Pre-Imperial Rome disagrees with you. As does ancient Sparta. Neither of which however were democracy as we know it today. Ancient Sparta/Greece is probably the closest mankind will ever get to true democracy in the history of this planet's lifespan, and they also had a thriving free market that was open to local & foreign citizens. Even common men and slaves had a say in the running of things locally and on a bigger level. Since we assume ourselves to be more intelligent than bare animals, why'd we choose to act like them? The thing dividing us from animals is the ability to put ourselves in other person's shoes figuratively, and help other people not within our circle of biological family. You can care for your and your family's interests and still not be selfish and greedy. Point a gun at my head; I swear if it saves the lives of 10 innocent kids, I'll suck it up. My life isn't worth 10 lives. Me personally living has no benefit on the planet, nor does my survival. I'm realistic enough to acknowledge that instead of building a swollen ego in a world where the only thing that matters is "me, me, me, screw all those generous and caring hippie liberals".

People these days wear shirts with texts like "serial killer" so nobody would take it as more than a joke

I wouldn't explicitly *teach* my kid about homosexuality, but if he asked, why wouldn't I answer him? Do you seriously think you can keep kids and teenagers from knowing things in the 21st century? I would love for my kids to have kids too, but you know what? If they turned out to be gay, I wouldn't care as long as they're personally happy. Kids aren't my personal "trophy stands". I'm their parent which means I'll ensure their happiness and well being even on my own expense. Because, unlike horny rabbits, I don't believe the sole purpose of a human life is to produce more humans. Heck, the planet is polluting and running out of resources because so many of us suckers are running around. Give the world 12 billion people in a few decades... Give the people of the world hell. If you're an amish, conservative christian/muslim/tribal, be my guest and have 10 kids and once they're 15, tell them to get even more kids. Just don't run around telling people that's the universal meaning of life.

Edited your post because it had tons of spelling mistakes, to make it less confusing :) Anyways.. Nothing beats a good old vinyl, hehe. I don't even use CD's, it's MP3 or nothing. The joy of spinning a vinyl disc forward to make the music pitched and fast... Or holding it down to make it sound slow... Great stuff on old Elvis collections, maybe kind of immature but still fun if you visit your grandma or something and have nothing to do.

Maybe they make a big deal because people like you tell them they are "wrong"? Do you really have the balls to walk up to a gay person in real life and tell him "he's wrong"? That's YOUR close minded opinion, not mine. And thanks for the 'noob' reference. I'm sure you weren't a 'noob' registering on the forums before being 13 years old, you could be easily banned, but nobody's going to sink that low are they? Did it occur to you there may be gay people born who don't believe in God like you do? Or they may have a different religion? But why am I talking.. I'm sure you're laughing at these posts with your pimply faced homophobic friends. "OMG haha they're defending gays and negroes, what's next, give coloureds free public bathrooms? Bunch of noobs!" Living in the 1800's are we? Unlike you, I can and have the freedom to stand up for discriminated people. It's people like you that cause them to make a "big deal" out of it.

Well I'm glad women don't get to run that many important businesses  Dismissing talented people because of their haircut? Yeah... I've worked in a much "crazier" company, believe me, in the corporate world people don't really care about your 'special' appearance when all you do is sit in an office mostly. In multinational corporations you can see it all... Burkhas, iroques hairstyle, short trimmed, long hair, [bleep]y. It doesn't matter if the person has skill and talent to do his job and is clean otherwise (talking hygieny) Anyways, that's a weird question... "Should I grow a mullet". It's your choice, why'd you ask a random internet forum about it. And you admitted you weren't serious. Strange

I always found this argument a bit funny 8-) If I even lived to 80, I doubt I'd care much about what other people thought about me at that age. Not like I'd be showing around my back and biceps much at 80+. Besides, my tattoo is so simple and small it doesn't matter (about half 1/3th of an inch, a S letter, upper left bicep). Some old hag age 70 tells me it looks horrible? Big deal. But I disagree with a sponge-bob tattoo

I'm not going to pick a side, but what bothers me the most on debates like this is the few people who chime in just repeating what they learned in DARE. The, "it's immoral and bad for you! You must be an idiot to try that stuff!" Anything is bad for you if you have too much of it. It just bothers me that people with no idea what they're talking about run in on things like they're the moral authority because they learned DARE government funded propaganda, shouting "Just say no!" as if they know something nobody else does. I'm not saying you're completely wrong, just that you're doing a lot of stereotypical generalizing. I couldn't agree more with this post. While I'm generally against drug use (and absolutely 100% against hard-drugs such as heroine/cocaine/LSD which shouldn't become legal ever). N0M_AN0R seems like one with enough knowledge in this subject. I'm not a qualified person to comment on soft drugs like Marijuana. Heck, I know some cultures even use Marijuana as a medical herb. "Just say no". How's that? Cigarettes have hundreds of toxics which make marijuana look like a vitamin pill. Anything overexcessive is bad for your health. Kids want to try this, try that... They try alcohol, they can try cigarettes, and in rare cases, drugs. If they're hard drugs, it's absolutely 100% bad because 1. They cost an awful lot, way more than can be a sustainable cost for a teenager, can lead to crime in order to obtain drugs 2. They can cause severe nerve damage and are guaranteed to build physical addiction. Soft drugs like Marijuana... I can't say what's so horrendous about it if compared to say, alcohol and cigarettes. It may give you a state of "high" but it certainly causes less deaths every year than cigarettes. I don't advocate any drugs (I don't even smoke or drink personally), I'm just saying don't trust everything you hear and see. The government doesn't care about your health benefits. If they did, cigarettes would be outlawed. They care about not being able to tax drugs.

If there were just 2 men and 2 women left on earth their descendants would die from genetic disorders due to multiple generations of inbreeding and incest. Acting on a natural inclination (doubtful but I realize certain people's genes can alter their vulnerability to severe aggression and such) to murder hurts society and other people. Acting on a natural inclination to follow your natural mating/bonding orientation doesn't hurt the society or any person. I don't see how people, be it conservative christians, muslims, random hillbillies or star wars geeks can discriminate against them. If you were to choose neighbours... From 2 robbers, 2 murderers, 2 gay people... Which one of them doesn't break the law, act disruptively and pays taxes + works just like any other citizen or couple? What about your own personal perspective as a human, equal to all other humans? I thought people would limit religion from affecting their thoughts, instead it seems some people want to limit their thoughts from affecting their religiousness. But as I've read your posts for years I understand that's not something that's going to change overnight and it's your lifestyle choice to be a catholic christian. I just hope it wont make you judgemental in real life situations with people from different backgrounds, religions, sexualities and nations.

Agree with the above poster... It's pointless removing the spam and flames from the thread, there would be no posts left. And what's up with kids mocking each other for playing Pokemon? Does it make you more of a "man" if you play runescape (...) or halo? Please stop being ridiculous. Anybody can play anything they want. Heck there are 60 year olds buying the Nintendo Wii to play golf, are they "losers" too? There's nothing inherently wrong with a topic like this, it's the replies. Read your replies and realize how childish your flaming sounds.

Strangely enough I had similar issues; I was just a bit younger. About 16-18. When all else failed I joined the military, it gave some meaning to my life. Later on I was granted another opportunity by inheriting a significant sum of money so I decided to start putting it to good work by investing it, and I resigned from military service. I can give you details on a PM. But since you can't join the army for medical reasons, that's out of question... Export and import volatile and rare commodities? Buy diamonds from mine workers taking a break in Angola, South Africa etc... (It's 100% certain some of them 'borrow' a few of the small stones they find) Pay them "on the spot" and sell the diamonds in western countries for a higher price to merchants, and reap the profit. You aren't fueling "the system" and it's not necessarily illegal. Getting a "job" is pretty much what you described it as, it "fuels the system". A job is a place where you have no say over your own salary, you're practically the slave of a corporation/company. Your other opportunities are earning money by business (better, takes more intelligence) or crime (high profits, high risk, unethical, don't recommend this). I don't know what you're interested in, but in case you decide to go into business, just remember that the largest profits can be usually reaped when you find valuable (expensive) commodities from people desperate to sell them, and re-sell them for even more.

Who are you to tell it's a sinful act? Thanks, nevermind the fact I did a year of anti-drug volunteer work in college at age 19. Drugs can kill people and destroy your life. Homosexuality doesn't. What the hell is your problem, acting superior to other people? I personally know a few homosexual people. Want me to arrange them on MSN for you so you can tell them how sick and perverted they are?
-
I made a post just for you, above this one. Animals don't choose homosexuality just like they don't "choose" biological behavior. Humans are animals too. What, does a baboon, chimpanzee, dolphin.. Choose his sexuality? You have a right to disagree with them, I can't deny you have that freedom. However if you discriminate against them (possibly in real life too), you are void of any rights yourself and you can be even held criminally responsible according to the law (because the lawmakers in most 1st world countries have decided any form of discrimination is a criminal offense)
-
Ok well since your asking for my personal opinion then I'll give it to you. Science doesn't come into it here. I'll also come from the point of view thats "its a fact they are born gay" instead of making that "lifestyle choice" during puberty years as you requested. How can it be wrong in my eyes you may ask? Well from a Christians perspective we were told to go forth and multiply and as we know homosexuality can't do this, so its against that for starters. I also believe its an unnatural act, and there's many (notice I didn't say all) perverted people who do such acts. Simple. I'm not going to answer your last 2 questions when my argument stands that its a lifestyle choice, and therefore it can't be argued upon. I don't believe its created by God, and I believe that God didn't create them like that. So I'm not going to flatter you that much. By the way from what I saw of those sites and read (apologies if you can prove me wrong), they weren't credible and even could be seen as biased. You don't like it when on the religious threads Christians post their sources of Christians sites (despite having factual sources on them) but rather sites with a more scientific connotation on the evidence. SO in this case do you have any scientific sources whereby they can conclusively prove that its biological and that a lifestyle choice has nothing to do with their homosexuality? :| http://www.androphile.org/preview/Libra ... r20.24.htm Link Can other animals "choose" their sexuality? Assuming "God" created those animals, why did he choose to make those other animals homosexual? You're an individual, in case you didn't notice you don't need to lump yourself under a collective "we". "Christians" includes a colourful selection of people all the way from pedophile priests and murdering gangsters to aid workers, common people, doctors, etc... You're relying on a book telling you to "multiply". All you have is a 'belief' it was written by "God". Be assured it was written by an ordinary man but it's pointless debating 'did he recieve his words from God' :wall:
-
Not really, it's your personal opinion and it doesn't hurt anybody. Just like you could hate the practice of killing endangered whales for their fat and the meat (but not hating the fishermen who need it to live and feed their families) You don't have any rights to deny rights from others that don't hurt the society or you personally. Do you have a right to stop a murderer? Yes. Do you have a right to stop a robber? Yes. Do you have the right to limit other people's personal freedom? No. What if a gay person hated your practice of having intercourse with women? Would he be able to restrict you and point a gun at your head? There are a few factors a human can't control: Age, skin color, sexuality, length, etc... Discrimination based on any of those is (fortunately) punishable by law in most civilized states.
-
And how exactly can you compare rapists (criminals who hurt other people) to homosexuals (normal citizens who pay taxes to fund the society)? What's their wrongdoing? You're free to believe whatever your little book tells you, but if you discriminate others based on it, you're subject to the same laws as everybody else. Fortunately in most developed and intellectual countries, discrimination based on skin color, sexuality, age and nationality is forbidden and punishable by law. I wish there were more intelligent christians, muslims, etc. like you posting on online forums. I used to know a lot of religious kids and people and they were pretty much as open minded as you were, yet they went to church and they were baptized etc. Sadly it's the small minority screaming "SINNER, SINNER" demanding certain groups of people to be denounced based on something out of their control. You can't force a homosexual person to suddenly 'switch' his/her sexuality which is based on his hormones, physical attributes, brain chemistry... Just stop trying. It's not a "sin" anywhere else than a book. It even happens in other animals than humans I guess those animals are "sinners" too? Let's try to talk sense them and 'heal' them?
-
Well I can't prove I have a soul, I don't really believe in it. Does an ant have a soul? A cow? A horse? A whale? The only thing separating us from those animals is brainpower that enables us to recognise our existence... We're just like them, animals. Sure it does sound like a nice and noble idea but a 'soul' to me is just another word for your mental state. Like a plate of metal. It can be broken, repaired, healed, irreversibly damaged or scratched, it can be pure, it can be filthy. When you're born your plate of metal is completely pure and it has nothing recorded on it, but what you do in life will alter it. But the only way to know for sure is to die and find out, for now.. 8-) I can't criticize those who do believe in a soul, it's a bit different than believing in 'religion'. You could be an atheist and still believe your 'soul' (assuming one exists) merely moves to another place/host.

So because you think "it's gross", these people shouldn't have the right to forge an union in the form of a marriage? Do these people personally hurt you or force you to think about their "grossness" they were born into? People who were born disabled/handicapped... I guess they are gross too? They must be threatening your virgin eyes incapable of witnessing such evil. They are missing a hand. Their speech is incoherent. But after all it's something they "chose" since birth, right? Did you "choose" to be heterosexual?

Place a videocam in your room and prove it happened, and post it here. There are multiple international prizes worth a few million dollars to a person who can prove supernatural events. After decades nobody has ever claimed these prizes (because 'supernatural' doesn't exist) Energy doesn't come out of nowhere, you were asleep, or you could just be seeing things. Thousands of people are hospitalized every year for being delusional, to the degree that it hurts their lives (seeing "angels" and "divine lights") There is plenty of available technology to prove flows of energy/heat/coldness are moving inside a given space. There have been numerous people claiming under supervised conditions "there it is, I'm seeing the ghost now" yet absolutely nothing is visible and no physical change has occurred in the room. Please, let's not go into the "duh, it's supernatural so the censors don't show it". We might just as well start arguing if Mercifull's teapot orbiting around the sun exists or not.
-
If you oppose something that doesn't personally harm you or anybody else, you're close minded (making fun of gay people, other religions, etc.) I don't care what people do as long as it's neutral. People who denounce others like "God hates people who abort/have sex before marriage/are gay" are just so ridiculous. God says? Excuse me? Did he talk to you? God, if one exists, is probably pretty damn open minded/smart, I doubt he'd hate any of the people he has created himself. Religion is a big part of culture. Instead of learning it to "believe it", take it as a part of a culture. Most people, in most countries, aren't really that religious. It applies to nearly all religions. It's an integral part of their culture. Yet so many christians, muslims, hindus etc. haven't even touched their 'holy book'. It's just something embedded in their culture. Understanding others and accepting people are different is what's open minded. Spreading hate, prejudice and ignorance is what destroys societies and structures.

People trying to find special meaning in life, seeing "faces" and animals in the clouds, your future in a cup of tea, it's just your mind. It's just a coincidence or your mind which is pre-programmed to find recognizable patterns. Believe what you want but once you become rational you'll understand everything "paranormal" can be discredited. Freaky door creaking at night when you're at your grandma's house? No, it's not the ghost of great-grandfather. It's natural flow of air because the window was open. Ghost in your living room? Actually the projection of light from a car that's being parked, but it reflected so strong because it's night. Sure, even my grandmother covers mirrors at night because she believes "bad spirits" will come out of them. I don't call her delusional. I just feel sorry for her if superstitious bull**** actually disrupts her life :?

I haven't tried, my bro has a Wii, but you can get a free wireless router at http://www.fon.com/ (It says "buy" but the price is actually a promotional zero dollars unless things have changed) The catch? They want you to join their community (they want to build market share in wireless connections or something) :P I submit a free order and it came in 3 weeks, so it's worth a try since it doesn't cost a penny... The router works just fine for a laptop, not sure about a Wii. Should try it. Yeah, thought so. So it's not a standalone connection...

One factor is uniqueness, what makes a PoTC: At world's end video game unique? Nothing. Lord of the rings for gamecube/ps2? Just another hack and slash. I wouldn't discredit IGN just based on 1 'funny' review, sure fl0w is a cheap flash game and 7.6 is pretty much just a dumb rating, but IGN has very reliable other reviews, background info etc... People want 'funny' stuff even if it isn't high quality, just for the sake of novelty. :) And after all, fl0w costs like what... $8? It's like one of those 3mb games on Steam, something to take a bit 'less seriously' (not that you should take games very seriously anyways, haha)

We are so owned, Rihanna is designing umbrellas!
BlueLancer replied to Lime_Mercury's topic in Off-Topic
Why should I pay $100 for an umbrella any chinese factory can make for $1? Because the selling vehicle is a female who sold lots of music albums, therefore the umbrella gains superior water protective qualities? I don't understand people who fall for this stuff and buy it "because shes hot" (adolescent teen boys with raging hormones) or "it's cool" (read Merc's post). But it's your money, and knowing people have bought dumber stuff... Count on it.. People will buy it :) -
 Yeah I get the asian part of your case.. My case is a bit different as my father is from southern europe, more precisely ex. yugoslavia, and I sure got my share of the "wake up lazy ***** when I was your age I biked 7 miles every morning to buy bread and attend school at 6.am and feed the dog and swim across the lake and take out the rubbish of the entire neighbourhood and god knows what else" Sure I respect that, knowing he didn't come from an exactly wealthy family, but makes me wonder if there's some exaggeration in there :-$
