  1. I think you misunderstood. The second law of thermodynamics does not state that energy "escapes" the universe (which I agree is a closed system, obviously). It says that all energy and compounds break down into something less complex and less useful. So eventually everything will break down so much that it no longer has any use. I don't understand how you can claim that when the energy in the universe approaches absolute zero it can suddenly gain enough energy to revert in on itself. Surely by the point that there is almost no energy left in the universe, all objects would be far enough away from each other that their gravitational pull can not reach far enough to pull them back. Explain this please? I can not pretend to be able to explain his exact reasons, as he is a far more experienced scientist/astrophysicist than I could ever hope to be. But you could actually read his book if you were interested. I think this may be where we exit "science" and enter "philosophy" because there is no tangible evidence. Anselm, in his ontological argument, proposed that God is "that than which nothing greater can be conceived." From this, he argued that it is greater to be infinite than to be finite and it is greater to exist than not to exist. Also, God is different from the universe because He is perfect and the universe obviously is not, because He chose to give us free will. However, He is not entirely different because He made us in His image and left His mark on all of creation. Yes, honestly I am waiting for the point where we all "agree to disagree." But since I believe it, I'm going to defend it, at the very least I will "plant a seed."
  2. I think this is a good point. There are just some things we, as humans, are incapable of comprehending. To follow Rene Descartes' method: anything that it is possible to doubt, we should doubt, in the pursuit of knowledge. Always look at the possibilities. If you are content to accept that you are an insignificant coincidence and your life has no meaning, that is your choice. However, if I would prefer to believe that I was carefully crafted by a loving creator who simply wants me to experience the wonder and beauty of His creation and thank Him for it, and if I would prefer to believe that my life actually has a meaning instead of being an unnoticable blip on the scope of the universe... that is my choice.
  3. Just to make sure I understand your question: you want to know why I believe the universe (which in my opinion does not include God, but that's another matter) is the finite creation of an infinite creator instead of itself being infinite? If, as you say, the universe itself is eternal, it must follow that everything in the universe is eternal. This obviously goes against the second law of thermodynamics, or the law of decay, which states that everything will eventually break down in time and that the usable energy in the universe is becoming less and less until there will eventually be none. As for the continual cycle of big bangs/big crunches, there is a severe lack of empirical correlation and testability with this theory. It is generally accepted among scientists that this theory is outside the methodology of scientific investigation to confirm or disprove and is considered more mathematically theoretical and metaphysical than scientific in nature. To believe such a theory, you are even going against such minds as Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein.
  4. A couple people have asked it before, and I'll ask it again: why do most of you seem to think the big bang theory is incompatible with the Genesis? There are people who believe in creationism who also support the big bang. Here is a good article about just that, if interested: link To highlight a couple things from the article: 1. Pieces of the BBT can be traced back to 1925 to a guy who was both an astrophysicist and a priest. 2. The Bible (even if you don't believe it) has at least 11 different verses stating that God "stretched out" and "continues to stretch out" the heavens, accounting for the expansion of the universe. (A bit off topic, but could be another good read for those of you arguing evolution: The Sudden Appearance of Bipedalism) Also, some of you appear to be arguing that the universe was self-created. You may not like to call it that, and you can cover it up with whatever jargon you please, but it is still technically arguing "the universe is self-created." If you honestly and logically look at that phrase, you will see that it is false by definition. A creation, by definition, requires a creator, and for something to create itself, it would have had to exist before it existed. So you're saying the universe existed before it existed? That is clearly a violation of the law of noncontradiction, which states that 'A' can not be 'A' and 'not A' at the same time and in the same relationship. Some of you may say, "Well, the universe didn't create itself, it exploded out of nothing." This also goes against a fundamental law of science: "Ex nihilo, nihil fit" or "Out of nothing, nothing comes." You can not make something out of nothing, it is impossible and simply illogical. You also have to look at the law of causality, which states that every effect must have a cause. This is also true by definition if you look at it logically. I think we can agree that the universe is an effect. So what cause the universe? The big bang? The big bang was technically an "explosion" of sorts, so what cause the big bang? A build-up of temperature and pressure? What caused this build-up temperature and pressure? This can repeat forever, so for there to exist any effect at all, there must have been an uncaused cause, or a "first cause", or something that is eternal. If you do not believe in noncontradiction or causality, then you are living in absurdity and your claims can not be viewed as valid. In fact, it has been shown that the only time anyone denies the laws of noncontradiction and causality is when they are trying to force a claim that logic says can not be true (I believe we will see this soon enough if this thread continues). Anyway, there's my words for this debate. Make of them what you will. As others have said, there will always be disagreements in this area.
  5. Well, again you have a few options. If you've done Enlightened Journey and unlocked the balloon route, you can use the balloon from Castle Wars to Taverly and use a Ring of Duelling back to Castle Wars. Then there's the option of having your house in Taverly, using Tele to Home (have it set to put you outside the portal) and then either using a Falador portal or just a Falador Tele to bank. If neither of those, then you will simply have to walk and tele to Falador like you said. Edit: linkzelda beat me...
  6. There's an article in the RS Knowledge Base about it (sorry, can't post the link right now). Basically, all you need to do is take your pouches (noted will work) to the ogre outside of Oo'glog next to the summoning obelisk. Right click on him and select the option to swap pouches (can't think of the real name). Then you can click "Value" on the pouches in your inventory, and it will tell you how many shards you will get for trading it in and what summoning level you need. This also works for scrolls, and is a much better option than junk trading in my opinion. Another option (as if that's not complicated enough) is to find out how many shards the ogre in Oo'glog will give, calculate the value of those shards (# times 25), and compare it to the G.E. price of that pouch. If the G.E. price is higher, it would be better to sell the pouch and buy new shards. With such low level pouches, though, I seriously doubt that will happen. Edit: Yet another option is to look up the high alch value of the pouch and see if it's better to alch them. As you can see, you have plenty of options with summoning
  7. Well for starters, here's a couple guides from the Archive of Wisdom: Farming Guide DK Guide I've heard that DKs were changed with the new RT5 update and are now much harder to solo. You might want to check into that. Actually, I think there's another post in Help & Advice asking about it. For farming, it's not hard to calculate gp/xp from the price of a seed. Anyway, I think maples or yews are your best bet, but don't quote me on that.
  8. Right below the box that tells you the final level, there is a box called "Shards & Costs." By selecting one of the pull-down menu options, it will tell you anything from the cost of all second ingredients (you must input the cost though in the "Edit Pouch Information" section), shards required with and without trade-ins (the ogre guy in oo'glog), amount of shards you will need to begin if using trade-ins, etc. Just play around with the calculator, learn it, and you will see how useful it is. Edit: Yes, 39 seems to be the level you will end up with. You could, however, get up to level 43 if you choose to use more expensive pouches, such as the Mosquito (I would recommend against the Mosquito, but it's your choice).
  9. Here is a really nice calculator for summoning: http://users.telenet.be/glodenox/Charms/CharmPattern.html It should be able to tell you everything you need. You can even tell it to leave out pouches you don't like to make. [hide=]Using this calculator, I put starting XP as 276. It returned: The pouches which need to be made are: Make 95 of Dreadfowl Make 126 of Spirit spider Make 18 of Granite crab Make 287 of Mosquito Make 27 of Honey badger Make 77 of Void ravager Make 11 of Bronze minotaur Make 191 of Mosquito Make 86 of Bull ant Make 52 of Macaw Make 41 of Evil turnip Make 22 of Spirit cockatrice 22,640 shards required without trade-ins and putting your final XP at 54,404 which is level 43. However, Mosquitos are not very efficient to make because the second is expensive/hard to obtain. Taking Mosquitos out, the calculator returned: The pouches which need to be made are: Make 95 of Dreadfowl Make 126 of Spirit spider Make 582 of Granite crab Make 9 of Vampire bat Make 59 of Honey badger Make 151 of Beaver Make 11 of Bronze minotaur 23,521 shards required without trade-ins and putting your final XP at 37,031 which is level 39.[/hide]
  10. It makes sense to me. Obviously the person who said it cared enough to comment on it. If that person actually couldn't care less, it would have been completely ignored. It reminds me of the joke when someone asks you how you feel about something, and you reply "Give me a few minutes and I'll care less." or something like that.

  12. Reading through this has shown me how bad my internet really is... Of the few that actually worked, my lowest was 666. Highest was almost 900.
  13. Yes, they are aware of this. I thought it had already been fixed though?
  14. I had my butler un-note quite a bit of planks just yesterday and he didn't steal any planks. So is this new, or just happening to you? 2.7 million tokkul for onyx?! :ohnoes:
  15. Ah, that's a good point, but I use my portals way more than my mounted glory. Also it's the Quest Hall that has the glory, not the Skill Hall.
  16. Here is the layout I have been working with: [hide=Image] This is the first/ground floor.[/hide] [hide=Image] This is the second floor.[/hide] I posted this layout here about a week or so ago, hoping I could get some advice on it, but it didn't get hardly any replies. The two who did reply though said it looked good. I actually just finished remodeling my POH yesterday. The finished house looks very similar to this layout. The only difference is the dining room and kitchen are on the opposite side. It would be better if I could have made this layout exactly, but I already had a teak shelves 2 and didn't want to buy any more gold leaves. The reason this layout is better than what I had to do is later on, the second Formal Garden would have a dungeon entrance, and it would be helpful to have my Dining Room closer when making Oak Doors because of the bell pull. I think I'm a long way from that though, so there's time for me to change it. I also briefly considered switching the Formal Garden with my portal and the menagerie, but decided against it. If you want your portal closer to your chapel, you can move it. Good luck with designing your house. It's probably the best part of construction
  17. Banned for being the only two people who posted on this page (besides me).
  18. I'd say the best/most efficient method is to cannon and range them in Taverly dungeon. This is definitely not the cheapest thought, as the drops most likely won't pay for the cannonballs. Check out this slayer guide for more: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=764201
  19. So if I understand this right- press the 1 key, then the / key, then bang on the number pad and you will have the drop rate? Sounds right to me, I've played 5+ years and have never got one.
  20. I hear mining granite makes good junk. Maple longbows would be a lot easier though.
  21. I still don't understand this. What change has made selling fire runes impossible?
  22. What do you mean? You can't sell runes for tokkul anymore? If so... that really sucks
  23. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you need to have access to Lunar Isle in order to use the Lunar Spellbook? So the "mystical forces" thing would be unnecessary since you would need to be on the Lunar Spellbook to make the portal. Some pretty good suggestions you have here, well done. I especially like the dreaming thing where you can fight previous quest bosses. It kinda reminded me of a minigame from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.
  24. Confirming what Kellis said: you can use all at the same time, but only have one of each.
  25. In my opinion, you would do best with 10 workers on raw fish and the other 5 (assuming you have done the Royal Trouble quest) on either maples or flax. It's best to raise your approval rating to 100% every day, but if you forget every once in a while (like me) it doesn't make that much of a difference. Remember to keep at least 750k plus another 75k for every day you think you would forget to check your coffers. Personally, I try to always keep at least 1mil, sometimes 1.5mil, in my coffers. This is because 10% is taken out every day, with the max taken out being 75k. I don't think it really matters when you collect, as long as you do the above routine. I like to do every two weeks, but that's just me.
