check every chimney? :P Well, I will make sure there's at least 1 santa dropping stuff down the chimney somewhere in the world so when future generations use google as a reference in their history class, they will know santa claus was real... Along with the flying car 8-) There are actually flying cars, wow... Though, they don't look as glamorous as I'd have expected :-#
